My John Deere 3130 hydraulic pump cant receive the hydraulic fluid from the main reservoir in the diff. When I put hydraulic at the top small tank above the pump, it works well till the fluid runs dry. What could be the problem?

How does the pressure limiting system keep the pistons off the cam? Does the pressure compensating (relief) valve feed oil pressure to the pump case?

Clogged screen and or filter, bad transmission pump. Or not enough fluid.
