If pimax super actually comes out, then I’m getting it.
Generally, I think this is a good move by Pimax (not so sure about the Micro OLED and swapping - I bet it will end up being as popular as the 42ppd swappable lenses). Regarding the FOV: Pimax claimed the Crystal would have 125deg horizontal FOV, but gave us 103deg. So when they write that the Crystal Super will have 130deg horizontal FOV, expect no more than 110deg, which should be about the same as the Valve Index. Also, we don't know if the larger aspheric lenses will be as good as he current Crystal lenses, or if they will have more typical aspheric distortions at the edges.
I find the comparison between these head sets and the Apple vision Pro pretty redundant. They are targeting different audiences and completely different uses.
All the buzzwords remind me of how they marketed the Pimax Portal lol
Whoever told pimax various things is a collaborative effort and has been since 2017 at least.
I wrote an entire thread on the pimax forums about exchangeable lenses, variable field of view, for increased pixels per degree, back in 2017 and now it's a central feature in the new super variant.
50 PPD or 57 with exchangeable lenses puts the super in the theater for your face category of an hmz T1 or a Rokid Max, but for an immersive VR standard field of view instead of the 45° you get in those.
I have been waiting for a headset with these specs since 2011 at the earliest and 2017 when I actually floated the idea to them of the exchangeable lens and variable fov idea.
I did not expect Robin and the team to go absolutely ham and make the entire display and Optical chain interchangeable, but that is welcome also.
And having a base Crystal Light Edition that gives mere mortals 35 PPD it's pretty freaking sweet for $699
now I wish somnium space did the same with somnium vr1, cheaper version with just good optics, inside out tracking and good screens, would be so much easier to buy in EU
💥💣
Hope for "sim" version of the light one. (no controllers just the headset for extra price reduction) but tempted to replace my index.. especially once that wireless mod comes out . I have the Nofio wireless for the Index, and though it has promisse, it didn't deliver what I expected (too noisy and can't get clear/non-compressed image)
The wireless adapter only works with the original Crystal.
Honestly, I think the 60hz wireless module is by far the coolest part. I'm still waiting for a proper wireless PCVR headset to come out (I guess the Vive Pro/ elite was the only one?). I really wanted lighthouse tracking too, but I'm getting close to saying inside out is good enough.
The light seems like a great upgrade for Index owners. I'm bumed out it doesn't offer wireless though. I think that should be a basic feature at this point.
🤔 that is interesting.
Why not ALSO a Crystal Super Light? ... All the Crystal Light hardware with the Crystal Super display/optics specs and no standalone, no battery, no fans, no XR cpu/gpu, etc. So, a REAL HIGH END PC VR ONLY Headset.
The vision pro has a completely different target audience. Comparing any pcvr headset to it is an insult to that pcvr headset because the vision pro isn't meant to be a good pcvr headset.
Anyways, imagine working at pimax on the things required for standalone only for most of the users to not even want that lmao
Insta-buy. I ordered the light to hold me over until the Micro OLED one is available.
I was thinking about the same, but I already ordered Bigscreen Beyond, you think it would be worth it to cancel order and get Light with Local Dimming and then sell it and get Super?
@@eternaltomsa8573 this is exactly what I did. I ordered the BSB because the crystal would have costed about $1700 and the beyond was only $1150. But now I cancelled my beyond and can sell my base stations and index controllers for $300 and get the crystal light for $699. I didn't get local dimming because I plan on upgrading sometime next year when the super is available.
The Pimax Crystal Super has significantly more pixels than the Apple Vision Pro.
(Total Megapixels):
Pimax Crystal Light: 29.5
Apple Vision Pro: 23.5
Honestly unpopular opinion I know but I wish the super had a wireless mode or a wireless version and a corded version because I'll be coming from a wireless headset a meta quest 3
Does the Super have eye tracking?
Yes
They listen to everyone lol
less attractive for social VR without eyetracking
Need more PC horsepower too I would imagine.
That's why they have one that has eye tracking
HOW? This Pimax Crystal Super? They cant even get the large FOV lenses for the Pre-ordered Pimax Crystals. I am getting so pissed about this. Its been NINE MONTHS that I have owned the Crstal and no LARGE FOV LENSES....PATHETIC!
The team working on the Super is not the one working on fixing the wide lens. The wide lens wasn't working. I would rather they got it working for then rush out crap.
The lenses and screens of the Crystal Super are larger than the original Crystal.
loll watching movies with a giant pimax strapped to your face, sounds horrible, you can't even lean back with that strap, it's a completely different product than AVP and Pixmax is a pretty trash company
Exactly! This is why few companies can compete with Apple 1 on 1. It’s NEVER about specs! Apple has great hardware, but where they excel at is the combination of software and UI being the superior user experience. Most companies offer a gaming device or inferior user experience at a cheaper price and it’s good enough for many.
@sharonb.9128 apple vision pro's battery will run out before you can even finish a modern day movie though tbf.
@@beanos2287 who cares? It’s mainly a stationary use device, easy to transfer between locations, moving from one room to another or home/office and easy to pack for travel. It’s not intended for extended outdoor or any activity that requires being unplugged for more than 2 1/2 hours.
no wireless compatibility on a 2000 dollar headset in 2024 feels bad man :\
its $700. the point is display port. quest 3 is great for wireless
@@legendp2011 ? I was referring to the super which is 2000 dollars
@@ataconazi the 12kx? My guess is 12k is just too high resolution to send wirelessly at any sort of decent bitrate
@@legendp2011 I mean did you even see the announcement? They announced "pimax crystal light" for ~700 and "pimax crystal super" for ~2000
If you need Wireless buy a Crystal. That will support 90Hz Wireless at full resolution via the optional 60G Airlink module.
The Crystal Super doesn't support wireless as it's not technically possible to do so as the Crystal Super has 3x the resolution of the Quest 3, so far too high bandwidth for any current wireless technology.
it is foolish to compare this to a vision pro...
you are right, it'd be better, 4k per eye and can actually connect to a pc and use controlers.
@@alkeryn1700 pimax is 2880x2880 per eye. Apple is 3660x3200 per eye.
too bad no eye tracking , we really need it for performance .
That's why there is a regular Crystal. If you need DFR then get the regular. If you don't then save a lot of money and get the Light.
Crystal Super has eye tracking.
