@@KaneRobot Well, sure, one way to look at it. But I look at it as a guy who was promised a job for a long time and was fucked over by the company and people he thought he could trust telling people not to be cynical. You, and many others, could probably use that advice, it's easy to be cynical and angry at the world, it's tremendously difficult to be positive and forgiving. Not to mention that every single bit of his money from this 'deal' went to his unemployed staff members.

I watch this video from time to time whenever I taste bitterness in my life journey so I can get rid of the cynical mindset, and it always works like magic.
    Amazing things keep on happening.

After all these years, I still google this video every few months, along with videos of Apollo and Space Shuttle Launches, along with old specials and clips of Chappelle. Norm closing out Dave Letterman’s Late Show. Real stuff in American History. When the best of humanity is expressed and captured on camera. When the funny people choke up in their brightest/darkest moments. When scientists, engineers and military people collaborate and send men to the moon with video cameras made by people who never thought their inventions would end up in space. Everyone should be required to watch these videos in high school. This is the good stuff.

What a wonderful piece of advice right at the end. Thank you for telling me this Conan. I am currently going through a period in my life where I had a life-changing opportunity taken away from me and your advice was so much of what I needed to hear. Thank you.

The greatest late night host ever. Words cannot even describe how much i admire Conan. He is just such an unbelievably kind human being, always takes the high road, and makes everybody around him look better just by virtue of being there. I'm glad he really seems to get the recognition he deserves.

I will never forget this night. I was seriously watching in disbelief. I was 12 in 93 when he first started his late night show and every night I would turn on my (for some weird reason) tiny black and white TV and turn the volume way down so I wouldn't wake my parents. The funny thing was at school the next day, everyone else did it too! Even teachers would talk to us about Conan! Everyone I knew got the comedy and LOVED IT! When he got the Tonight show though... I was through the roof! Finally he is getting what he deserves! It was a beautiful moment for us fans. Andy coming back was legendary too! But the show was even better than I ever could have guessed. I will always hate Jay Leno for destroying this perfect show.

It sucks that they did this to Conan but if it weren’t for this we wouldn’t have what came after which, in my opinion, was the greatest stuff Conan ever did. From the ride alongs he did with ice cube and Kevin hart, the clueless gamer let’s plays he did with blay, and ofc everything with Jordan Schlansky are all peak Conan content

What's beautiful about what he said is, a couple years later when he does the remote at Madame Tussaud's celebrity wax museum, the end of his goodbye speech was his notable quote. I have watched this video alot of times in my life during some of the worst times of my life and it never fails to pull me through, so I'm glad it was his notable quote, because it is one of Conan's most unforgettable moments.

This speech literally made me incredibly self aware of my own cynicism and that of others. In no small way it kinda changed my life, which on reflection is a weird thing to say but it's true. Everyone makes mistakes, nobody is perfect, so long as we try and be better (even if it doesn't come naturally and even if we fail), so long as we try and occasionally succeed I feel like we'd all enjoy being here a lot more.

I never thought that Conan was a bad fit for The Tonight Show, I thought that the Tonight Show was a bad fit for Conan. By that time it had become boring, formulaic and constraining. The whimsical satiric comedic magic of Carson and Paar (which was more of Conan's wheelhouse) had been snuffed out by the boring Leno. Conan had far more to offer than The Tonight Show could fit in it's little box.

Some higher-ups in NBC had some hand in it as well. From what I heard, some higher-ups wanted the ratings to return to normal quickly when it takes time for the show's rating to return to normal. The ratings by the time the show ended was slowly increasing but some people in NBC wanted it to go higher faster.

    • @nickevers9571

@@lemuellala2 I don't know where you "heard" that but Conan's ratings were dropping after just a few weeks, and they did not start to go back up until the final few weeks of TTS... after he announced he was leaving.
