    Thanks for your videos on the fan delete on Ram 1500. I did it on my 2013 Ram 1500 4x4 5.7. I found out a few things I would like to share with anyone doing it. You can get plug pigtails that hook directly to the fan and factory harness so you could wire it anyway you want without hacking OEM harnesses. 2003 to 2005 Ford Vic fan plugs (Salvage yard find) are the same as the 2013 Ram. The Ram water pump has a plug on it that can be removed for adding another coolant sensor of your choice.

    I installed the v6 electric fan on my 2011 shortly after seeing your original video . My bully dog programer doesn’t have setting for turning on /off electric fan , so what I did is use a flex a lite fan control module, and bypassed the stock electric fan connection plug all together . That with a 190 thermostat the set up works flawlessly .

    That clears up a lot for me. I'm buying a 2014 ram so this is very helpful. What i will do is go with a tuner, 160 stat, V6 fan, and that will allow me to double or triple the radiator size (whatever I can get to fit in Texas with weather now going to 115, you can't get too big on a radiator) , making up for less airflow. I will also install fans in front of a/c condenser for more airflow and ice cold a/c. We tow in 100 degree weather and I want real performance.

    • @mattbertrand2077
      @mattbertrand2077 Рік тому

    • @j.d.mcginn6946
      @j.d.mcginn6946 Рік тому +1

      Over the years I have ran both 160 and 180 stats and the 160 stat is always superior. Vehicle retains the same compression at 30,000 miles as at 200,000 miles. Seriously. I ran a 180 stat in a 2006 durango and did drive it to 175,000 miles, but it was smoking oil, had to add oil between oil changes, using excess fuel, basically it needed overhauled. I went back to 160's. Remember, you have to also beef up the cooling system since if you dont it might run 170 all winter and 230 all summer. Also, "its in the middle of the gauge between the C and H so its ok right?" No its not. Thats about 230 on most stock vehicles, way too hot for me.

    • @mattbertrand2077

      For the Ram 1500 it's the above: 2 16" spal fans for front of a/c condenser, manual switch to operate on the dash, also wizard cooling in NY makes my all aluminum radiators. When I get my ram I'll remove the clutch fan and measure carefully how much thicker i can go with the new one, and tell WC. then you send them your old radiator so they can copy it while building to my specs. I can't wait to see how it performs should be much better than stock.

    You can also remove one of the fan relays for a temporary cooling. When removing one of the fan relays the ecu detects an open circuit therefore keeps the fan running on. Yea it will kick on on cold starts but at least you won't have to see your temp gauge go up and down all the time. The fan will start all the time keeping the temp at at least 200° when fully warmed up. And yes you will get a check engine light.

    2016 Ram 2500 PW, I removed the mechanical fan tonight and took a run up to the ski hill to around 8000ft. going slow holding 4200 rpm to simulate a trailer. And without a trailer I almost over heated got up to 245 it cooled off quickly once I turned around and got air flowing. I ordered a V6 fan last week, and will give it a try again once it's here, I am hopeful it will perform better, a little worried for pulling the camper. I will try a cooler thermostat and maybe look into trying to add a electricly actuated mechanical fan like the cummins. If this doesn't work.

  • @synack7350
    @synack7350 2 роки тому +2

    For those who are concerned that the truck will overheat / will run hotter. The facts: The fan is only there to provide cooling during low speed or when stopped (idling). Above 40mph, temperature is entirely regulated by the thermostat (if you don't believe me pull your thermostat entirely and see if the engine warms up going down the highway with the fan disabled). If you are in stop and go conditions without a tune yes engine and trans temps will be higher. The factory E fan on temp setting is 223F. Though this can be overridden by AC pressures when your AC is on.
    A solution for those not interested in a tune to turn the fan on at a lower temp. You could wire a manual switch to the efan and turn it on when you desire. This would cost you around $20 instead of around $400 - 600 for a tuner.
    For those going the tuner route pay attention to the High Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) fan settings. It is not desirable to run a fan at highway speeds (40+MPH). At these speeds, running your fan is actually restricting flow and putting strain on your fan motor.

    I bought my 2017 Laramie Classic (Loaded) brand new and never knew that it had an electric fan until this year (2023, I never heard it turn on) when I was troubleshooting an overheating issue on my 8HP70. The trans overheating was due to the malfunctioning of the Trans Heater. Once I replaced that I began to search out why my fan never came on. The 60A fuse looked good so I checked the relay and the plug. It wasn't getting power. I went thru all of the schematics and discovered that the 10A fuse had no power with the ignition on and the schematic indicated that it should. I discovered that the Run Start relay would not send power to it unless the engine was running. when the engine was running the fan relay had power on both the energizing circuit and the fan run circuit. I returned to the 60A fuse and pulled it to run an ohms check, it was defective. Replaced the 60A fuse and all is good. Even though I had not been over heating, everything is running cooler that before.

    For clarification for some who aren't aware...the "stock" e-fan on the gen4 Hemi is the cooling fan for the a/c condenser core. It is not meant to (and will not) handle the heat load of the engine coolant. It is for the a/c condenser only! DO NOT remove the mechanical fan and only run on the stock e-fan for the V-8. Those two fans are designed to work in tandem. The e-fan from the V-6 '09-'12 gen4 truck takes the place of both of the previously mentioned fans, and works fabulously! For the new "V-6 fan"...the fan on/off is controlled by the a/c switch. A/C on = fan on. A/C off = fan off. And that works fine, as long as you understand those limitations. The only way to set on/off of the e-fan to be temperature-controlled is to use a tuner like a Diablo, and set the temp. Most users swap the t-stat to a 180°F unit, and set the fan on/off around that same temp. Most users see operating temps average around 195°F.

    Let me run a hypothetical by you.
    quick background, I have a '14 1500 and I'm in the process of getting a whipple.
    Planning on doing the V6 conversion, but lets say I did the mechanical delete instead and just ran with the stock electric fan.
    Already knowing that the super will generate more heat, i assume the stock fan would be supremely over-tasked regardless of the built in heat exchanger and intercooler/radiator supplied by the kit.
    Here's my question:
    What if you installed a water/methanol injection kit?
    Theoretically, with that running through the engine, temperatures produced would be lower and the need for a larger more capable fan would be negated, correct?
    Anyways, any answer is appreciated, just spit balling ideas here.

    I have a 2016 5.7 ram. If i change the intake to the k and n cold air, and change the muffler to a magnaflow, do i need to get it tuned?

      Nope you can just install those. You would benefit more from a tune but it will run just fine

    What tuner works best for editing the fan temp parameters and setting it for fuel economy. 2010 TRX4 5.7.
    I want to set the low fan speed to 189 and the High fan speed at 195. I then want to set my hemi to get 16mph period.

    I have a 14 ram 1500 and I did the efan swap with the v6 efan from a 2010... no tune (and I don't want to get one) and the thermostat is stock... temp gets to 220 and the fan comes on and drops it down to around 200... but my problem now is the when sitting at idle the truck will begin to almost stall and rev back up and then almost stall again and continue this cycle... any insights on what's causing this? I also have the vararam air intake but I had this installed before the fan swap and the truck ran fine. thanks for any info you may have!

So I have a question about the fan swap the one that you listed when I put it on Amazon it automatically told me doesn't fit my truck which is still good right cause it for a v6 2006-2012 right i have a 2018 big horn 1500 4x4

      There is no use in getting a tune all you can tune in the Diablo Sport i3 is AC fan setting's ON, or AC fan settings off, that's it there is no tune for heat setting on or of don't get sucked in.

    Great videos as always!
    Question... I have a 2018 ram limited and want to remove the mechanical fan... my question is... where would you go to get the pcm unlocked? I would consider getting the tuner as I also want to program the mds system to be off all the time.... its such a pain to do it thorough the transmission + and - buttons every time... ... I baught a v8 and want to keep it a v8...

    @BoostedMotorsports or anyone that knows .. I did the fan swap (no tune) months ago and definitely noticed mpg gains (3+mpg) and throttle response. But now it's hot and humid and my a/c is struggling. I thought it needed a charge but it was right where it needed to be when I bought the refill kit. I just purchased a tuner. Will that help blow cooler air? Or should I change out the thermostat? If so, what degree stat should I change it out to? 190? Thanks in advance ..

    Sorry for the late question but, i got confused about the towing aspect you mentioned it wouldn't be efficient... Leaving the stock electric fan only?... Or using the v6 electric fan? I have mods and stuff so i have the tuner thats no prob but i do tow heavy and live on 95+ degree so i just want to be sure this v6 e-fan would be worth the shot. TIA

    • @BoostedMotorsports
      @BoostedMotorsports  5 років тому +3

      You should be fine with the V6 fan and a tuner. Only thing I was saying is how some people just remove the mechanical fan and use the stock electric fan to cool which would work but might not be adequate for towing due to not having a sealed fan shroud and being slightly smaller than the V6 fan.
