i wanted to get this cute aloha shirt but my mum wouldn’t let me get it because i looked like a boy.
now i’m even more pissed but strangely euphoric to know that i can look masculine
I wish I could look masculine😥
wait i never thought about it like that, i can look masculine!! :D
Same but I straight up wanted to shop in the men’s section 🌚🌝
My mom doesn't let me buy anything which even had a wiff of masculinity on it saying that guys will make fun of me if I wear it 😔... It's sad because wearing fem clothes give me lot of dysphoria and I feel extremely uncomfortable... like I ain't even allowed to wear a T-shirt if it's from the boys section/looks like it is from the boys section 😢
@@artzilla7453i’m so sorry :’( has anything changed in the last two years?
as a non-binary Hawaiian person i appreciate u doing ur research and recognizing that calling it a “Hawaiian shirt” can be harmful to our culture + community! aaaahh thank you for giving us these wonderful tips n always being so kind n respectful
wait, its harmful?
@@w4v2 it can be! our culture is often commercialized and branded in a "tourist-y" sense to sell to foreigners, and the rich and sacred parts of our culture are buried beneath what people "think" is Hawaiian culture (pineapples, colorful print shirts, plastic leis) when that's just not true. The Hawaiian community and Hawaii's land and people actually suffer from tourism, despite it playing an immense role economically! I hope this makes sense LOL.
@@gracemoanimai1491 I didn't know this :0 Thanks for explaining that! (You weren't explaining it to me but it helped nonetheless)
:0 I didn’t know this. Thanks for educating people
@@gracemoanimai1491 thank you so much for educating me !
Idk why but “you can be the masculine/feminine element” just hit me really hard. Like. Woah. I needed to hear that. Thanks.
Same! It’s comforting to think that my body isn’t inherently feminine despite being afab :,)
Dude I'm literally starting school tomorrow and I was abt to get online to go clothing shopping but I was so lost I NEED THIS THANK YOU IRIS PERFECT TIMING

Try and thrift/ second hand shop clothes if you can. It’s more eco friendly and also cheaper🤍
@@Karolina-dr8du Ah tyyyy I'll do that
it feels like they’re our big sibling helping us and i live for that comfy feeling
Like da pfp
I feel like femininity, masculinity and androgeny is akin to sweet, salty and umami. Umami isn't necessarily sweet or salty, its a completely different taste and can play with other flavors/tastes interchangeably to make amazing and delicious variety of food, everyone will have different preferences due to how your tastebuds perceives it as well as what food you grew up with and are used too, etc... Regardless all food can be made delicious by the right chef 😩
Yesss,, anyone else here is a woman but loves to dress androgynous too?
meeeee :))))))
me :)
Me :D!!
Yup
i’m a demigirl but yes i love dressing androgynous. idk why but it kinda makes me feel powerful lmfao
As a tomboy girl who is uncomfortable wearing revealing clothes but wants to look genderless at the same time…I’m so here for this 😂😂
no but iris actually has good sponsers, like this jewellery is so cool and im about to buy some and the skirt company (i forgot the name) was so tempting. THANK YOU IRIS
happy to provide😌
Starts in 12 hours:
Me at 2 am 🍿this gonna be good 👁👄👁
I literally love these vids so much as a closeted nonbinary person
"Wear what you want as a celebration of yourself" I'm not androgynous or non-binary but I love the sentiment. Its good for everyone to feel they can experiment with their style
⚠ cute hair alert! cute hair alert! ⚠
weeee 🥰
The androgyny of skirts makes me so happy! Skater skirts are so cute and so androgynous I need to be more confident wearing them to school but I'm not quite there yet lol
I know this comment is a little old now so I hope you're comfortable with it, but if not something that helped me a lot is wearing shorts underneath!
The artist whose print is on the 'If you must smoke, smoke salmon" shirt is Ray Troll. He's an artist based in southeast Alaska that has a fantastic body of work- you can find some shirts on ebay.
i am obsessed with ray troll i can't stop buying fish shirts for my pescatarian bf
jewellery wise, something i dont see a lot of ppl wearing but i absolutely adore is wooden bead stuff! i always wear a wooden bead necklace and bracelet and i find they arent tied to any gender,, they are also just rlly funky n remind me of 90s to early 2000s :)
Like damon albarns and graham coxons from the 90s?? (Just assuming u know who they are from ur pfp lol)
Also where did u get urs cos I think they look rlly cool too
yes!! I LIVE off of wooden bead necklaces they make me feel real cool and almost like surfer-y. literally the best thing ever
@@raisin4521 OMG I WAS REFERENCING DAMON AND GRAHAM SINCE IM A HUGE BLUR FAN AND FHATS WHERE I GOT MY INSPO :D i found mine in charity shops (thrift stores if youre in the US) but i also found some randomly in my parents junk draw in my kitchen lmao
@@sbwred agreed i literally feel bare without mine
Unfortunately it's just way harder to look/dress in an androgynous way (at leats in my opinion/experience) when one has a (in terms of sex) female body and is not super thin but has, like boobs and hips to some extend. I just can't seem to find any pants that fit the way I want them to and thats just the beginning of the problem. If someone has any tips I would love to hear them.
honestly same. as a short person whos body isn't stick thin I've kind of resorted to viewing myself as masculine whenever I'm wearing femme clothes and vice versa, mostly I decided I can't fully hide my shape so instead I just wear heeled shoes and either mix and match w a baggy top and skinny pants, baggy pants and skinny top. but honestly I find that a straight leg, bootcut and Bermuda style for jeans/pants work best for curvier people! but all in all I think it'll all also depend on how you style it
sport bra + oversized men shirt tucked in to create "belly sash" big enough to hide anything breast down worked quite good for me (D/E cup). But I actually hate sport bra tbh and I probably sew regency short stays instead if I find right fabric...
Unfortunately I think a lot of ppl understand androgyny to be limited to skinny white afab ppl when literally anyone should be able to look androgynous .
Not necessarily true. As someone born female with DD cup and a big butt and hips, I’m a curvy individual. But I have people mistake me for a man and call me sir.
finally a reference to have before I go back to school shopping and have a break down on what I'll actually wear or not
Jade Fox's channel madeyoulooks is GOLD for any curvy afab person. I feel like my boobs "ruin" a lot of potential outfits, but she gives solid advice to work around them.
Basically Jade's great and you're missing out if you're not following her !! Especially if you're afab and androgynous/masculine.
Literally just came out to my family about being nonbinary, thank you for inspiring me to be me. And how to look cute as heck as a nb 👀
ouu congrats on coming out!! so happy for you
You spoke about recategorizing gendered stuff, and i remember doing this with nail polish and now i can use it without feeling too fem!
Omg I needed this so much, i recently started experimenting with she/they pronouns and even though I still look feminine and have a feminine style I really want to get some more gender neutral pieces in my style while still keeping it feeling like me
same :D
Me2
i cuff every single pair of pants just becuase im litterally 4'11 so if i dont i look like im drowning
lolololol
I’m gender fluid and I have always loved the androgynous style but never tried it out. Excite to try it this year
Same! But I'm also demi girl ✨ I'm gonna wear something androgynous to a fancy party
just realized i'm an androgynous god without even knowing it *bites lip*
i'm a cis girl, but i LOVE the androgynous style. i think it's super unique, looks interesting and multidimensional. thank you for this video, it was very helpful
Incorporate it, if you like it embrace the style but be confident in your preferences. Owning both will make you stand out as a person
your voice is so soothing I love it😩 you're amazing!!
ily 🥺
iris is gonna drop more andro outfit ideas into my mind that my mom wont buy for me. Thanks, luck 🙃
i love and mostly wear feminine clothes but i love this video especially when you say just wear what you want and don't let the aesthetics stop you which is so true!
I love your advice in these androgyny videos 💖💖💖
i really need to change my view of androgynous clothing. i look so naturally "feminine" that im afraid any traditionally feminine clothing at all will make me "not nonbinary enough" which is dumb and also 100% stereotypically masculine clothing looks ugly as hell so i gotta work on that and erase gendered clothing so i can truly express myself
Commenting because why not?
replying to your comment because why not?
lol
i'm also replying because why not!
"Wear what you want in celabration of yourself" i love it!🤎
Every fit video you've released is just so 👌✨ and this one definitely followed suit! Honestly, a good majority of your points are staple parts of how I dress already (minus the doc martens bc babey, shoes b expensive!)
THANK YOU and hello live chat, everyone was lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed the premiere. GOOD VIDEO, GOOD STYLE TIPS, AND FANTASTIC DAY TO YOU BEAUTIFUL HUMANS 💛
Im starting college next week as an openly nonbinary person and I really need to fix my wardrobe so this is very helpful. Thanku ♥️
“So wear what you want, as a celebration of yourself.” Had to be said. Thanks Iris <3
this genuinely helped me sm i was so lost, i want new clothes 4 school but like ,,, had no idea how to go about it
already rewatching from like 4 hours later hehe. i adore the way you talk about androgyny and gender and fashion, it’s so elegant! thank you for your wonderful content
When it comes to shoes my absolute favorites are chelsea boots with a little bit of a high heel. Even though you didn't mention them here I think that they really fit in with the whole androgynous look. Not even gonna lie, I bought a pair only because I see BTS Jhope and Jimin wear them quite often and I think that they look divine on literally everyone.
Cant wait! Love the new hair on you!
That purple sweater looks so comfy! I also love how it drapes on you.
Your fashion videos are so inspiring and exciting for me ✨
im going to in person uni in two weeks so thank you for the fashion inspo!! after years of wearing a school uniform i’m so happy i get to experiment with fashion :)
I haven't worn any of my 'nicer' clothes in a year so I can't wait to experiment with the styles in this vid once rona let's up!
This brought me a lot of joy ☺️ I squealed at your sweaters, they're gorgeous! I love the freedom and happiness coming from androgynous fashion
THIS WAS SO HELPFUL!!! im ngl most of the androgynous fashion videos ive found r either afab or amab femme and this is the first amazing proper androg fashion thing ive found thank you so much!!

I just love your energy.
Omg I’ve been trying to find someone who has the same style as me for sooo long ! I find that youtubers usually have a more feminine or masculine style, but you inspire me so much to be my androgynous self, so thank you 🥲😊
I adore your energy ❤️
This was a great video, also, I love your hair.

Hi Iris! This video was so helpful, thank you! I'm new to exploring my queer identity (in my first queer relationship) and now exploring gender a lot more and feeling really comfy + like myself in more androgynous clothes.I just subscribed and am excited to follow along! OH MY GOD I WAS ON A TRIP FOR A WEEK AND NOW YOU'RE AT 23.4K WHAT THE HELL

thank you so much for this video!
Thank you, Iris!!
Hi! Lucas speaking :)
I'm a trans boy and i want to change my clothing style to a much more androgynous one because i can't really change it to a really masculine one like i want to-
My mom doesn't want to buy me clothes from the boy's area in clothing shops becaise she says ''it looks like you're wearing a bag''.
She's the only one to tell me that lol- even when i come to school with one of the oversized boy's t-shirts my dad bought for me, no one says i look bad, most of my friends loves it! Dunno why my mom doesn't really accept that i want a masculine style but whatever 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the advice! I work at a thrift store so I’m about to buy myself some clothes I feel more comfortable in :)
I know this video came out quite awhile ago, but I wanted to say that it’s been really helpful coming up with wardrobe for a nonbinary (gnc??) character I’m designing. They’re a cosmic entity, so I don’t think the concept of gender we mere mortals have would fit them, but I couldn’t think of how to style them, so thank you for this!
Yesss thanks for this! I use all pronouns and go from a super fem style to a super masc one and everything in-between so this was v helpful 💖
Yesterday I asked where the bathroom was and I got directions to the boys restroom and the girls restroom so I guess I’m pretty androgynous myself 😎
I recommend skirts on top of pants, short skirts, longs skirts, on top of jeans or whatever pants... it feels nice and looks nice, and it's a fun way to help a plain outfit look more interesting and creative! There are so many different possibilities and combinations you can try, it's great!
6:20 "your personal choice" bold of you assume that I have a choice. I'm short, so cuff pants is a must😩✋🏻
I have this longer boxier blazer with slight shoulder pads that I really love (think 80s inspo), maybe that might be something to look out for and try on!
I'm a fellow enby as well
😇😇
i actually dont know what this style was called and have been wearing it for a while and its funny how people think im a tomboy because of it haha, but im actually really feminine
you can try using rubbing alcohol (with a small brush) on the scratch on your guitar, it won't go away but it may get less visible (because you're kind of smoothing out the polish if that makes sense😅)
Literally wearing the same overalls while watching this video lmao
hehe
thanks for this
I've noticed that a few of the fits I was uncomfortable with before figuring out I was NB, I'm more able to wear now. Because me wearing a long skirt doesn't have to be ""traditionally feminine"", it can evoke thoughts of anchient travelers, just by tilting the hat back enough.
Also the combo of a black crop-top, shorts and a loose, open button-down/blouse. It's airy, it's light. It shows a little skin while still obscuring the shape of the chest, while not looking like I'm trying to do that. A+. Even better in my case, because my bathing suit is "shorts and a crop top", so when at the beach I can just wear that, take off my overshirt and jump in. No muss no fuss.
omg yes imma watch this and look swag in school (even tho im at my third day tmrw hehe)
yooooooooooo
Nice pfp
