I used a 210 all winter for hiking and backpacking here in Norway this year. Very reliable stove if you've done due maintenance. The Optimus 111 is often hailed as bombproof, but the 210 has less parts and is in my opinion more reliable.

Hi Ben from New Zealand. Your previous video on starting a burner saved me from more embarrassment with 1 foot yellow flames. I am now confident,even had one lite up to blue with pressure in tank from valve not tightly closed. Those caps are a mystery but trial and error

I have looked on line but no success so far, in fact all the Primus stoves I have seen do not have this little attachment. It is a No5 Primus made in Sweden. Many thanks 💖🐝x
I prefer the Roarer burner, you don't forget its still alight. Also do not forget, they self pressurize if you after finished with them and close the pressure key, because you may return to find a little puddle of paraffin. So store them in a Tin.

The kettle comes in a variety of colours. I already had one, but on track days I also borrow another and at £3 I thought... why not buy another? I have many more similar stoves including a petrol one. Should I do a how to start one of those?

Great video Ben, thank you. I have both of the stoves you show here, but the bigger one has developed a fault with the pump - it no longer pushes in, there seems to be a lot of resistance. Any ideas what can cause this and how to remedy it? Thanks
That would imply the cup washer has partially reversed itself making it bigger. There are several places to buy them, if you can't find one I can look. Unscrew the pump cap and see if it comes out, and.or drip a little 3 in one down there. Thanks Benedict, I have just been playing with the exact same stove as the one you described as a silent burner which I purchased at a car boot for £13, in excellent contition. Like you I have just bought 4lts of paraffin for £8 even though I have a tank with 1500ltrs of kerosene in it! The issue I have is that the flame does not burn nice and blue like yours but tall and yellow. I will proceed to clean everything I can but any suggestions as to the cause would be much appreciated.
If the jet reclogs repeatedly, you can take the burner/('generator') off and soak it in a citric acid solution and then rinse some of the internal dirt out with water and then dry and light. The jet itself can be removed but you need a special tool. I bought one from a mail-order company called "The Base Camp" which worked well and was inexpensive.
Have you ever used diesel in your stove? Some of The old army ones (no.12 field stove) run on them and very similar mechanics. What fules have u tried? Top man! Cheers!

If you are in a rural area you may find petrol stations that sell red diesel. they may have some kerosene on pump. You can also buy paraffin from DIY type or garden centre type places as it is used to heat green houses though sold as paraffin it's normally more expensive. Please like and share, that really helps. FFS anyone don't buy Diesel. Diesel is 35 second heating oil kerosene is 28 second. It might come to B&Q being your first purchase but do you know that still uses heating oil? Unless they are a farmer and use 35 second oil which they use in the tractors as well they will use 28 second oil. That can work out to between £0.50 to £1.00 per litre.
@@COIcultist I got a 8 wick stove, diesel works ok in that thing, goes for around 6 to 8hrs, got some jet fuel , tried that in the 8 wick, it gets a bit hot, only use if nothing else to hand,
Kerosene is less refined than Paraffin (Esso Blue) for stoves and lamps. Fine if you are outdoors, but if you use a Primus Stove or Oil Lamp in doors it will stink like hell.

All the older chaps in my model engineering club remember paraffin a being much more like kerosene is now. Also I have acquired some old Esso blue. It is far more like Kerosene than the paraffin you can buy in a DIY shop. Again, I only test them indoors, I don't actually use them inside so I have not had an issue. My real issue with the paraffin you can buy is the price though.
@@redfire20003 with my Primus no.210 I only smell kerosene when first lighting and unignition from the unburnt fumes or if the stoves a bit clogged or not hot enough yet to burn cleanly, which havn't found it a problem but I am curious if possible to refine kerosene without much speciality.

The cap needs to be closed with a closed valve until you want to turn it off. You may have issues with the cap washer. Spares are available on line.
Brilliant. I have the silent one bought from ebay, but hadn't a clue how to use it. Much happier now you've shown how it works.

Give the jet a clean. The flame should be blue.

I sold two of the no.5s Sweden made recently on eBay for 50 quid.
