- 1965 - Bobby Rydell sings "I Just Can't Say Goodbye" and "Swingin' School" on an episode of Shindig. It's rare that we get to hear Bobby actually singing for real on a television appearance, as usually the singers had to lip their songs. This segment of both of these numbers is probably one of my top favorite performances I've seen of him. Such emotion in the first song. And how can you not love the slight crack up in "Swingin' School"? You can just tell he was having a blast.

Man, that was so cool! Bobby was bitchen! So good with his singing, and even being a good sport with all the extra dancing. He looks so damn good on this show. As for me, in 1965, I was 10. My parents didn't care for Shindig, so they watched their own shows. This is the first time I have seen this! Thank you for posting this.
I was 10 that year as well. I saw some of the Shindigs but do not remember this one. Very good stuff.

I came here expecting to hear the usual "artist lip-synching their hits". This was a pleasant surprise. And yes, I love it when he's trying not to laugh during "Swingin' School," plus when he has to get out from behind the girls and race back to the microphone. :D

Does anyone have any information on Shindig dancer Diane Stuart? She's the base of the cheerleader pyramid in this video.
she died in a pyramid collapse - it wasn't pretty - that base position comes with its risks, but Diane knew that before she made a career of pyramiding - and what a career it was!
