Wow! A dash 8.5 duo! That is extremely rare, even for that time! Too bad AC44C6C-Fs can't be found on NS like this anymore, they should have kept this locomotive, it had a stunning 90s-era K5LA, with all 5 bells sounding perfectly! Outstanding catch! What camera do you use? -and where was/what NS line was this taken at? I would like to know! That looks like a very steep grade and the scenery around there is beautiful, I wouldn't be surprised if this was taken near the PA/VA/VT/WA/TN area, great camera resolution and scenery indeed! I am guessing this is taken during late fall, near when this was uploaded in November?
@@thedwaynerailfansThey actually are. Rebuilt from Standard Cab C40-8s. They are called C40-8.5Ws meaning they are Dash 8s with a Crescent Cab. They were one of the most unsuccessful rebuilts for NS. I think all are retired and scrapped.
@@StevenKCRailfan oh, mb i didnt notice the cab till now. yea ik abt the 8.5s thanks for the remindeR and yes, u are correct they have all since been retired back in 2020
For Sale....NS has placed GE/NS AC44C6CF 8520 (former NS Dash 9-44CW 8946) up for sale. This unit was a DC to AC conversion designed by CAF USA, which was unsuccessful in testing and was not repeated.
Hard to believe that none of those engines are in operation now. All the Dash 8.5s were scrapped and NS 8520 is up for sale after the rebuild program was a bust.
@@kansasstatealerting717 Well yeah, I actually knew that but not before I put that comment, but I would still label it as 2nd (something) or Gen in quotation marks. 2nd Version Narrow Font K5LA
That K5 Horn is awesome. You don't hear anymore like those on NS. Nice to see this rebuild operating, I only saw it before it was sold.

This is on the WNYP
Keating Summit on the WNYP Railroad, the grade is upwards of 3%.
3 NS Rebuilts on one train! Awesome catch!
AKA Three Things you can’t see on NS Anymore.
actually, only one rebuild
those dash 8s arent rebuilds

And now every unit on this train is no longer on the roster.
Sad
Well at least #8520 didn’t suffer the same fate as the other 2 which were C40-8.5s
@@ns_guy5149are there any c40-8.5w's left?
@@lizggil123no all of them were sold for Scrap
Finally an actual video of NS 8520!!!!
i saw it a few years ago in a yard not knowing it would go away i wish i had some pictures
They need to put this thing back on NS
naaa, leave it on WNYP until spring- give those locos a workout in the snow.
It just came back to Altoona a few days ago
This aged like milk
Leads to see knitting pattern and diet
8520 is still imo the best looking rebuild!! Wish they never sold it but oh well.

Waste of $

As of 2021, NS 8520 is now KLWX 8520 (Knoxville Locomotive Works)
Great catch with NS 8520!
only if NS used this line daily from Harrisburg from to Buffalo.
Lol, right?
@NEO your PFP scares me.
Beautiful video, I subbed and congrats you are at 100 subs now 👍
Nice Job! I had it today in Northumberland PA
I think you have the first clip of its horn
2nd Gen K5LA
@@epiccsx they don’t have Generations xd

I like that scheme. Seeing it coming down the line it reminds me of one of the Santa Fe bonnets.
Woah! You are like to first person to see the loco operate! Nice catch! Kudos to you!
Like that new NS GE 8520. Were they making any more of those soon?
I think ns is making an 8521, but I could be wrong about that.
Nope, it’s on the market now as a failed rebuild
@@mec3403 "Cool😎, at least NS didn't waste anymore locomotives on that particular program."
2:00 listen to the wheel slip system and sand do their job with just a single unit operating
Neat catch! Great sound!
Is 8520 the only AC44C6F locomotive?
Knuckles bonnet
I love to paint skiing on that and it's got a very nice sounding k5la
Great catch!! I love Keating, and wish there was more traffic on that old line!
Anybody know what the tests revealed?
Some people have said That 8520's performance wasn't as good as expected, they had a lot of issues with wheel slip and stuff like that...
awesome video 8520 looks pretty
Wow, red colored Norfolk Southern train! Neat!
Rip all 3 of those locos
At least 8520 didn’t suffer the same fate as the C40-8.5s.
8501 used to be conrail
Looks great in red and gray
The video before it was sadly sold
Great video! I was wondering if I could use this for a video I’m making about the NS rebuilds. I will credit you
It looks like the red cousin of the 4001 or 4000 the ac44c6m.
now the ns 8520 is not a ac4460f now is a bb36-7
i mean ac44c6cf
Great catch !!!
Been sold to YVRR sadly.
Nice k5la
Nice

Yeah boi!
Those Dash-8.5s are so darn ugly.
Adding more dead weight in a rain storm....brilliant idea...👎
