I just happened to see this short with Ann-Margaret & Bobby Rydell and I found it charming. They were truely good people. Most of us were good young people back-in-the-day. I know that Ann-Margaret went on to become a bigger star and Bobby Rydell could have also, but he didn't want to leave his home town and his wife fir long periods of time. Bobby was married to his wife for 36 years before she passed away of breast cancer.
Ann-Margaret also had a long marriage too untill her husband passed away.
These are two stars who didn't 'go-Hollywood', but stayed with their old fashioned roots.
    God bless them both.

I appreciate this segment with Ann-Margret and Bobby Rydell talking about the making of Bye Bye Birdie I wish they had last longer I was a little girl a teenager may have been around 14 or 15 and I went home and sang Bye Bye Birdie in the mirror and pretended I was Ann-Margret I have never seen anybody so beautiful inside and out and I always knew she had something special I knew that intuitively so to me she was like an angel not a what they called Diva but a real angel inside and on the outside thank you and Margaret you have inspired me most of my life I'm a girl from Mississippi and I remember when I saw you and I was in love with Elvis I literally said after Bye Bye Birdie I set in the theater after the movie and said these two have got to meet I literally said a prayer that there would be a director of somebody in Hollywood they would put you two together so I could see you too together and I wanted you to fall in love and later on I found out that you you did and you connect it with one another somehow I needed that to happen and I will always feel like I had something to do with that on a cosmic level I believe we are all in the interconnected and recognized the essence of one another at least some of us do LOL lol like a kindred spirit it's like I knew you would connect and I know I would like to think that if I ever met and Ann-Margret or and Elvis they would find something significant and me like a kindred spirit it doesn't seem like it ever happened but their beautiful souls and thank you George Sydney and thank you mr. Bobby Rydell you were excellent. I want to say that is ironic did Jesse Pearson plague Conrad Birdie and then a few years later and Margaret met the real thing how's that for irony LOL I love life waves of synchronicity love from Jeanine Ferris initially a Southern girl from Vicksburg Mississippi now living in Tustin California nostalgic tonight but some of my favorite Stars and personhood

@@karenstrycharz1499 The opening/closing numbers of Ann-Margret on the treadmill were created by the director, George Sidney. Columbia Pictures didn't want to pay for the additions to the film, so he paid for it himself. Later when the execs at Columbia saw this at a screening, they reimbursed Sidney. I love those images of Ann-Margret, too...That helped to make her a star! ✴️

Wow! Lucky you & what a great memory! My mom took my brother Eddie & I to the Paramount Theatre in Springfield, Ma. In 1963. It was such an elegant theatre then ( sadly converted to the Hippodrome in the 1990’s, then closed. It was bought & supposed to be used for shows in future but right now sadly remains dormant w/ doors closed). After the movie my mom took us next door to”JENNIFER TEA ROOM”( closed a long time ago) for dinner. What a treat that was, let me tell you( “BUTTERCUP POPCORN 🍿 W/REAL BUTTER WAS 25 cents back then & what a treat!)! I love “your memory of Radio City” is the best though & what a magnificent place to see that 🎥 movie or “any movie”😂 lol! for that matter! Love taking trips to RadioCity from where we live in western Massachusetts, as a kid & then taking our own children later in. Thanks for sharing your special memories with us all!❤️

My only complaint about this was that it wasn't longer. I'm glad to hear that Annie and Bobby R. remained friends, as they seemed to be such a great pairing in the "Birdie." And the two men they worked with, George Sidney and Johnny Greene, had worked with the likes of Judy Garland and Fred Astaire at MGM, *and* Janet Leigh!

Bobby Rydell was a singing idol of the 60's. His version of the song, "Sway" is my personal favorite. My point here is that yes, Ann-Margaret went on to make great movies and fame but Bobby Rydell was no slouch and was famous in his own right.

There was an exceptionally rare quality about Ann-Margret, part vamp and part virgin... AND ALL SEXY. The only way I can adequately describe her is, "feline." She could sing, she could dance, she could act, she could do it all. No wonder Elvis fell in love with her!!

@@armandpopescu8863 I so agree with you & wondered why she couldn’t sign it either, as you did. I thought at first it migrate been some sort of copyright law or something but then thought that can’t be it! I worked for 35 plus yrs in hospitality, Director of Sales, Catering & Marketing at Radisson’s, Four Points Sheraton, Crowne Plaza, etc( you get the idea lol!) & t hit me! I know what happened & can tell you from my experience what was going on( I am retired now) because Ann Margaret was kind & gracious. It sounded so unlike her not to sign something for you. Armand is undoubtedly correct in saying it still hurt her to see something that reminded her of her “forever love & special times with Elvis by there was a bigger & “legal reason,” that undoubtedly was the main reason & only reason she could not & would not sign!
I had many authors & top entertainers through the yrs who’s publicist rented ballrooms & meeting rooms out for book signings & etc. I also went to book signings w/ authors to major book stores for oil signings. Their publishers, editors etc have iron tight clauses in their contracts ( authors of the books they are signing ) strictly prohibiting them signing anything except the books they are pushing! It is in order for you to buy their book! If they didn’t people would be coming up having fans sign slips of paper, their arm, 😂! I actually saw someone ask Julie Andrews to do exactly that & she politely refused lol!) shirts, etc.Their publisher pays big bucks to author for publishing rights & in many cases, pays for air flight, overnights at hotel, etc... you get the idea, ha! ... they pay all the author’s expenses, to send them all over the country and world 🌎, in some cases, to sell ( promote exclusively!) their book! If they sign something else, then you don’t buy their book so “THEY CAN ONLY SIGN THEIR BOOK, WHO THEY ARE PAID HANDSOMELY TO PROMOTE, EXCLUSIVELY!” I thought of many instances where this happened & Tom Clancy( the author) had it happen time & again! I sat next to him, helping him at his book signing. He & others explained it to me(I have a bunch of books I bought from him he signed & for my father too who was a huge fan! He died several yrs ago but glad I got the books! ). Ok... wanted to explain exactly why I know she couldn’t sign that for you but let me tell you! What a huge thrill you had of getting to meet her! How I would love that for I have always adored her! What an incredible memory you have( better than an autograph any ole day!😂) Lucky(“BLESSED”) you! Rydell is the name of the high school in the movie GREASE. Ann seems so down to Earth. I watched her on THIS IS YOUR LIFE on UA-cam today...still so soft spoken then also. She also did an audio speech about Elvis and her on the movie set VIVA LAS VEGAS. She talked about the chemistry between her and Elvis, on and off the movie set. And how he was committed to Priscilla then. There was a scene in VLV where the 2 characters got married and pictures of her in a wedding gown and Elvis in a tuxedo, and him sweeping her up and carrying her off were taken for the publicity of the movie and how the press took the pictures and printed them on newspapers with the caption that they were engaged. I remember Priscilla said in an interview that she thought it was all true and how Elvis explained it was for the publicity only. But I wonder if Priscilla ever heard that audio interview of Ann and Elvis becoming very close and her thoughts on it so many years later. 🤔

Most do not realize that Bobby was very very sick at the time of this screening. His liver was failing. His voice sounds weak, and his personality is totally different. I was there that night and I'm surprised to see the only clip of Bobby was this very muted, almost tired part of the after screening discussion (which, by the way, only lasted about half-an-hour in it's entirety - leaving so many of us to feel cheated. But the point I wanted to make about Bobby is that for most of that 30 minutes, he pretty much dominated the proceedings, almost to the point of being obnoxious. I've always liked him - even saw the Golden Boys of Bandstand tour a number of years ago, but that night, I wanted more Ann-Margret and less Bobby Rydell! That being said, so glad he's in better health now.

Ann-Margret's first film was also excellent -- opposite Bette Davis and Glenn Ford in Frank Capra's "Pocketful of Miracles." many people don't even know Ann was in this film. She was the daughter of a homeless woman who sold apples on the street and was the "mother" to all the street people -- Apple Annie. But she gets a letter from her daughter she sent to Spain for an education and to live there -- away from her hardships. Her daughter -- however -- sends a letter that she was coming home to introduce her fiance to her "wealthy" mother. Her fiance -- a Spanish nobleman's son. Coming to NYC to meet Annie. Gangster Glenn Ford tries to help "dignify" the ragged street woman who has always been his good-luck charm. Annie needs to impress her daughter. But, the police and another racketeer is trying to make life difficult for Ford while he's trying to help Annie. Quite the gauntlet. Peter ("Columbo") Falk and "Gone With the Wind" actor Thomas Mitchell -- are both excellent as gang members, and character actor Arthur O'Connell is first class as the Spanish father. What a great comedy-drama premise for a film. A Capra classic. Can the the gang and the homeless people pull it off? Many great moments throughout the film. Ann-Margret looking so wonderful and naive throughout. Hints of her greatness to come.

I hear you. The story that I'd heard was that Dick Gautier (who played Birdie on Broadway) was originally set to do the film version as well, but he became very ill with Hepatitis near the end of the stage run and had to drop out. The company had heard about Jesse Pearson as a country/pop/rock and roll singer and struggling actor through somewhere, so they offered the role to him to finish up on Broadway, and of course he said, "SURE!" The public took to his performance so well, that he went on to do the role in the film. He was supposed to be a very sweet, low key and friendly guy-VERY unlike Conrad Birdie! (LOL!) SO sad that he died of cancer in 1979. R.I.P., Mr. Pearson!

She was so young & innocent and only 13 or 14 yrs old) that he would marry her, when she turned 18 yrs of age. He kept stalling on his promise though , even before he met Ann Margaret. I had read but when rumors reached her father overseas, that Elvis was in love with Ann Margaret, having an affair , he called Elvis immediately, reminding him in no uncertain terms of his promise to him. Priscilla was afraid herself that Elvis was no longer in love with her, reports had said . Elvis broke it off with Ann Margaret after her father’s call & dutifully married Priscilla. One wk later, newspapers reported, she married Roger Smith. I always felt bad until just now reading what you wrote/texted. I realize you are absolutely right! She loved Roger & had a wonderful marriage of 50 yrs with him, until his sad passing. How right you Aretha, I have to say, for if they had married, it undoubtedly wouldn’t have lasted , for as you so wisely pointed out, Elvis did change women frequently! 🤣You are so absolutely right !!! Take Care!❤️

Yes, and IMHO she damn near stole the movie. I saw it around 1982 and I still remember how good she was in it.

@@karenstrycharz1499 It means "in my humble opinion." Meaning Ann-Margret stole Carnal Knowledge, in my humble opinion. Her part wasn't all that big, but her performance was the one I remember best, nearly forty years after seeing it.

She is “70 plus years old here” so “THAT” may have a lot to do with “your problem of your saying she is hard to listen to???” I had no problem with that! She has such a sweet soft voice but you said she has no “depth????” 🤣Now “I have to admit that’s” a new one! I hope I have some “depth”, I got to say when I reach over 70’years old! 😂Yes, she “DID” indeed stay married, as you put it!!! Roger & Ann Margaret were happily married over 50 years. He sadly died, many yrs ago, after she had personally cared for him, for many years with his serious illness! She is an amazing woman, strong, intelligent, caring & multitalented! Such a beautiful woman & I wish her the very best!❤️

She shouldn't be on talk shows. It was worse in the early 70s on Johnny Carson. She didn't talk, she whispered.
