Gun Sam , I know I say this all the time but it has to be said , "You're an AMAZING shot" ! I kinda' like that ammo especially the .357 . The .45 did really well considering it's a 230gr. round . Best part , it's pretty inexpensive .Thanks Gun Sam , great test !
I am really surprised at the 45 performance. In my experience from a couple decades ago the 45 usually did not open up, especially the CCI "flying ashtrays" That were so common back then.

I've never used a whole lot of it but I have shot a few boxes of the fmj's and I liked them pretty well. I had a few duds in just one box but the rest were fine. Really clean nice looking rounds too, not dirty like a lot of big name ammo.

Mag spring is compromised or a little weak that may be the reason for nose dives. But that 45 acp is dandy caliber. That ammo performed pretty good. Thank you for what you do and Merry Christmas 🎄

GS. Thanks for sharing another good and interesting ammo comparison video. It was good to see the .357 XTP results, I have reloaded both 110 Gr and 125 Gr .357 XTP's in the last couple days but not as hot as what you were shooting. Take care and Merry Christmas.
I always look at ".357 vs .45" as really a contest between revolver vs semi-auto pistol. I doubt that an aficionado of, for example, high capacity magazines would switch to a revolver and double action trigger just because they like a particular round's performance. However, regarding the .45 ACP, the misfeeds are disqualifying unless it is restricted entirely to paper punching. Any ammo/gun combination that is not 100% reliable is not qualified to be a self-defense combination - and is even questionable for hunting because hunting REQUIRES the ability to deliver a rapid follow-up shot for humane kills. I suppose you could also make a case for plinking or other "fun" shooting. It's always very interesting to review well-priced ammo, because it's expensive! But it has to work. Every time. I'm glad you done this test. My local store was completely out of defensive 45 ammo on the shelf but just received this same Ammo Inc 230 grain jhp in. I didn't buy any because I'm kind of picky when it comes to a defense or carry load. I like Federal HST and Speer Gold Dot myself as well as the Underwood Xtreme varients. If he still has some left next week I'll go get some . Thanks for the tests. Would live to see you try some G9 and some Gorilla Ammunition. Very few tests online from either of these.
I use that ammo inc in the 340pd I’ve got and it seems good ammo aside from the 6 foot flame out the muzzle on some rounds. Hits accurate and consistent on target and not too bad price wise.

I'm glad your doing better, I had a hospital visit last month, 40 years ago a friend of mine that ran the pro-shop at an outdoor range, hand loaded some 44-Mag pin loads for me, It was a Ruger Redhawk in SS with a 7+" bbl, he used WW. 296 Ball powder, which you probably know, is a slow burning powder, He said they were 1/10th of a grain over max, and he said don't shoot these in anything other than a Ruger, No S&W, they were spicy, I had a few high primers but nothing serious, they took the pins out quickly, the 357-Mag was my duty and EDC, and alternate between those and the 9mm, one of my faves is the Remington 125gr SJHP and the HSTs in 9mm, among others. Thanks for testing the .45 acp. I use it for my edc ammunition because it performs very well for being relatively inexpensive. I haven’t had the jams you have with my pistol.
I know that 686 has had a lot of shots run through it, and man alive... In that initial camera shot, it looked shinier than new. You do nice work at cleaning that revolver. I'd love to learn how you get those results.

Hey Sam, hope you have recovered. Some nasty viruses and COVID is making rounds again, big time. But very impressive, especially with the sternum, cannot imagine a living thing surviving a hit with bone fragments being pulled into lungs and heart with a center chest hit. Just looks devastating.

You may have already did this but what about .357 Sig vs ..357 Magnum. I dropped a .357 Sig barrel in my G22 and I can still use the .40 S&W stock mag in my Glock. It seems a lot hotter/faster and if the numbers are correct more powerful than the .40 but doesn’t seem to be a popular ammo on the local store shelves. Still…I do like all 3 of them but the Sig round maybe as good as the mag round🤷♂️. Happy holidays.
Last 2 times I used ammo inc .357 FMJ for target shooting, 2x 50 round boxes each time, I was not impressed. You get one box that's alright and somewhat consistent, and the other that is full of wild cards. In the bad boxes, 1 to 3 in every 5 rounds are crap. Usually, the bad rounds are just very noticeably softer on the recoil, but some of them feel like it's just a primer without powder in there and it has me checking the barrel for squibs. Problem 2 in the bad boxes is some of the cartridges form a dirty yellow scaly substance on the exterior of the casing when fired. This makes the spent casing very hard to extract, usually requiring me to tap the ejector rod on a bench to get it out. Also, generally requires blowing out the chamber before another round can be loaded without sticking. Problem 3, some of the crimps are jacked up and render the round unusable. The final item is probably just a me thing, but the powder they're using just seems dirtier than Fiocchi or Armscor. 100 rounds of either of those and the revolver is still relatively clean. 100 rounds of the ammo inc and both the gun and your hands are coated in soot. 2/10 would not buy again. As for .45ACP I've not tried it yet from ammo inc, but after the .357 performance I've personally had, I'm likely going to stick with Winchester or Sellier & Bellot.
when i first bought my 357 i got two boxes of the meplat fmj from a gun show at curiously low markup and the first cylinder i shot with it gave me a squib. it didn't give me any problems after that but it didn't help my view of them and i just finished off one box and didn't touch the other
Ammo Inc. load their 45acp at a higher velocity which easier gets expansion. I appreciate them for that. They sometimes use XDef rounds which are bonded, but this looks like normal JHP. I have both.

That's some good stuff. I wonder if they have a 110gr for snubs. The reliability of the 45 in that gun would be a concern for me. Too bad considering how well it performed.
I used to use ammo inc 357 magnum for years but I haven't done a velocity test on it yet because I don't have any on hand currently, in low light it throws an impressive fire ball, which is awesome and after seeing this it looks pretty impressive, I just recently picked up some ammo inc 44 magnum tmc and it feels like a pretty warm 44 magnum load, like it's close to federal American eagle 240 grain jhp or hotter. I need to run it through my chronograph and see what I get. I will let you know what I get for velocities.

Ive seen yhis exact 357 tested in a different video and the velocity was waaaaaay low and it performed very badly. Hopefully theyre producing more consistent ammo as of now
I buy a lot of ammo inc stuff. The only thing I don't like from them is their 100 grain 380 fmj. Doesn't seem to group well for me, in the gun I'm using anyway. Their 44 mag is a good one if you like to get beat up for cheap.
I have a G41 also, so I pay a lot of attention to your (seemingly-many) jams. Have you tried Underwood's 135-grain +P Defenders... or their 185-grain +P Noslers?
On the 45acp ammo issues. The projectile design varies widely so the feed-ramp just doesn't work good enough. NOT a gun issue per se but projectile to feed-ramp incompatibility. It's all simple, what ammo slides up the feed-ramp best. You test soo many different types/brands it's no wonder you have a few issues.
Gun Sam, thank you for the feedback on preferred 45 acp rounds. Could you give me your choice for dependable .357 Magnum rounds ? I would be carrying it in a Ruger GP 100 with a 4.2 inch barrel for CCW.
For a gun like that, there is no better round for defense than the 125 gr SJHP like Remington UMC/HTP, Federal equivalent or Winchester equivalent. Semi-jacketed hollow point 125 gr has that 96% one shot stop statistic from a 4" barrel at around 1,450 FPS.
Not having fired a Glock, is the cone of fire problems at 75 yards, the trigger, the ammo, the gun, or You? Many 1911s will give you around 3 inch groups at that range.
200 gr .40 is a bit too high. It surpasses the case capacity of normal, so your power factor would be lower than you might want. I'd estimate 800 fps. Underwood's is probably higher due to hot rodding and coated bullet, but in theory you want to be 135-165 gr for the most power, and 180 gr is fine but not great.
Don't buy any ammo from ammo inc.....I have found numerous rounds with no primers and some with primers and no powder in them from various calibers in the last two years!! That's scary when they sell a box of 50 with 2 or 3 underpowered in each box!! I will never buy their ammo again...if you do shake each load to check for powder.
I had a box of Fiocchi .380 auto JHP that had a round with no primer and no powder, yet it had a bullet. I have actually had an upside down bullet in a Hornady Critical Defense box of ammo before. This stuff happens all over the industry.

In reference to nosedives, I polish the feed ramps, seems to help in my .45 firearm!
You should put little statues or objects in the far background as easter eggs in your videos.
I think the 45 is using the XDEF bullet, on a side note it certainly performed well

Last 2 times I used ammo inc .357 FMJ for target shooting, 2x 50 round boxes each time, I was not impressed. You get one box that's alright and somewhat consistent, and the other that is full of wild cards.
In the bad boxes, 1 to 3 in every 5 rounds are crap. Usually, the bad rounds are just very noticeably softer on the recoil, but some of them feel like it's just a primer without powder in there and it has me checking the barrel for squibs.
Problem 2 in the bad boxes is some of the cartridges form a dirty yellow scaly substance on the exterior of the casing when fired. This makes the spent casing very hard to extract, usually requiring me to tap the ejector rod on a bench to get it out. Also, generally requires blowing out the chamber before another round can be loaded without sticking.
Problem 3, some of the crimps are jacked up and render the round unusable.
The final item is probably just a me thing, but the powder they're using just seems dirtier than Fiocchi or Armscor. 100 rounds of either of those and the revolver is still relatively clean. 100 rounds of the ammo inc and both the gun and your hands are coated in soot.
2/10 would not buy again.
As for .45ACP I've not tried it yet from ammo inc, but after the .357 performance I've personally had, I'm likely going to stick with Winchester or Sellier & Bellot.

when i first bought my 357 i got two boxes of the meplat fmj from a gun show at curiously low markup and the first cylinder i shot with it gave me a squib. it didn't give me any problems after that but it didn't help my view of them and i just finished off one box and didn't touch the other

Was pretty impressed with the 230 expansion. A lot of lower price 230 HP acts more like ball ammo. 900+ fps is a solid loading.
Ammo Inc. load their 45acp at a higher velocity which easier gets expansion. I appreciate them for that.
They sometimes use XDef rounds which are bonded, but this looks like normal JHP. I have both.
Also FWIW, AMMO INC/ AAC Ammo is Palmetto State Armory's Ammo Plant Ammo. They actually MANUFACTURE their Own Brass Cases, Bullets etc. and assemble their entire cartridges! They have been installing new top of the line production German made machinery to do this for years! They are the ONLY Actual USA Ammo Manufacturer that WILL NOT TAKE on GOVT Contracts for Ammo! (Unlike Winchester, Federal, CCI, etc) They make ammo for the AMERICAN Consumer! They Cannot be overloaded with billions of rounds of Govt Stockpile Ammo orders! MAC - Military Arms Channel did a video walk thru of the new plant months ago. Its very impressive! 👍😊😀😅🤣😂

That's some good stuff. I wonder if they have a 110gr for snubs. The reliability of the 45 in that gun would be a concern for me. Too bad considering how well it performed.
I used to use ammo inc 357 magnum for years but I haven't done a velocity test on it yet because I don't have any on hand currently, in low light it throws an impressive fire ball, which is awesome and after seeing this it looks pretty impressive, I just recently picked up some ammo inc 44 magnum tmc and it feels like a pretty warm 44 magnum load, like it's close to federal American eagle 240 grain jhp or hotter. I need to run it through my chronograph and see what I get. I will let you know what I get for velocities.

Ive seen yhis exact 357 tested in a different video and the velocity was waaaaaay low and it performed very badly. Hopefully theyre producing more consistent ammo as of now
I buy a lot of ammo inc stuff. The only thing I don't like from them is their 100 grain 380 fmj. Doesn't seem to group well for me, in the gun I'm using anyway. Their 44 mag is a good one if you like to get beat up for cheap.
I have a G41 also, so I pay a lot of attention to your (seemingly-many) jams. Have you tried Underwood's 135-grain +P Defenders... or their 185-grain +P Noslers?

On the 45acp ammo issues. The projectile design varies widely so the feed-ramp just doesn't work good enough. NOT a gun issue per se but projectile to feed-ramp incompatibility. It's all simple, what ammo slides up the feed-ramp best. You test soo many different types/brands it's no wonder you have a few issues.

I’d love to see how the ammo inc .44 mag 240gr performs. I have a box of it and it claims 1,589 fps muzzle and 1,347 ft lbs muzzle.

Gun Sam, thank you for the feedback on preferred 45 acp rounds. Could you give me your choice for dependable .357 Magnum rounds ? I would be carrying it in a Ruger GP 100 with a 4.2 inch barrel for CCW.
For a gun like that, there is no better round for defense than the 125 gr SJHP like Remington UMC/HTP, Federal equivalent or Winchester equivalent. Semi-jacketed hollow point 125 gr has that 96% one shot stop statistic from a 4" barrel at around 1,450 FPS.

Not having fired a Glock, is the cone of fire problems at 75 yards, the trigger, the ammo, the gun, or You? Many 1911s will give you around 3 inch groups at that range.

Ammo Inc rating for 357 mag is out of a 8-3/4” barrel. I hit its advertised in an 8-3/4”. Which… why even advertise that?

What do you think about 200 grain 40 sw vs 230 45 acp? Glock 21 , 230 grain vs Glock 22 , 200 grain hollows
200 gr .40 is a bit too high. It surpasses the case capacity of normal, so your power factor would be lower than you might want. I'd estimate 800 fps. Underwood's is probably higher due to hot rodding and coated bullet, but in theory you want to be 135-165 gr for the most power, and 180 gr is fine but not great.
Does the 45 have a little spike in the middle? Looks like hydra shoks. To me atleast.

Don't buy any ammo from ammo inc.....I have found numerous rounds with no primers and some with primers and no powder in them from various calibers in the last two years!! That's scary when they sell a box of 50 with 2 or 3 underpowered in each box!! I will never buy their ammo again...if you do shake each load to check for powder.
I had a box of Fiocchi .380 auto JHP that had a round with no primer and no powder, yet it had a bullet. I have actually had an upside down bullet in a Hornady Critical Defense box of ammo before. This stuff happens all over the industry.
