"The king, the clown, and the colonel" He definitely has a way with words.

Bourdain just nailed depression so well. The dumbest little thing can trigger a 3 day spiral.
That sucks never experienced that, and I hope nobody else does either
And for your kind comment I hope you be happy and have a healthy life :)
and he just passed away taking his own life. 😔
he just took his own life....😭😭😭😭😭 Hope he found peace
Are you referring to Asia Argento?
Just the descriptive language he uses in normal conversation is amazing. I can't even intentionally craft the written word as well as he naturally spoke. I miss this guy.
Bourdain was well read and even spoke that way extemporaneously. His books were extremely well written, and no ghost writers were used.
@koolcat420 Wait ..I think I returned that ;)
Hell. he grew up rich and went to private schools and Vassar for a while -
THAT's how he comes up with all these weird references that I have to look up all the time.
He was a LEARNED man. Me, I'm a schlub.
Bourdain is a good writer too. You should get his books
@@stevencoardvenice he narrates his audio books which are amazing. I’ve read his books, but I appreciate the advice nonetheless
My dad was also a very well known chef, had hundreds work for him,I met people after my dad died that said he'd call the jail here and ask if they have any inmates who want jobs just to give someone a chance and a way out. He was loved and his employers put on the biggest funeral I've ever seen, 500 plus people there. He looked and spoke and acted a lot like Anthony. Losing Anthony was so sad, right when zkotchen confidential came out my dad loved it and died in 06. Anthony became a way for me to see my dad again now they're both gone. I miss you Dad.

One of the most humiliating moments in my life was when I had lunch in a mall food court by myself in the middle of the day in the middle of the week just because I was tired of eating by myself in my apartment. Soul crushing.
Michael Kelley hey bro, sorry to hear that. Hope you’re doing better
Yeah nut up or shut up.
@mule vpn yeah so he can be a fit douche like you no thanks
Ya when I was freshly single I really enjoyed sitting alone in a cafe or restaurant for a meal. Three years later it's just depressing, I get carryout instead.
Lol that is pretty humiliating haha
RIP. You did the world a great favour, millions got to see places they didn't even know existed. You made TV history.
LEGEND
This is why I love Bourdain. The man has enough class and sophistication to eat at the worlds best restaurants in France yet enough humility and grace to go to KFC when hes drunk and wants Mac n cheese.

He joked here about sliding into a 3 day depression. Clearly it’s a joke. But I’m familiar enough from hearing him speak elsewhere to know that he has joked about being depressed before. We all know of his early struggles with addiction and alcohol. From struggling with depression myself I know that those who like to joke about it are usually the ones who know what it’s like from personal experience. RIP my friend.
No, actually it's clearly NOT a joke. He was being totally serious. Anybody who doesn't struggle with crippling depression and neurotically overthinking/overanalyzing every little thing has NO idea at all what it's like.
Locut0s Joking about everything is a common coping mechanism for individuals with severe depression like myself... It's how we stop ourselves from focusing on things so much and how we hide our true selves from the world around us.
Locut0s People can go through a lot worse before finally settling on suicide. Criticizing Hillary Clinton though, that people don't usually survive.

Terry Whalen ABSOLUTELY when i meet him on then flipside, we will all be chillin with the coplest person there
The nervous laughter after the "three days of depression" comment. Exactly when we should be saying "are you OK?"
Normal / healthy person NEVER will understand how it is to be in depression . I guess Conan thought, o yeah nice joke. But Anthony might have thinking "ok so we will see if I can live through another day somehow"
I never met Anthony Bourdain personally but I always felt like he was a close friend. We were the same age, roughly the similar tall, lanky build, liked the same music. When I heard that he had died, talk about a soul crushing experience. I still miss him. But seeing him like this can still make my day better. Thank you, Tony for everything man.
1:46 to 2:40 is how I'll always remember him... articulate, funny, dry... such a great story teller. RIP Chef.

I'll bet $100 they found a Johnny Rockets burger in the autopsy. Jokes aside, he will be missed dearly.
My most soul crushing meal was a fancy dinner put on by the president of my college. I had found out my girlfriend of 5 years cheated on me at 3pm, and dinner began at 5:30pm. Bland food, boring conversation, and i was in the middle of a mental breakdown. I remember spending the majority of the meal trying not to cry into a plate of bland dry chicken. The only thing I can watch him on without crying are his shows. When I see him in these interviews and such, we know how much he hated doing them and I wish he wasn’t put into the realm which ultimately led to the end.
He is such a writer. Miss you, man.

As someone with depression,.. you can feel his sincerity
@yhootoob I mean . . . kind of? It's not something you just turn on or off. It's a condition that is prompted by an event or circumstances that cause immense anguish, regret, guilt, etc. It takes time to heal, or it just doesn't, and in Mr. Bourdain's case it won out. Also, to the OP, best of luck with it. It's hell.

I'm a bit color blind. So, Conan dyed his hair purple and blue?
@@fenriz218 yes.
The way he used words to describe things was amazing. When he told stores in such detail it always brought it to live. Rest in peace Mr. Bourdain
It was eerie to me when he said "when I'm in a bad decision making period of the evening, let's put it that way." I know he was talking about food, but for some reason, I feel like there was something more to that. And when he talked about 3 day spiral of misery and depression from that one experience, I could tell he was the kind of person who was tormented by some serious demons.
Same I picked up on both of those
My guess would be alcohol.... And depression..anxiety.. or both, and impulse. Poor Anthony
That ain't Anthony Bourdain, that's Hellboy wtf.
Hahaha
He's like the color of my catchers mitt.
Drinking.
Telltale sign of alcohol abuse, which isn't exactly surprising.
Robertus Amor Just repeat what I have said.
I once worked in a country whose main airport was so small it doesn't have any international brand fast food chain, it had just one little sad diner. I ordered a chicken sandwich once and was pleasantly surprised because it was really really good, the best chicken sandwich I've had ever, anywhere, and I found it in one of the worst airports I've been to. Ordered it every time I needed a meal waiting for my flight home during the duration of my work there, always cooked to order, on freshly baked buttery dinner rolls. A gem in the most unexpected of places.
I always enjoyed venturing to the lesser known, not so busy, looks clean enough joints. The family cook at these places often add a little more passion into their dishes.
In Minneapolis there’s a small private airport with a small restaurant. It’s one of the highest rated restaurants in the city
Jonathon Gold of the LA Times often gave high scores to restaurants in non-descript stripmalls. He said you’ll never know where you’ll discover a chef with hidden talent
@@electrictroy2010 Jonathon Gold - also much missed. He was an invaluable resource to those of us who live in Los Angeles, discovering the hidden wonders that we never would have found on our own.

RIP Anthony
He was a really beautiful soul
RIP old friend. You showed us all what can be accomplished by simply sitting down for a meal together. I hope whatever demons haunted you are gone, that you have finally found peace. Best wishes to your family, thanks for taking us all along with you for so many years.

He struggled through his life with a lot of things, and I really wish his soul to be peacefull now. Rest in Peace mr. Bourdain. May your travels and adventures be remembered for generations to come
Suicide is hard to believe to normal, healthy people. That's why kurts Cobain suicide is still for some people murder commited by Courtney
maybe he was murdered? it does happen.
Yeah just like some nuts can't believe Kurt cobain shot himself.
All the wealth, fame, and power in the world can't make you happy. I think Tony was missing the one thing, or better, person, that would've brought him true joy.
A song by Kurt Cobsin wás released after his death where the entire chorus is "Pain" over and over again. None of his songs were cheery. He talked about being in pain with stomach issues, probably related to drugs all the time. It wasn't really a shock that he killed himself. Ask anyone around him at the time
Miss this guy, so genuine and an amazing story teller. You can tell, from this clip and a few others that there was a layer of sadness not too far beneath the surface. I've known people with clinical depression and it just manifests differently for them. Sure there are days where I am quite stressed and feeling down/depressed, but the difference I've noticed is this serious "spiraling" which tends to manifest in people like Anthony.
Definitely, it's a medical condition and so hard to manage. By its nature, it works against the hope and willpower that you need to cope with any serious medical condition. I have a friend with depression, and when I saw through his Facebook feed that he had taken up Pokemon Go, I chuckled - but then I realized that it was probably a moderately helpful, low-impact way of addressing his condition. If nothing else, it got him out of the house, exercising and getting some fresh air, and it kept his mind occupied. So 👍to him obsessing over Pokemon Go.
He was such a brilliant story-teller 😢
Rip tony. You were one of the few chefs I could honestly relate to. You spoke for the home cooks that every other chef ignored.
