FILM DESCRIPTION:
Final Destination 2 screenwriters Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber make their directorial debut with the sci-fi thriller The Butterfly Effect. Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher with facial hair) wants to free himself from his disturbing childhood memories. As a kid, he often blacked out for long periods of time and tried to detail his life in a journal. As a young adult, he revisits the journal entries to figure out the truth about his troubled childhood friends Kayleigh (Amy Smart), Lenny (Elden Henson), and Tommy (William Lee Scott). When he discovers he can travel back in time in order to set things right, he tries to save his beloved friends. However, he finds out that relatively minor changes can make major problems for the future. The Butterfly Effect also stars Eric Stoltz, Ethan Suplee, and Melora Walters. The title was inspired by the story A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury.

This is one of the best movies ever but it's also the saddest
Watch Johnny Got His Gun, you wanna talk about sad endings. Hint, it's in Metallica's One music video. They own the rights to that movie.
There are 4 alternate endings. Go watch them so you can be less depressing.
Do you still think it's one of the best movies as of today November 27th 2020?
@@Mr.Death101 yes

Just imagine seeing your love of your life this deep...
I bet you would cry as well
zotharr And you know, in the movie, he know's that he has a way to make thinks better - or at least he's trying to believe it - but if this happens in real life, I think most of the time, there's only one thing you can do: let it go
zotharr You´re right! This happened with me, my love was in a pretty close situation, like shown in the clip, and after numerous attempts, i had no choice but let it go. I have been informed that he was improving his situation, in slow steps, but, until now we don´t talk one word since last year.

Sometimes only letting go can help a person, both sides...
+zotharr I'd be an absolute wreck.

This was actually her worst scene in the movie. Just watched it last night. Timing was way off on stuff. Felt awkward.

Ashtons best movie to date.
I agree
It still is.
Yes, he is a mediocre actor but this movie is in my top 5. Maybe my favorite ever.
GeneralZoot he was good in guess who with berbie mac even though its a different genre
stripe801 what?
Love your kids. Protect them. Teach them.....
She deserved a better father.
Yes period 💯….
Definitely.
And mother. Her mother moved away and abandoned her to be molested. In every timeline, except the last one, she's absent.
the junkie makeup is pretty good : the skin of her face is well done, the slow voice and half closed eyes are good...but the needle scars are too neat to be realistic
dega723 it's a movie... I don't think she really uses dope. LOL
This movie is straight up brutal. A heartbreaker. But damn good, possibly in my book the best.
this scene particularly is crushing.
It’s in my top 10 for sure. This movie does not hold your hand and I love that
It got a 34 percent on rotten tomatoes lol

This was his only meaningful artistic achievement honestly. Everything else he did was straight up trash.
I remember everyone calling him down when this came out. But I always liked it. I never understood why people didn't.
I hate it when people say the things that impacted in them life don't determine their personality or how it can change their lives. You are a product of environment just admit it already.
Many times the words that people use against you impact your life especially if you were young and words were used against you over and over .
I’ve tried my whole life not to be my father. Unfortunately deep down it’s in there.
D Isme because you keep trying to escape a fate you’ve already determined in ur head

Shame that I'm doomed the same fate
People say" live in the present, move on, yesterday is history", but the truth is that that past can so much make you what and who you are today and so many times people don't actually realize it. A tiny bit of something in the past can change an entire life history. I had a chilhood girlfriend and I had pure and true feelings for her. My family moved to France when I was fourteen. I just realized how much she meant to me once I was there. Till this day, I sometimes wonder what could have been if I had never left.

amy smart was phenomenal in this movie!
Deserved an award.
The wheel chair sequence is heartbreaking. I never wanted to see this as I hated him and this movie changed my view of him. How this isn’t classed as a classic is beyond me. The idea , everything about it is just brilliant.
Great film. GREAT FILM
It *could* have and *should* have been a classic. If only it was better written and executed..... To me, it's a tragically wasted film.
@@SuperTed19021
I understand where you’re coming from but to me it’s still worthy of being a classic.
That bath scene. Telling her “nobody will ever love her as much as him”.
The post box scene. I still think it’s a worthy classic.
@@SuperTed19021 it’s already a classic lol
I never hated Kutcher and I love this film.
This is perhaps the most crushing scene in the movie, when he tells he she was happy once.
Watched this movie when I was 5. Probably not the best age to watch this movie but I recognized it now at the age of 15. I rewatched it and I loved every second of this beautiful movie
I think I was around 12 when I first watched it. Not the best age either but now that I'm 20 I'm having the urge to re-watch it again
I’m 28 now and the older I get the deeper this movie gets.
Give credit where credits due Ashton handled this scene very well.
The beard actually helps to disguise his bad acting.
Jules, stop being jealous.
No it ain't
The pie act pretty well too
I randomly decide to watch this scene and stumble across someone with the same name as me, now there's a butterfly effect 😂
Something I've noticed, every time the timeline makes Kayleigh wind up unhappy/messed-up, her hair color is mousy and messy, but where she is happy/contended, her hair is blonde and straight. Not to mention her body is more toughed in her screwed-up scenarios compared to slimline of the happy ones. Pure props to Amy Smart for adapting so well to each and ever scenario. Ashton Kutcher also deserves similar, especially for the 2nd/frat boy timeline.
Her hair looked red to me m, not brown. Which I definitely prefer over blonde, never had any interest in dying my hair that color.
Well it’s the nature of the scene to give depth to story. Everything is planned out in these movies.
How did this woman not win an Oscar? Her acting was amazing
It's not a woman, it's Ashton Kutcher.
@@Awelbeckk is it serious? how could i not notice this? 🙄
Sad they never ended up together
There are alternate endings. That ending fitted better for the movie.
@@Shawn6751 the ending chosen fits better with what he has learned. If he goes after Kayleigh or kills himself. He again is hurting the two most important women in his life kayleigh and his mom. or possibly. He didnt want to risk it since the movie proved that Evans involvement in her life never led her to good things.
It’s a paradox they can’t be together without someone dying or suffering in the process.

More than 10 years and this scene just kills me
the most crushing scene in the film, no doubt.
Honestly, she killed this scene. Great acting
In early versions of the script, the character of Evan was originally Chris Treborn. When the "T" is moved over, it becomes "Christ Reborn". This was changed to Evan Treborn, which is a play on "Event Reborn".
1:45 wrecks me every single time.
Paul Read how gay and weak lmao
2:39 I love this part
such an epic film
This movie is amazing. I have always loved it ever since I saw it when it came out. Definitely by far Ashton Kutsher’s best movie.
when you’ve seen how your own choices effect others, this movie becomes realer and realer. so many years since seeing this as a middle schooler and my life has seen so many doorways and portals since then, an eternity ago.
This movie goes to show that there's no such thing as somebody having a perfect life. That even having the ability to change the past doesn't make it any easier.
Life is meant to be hard, and that's what makes it more interesting
Life is just meant to be life. We human beings just judge it as hard life is just life.
Not the point of the movie. The point was that actions have consequences.
if i had this power i would use it to turn back the day i met my love so that we never knew each other
I feel this comment. Because it's unrequited love with mine and I wish i could go back in time and never have met her so I wouldn't be suffering and being internally torn apart like I am right now.
True, true. To me, it would have actually gave this scene even more impact if Kayleigh said one last line to Evan before throwing the wallet at him and storming out of the diner, saying "You know what, if I could actually travel back in time like you say you can, slick, I would make sure I never knew you!". *Ouch!*
I'm a reasonably good-looking charismatic man, fit, tall and middle class. I've broken more women's hearts than I like to remember. I've never been proud of it, always hated the break-up moment, but I always thought they'd be better off without me. My last break-up she was 13 years younger than me. She started crying in the kitchen and asked me to tell her I loved her. I couldn't say the words. She broke apart. Fell on the floor crying. I had to call her sister to pick her up. I feel a knot in my gut every time I remember that or I watch this scene. I've pissed away so many chances of actual happiness that nobody would believe. I've met such great, faithful, nice, good-hearted, beautiful and accomplished women, but I still can't give myself completely. I don't regret never having done that, I regret all the pain I caused them. Hate myself for that. Damn, sometimes I hate myself.
@@metodoinstintoI understand self hatred. Someone once told me to give the same empathy and love to yourself that you would give to someone who you care deeply for. I know this is easier said than done, still working on this myself. I can relate to your story a lot. For me it was one girl, whom I will always love but I was too afraid to fully commit. It sounds like you have commitment issues as well. We can’t truly love another person until we accept ourselves and love ourselves as well. May you find your peace.
@@metodoinstintoyou feel the pain you caused. And it's VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY easy to be somebody chicks fall for. Try being yourself and see if they fall for you.
I cry everytime.
"how's tricks?" ahah love that line !

This movie is so sad and beautiful
more than 13 years later now. this movie still hits me very hard..
The movie taught to never give up on a person
It taught me some things aren’t meant to be
Wait, wasn’t the message the opposite
I'm not sure whether I'm getting to your original comment, but maybe the sad truth here especially is that in the end, Evan himself was just not meant to be. *Painful!* I do wish they went also with the director's cut version, which had much more impact and conclusive, but the Hollywood executives didn't allow it. God knows why. To me, this movie is just criminally wasted.
@@SuperTed19021 I couldn't watch that alternate ending it was too much but i seen the comments
@@raresabraleaks8216 Yep. That's basically the one of the main messages of the film to me. Sometimes you have to let people and the past go even if you don't want to.
this is one of my favorite scenes in the movie
And the scene where hes in the wheelchair and hypothetically tells her his feelings, sad
This movie was brutal when I was a kid and saw it. That realization that every action you take directly affects everything afterwards, even if you don't notice.
Yup, truth hurts. 😢
Makes ya wonder.....the person who broke your heart.......who hurt you the most......what if they were actually saving you.....
Good point! 🤔
The sad truth in this timeline is that she ended up being almost *just* like her brother. She had gone beyond the point of Evan being her Prince Charming and saving her. Maybe something/someone else out there still could and can, but Evan on his own was now flogging a dead horse. To anyone else who did not have his power to change/alter time, they would have to just let that person go.
I can't say that I can relate to this scene in any way but what I can say is I'm currently watching people change in a negative way, people I've known for well over 20 years. It's crazy because 20 years ago everybody I talked to seemed to be ok and now they're all going down this dark road in their lives. It sucks knowing that there's absolutely nothing I can do to help because they've shut down and their showing nothing but anger and resentment
Goddamn this is powerful. She is the only one who actually realizes what he is, and throws it right back at him with what little strength and dignity she has left. And this time his attempts to “save her” backfire not once, but twice in the same timeline when she kills herself after this conversation.
She didn’t kill herself in this timeline from what I remember, she did when Evan first discovers he can time travel.
She kill herself in her timeline where she a waitress. Not this.
I love Amy Smart what a wonderful actress she should do more films🖤
Came here to cry. Got a good one. See yall in another 7 months.
Honestly nothing about this movie is satisfying, such a heartbreaking movie that he can't be with the one he truly loves no matter how much he tries to set things right 💔
The end is satisfying because he does successfully set things right. He puts aside his dream of being with her in order to do it. That's life. You have to make sacrifices for others.
They can make you forget that you are watching 2 people act out a script. They lose themselves in their work. They have ability to portray authentic, memorable characters very well. I love them both. INCREDIBLE WORK. The fact that Amy was able to play someone so damaged....you can tell she LOVED the variety of roles and exploring her darker/painful side in order to access such authenticity on screen.
The proof of their chemistry is in the pudding.
In real life, Astrologically speaking, they have matching moons. The moon rules your emotions and initial responses. They both have a moon in Aquarius. Even though that gives them a personal touch of “twin” energy (twin flames) but those with moon in Aquarius channel their emotions from a higher place. Another dimension. (Hence the reason why the lead actor Ashton truly had a time traveling ability and supposedly Jesus Christ had a moon in Aquarius...funny how Ashton’s character Evan was even able to get the “stigmata” (wounds of Christ) inside of the prison cell. He even said “Jesus sent me to your cell in order for you to help me” to his cell mate. He is even willing to bet him a pack of cigarettes if he is lying
It’s also funny that the moon rules your mind and the whole plot is centered around the ability to access his memories in order to alter them to a “better outcome”. Or so he thought...Love this movie forever!!!!!
