We have a 3140 we have checked this valve changed both transmission pump and front pump but when the tractor heats up after running for about 15 minutes the rpm has to be high for the loader and steering to work we know there is a leak but do you have any tips on how to find out where or books or testers we can get this has been happening for quite a while .
Thanks we tried that as well our dealer feels our tractor may just be worn out and it's leaking in a lot of small places. Just hate to let her go we have had it for 25 years she's been good to us. I'll keep watching though we have a 3130 also and a 6420. Your videos are great. And sorry to hear about your Dad. Thanks again from Nova Scotia Canada
Hi, thank for these videos, if you only know how much money your saving farmers around the globe! My question: 3130 suddenly lost steering and remotes. But pto work fine. No oil go from trans pump to front pump, where should I start troubleshooting?
Test the pressure in the shift cover it is the front plug on the rh side. Check you bypass valve it is a little different to the 1640 but still easy to understand. I think you will be splitting it behind the gearsticks, there is 2 bolts hidden under the shift cover, and look for cracked pipes etc as well as the oil manifold.
Mr. Bundy. I have a 2130. The 3 point hitch does not stay up. It lifts and then starts drooping down. If i give it some revs, the hitch comes back up. If I use the remote hydraulics, the hitch just comes down also. The steering of the tractor is also spungy and hard. I will check this bypass valve and filter now. But I doubt that it is it. Because I bought the tactor from a mechanic who changed the filters and oil.
i tried with needle nose vise grips and it wont budge the roll pin bent. i removed the hyraulic filter and you can see the bypass valve ive tried punches to beat it out, prybars nothing works.can i get to it from inside the rock shaft housing and beat it out? im about ready to weld something to it and use a come along to pull it out.
finally got the bypass valve out by drilling it out..i replaced it and steering is working good but the brakes and loader still dont work. any ideas? scv valve maybe?
Hey Lance I have a question regarding my 4440JD? I was bedding pens in our feedlot and all of a sudden it wouldn’t go forward. It wants to go forward but couldn’t. Then I kicked in my PTO and my tractor would move. Does this sound like a clutch problem not getting enough oil or a valve not working properly? Or is my clutch just gone? Thanks!
Hello lance, I have a problem with my hyrdaulics. I have already checked my filter everything is good. But the only main problem is the plow wont go down.
Check you have not bumped the rate of drop knob just in front of your seat. Some times the draft cam can drop off the eccentric on the rockshaft too and it is best to lift the top and take the slop out so it wont happen again.
hey ive got a john deere 1020 and it has been sitting for a while and the oil in the hydralic oil tank has turned into sludge and no matter what i do icand get it ou what do you think i should do

Hello. I have JD 2650 and have problem with constant pressure in hydraulic system. When tractor run at 1500 rpm or more the hydraulic cylinders who are attached slowely moves. Whay is this happening? Thank you
Thank you very much. I have one more question. I have front tyres 380/70R 24 and rear 420/85 R34. Are this dimensions ok? Because I can hear the noise when is front drive turned on.
My 1830 won't start when hot. Cold, just warm, no problems. Of course, easier when hydrolic arms are down. But when hot. It won't start. Have to wait it cools off. Any idea what's the problem. Batteries are good, the contact too, the starter is good also. Nobody can find the problem. Thanks.
Try pouring cold water on the injection pump and let the cool soak in for 30 seconds to a minute and try starting it. If it starts the injection pump is worn.

I just got a JD5403 and after a few hours use it started "bumping" while steering and while lifting the bucket. just started so the tractor is down. Do you think it could by that bypass valve??? Great Video.
hi there i have 6320 transmission heat oil light coming on when doing road work after about 40 minutes driving . i have blowing out the rad with compressor have check fan clutch tested themostat for transmission . filters and oil only changed 400hrs ago . next step is to take radiator out and test if engine coolant is mixing with transmission side of radiator. anything you recommend to check thanks luke
I have found that blowing out the radiator at times doesnt do the job but a pressure clean seems to get the extra out and have them run cooler. Certainly worth a try. Make sure the trans is not over full at all as that will generate heat as well.
I have a 2130 series JD, I recently put a new rock shaft with new bushings, seals & shaft. When I fired her up the 3-point arms went full up and now won't lower!! Any input on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Check the rate of drop screw in front of the seal hasnt been closed off accidently and the cam sticking up when you drop the top on must have the roller on the front of it and the back needs to run on the bolt on cam on the rockshaft. If it fell to the side the arms go straight up.
hi, good information… you are the best… in jd 3040 to remove the valve is nesessary to remove all hydraulic oil before? or can i remove valve unless remove oil?
Thanks for the video lance. I have 3130, When I removed this valve, it was a little different like you mentioned-my question is how much pressure or torque should the bolt pushing against the spring have? Cause right now there isn’t any, the spring & plunger just slide end to end, with that centre bolt in tight... thanks
Bundy Bears Shed no I meant did they have models with open center front pumps. In the us some models were price fighters and didn’t have the good closed center pumps and valves.
In the 6010 series but the pump was up the back near the rock shaft, no other utlilty type tractors did that I know of. No open center front pumps anyway. The 5400 etc was a timing cover driven open center.
@@BundyBearsShed In the states we had 820,830, 1530, some 2040, some 2240, and some 2150 with open center systems. They are real odd ducks to work on. all the 5000 series are opencenter with the timing gear driven pumps and the 6000's are all what they call pressure flow compensated. It works like closed center but uses an open center style pump.
I've got a 4440 with power shift. The hydraulics all work but the 3 point won't lift any weight. Will this valve cause that if it's not working properly?
Better late than never, I do appreciate the video. The rockshaft valve on my 2240 is sticking or bypassing ???, the lever or the rockshaft will not stay down. Do you have a video working on this valve or the rockshaft control area? Thanks from Montana.
Thanks a lot for a very informative video. I have a curious problem on a JD5820 with milky or foamy oil in the transmission and struggling lifting power on the FEL. I thought it was water in the oil and have changed the lot including filter and cleaned suction screen however no difference. I do know if the 5820 has this bypass valve but I am leaning toward something bypassing and aerating the oil. After it has been left the oil clears up. Any ideas to check next would be appreciated. Thanks for your videos 👍
It sounds like the pump may be cavitating and adding air to the system. Check the oil is correct for the system and also look for leaks on the inlet lines. Also check there is not a remote lever stuck in motoring or something and see if there is heat being generated around the FEL relief valve. I have not had a lot to do with the 5000 series but from memory they were open centre hydraulics with a gear pump.
@@BundyBearsShed Thanks Lance I will check everything you said and post back here. They are open centre and I thought load sensing as well (not sure). I am away atm so will have a look Tuesday next week. Thanks so much for your guidance.
So you talk about the lugs being broke off the end of the valve which is what I found on my 2550. Will this make slow rear lift and hard steering or will the valve still work with them missing? Thanks
Have you ever come across a deere 950 or with the turbo called the 1050? I'm still running mine and she's a brutal girl that never gives up and is far stronger than most new comparable new models
I just bought a John Deere 2020 1967 it has no downtilt pressure on the bucket and no down pressure with the arms to lift the front tires. It will pick up a load of manure and dump it. But down till it won’t even extend the cylinders all the way. And the arms will not lift the front of the tractor off the ground. Any suggestions? Thank you
I bought and just installed a rebuilt high pressure pump in my 1830 jd but the loader is very slow and the steering seems to not be getting enough oil either. To get increased flow/pressure will turning the adjusting mechanism on the pump do the trick or is there something else? I verified there is excellent charge pressure coming to pump. also the old pump i took out had alot of pressure but i replaced it becasue it was pounding and cracked the high pressure output line which goes to the priority valve.
@@BundyBearsShed I measured the pressure by plugging in a gauge into the quick coupler on a pioneer nipple and throwing/holding the level. I adjusted the pressure to 2450 lbs and there was a marginal improvement in loader movement. But what happens is if the tractor runs at moderate idle for a short time the pressure builds to 2450 but the loader moves quickly for a few seconds then slows down. The pressure drops down below 2000 and is slow to recover. It takes 10 seconds to recover to 2450. Also if I run the engine at 2000 rpm the pressure does not build up and only if the rpm is 1000-1400 does the pressure build up ideally.
I have a 5525 john deere that my loader is working fine, the three point goes and down but drifts down when setting, it appears but my rear hydraulics are not working at all. I have changed the filter and fluid even though the filter looked clean and checked the screen. I cannot locate the Bypass valve on this machine . Even with diagram from John Deere. When starting the tractor it sound like a lot of hydraulic pressure is built up. The motor bogs down. Any idea. Would this valve be the issue or something much more costly?
I suppose you need to work out if it is the only thing not working and if everything else is fine pop the lift cover off and you will probably fine what is wrong.
hi, I write from Italy. thanks for the many help / advice you give! I have a problem on my JD. The old owner was traveling without a transmission filter. During a full service I decided (rightly) to put it back. But with transmission filter, arms and steering do not work. As if no oil / pressure is coming. If I remove the filter, everything works. Could it be some enchanted valve? thank you
That is a strange problem to have. I would say clean the screen in the bottom and make sure the new filter is in the correct way, early ones could be back to front but not the later ones.
@@BundyBearsShed Thanks for the reply. yes very strange. I have checked and actually there are different types of filters for the 3130. the supplier provided me with a model they believed compatible. but unfortunately he must have been wrong. now order an AR75603 which appears to be "free on both sides". hope to resolve. I keep you updated
If it has a big washer in the canister it has the AR75603 but early ones were closed at the outer end the open end went up to the gearbox. The later filter is way cheaper and if it had the early one you can fit the plate to use the cheaper filter.
@@BundyBearsShed I understand . thanks for these valuable info! the dealer had provided me with the AL25554. these days I get the AR75603 and I immediately test. It may be that the old owner fell into this mess, that's why he eventually took it off.
here we are . installed the code AR75603 and everything looks ok! the spare parts dealer apologizes for the mistake. The important thing was to understand and solve! no bleeding needed? the front pump seems a bit noisy. it becomes silent under load but slightly noisy with the tractor in neutral / running but stationary .
Hello, im from sweden i have a john deere 2040s, The front pump won't get any oil from the transmission, The filtrers are new and also the front pump, can a bypass valve be the reason the transmission doenst get preassure? The liftarms went down so i guess its a inner leak, is it possible to get down there without lifting the cab?
Hi , from saskatchewan Canada. I very successfully used one of your videos to repair the steering valve on my jd 300 loader tractor after it sitting for 6 years , but now after the downtime the hydraulic pump is leaking . It has the big pump ( i think 23 gpm or something like that) are you going to do a video on rebuilding these pumps ?
Could malfunctioning of this valve cause sufficient pressure buildup in the filter housing to blow hydraulic fluid out past the filter housing o-ring/gasket?
@@BundyBearsShed Is blowout there a common problem? Bought tractor at a dealer and used it for a year and suddenly one day it just dumped a load of fluid in a few moments. Replaced screen and filter but apparently didn't get the gasket back right... blew leak just like original problem. Can it rest in housing groove for install? Need torqued?
hi. thanks a lot… today i ha e clean bypass valve but situation is not resilved.. i have a 3040 4wd .. if i power on and wait 10 minutes at minimum rpm and hylo anctive, machine lost the elevator… if i accelerate the motor, the elevator return operational.. any idea?
The draft cam will have dropped to the side of the rockshaft teardrop. pot the top off and shim the rubbing block and put it back on and it should be good. Make sure you have not bumped the rate of drop lever closed with your foot.

I tried the Valve pulled it apart and it moves freely easy started the tractor and noticed My PTO turns all the time unless you really rev it have split the tractor and pulled the hi/lo clutch pack and the PTO brake and PTO clutch pack and transmission pump can't see eany damaged Steel lines going to inspect the PTO brake tomorrow
Lance, thank you for the video. I'm struggling with hydraulics in similar tractor and your help makes a change in my understanding of the circuit. Suppose, a bypass valve with broken off fingers rotates in the seat. Can it lead to any crack in the line before the filter if the filter gets terribly packed with debris? Do you know what oil pressure should be in charge line of JD 2040s?
Thanks for the reply Lance, a follow up question if I may. I've had the valve out and is operational as per your video. I did notice that one of the locating lugs at the end was broken off. This is probably in the sump now I guess, I removed the hydraulic filter and it has very little oil in it, so maybe not getting oil into it. To test I turned over tractor and can see that no oil getting to the filter. So does that mean it could be either the valve is opening and dumping back to sump for some reason, the valve is closing and transmission pump is not working, or the hydraulic pump is buggered. Apologies for the long winded question, as a first timer, just wanted to see if I could get a hint before pulling it to bits, thanks Christian
Hello, you videos are great, very informative and I'm sure help hundreds if not thousands of people with their equipment. I recently purchased a John Deere model 510 and would like to install one or two sets of remotes at the rear immediately and a loader at some point in the near future. Can I use hydraulic pressure from the transmission pump or is the front mounted pump the best option? Thanks again for your videos, keep up the great work! From Ontario Canada
Front pump for sure but if you buy an aftermarket valve make sure you buy a closed center one and crank the relief valve to higher than the front pump pressure.
Came across your video trying to find out why I loose all hydraulic pressure like 3 point and steering on my jd 1120, I could run the tractor for a bit then all of a sudden no hydraulics, I shut it off let it sit for a minute or 2 they work again, level is full, seem every time i loose hydraulic I have to shut it off, could that be the hydraulic pump in the front be getting hot and weak? or this valve that you showed, and if you could tell me where to start looking that would be great any help will do

I asked if this valve would make my loader chatter when I raise the bucket this is on a 2040 2wd please feal free to text me on this issue 207 578 1645 thank you
That is how the return is in the filter. I put a new front hyd pump on and it was fine for 3 or 4 months plowing snow and back to chattering do you think it maybe the internal pump off the transmission is what the john deere deler said it was but they also said it was the front pump I just don't know u do something to fix it and then it's no different than it was u get discouraged what is your thoughts
G Day Huw, Yes completely different, this used open center to work the low pressure system then the left over oil for the charge pressure on the front piston pump. Both have things they are better at.

on my JD 2020 i lost hydraulics. I removed the bottom hydraulic filter and started the engine. Not even a drip from the transmission pump. Would the filter bypass cause this? Also, i cant get the filter bypass valve out. It seems to be stuck in the tractor. Is there a tool to get this out if it is stuck? Thanks for the info.
No tool for the bypass valve, The oil goes from the screen to the trans pump then back to the filter. With no filter you should have flow. You may have a faulty trans pump. I have seen the gears crack on them.

@@BundyBearsShed Thanks for the reply, much appreciated!
Mr.
I would lift the top off and check the main piston o ring, as the John Deere tractors will hold up for days normally I would go there first.
@@BundyBearsShed I took it off. The main O ring crumpled as i took it out. Thanks a lot.
How loose should the valve be in the bore, mine is pretty slack fit and will move a few millimeters side to side?
They are quite loose.
i put my bypass valve in without turning it i tightened the nut and now i cant get it back out. any ideas
non of my hydraulics worked but now my clutch, brakes and steering dont either
You will need to get it out as nothing will work with it sideways. Try grabbing the roll pin
i tried with needle nose vise grips and it wont budge the roll pin bent. i removed the hyraulic filter and you can see the bypass valve ive tried punches to beat it out, prybars nothing works.can i get to it from inside the rock shaft housing and beat it out? im about ready to weld something to it and use a come along to pull it out.
No you cant see it by removing the rockshaft housing.
finally got the bypass valve out by drilling it out..i replaced it and steering is working good but the brakes and loader still dont work. any ideas? scv valve maybe?
I need one on the high and low the shifter little thing up top that also puts a PTO in gear
I have a little on that but I only do vids when I need to work on my own gear I dont strip gear down just for videos.
I took out the filter byoass valve and the roll pin was broken. Will that lead to my loss of hydraulic lift and power steering due to faulty valve?
Yes it sure will
Works perfectly now with new roll pin . Cleaned the screen also but was all the bypass valve. Thank you very much
Hey Lance I have a question regarding my 4440JD? I was bedding pens in our feedlot and all of a sudden it wouldn’t go forward. It wants to go forward but couldn’t. Then I kicked in my PTO and my tractor would move. Does this sound like a clutch problem not getting enough oil or a valve not working properly? Or is my clutch just gone? Thanks!
Sounds like a leak in the pto oil supply circuit.

@@BundyBearsShed cheers for the advice it worked well but the transmission dipstick is stuck in the transmission because of rust after being sitting with dirt on the cover

cos mine does
Hello. I have JD 2650 and have problem with constant pressure in hydraulic system. When tractor run at 1500 rpm or more the hydraulic cylinders who are attached slowely moves. Whay is this happening?
Thank you
Possibly a high pressure hydraulic leak. Im not sure what is hooked to it.
Hoked is front loader or at back trailer and hydraulic toplink. So this is leaking in control valves? How much pressure can be in system?
Pressure should be 2650 psi
@@BundyBearsShed I tried that. It did work but no more. So problem is injection pump?

hi there i have 6320 transmission heat oil light coming on when doing road work after about 40 minutes driving . i have blowing out the rad with compressor have check fan clutch tested themostat for transmission . filters and oil only changed 400hrs ago . next step is to take radiator out and test if engine coolant is mixing with transmission side of radiator. anything you recommend to check thanks luke
I have found that blowing out the radiator at times doesnt do the job but a pressure clean seems to get the extra out and have them run cooler. Certainly worth a try. Make sure the trans is not over full at all as that will generate heat as well.
I cleaned the Crud out of my valve, and bam! It works!! I would love to buy you a 6 pack. Let me know how to get you some $!!!
That is good news for sure, make sure you fit a new filter. buymeacoffee.com/bundybearsshed
friend I have problems in the direction it is very tough and the plow does not lift either, which could be a Jhon Deere 2850
Worth checking this and doing a filter change but they are known to have a split pipe in the Hi lo area at times.
@@BundyBearsShed I didn't remove the top when I performed this work. Only the shaft and components.
hi, good information… you are the best… in jd 3040 to remove the valve is nesessary to remove all hydraulic oil before? or can i remove valve unless remove oil?
If you are quick no need to remove the oil but if you are learning it is probably best to drop it.

Thanks for the video lance. I have 3130,
When I removed this valve, it was a little different like you mentioned-my question is how much pressure or torque should the bolt pushing against the spring have? Cause right now there isn’t any, the spring & plunger just slide end to end, with that centre bolt in tight... thanks
I have not done a 30 series for some time but there should be some pressure there Im sure,
Do you know where this valve is located on 3040 Made in Germany Tractor ?
Exact same place on the JD 3040 as on my JD1640
Does John deere 4440 have a bypass valve
Were is it located
I think it does in behind the filter but I havent worked on one in years so I couldnt be sure.
how do i get the air out of my hydraulic line on a 1020 john deere, hydraulics go down 1/3
Cycle it a few times it should self bleed.
Did they have mixed open center and closed center utility tractors over there too?
G Day Brian, Yes open center for the low pressure and what is left over from the pto, hi/lo etc. gives charge pressure for the closed center system.
Always fun and interesting learning about what they do worldwide. :-)
I've got a 4440 with power shift. The hydraulics all work but the 3 point won't lift any weight. Will this valve cause that if it's not working properly?
No I would look at the hydraulic piston o rings.
Better late than never, I do appreciate the video. The rockshaft valve on my 2240 is sticking or bypassing ???, the lever or the rockshaft will not stay down. Do you have a video working on this valve or the rockshaft control area?
Thanks from Montana.
They do tend to want to lift but a fiber washer on the lever to stop it is the go, they had one on standard.

Thanks
I try and fit them as close to original as possible but I dont think it should worry the flow.
Have you ever come across a deere 950 or with the turbo called the 1050? I'm still running mine and she's a brutal girl that never gives up and is far stronger than most new comparable new models
I have not seen one in ages, I dont think we had the turbo model here that I can recall.

G Day Lance very handy tip for anyone that has one of these tractors 👍
This tip will save a lot of money if it is followed.
Thank you
Replace the loader control valve with a double acting one or check the machine has double acting cylinders
my service book says to check spring compressed measurement. is that super critical? im playin with 300b hunting hydralic issue down myself.
Not normally.
You may be loosing it in the loader control valve if it is set lower than the system pressure.
Does the transmission pump supply pressure to your wet lines
Yes
I have a 5525 john deere that my loader is working fine, the three point goes and down but drifts down when setting, it appears but my rear hydraulics are not working at all. I have changed the filter and fluid even though the filter looked clean and checked the screen. I cannot locate the Bypass valve on this machine . Even with diagram from John Deere. When starting the tractor it sound like a lot of hydraulic pressure is built up. The motor bogs down. Any idea. Would this valve be the issue or something much more costly?
Is it coming straight up on to relief? if so check all valves are in neutral and feel for heat.
Aside from flush, filters and new oil, do you have any recommendations for troubleshooting a 1970 3120 with rear 3pt lift arms not lifting?
Do the filter, bypass valve and check system pressure.
Could malfunctioning of this valve cause sufficient pressure buildup in the filter housing to blow hydraulic fluid out past the filter housing o-ring/gasket?
No if it does that the ring has not been fitted correctly. The idea is to fit the ring up in the trans before fitting the cup.

Yes, it is
Thanks for the reply Lance, a follow up question if I may. Apologies for the long winded question, as a first timer, just wanted to see if I could get a hint before pulling it to bits, thanks Christian

on my JD 2020 i lost hydraulics.
