Man Of Constant Sorrow, Blue Ain't Your Color, Can't Stop The Feeling, Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get It On Folsom Prison Blues, American Pie, I could just keep going but this is a good place to start
Avi was classically trained in bass, which really focuses on smoothness. Tim has been pretty much focused on country singing and that slightly raspy style bass works really well in country music.
As Rachel said, you would really get a kick our of one of Adam's solo performances in their live shows. Here's one from 2019: ua-cam.com/video/YIwBjIZhug0/v-deo.html
Avi's real love IS folk, which is super evident by his solo music haha! But yes, his classical bass training and singing in a pop band for years and years will definitely have developed his tone in certain directions through the years.
If you are interested in beat box percussion you need to watch Man of Constant Sorrows. Home Free sings a wide range of genres with excellence which is one of the reasons I enjoy their music. Being a Home Fry (fan) is like being part of a family with members living all over the world yet right next door.
you're spot on regarding to the different "sound". Avi studied opera for several years and then performed pop although his real love is folk. One of the distinctive sounds of country is that "twang", so noting that "rounder" sound....very valid.
Greetings from a danish fry / new sub , just a friendly warning when you say you like our guys , the fries will come running and we are a very loyal fan group , BTW Tim Foust --MR. SUPERBASS is also from Texas

PLEASE listen to more.. If I know my Home Free family well, they have already given you suggestions of music. LOL Thanks for the reaction
You are the ONLY reaction that I have ever seen notice or mention the hat change for Avi. I love that little detail and ty for actually acknowledging it.
If you want harmonies, How Great thou Art is breathtaking. If you want more country twang and interesting sounds look at Man of Constant Sorrow. For a lot of laughs, the Butts remix, countrified pop medley, etc.etc. There really isn't a bad song. They even covered End of the Road originally by Boys II Men, sang with Kenny Rogers, and with the Oakridge Boys, and just recorded American Pie with Don Maclean for the fiftieth anniversary of that song.
I second Douglas's recommendation. Also, Avi shows up again in Home Free's "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget". Welcome to the Home Fry zone. Mrs. Brett
Chris is a great producer. He arranged most of their stuff. But I just think Adam chance really filled out the sound and gave Tim more time to shine in lead. And I think he fits the goofy group vibe a little better.
Great reaction. Most reactors I've seen do this one, miss the hat change (they're too blown away by Tim's last note). Voiceplay is a definite must. Their beatboxer is also amazing, as is their bass.
Love Home Free. Check out their cover of "When A Man Loves A Woman". Amazing drum beats by Adam Rupp and a absolutely stunning vocal lead by Austin Brown.
I am firmly convinced that Adam Rupp (the Human Drum Kit) actually swallowed a drum kit when he was a kid. I really encourage you to investigate the Home Free catalog, I promise your will find that they only get better. Whenever they cover a song, in my mind they end up owning it. I appreciate your reaction and analysis.
New subscriber here, found you through Home Free !! Really loved your reaction to their music, your analysis was great and I enjoyed your reaction to them alot. Just close your eyes and pick one.. they are all awesome. New Sub here. thank you for doing these videos.. Keep the Home Free stuff coming! Stay safe!
Welcome to the a cappella community! You’ve already experienced 2/3 of the bass singer trifecta that we all seem to gravitate to: Avi Kaplan (formerly Pentatonix), Tim Foust (Home Free), and Geoff Castellucci (Voiceplay) 😊🎤🎶
The triad of acapella, Pentatonix, Home Free, and Voiceplay each has their own niche in the community. Pentatonix is mostly pop music, Home Free is, obviously, country, and Voiceplay is theatrical. They go from minimal props to full production. There's something for everyone or, if you are a big acapella fan you watch them all. 😄
Home Free is amazing. Adam Rupp has a drum solo on UA-cam and he’s amazing. Three of the guys in HF are from the south, Tim, the bass is from Texas. Chance, the newest member is from Alabama and Austin, the high tenor is from Georgia. Founder Adam Rupp the beatboxer and Rob, tenor with beard and glasses are from Minnesota. They are country but sing all genres of music gospel, pop, R & B, country. They were on the NBC show the Sing Off and won in 2013 the year after Pentatonix won. They are friends and Avi is featured here and shows up in another HF video. The boys like to have fun so they have some funny videos too. Try How Great Thou Art, Man of Constant Sorrow, Seven Bridges Road, Country Roads to hear great harmonies.
They call Adam...”A Freak of Nature”.....he’s pretty incredible 🙃‼️🙃. I’ve been almost bout 10’ in front of him at. Concert...&, Oh, Hell !!!!!! It AWESOME !!!!
@@tarjaikola One of those rumors that has been repeated so often it's accepted as gospel. He's full time with Home Free - no idea when he would even have time to go do competitions! I think he would do well, but there's no evidence I can find of him competing. I even found him going head to head with a drummer in a video about 13 years ago, but no competition footage. He's good enough that I believe if he had entered, there would be video.
@@dogtrainerjen I’m replying to every comment I see about this. It is so frustrating. I’ve talked with Adam and he said he has no interest in competing or in competitions, and that he is more interested in the musicianship rather than just the speed or gimmicks. He still adores Beardyman and Reeps1, mainly b/c of their great musical talent.
I promise that once you listen to Home Free a few times you won't miss instruments for even a minute. It doesn't hurt that they have one of the best beat boxers in the world.

Sometimes I end up listening to it up to ten times, before I'm able to move on. I really hope that all the fans treat you well. We are quite greedy for reactions, but as long as you post regularly we'll be happy. The list of choices we'll be supplying you with is on the plentiful side and all of them are favourites. I have a 123 on my list and that does not include their side projects. They do country, they do gospel. They do covers, they do originals. They do ballads and they do funny really well. They love to work with the original artists of the songs they cover. Kenny Rogers, The Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama, Don McLean, etc. Also we must point out that they really stepped up and delivered during this quarantine. Their work, starting with Quarantine, has just been so good. Must warn you, they do layer some of their recordings, but rarely use a repeater in their live shows. Let's have some fun. Thank you
You got the change of hats correct. He was comically tipping his hat to Country music. Tim is frim Texas and doesn't really drop his twang unless the song absolutely demands it. Austin Brown, the high tenor from rural Georgia also leans into his twang unless the song demands a different style like Bring Him Home from Les Miserables.
No need to apologize..... just enjoy, enjoy, enjoy...... I truly loved your reaction and analysis. Please do more of Home Free if you dare!😉 Also, as a drummer yourself, do check out the 'Drum Solo' performed by Adam Rupp, who is best described as a 'Freak of Nature!'

You should check out Adam Rupp's Drum Solo their beatboxer. The oldest one is where he's in a red plaid shirt. He's a 2X world champion beatboxer voted as such by other beatboxers and judges in competitions in Europe.
I feel the difference between Avi Kaplan and Tim Foust is that Avi was trained as an operatic basso profundo (sp?). Tim has had voice lessons, I believe, but that is different than opera training. I believe that accounts for the difference in tone. They are both AMAZING!!!
Tim, the bass, is a Texas boy, too, as I am. Cant imagine the number of chicks he could attract with a voice like that! Adam, the beatboxer, is awesome good, and essential to the heartbeat of the group.
Great Reaction! Just subscribed hoping to watch your journey to the wonderful rabitt hole of home free. Although they are "country" a cappella they cover many different genres. I suggest the following songs to see what all they can do : End of the Road (Boyz II Men), Thinking Out Loud/ Lets Get It On Mashup (Ed Sheeran/Marvin Gaye), Helplessly hoping (5 part harmony bliss Crosby, Stills &Nash), Dive Bar Saints (original), Catch me if you can (original) and a recent Adam Rupp drum solo ( there are several out there choose a more recent one, many react to older one but he just keeps getting better)
Just subscribed. Please keep doing a capella reactions like home free, PTX and voiceplay. Welcome to us home fries (that's how we fans call us). As already suggested, please do a reaction to Adam Rupp drum solo 😊 Because you've already gotten so many suggestions, I'll save mine for later. Just one thing, please wait for the reaction to Mayday until you know all the members and their vocal range, then it's even more stunning. Keep going, keep save 😉
besides checking out Adam Rupp’s drum solo video - listen to their new-ish track of Mary Did You Know for some unique beatboxing sounds. Also, FYI Avi trained in school as an opera singer.
Avi hardly ever doesn't wear a beanie. At the end of the song, Avi puts on a cowboy hat in homage to Tim's low note. Love the respect they have for one another.
I'm not someone who follows Home Free, so I don't really know their backgrounds/training. However, I do know Avi trained in classical/opera singing prior to PTX, and that whole genre I feel they focus on things like diction and projection, and producing that fuller sound, so perhaps that may be what you're picking up on. I don't know if you've seen it yet, because I'm starting at your oldes vids & working forward, but, for a good example of Avi showing that off is when PTX perform Aha! Live they always do a short classical interlude 4 part harmony of Christ's Factus Est (I believe it was originally added in so that Kevin could take his cello off stage before Aha! starts), mostly where Avi takes the transition from one song to the next is where he shines. That said, the whole performance is incredible for the juxtaposition of the bass & high, which I think I've heard one of them said they were going for (especially after Mitch does his count in mid way through). The most impressive live version of Aha! in general, is considered the Singapore, Star Vista one (because Mitch just _goes off_ ), however, keep in mind that Avi had kinda damaged the speakers with his prior bass ridiculousness, and also it's recorded on a cell phone, so it's not the cleanest version of either interlude or song, but it's just too good a performance in general to not see.
i've just noticed your channel, having seen your reaction to Time, by Pink Floyd. since you are a drummer, i think you should react to an early live performance, by them, at Pompeii, in 1971. the track is Echoes. it's 23 minutes long, so it comes in 2 parts. the drumming on that is fabulous. probably his best performance. the whole piece is composed in much the same way as a classical piece, except it's psychedelic rock. many fans [including me] say it's their favourite song of theirs. i'm sure you'll love the whole thing.
the reason the sound different is because of how they sing. watch Avi as he is singing his mouth has more of an O formation. while when Tim sings his mouth opens up more and he drops his lower jaw back. which allows for the "twang". When Tim sings with his mouth in the O shape it is lot smoother. but it is more natura; for the country twang to be there. But no matter what he sounds terrific. As does Avi, But Home Free will always be my fave. as long as i'm not listening to a track of there's
I don't see that you have this "behind the scenes" by former band member Chris Rupp. It explains a bit including the hat 🙂Avi and Homefree, particularly Avi and Tim as bass singers, were friends. In fact Tim, Austin and Avi all live in the Nashville area today. Avi was classically trained in opera and choral singing and his timbre is quite appealing to begin with, to hear that in a different style of music try both Avi in "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair" and Tim in "Misty Mountains" with Peter Hollens. Homefree Ring of Fire ft Avi ua-cam.com/video/rFdnzwkcD_cb/v-deo.html

Home Free can and does cover every type of music, country, pop, do whop, soul, comedy, romance. Man of Constant Sorrow. When a Man Loves a Woman. Champaign on a Beer Budget Butts Remake. Avi's voice is butter, Tim's is bourbon. Two great tastes that you might not think taste great together, but oh, do they ever!
Great description of how the two bass voices are different from each other.
I think Avi’s voice is more melted chocolate
I always think Avi putting on the cowboy hat at the end was an homage to Tim’s crazy low note hold. Love Avi’s smile
I thought Avi putting on the black hat was a nod to Johnny Cash "The Man In Black"

Tim, the bass, is a Texas boy, too, as I am. Cant imagine the number of chicks he could attract with a voice like that! Adam, the beatboxer, is awesome good, and essential to the heartbeat of the group.
Marg Fried has a good list to start with, American Pie and Butts medley
I really liked how you broke the song down. I really hope when I search that you continued to review Home Free.
Them live is amazing Home Free - Country Rebel HQ Session - UA-cam
You would really enjoy the Drum Solo of Adam Rupp, the beat boxer
Voctave and Voiceplay are two other a cappella groups you should check out.
My aca-faves
Pentatonix- more dance/ pop
Home free- more country and goofy
Voice play- more Disney/ theatrical and playful
Avi sure looks good in a cowboy hat. And Tim always looks good. Let's face it. They all look good. LOL
Just subscribed. Please keep doing a capella reactions like home free, PTX and voiceplay.
Welcome to us home fries (that's how we fans call us).
As already suggested, please do a reaction to Adam Rupp drum solo 😊
Because you've already gotten so many suggestions, I'll save mine for later.
Would love to see you react to "Adam Rupp drum solo" performance.
For the most impressive attacks & releases, etc., watch their Helplessly Hoping video. It will blow your mind.

i've just noticed your channel, having seen your reaction to Time, by Pink Floyd. since you are a drummer, i think you should react to an early live performance, by them, at Pompeii, in 1971. the track is Echoes. it's 23 minutes long, so it comes in 2 parts. the drumming on that is fabulous. probably his best performance. the whole piece is composed in much the same way as a classical piece, except it's psychedelic rock. many fans [including me] say it's their favourite song of theirs. i'm sure you'll love the whole thing.
You should really react to their Butts Remix and The End of the Road
the reason the sound different is because of how they sing. watch Avi as he is singing his mouth has more of an O formation. while when Tim sings his mouth opens up more and he drops his lower jaw back. which allows for the "twang". When Tim sings with his mouth in the O shape it is lot smoother. but it is more natura; for the country twang to be there. But no matter what he sounds terrific. As does Avi, But Home Free will always be my fave. as long as i'm not listening to a track of there's
You should hear Adam’s drum solo. It’s AWESOME!
Man of Constant Sorrow
Tim Foust bass can reach G1 and was inducted into the Music Hall of Fame last year.
For more Bass, you need to add in Geoff Castalucci from Voice Play. He has released a few solo things recently. Have a listen to Sixteen Tons.
New Sub, Home Fry
if you want to hear the range of what Homefree can do then listen to "Man of constant sorrow" you enjoy.
Try the ‘Drum Solo’ Adam Rupp did live on stage at one of Home Free’s concerts. I highly recommend it.

React to Adam Rupp drum solo. Red flannel shirt is an older one but I think it’s on of his best. Then any of the ones since he has only gotten better.
❤

I think you should react to Man of constant sorrow.
You need to listen with headphones, not earbuds. Richer sounds.
