I just bought a Maytag wash/dry set from 1985 for $150 identical to my 1987 set that still work perfectly after the 15 years I’ve owned them…and the 36 years since new ! 15 years ago I paid $1200 for a Maytag Neptune washer that lasted 4.5 years…never again! Upon that breakage 15 years ago, I talked to the guy who invented the ‘Tony Tool’ who advised I simply throw away the Neptune and buy the ‘old reliable’ Maytag from the 80’s and earlier. Todays junk is deplorable !
I have had friends buy top loader washing machines without the agitator. The salesperson said the washing machine would weigh the cloths and fill it with it figured the amount of water. My friends said they wasn't satisficed with the low water level before it started washing. They called the store where they purchased the washing machines and told them to pick them up and get a washing machine that would fill up with water. That's the idea is to fill the washer with water so the dirt could get into suspension and be pumped and spun out. Too much government control in our lives.
On my model whirlpool cabrio WTW8500DC2 there’s no tabs to release with a putty knife, instead after pulling towards you, lift up and then you will see a “hook” on each side while lifted you slide back ever so slightly until the hook is released from the slot. You can see the hooks in his video.
I absolutely despise working on this model. This one and it's Maytag equivalent. A common failure point that I've noticed on them is the run capacitor. So many of them I've seen start to leak out it's contents. I always tell customers to avoid this model
I'm getting a screeching / rubbing sound on some high spin cycles, but only in certain modes, i.e. whites with this 2 in 1 model. Other modes, no sound in high spin. I was looking for videos to remove the cover to see if something has fallen between the tub and sides. Seems you are the only UA-camr addressing this model and not as easy as older models to remove. I'm not yet comfortable taking off the cover as you described. Figure I could get it off okay with the putty knife, but not confident I'll get it back on properly. If it gets worse, I'll try, until now just avoid certain modes. 1 year full warranty just expired.
As a technician, my boss and I have had long fights with these popping them off and putting them back on. Will definitely be trying this method out in the future!
Absolutely horrible design, what was wrong with the previous one? Also these water valves seem to fail very easily if you take the screen out to clean them.
I gave up on the 2012 Whirlpool top load HE machine. The shaft seal kept failing a year or so after I replaced everything and it would get noisy again and even leak eventually as the water seeping past the seal would rust the bearings and shaft. I bought the bearing tool and everything but got tired of tearing the machine completely down to replace all the parts after a year or less. Seems like a lousy design prone to failure. I have replaced it with a LG 7900 that has good reviews and a 2 year warranty from Costco a while back and so far it's been great and it appears the shaft drive and seal system is way better designed and self contained so if it finally fails you replace it as a unit rather than trying to properly seat two bearings and a critical water seal. I ended up with a 4 year warranty by using their credit card too so hopefully won't have to worry about anything for a while.
You are a LIFE saver!! I attempted to lift the top off (fighting with it!) over 3 hours and then I found your video!! Saved me $300 on a repair! Works GREAT!
I do videos on what I have. This is a new one and it's very likely WP will switch to this design permanently or near that. So I wanted to get basic videos in for this. I have one more video on reset/recalibration and then I assure you I'll be moving on from it. As a note last year I did this same thing with GE. 4 videos on the same frontload
I have a 6 month old whirlpool wtw5057lwo when the drum changes direction it sounds like stripping gears and the agitator spins faster than the drum when this noise is happening
@@bensappliancesandjunk Ihave been a tech for over 40 years. I really like your videos. One video that was appreciated was where you explained how it’s better to have the icemaker in the freezer and not in the door or small compartment in the fresh food. You explained the dynamics of that scenario quite well, as well as the dispenser water inside in the wall of the interior fresh food compartment . 2 great points.
Old models were easy, these new ones are hit or miss. Some come off easy but when you run into one that doesn’t you’ll realize how much of a pain these tabs can be. I’ve done a couple and no amount of jiggling or back and forth will release them. Sometimes it’s just luck. I’ve tried butter knives and my trusty putty knife and neither have worked. I’m guessing this is a combination of poor QC and the company wanting less people to try and fix them. Either way I appreciate the video. The first one I did it worked but the 2nd one wouldn’t move and I just lifted the back of top till I got to what I was working on. Thankfully I didn’t need the top completely off to work on the basket or drum because I never got it to release.
I love your videos but it seems that they have find yet another way to make it more difficult with the WTE505LW0 model. There are now metal clips in 4 places that are nearly impossible to get off. (I accidentally threw something in the wash that couldn't get wet and it would not release the lid lock, no matter what I did so, naturally, I broke the lock to save my item. They really need an emergency release. This is ridiculous. Or just not have a locking lid. I don't have little kids but I could have a little kitten who sneaks into my laundry basket..... Just saying.)
These machines have a "technician mode" where you can test components separately. It's activated by choosing three keys on the control panel and typing them in succession (any keys, like 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3). I don't have specific information about washers, but I'm certain one of the tests will be a lid lock test where you can unlock it.
Whirlpool finding new and incredible ways to screw with everyone. It's like the Comcast scenes from SouthPark...
Sticking putty knife in gave me just enough height to clear the clips he mentioned. Terrible design WP 😂

I have put many caps on as well.
just gotta give it a harder yank the first time. that adjusts the tabs by itself. nothing different.

I do it daily when I'm checking them out. I also remove latch lock to watch them work then I replace it with new
Bend the latches up and out of the way? That's a terrible design!
Absolutely! Its a really bad design, yet its what they tell you to do.

You seem to be fixated on whirlpool

I have a w11657337b and it doesn't shut up it's like an alarm please know how to shut it up.
Couldn’t you have lifted the rear area of the top and pushed forward to get the same result?
I have a video where I did that. I had to take off the back panel and pressure hose for it to work
