The Stam Audio is hands down the winner in this shootout! The bright and clean highs and mids make this a superb clone to the Sony and the price tag for the Stam makes it a no brainer!!
Great production Carl. The Link Mod Max is a sweet upgrade retrofit to both the Warm WA8000 and Stam. Open, spacious and a lot more clarity. Love the results. Reaching out to Link today for my WA 8000. Keep up the great work. Man your chops...Yeah! Just Sweet Carl. Thank you.
Sometimes it’s hard to get a good feel for a microphone on your channel because of your golden pipes and stunning vocal technique. I get so distracted by your amazing singing
Not even gonna lie, I'm like going back and forth with microphones, not just for the sound but for the awesome variety in his riffs. keep up the good work! @CarlMooreMusic
Definitely appreciate the love in this comment! A lot of folks wouldn’t admit they like a Warm Audio product for whatever reason but they’ve got some decent stuff honestly. Thanks for supporting the channel
I feel the link mod make a warm mic sound way better and closer than a a real c800g and its crazy especially for the price, but to me, if I have to really honest ,STAM is the real clone/ twin of the Sony ) especially in the mix I mean . ))
Ohh my god the link mod Sounds soo good. It has this Sony low end power and the smooth creamy highs. The normal wa8000 is ok for the Price, lows are a Little Bit thin and the highs harsh but for the Price ok. Stam is better than the wa8000 but flat and boring sounding. For me the winner is the link Mod. 1. link mod max 2. Stan 3. wa8000 normal
Surely appreciate your comment here. I was grateful MFC Network inquired on how I wanted my mic voiced. I asked for the option of a little more low end and it worked out for the best
Thanks for checking out the video and commenting! I would honestly say it depends on the vocalist but I initially grab for the sa800 and then I’ll test out the sa87T
Thanks for checking out the video and commenting. At the time I got my modification, it was the highest option they offered. I think it’s equivalent to the “Extreme” now but it wasn’t called that when I got it done.
The Link Mod Max is definitely a big improvement. The stock WA8000 has been one of my least favorite sounding mics they have made. That said, I think the Stam is the best one out of the 3. The 800G is known for being bright with an airy but smooth top end and the Stam captures that top end very well. It cuts through your mix with no effort. The Link Mod does not capture that airy top end and sounds like a darker 800G. Not that it's a bad thing. Some people may prefer that darker sound. But I don't lol I want my modern airy top end! Also the stereo image of the Link Mod feels wider especially in the low mids while the Stam feels more centered and focused. Appreciate the vid man! Great as always!
Thanks for checking out the video and interacting with me as usual! I may get thrashed a bit for this but they asked me the voicing I wanted and I asked for it to be a little darker! It’s still more prevalent up there compared to other mics but there’s girth that’s definitely not present in the wa8k. It takes EQ well in my opinion and I plan on demonstrating that in a later video. Thanks again bro!
I would love to hear your take on which of the three you liked best! Also, if you’ve used the c800g in the past, would love your thoughts on which replica comes closest to the actual thing. Obviously, none of them nail it 100%, but that’s only to be expected!
Thank you for checking out the video, commenting and stopping by the channel. I like both mics for different reasons. The mod MFC network did to my original wa8000 makes it more well rounded in my opinion. And it takes processing better in post. I feel like the SA800G came as a mic voiced to be polished out of the case. I’ve had limited experience with the older C800. I’ve never used the more current models of the c800G but that may change soon. Thank you for the interaction!
@@CarlMooreMusic Thank you so much, Carl! Your videos - not just this one - have proven to be incredibly informative. Two follow up questions though: 1. Are the levels on the Warm (both stock and modified) louder than those on the Stam? Listening to the audio both through phone speakers, as well as on headphones, it seems like the signal from the warm is slightly louder. 2. To your ears, is the modified warm brighter than the Stam?
@@axxonthetrack question 1 - I felt like the output on the Stam was a little hotter than the others so I pulled it back some but it may have been pulled back too much. To my ears the Warm Mod is darker. I actually asked them to boost a little more low end and tame the highs. It has more of the C800 vibe prior to the G version
I would have to make an educated guess on the warm capsule just not being tuned right for that air. Their wa-67 capsule is the same Way. Dull flat and dark sounding Compared to real Neumann. With few tweaks a NOS Ef86 and proper kk67 capsule it sounds dang close. I did the whole deal Myself and have Neumann for comparison. It’s not exact but is so close in a mix it’s probably impossible to pick
I’m thanks for checking out the video and commenting. I’m working on getting a u67 in my hands to try to run a comparison of my own but I’ve found more similarities with the wa67 and the u67 in some of the other reviews online. More importantly, I’ve landed on it as a final Vox mic option and I didn’t have a problem with it. I know that’s a subjective stance but I didn’t think it was so bad.
The best deal is the Link Mod Max. You can buy a used WA-8000 for $699 then send it to MFC Network for the link mod max for $700. Out the door, you'll spend maybe $1600 for a really good C800g clone and only wait 2-3 weeks to get it. Meanwhile, the Stam is $2400, and you will wait anywhere from 3-24 months for your product, or you can get the Stam from reverb for $3100 after tax and only wait 3 days. Link Mod FTW.
Thanks for checking out the video and commenting. It does take some time to get Stam products but I was impressed once they arrived. MFC network is onto something. And they’re good people! I support both from the product quality and personal experiences. I’m always humbled by good interactions! Thank you
@@CarlMooreMusic Cool, my transformer was damaged during shipping, I'm still waiting for them to fix it. After waiting 8 months to receive it, I still haven't gotten a chance to hear the SA800G due to the transformer being damaged.
@psycholarge oh wow! I hate to hear that honestly. Always sucks when gear can’t be used. But I know Joshua made sure to make mine right when it needed repairs. I hope the same happens with yours
The WA8000 is a great mic but the Stam is better. It legitimately sounds exactly like a C800G for WAY less money and without an insane wait. That being said I wouldn't mind having both mics to record vocal stacks. I like to have mics that are different but with similar characteristics when I'm recording stacks.
the Stam is a really good Clone. Has it the original Sony C800G Capsule in it? I've Noticed the Wa8000 MFC-Mod has a little more bottom end and weight, the rest is similar.
@@tecno8335 That used to be true. It's not really anymore. All of my orders from Stam in the last year or two have turned around quick. I think they staffed up.

i like the stam the most in this test

the stam isnt modded and they wont mod the stam I just checked for my homie but they do mod the ga8000
Link mod is substantially better than stock But Stam is hands down much better! Especially in the context of the mix!!!
