Thanks for all the knowledge you are passing along. We have 8 older JD s from 3020 to 4955 s some getting up to 14000 hrs, all in use and getting the job done. We do almost all repairs our selves so having you explain how things work helps allot.
@@BundyBearsShed I talked with a JD dealership guy to look at my JD 3040 tractor(it has a few problems). He was sincere enough to tell me that the intervention would be more expensive than the tractor itself ,and that i should learn to fix it myself. I started by fixing my main pump... On top of that ,they don t even work anymore on tractors this old.
Hello. I have a John Deere 3650 and I recently rebuilt the transmission. I changed discs, plates, o-rings, rubber rings from the hi low case, I also changed the pump in the transmission, I put a new one but it's on the aftermarket, I changed segments on the power take-off absolutely everything. I have problems with the steering and with the arms on the back, it is hard to lift and turns with knots. If I remove the cover from the gearbox and connect the two pipes between them with a hose, the steering works perfectly and with the arms on the back, when I put the cover on, the steering and the arms on the back no longer work. What could be the cause? Thank you!
On the shift cover there is two plugs on the rh side of it, put a 300psi gauge in the front one and check all functions and see if the pressure just drops away with one particular one on. It does sound like a leak in there somewhere, but you will need to test things to know exactly where you should look.
Greetings from Romania! Can you tell me please if the JD 3040 tractor has a similar transmision with this one? I have rebuilt my high pressure pump because the shaft and bearings were done(complete rebuild!). I am worried that my transmission pump may be tired also and that the main pump will run with little oil. I understand that this is the fastest way to destroy a new high pressure pump. Can you give me a few advices on what to look for if i feel that the main pump doesn t get enough oil? Can you tell if the transmission pump is bad only from how the 3p link and power steering works? Also the PTO never worked properly on this tractor ,it slips when trying mowing or round balling. Thanks in advance for any advice and please excuse my many questions!
@@BundyBearsShed Thank you very much for your quick reply! I suspect some oil line in the transmission is broken or the transmission pump s pumping days are over ,because it feels like the main pump never gets enough oil...
Hi mate got a question when you tested the clutch packs with air was it still mounted to the tractor? I got everything together when I spin the hi low sharft the PTO shaft doesn't turn and was wondering if that's cause I got it separated from the motor. Any help would be good thanks and amazing job your doing
I test on the bench and in the tractor, mainly for any leaks in the pipe work. It wont turn the pto just lock it up with the pto clutch and brake tests.

G Day Robby, Glad it helps, there is a good sense of satisfaction in doing things yourself. Makes farming way cheaper too.

The 3040 is exactly the same set up so going through the internal pump and packs will be a good move.
