BEST GIRL PFLE FINALLY GETTING HER ANIMATED DEBUT LETS GOOO YOUR VIDEO WAS SO WELL TIMED THO XD lets hope more people see it with the announcement and realize the good parts of the series
@@Dani_2002 It hasn't come out yet but it was just announced over the weekend! It was revealed at the end of a play they did about Cranberry's backstory! Check anime news network or other anime news sites for details ^u^
One thing I like to point out is that, like in mahoiku, it's not a monster that comes out of another dimension and attacks the city for the magical girls to save. On the contrary, the monsters themselves are the magical girls, as I see how much Asari puts into her words how corrupt the Magic Kingdom is. So that's why i love mahoiku so much
This is one of the biggest aspects that makes the series unique and one of my favorites, because it informs everything about the conflicts and the world. There's no external monsters, aliens or the like, let alone ones who's purpose is to cast suffering upon people. Instead, like in our world, its a messy collection of individuals, groups, systems and societies, each with their own conflicting interests and power dynamics. Deaths in the series are a consequence of these interpersonal conflicts, and often serve to critique the corrupt systems that would have people fight each other like this. Its entirely possible for a magical girl in this world to face no life-threatening scenarios, and many never do. Our world doesn't have a monster of the week, the monsters we have to grapple with are ourselves and each other.
@@StarryMirai exactly! because it is only necessary to take the point of the person's nature that it will transform. taking the example of Weddin and Grimheart; Weddin: a totally inexperienced beginner, but who had love, had love in what she thought and defended about the magical girls, even in the end breaking her face, she still sacrificed herself without even thinking twice Grimheart: What did she do besides being a slut? she didn't care what it was someone asking for pity, she wouldn't think twice to throw a shufflin in a fire this is totally interesting to think how a sovereign watching an entire empire grow would not help even a child who lost her mother
@@StarryMiraiYou basically literally just literally word for word entirely described and summarized Madoka Magica, Kyubey is a alien, but, he doesn't cast suffering upon people. You, yourself, Magical Girls, themselves, and the world, itself, is what does and what causes everything and anything.
As a big fan of both Madoka and MGRP I really appreciate and agree with everything you said here. I think it sucks how often people dismiss MGRP and don't really engage with it beyond trying to compare it to Madoka in surface level ways, which does a disservice to both series. Madoka Magica is far, far more than a pink haired protagonist and antagonistic mascot, and even if someone doesn't like MGRP, it would be so much better to look at it in its own terms than get bogged down on the assumption its something its not. As a fan I have all sorts of criticisms of the anime and the first novel, but it seems everyone online is talks about anything but what it actually is. I hope more people give the novels and the series a try, reading beyond the first should make it abundantly clear the stakes, world and theming are vastly different between the series, and that each brings their own merits to the magical girl genre. Like you mentioned, MGRP's world and conflicts are a lot more grounded and like our own than Madoka's cosmic scale, and its pretty unique in the genre.
I'm so glad to see this take. This series really is so much more than "another dark magical girl show." Especially once you get past arc 1 in the novels. The way they set up this whole hierarchy and political structure of the magical girls and their world, the way we see large scale conflicts and plots in action. All the different moving parts and the connections between characters across different arcs. It honestly all feels super fresh and doesn't get enough credit, primarily because people dismiss it before actually giving it a proper chance. Heck, aside from arc 2, the other arcs aren't just simply another death game. They don't really recycle the same plot beats and something new and interesting is always brewing. It's such a ride with a lot of really great characters. Uluru is my favorite personally
Before watching the video I know I’m gonna love it, not only because is one of the few MGRP content in UA-cam, but also because it’s something I've been saying since 2016. It’s true that the concept of dark magical girl was popularized (but not started) by Madoka, and it’s also obvious that Snow White looks a bit like Madoka and Hardgore Alice resembles Homura as well, but besides that, there’s nothing more. I could find more similarities between Happy Tree Friends and Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku than with Madoka. Thank you so much for talking about my favorite light novel series. ❤
It makes me so happy to see this comment, you have no idea ❤❤❤ It’s so sad to see how often Magical Girl Raising Project is compared to Madoka in the sense of it “trying too hard to be dark”, and I hope going into this you’ll see a lot of your feelings echoed!!! Keep fighting for this series and maybe someday it’ll get the recognition it deserves!!
@@bweepy I hope someday it gets the Danganronpa treatment, really obscure until 2020 where everyone started playing it. Especially since many characters like Wedin, Lapis Lazuline or Filuru are easily fan favorites.
Have you ever heard of a magical girl show called soushin shoujo matoi it’s a really good anime. It’s funny sometimes but it’s also cool and it makes me so happy.
Saying that hadgore/houmra and Snow White/ modoka “obviously” look like each other is the biggest overstatement of the century their designs are so different it’s not even funny . Like wow a magical girl anime that has a pink haired protagonist and there’s a black/ dark purpled hair counterpart sooooooo revolutionary , welcome to like 70% of all magical girl shows . They aren’t even a close shade or hue , and they have completely different literally every thing else .
Amazing video! I really love both series. One aspect that I really love about MGRP is the idea of exploring the "ideal magical girl". So many characters have their idea of the 'ideal magical girl' developed. Any character that comes close to being the 'ideal magical girl' ends up having to take a dark turn or sacrifice themselves because of it.
It's so fun to see a different spin on the "dark magical girl genre." I understand as a person who also believes that Madoka is one of the greatest animes and just adores magia record and most of the obscure spin-offs that it's hard to be critical of MGRP without comparing the two. One thing I can say is that MGRP I feel does a better job at world building while Madoka loves to focus on their characters. All in all, a very unbiased and tasteful comparison.
I got so upset, when you said that "Snowhite wants to stick to that moral, that she saw since she was little, of the perfect magical girl" because i remembered how after LaPucelle's demise, she did the reasonable and felt awful. What upset me SO bad was people in the comments saying shit like "she's a pussy, she does no better than crying; she's better off dead :v" without taking in 1) her best friend ,who she connected with through the game, just died 2) he died thanks to a magic girl, that is, someone on the game 3) it's thanks to the game system he died 4) she's like ... 14 years old :| People are mad. It reminds of how people make fun of Fuu's breakdown in yuyuyu without taking in the same facts from above :////
I didn’t say she was bad for crying or sticking to how she felt about being a magical girl, so I’m not really sure how you got that impression? She was very upset at La Pucelle’s death, and after she saw how the other magical girls (specifically the ones doing immoral things like killing, stealing) she felt out of place and wanted to quit a lot because being a magical girl wasn’t what she thought it was going to be. I was happy to see that despite everything being against her, she still came through while staying true to herself!
Oh unless you were talking about other peoples videos saying bad things about Snow White! In which case I agree, Snow White was NOT a pussy for staying out of the action! She’s a very good character and I’m happy she is always trying to do what’s right ^u^
Snow White is interesting because despite being the protagonist she doesn't grow like a protagonist. Snow White and Ripple are like yin and yang, Ripple is Snow Whites foil and while most stories have the protagonist learn from their foil and find a middle ground MGRP is the opposite. While Snow White starts as a pacifist that relies on others she grows into a loner who doesn't trust others (barely trusting her adopted mascot) and is more than willing to fight. Ripple on the other hand grows more like a main character would, she starts as an untrusting loner who tends to run headfirst into fights, however in later novels she's been shown to not only be trusting and willing to work in a group but also give peaceful solutions the first opportunity before violence, like she used to, while at the same time maintainening her skills in combat and ability to operate solo. MGRP is the first story that I've come across that has the secondary protagonist go through the full character growth that most main characters go through while showing the main character give a knee-jerk reaction and not only learning and adapting but diving headfirst into the opposite direction of their former self in what would often transition that character into villain status. TLDR the weird result is that the main character grows into just as flawed as a character as the sub protagonist was while the sub protagonist grows into what the main character should have been. Do we root for Snow White? Do we root for Ripple? Personally neither, I only root for best boy Fal.
Nice work on your first analysis video! I appreciate how you make a more nuanced comparison of Madoka Magica and Magical Girl Raising Project than the surface-level, "Madoka rip off bad" comparisons that are so common. I also appreciate how you explore the context behind why the first arc of MGRP might have certain shortcomings and how the series tries to address those in later installments, rather than just bashing the series. I don't agree with all of your points, but it's fine to have different perspectives on fiction. Overall, I like the video and I think you did a great job. By the way, your artwork looks awesome. :D
thank you so much for this video!! i personally really loved magical girl raising project when i first watched it, but have always been hesitant to recommend it to people, or when i did i felt i had to say "i know it's no madoka, but..." it makes me so happy to see someone give it the love and attention it deserves ^o^ i vaguely knew there were light novels, but i didn't realize how much more content there was!! now i really want to read them :O
I'M SO GLAD THIS CAME INTO MY RECOMMENDED i've been craving more mgrp analysis videos and i'm so glad you made this, because seeing people try to make 1:1 comparisons on madoka and mgrp honestly Hurts. Cuz its like. While there r similarities, there's a Much larger cast in mgrp and each character has their own motives and reasons as to why they are the way that they are if that makes sense (+ Literally everything u said but that'd just be me repeating you LOL) something else i see madoka get compared to a lot is magical girl site, which i honestly think i could probably write a whole rant essay on (Especially after i read the magical girl site manga and the apparent prologue to magical girl site from the same author) and they are literally not comparable at all besides some shared personality traits between characters and them being "Dark magical girl animes" 💀 part of me doesnt mind character comparisons and series comparisons in general, but the other part of me is like . THESE THINGS ARE NOT 1:1 COMPARISONS!!!!! THESE CHARACTERS R SO MUCH MORE THAN THEIR COMPARISON COUNTERPARTS PLEASE LOOK INTO THEM MORE!!!!!!! and im so so so glad you mentioned the hardgore alice/homura comparisons people like to make, bc like u mentioned, they are both Entirely different characters with different motives and backstories and literally the only thing comparable between the two is that they both care for the protag and both have darker, colder designs
i made this comment a lot longer than intended but i love magical girl media so so so much, especially ones that delve deeper into more real and "Darker" topics and seeing people talk about them makes my brain go crazy
As someone who loves Madoka Magica, MG Spec Ops, Assault Lily:Bouquet, and the other darker MG animes, I only watched MGRP a short month or two ago. I was NOT ready to love it so much. I instantly ran to find the LNs online, but put that off to finish other series partially read. Thank you for this essay discussing both of these shows, and other shadowy MG animes.
Right? It’s so amazing to see how they eventually get more trusting as they’re working through the horrible stuff going on around them (really love that scene where they’re running down the ruins and gripping each others hands)
Holy shit based. Uluru is definitely one of my favorites too, although I must admit I'm a sucker for Snow White and Clantail. Uluru's arc toward becoming one of Snow's closest friends is amazing as well.
Good morning! I'm here to deliver the news that the restart novels are getting an anime! no need for anyone else to comment about it in the comments section now that I'm here
Fun Fact: Asari Endo saw this video and he said: Finally Someone Made A Video Saying That, As A Reward, You’re All Getting A Second Season. Also, I’m obviously joking
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. The presentation and your voice were a treat! It means a lot as a longtime fan of both series, but as someone who actually prefers Mahoiku, to see a fair and educated discussion when talking about the two. A lot of the times when these "comparison" videos are made, I feel like they're already out to get Mahoiku from the get-go based on assumptions and minimal information of the extended materials. It's really frustrating for them to make judgements on Mahoiku as a whole when they haven't gotten the whole picture! I really loved it! Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, it was such a fun and insightful watch. I'd love to see more magical girl videos from you in the future. 💗
I like both series equally, i see it as madoka is fighting for those you love while mgrp as fighting to survive to stop a corrupt system a bring millions of girls justice. Madoka makes the sacrifice to help every whilst snowwhite fights to survive and be a true magical girl.
Sooo glad seeing lovely comments about this, I love Madoka and MGRP, and they're completely different things, glad they're adapting Restart after all, I think this series keeps getting better in the novels, the schemes, burocracy and corruption, the factions only looking for their own interest, I just love the world building. Hoping for more people to give a chance to this series. And also yes Nagisa is best girl
MGRP is a hybrid of the magical girl genre and the survival game genre, and I’d say it’s just as much based on series like Sword Art Online and Battle Royal as it is on Madoka. The fact that it starts with the girls actually having signed up for a MMO game where they play as magical girls and then are trapped into a death game as a result is a lot like SAO.
I like how someone is finally speaking about this. Now I might be wrong but the first MGRP book was released a year after Madoka and comparing them is just so wrong. Writing a book is a long process and it's imposible to copy an anime idea. I feel like it's a coincidence where people say that the show that came first is better and that the other one copied it. While MGRP could have taken some ideas it definitely didn't copy Madoka at all. Edit: Also can you make a video explaining the order the books are meant to be read. I watched the anime and read Restart and Episodes and I was confused if I should read Limited next.
Thank you so much, im glad you enjoyed the video!!! and you’ve got it right, Limited is the next arc in the series, it’s a two-parter like Restart! After that is JOKERS and then ACES!
Thank you for this video, as someone who loves both madoka magica and mgrp, I was always annoyed by those types of videos and comments and even wanted to make my own point on it, overall, your video is incredible and made me sub, so good job
For your first video, this was a wonderful analysis. I never knew how far the light novels went and you really convinced me to try to read the light novels again. I didn't quite vibe with the writing, but you've given me the motivation to try again. I'm glad you came out with this video to defend MGRP's honor!
GAH I am so happy to see this video. I’m someone who is a fan of both (like most of the comments I have seen.) Both of the anime are DARK magical girl anime, but stories are very different. I hope more people give MGRP a try! Same for those who haven’t seen MM.
Ik it's kinda besides the point but (I believe) snow white is said to have platinum blonde hair in the LNs so the comparison between the protag's hair is quite surface level, I don't really know much abt MM but MGRP is amazing, i love it so much 😁😁 I really enjoyed the video :)
I'm so happy someone finally made a good review about the series! MGRP was my first anime and it is my second favourite anime ( after Madoka Magica) This series introduced me to magical girls and made me love them! I love the plot and have read some of the manga of the creator. It's a shame people make not well-thought reviews that discourage people from watching the show.
Saludo desde España( Spain) !!! Thank you sooo much for uploading Ikusei MGRP content. In youtube, there is a lot of information about Madoka, but few people know about Ikusei
Rosen Maiden! Oh my gosh I haven’t heard the title in awhile and it’s been a long time favorite. I also love MGRP , and did not see much content for. Thank you!! And good job!
Madoka is less a deconstruction of the genre and more of a subversion. Actually, I would say Magipro is more of a deconstruction because it asks questions like, "Realistically, what would a magical girl even do?" and better defines how those systems that create magical girls would exist in the human world. I would also say Magipro is more similar to Watchmen than The Boys. It's less about magical girls being inherently bad, evil, or power-hungry and more about the good and bad in magical girls is as diverse as the good and bad in regular humans, and that there are secret political schemes that happen in these systems just as much as they do in the societal structures of humans. Like the sages each vying for power in their own way and killing or pushing aside anyone that gets in their way, while regular magical girls just try to make do.
@@XBlazezxXMadoka Magica is a deconstruction, do you just think Madoka Magica doesn't ask question like "realistically, what would a magical girl even do"..?? Because it literally actually does. Madoka Magica is the Watchmen of Magical Girls and MGRP is one of the many that came after to you know. Everything you said basically literally just described and summarized Madoka Magica literally word for word.
I hadn’t heard anything of MGRP other than negativity, so I wasn’t interested before, but this piqued my interest and I like the designs! I’ll be checking it out. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this! I really love mahoiku so watching this is a bit of fresh air compared to others videos ! great job ❤️❤️ Also I adore your art
Thank you so much for making this video!!! Both madoka magica and mgrp are series that I like a lot, and seeing the surface level comparisons all over the internet really broke my heart, since they didn't even give mgrp a chance. You mentioned not liking Magia Record and I have to agree with the anime being disappointing, however it is based on a mobile game that is personally my absolute favorite. The plot splits off from the anime significantly and the cast and consequences of their actions are explored in depth. Since you like the politics and worldbuilding of mgrp, then the event stories from the game and especially the second arc should be right up your alley, since it is very much a magical girl vs magical girl story with magical girl politics playing a massive role. I remember someone describing the difference between madoka magica and magia record as: madoka magica is about despairing or accepting the situation the girls are forced into and having to break free of the limits to change the end. Magia record is magical girls seeing the situation they're in, and taking actions to create a different result, looking at what each magical girl can do herself and using that to build a solution. The anime is in a weird spot where its a failed version of the doppel system and its consequences, but in the game it doesn't even make sense timeline wise. The anime can techincally fall into the madoka magica timeline and canon, the game story is in a parallel universe that Goddess Madoka cannot interfere with, something that gets explored in events in the game. As someone who absolutely adores the game and personally likes the story more than the original madoka magica anime because it really gives its characters a chance to shine, I feel like the game story should get to be appreciated as well, and I really hope you choose to check it out. It feels almost similar to how the mgrp anime doesn't represent the light novel series, and the magireco anime is like a skimmed surface level twisting of the magireco game. Regardless, your video was an absolute breath of fresh air amongst the echo chamber it feels the anime review community has become, and I will definitely be looking forward to any other topics you might choose to cover!
I'm taken aback by how kind this comment is!! I know when the mobile game was still available in the US, I enjoyed playing it! It sucks to not have it available, and I did notice that the anime for Magia Record was pretty different compared to the plot of the game. I'll have to see if I can do a little more research on it going forward!
First of all, great video! I think that Ikusei Keikaku has another type of imagination from Madoka Magica, except for Fav, who I would describe as a nihilistic version of Kyubey (an alien being that manipulates and destroys humans for its alien motivation, which is cosmic ecological energetics in the case of Kyubey while it is entertainment in the case of Fav - see the nihilistic part?). I believe that Snow White is not at all like Madoka, since she is in love with the mahou shoujo (this is her core), while Madoka loves her friends, her family and ultimately all human beings (those are her core). Furthermore, Snow White is a different character in the ending of the anime (more optimistic and whole-heartedly devoted to attain her ideal of what a mahou shoujo is) and the ending of the first light novel (more pessimistic, psychologically broken and edgy). Despite the fact that she ends up being a solitary superhero in both cases, the words and deaths of La Pucelle and Hardgore Alice influence her very differently and lead the conclusion of her thoughts and feelings to be almost the contrary (mostly bright in the anime and mostly somber in the first novel). That's how I see it, anyways.
Okay Im gonna say it, I was a silent hater of MGRP because I love Madoka Magica so so much and was unhappy with the clips I saw from the show and screenshots of the LN, and them paired with mean reviews didnt help. Its been a few years since I even thought about this topic tbh but the way you present and explain the things you enjoyed on MGRP made me reconsider my view on it. The magical girl genre has always been a medium for love, introspection, and community. MGRP definitely seems to uphold this as well with what you mention, and I think I’m going to add the show to my list. Thank you for the video! ❤ Also hard agree on your magia record take lmao, the anime was like just okay 😅
I will say, the anime itself isn't that great. But the books-- the books are freaking awesome. I've watched and read a lot of Magical Girl fiction and there's nothing quite like those light novels. They can so effortlessly pivot from crime mystery, to high octane shonen action, to political thriller, to a war series, to a spy thriller-- all as Magical Girls. And its always such a hype feeling when you realize a character you enjoyed from a previous book is going to be showing up again in a new. Seriously I recommend the books to everyone. Don't sleep on it!
MGRP is an all time favorite and Snow White is a favorite character. Nice to see someone else who understands that it's not a "rip off" of mm. Only thing I don't like is that Dark Cutie hasn't made many appearances. She's my second favorite in the series. (Next to Snow White)
thanks for making this video, MGRP/Mahouiku truly deserves more recognition honestly. it’s a great series with alot of plot twist. I haven’t read again past Queen arc., but the LN that i’ve read so far is indeed amazing. though i still mad about Queen arc ending lol also, Restart anime adaptation when :” ?
You made the video I wanted to make regarding this whole situation. I got around 4 books into the LNs and really enjoyed what I read, it's more of a Yakuza/political drama storyline with magical girls. I really love a lot of the characters like Puck-Puck,snow white and the red queen(forgot her name). The quality of the writing jumps a lot from the second arc onwards, people are missing out on this series by overly comparing it to madoka because ????????
I'll be surprised is the producers say Yuki Yuna wasn't heavily influenced by Madoka. Or Evangelion. They did make sure it has it's own identity, thought.
I feel like Mahoiku is not only a darker, more grim take on the mahou shoujo genre, but also a celebration of it as well. Yes, it deconstructs tropes and elements that plague most magical girl stories, but at the same time it embraces them and makes them so the characters themselves find power and personal meaning within these childish girly things like the power of love, cute costumes and silly names, as they fight for survival. These elements aren't just there to shock you to see them being corrupted, they're there to inspire you and say "hey, fighting in a pink dress and giving names to your attacks is actually cool as hell". I really wish for this series to pick up steam with more anime adaptations and become more popular, cuz it deserves to be appreciated and respected.
Glad this came through my recommendations, because I really enjoy MGRP and get tired of it being dismissed by people who blew it off after watching the anime, which is basically the adaptation of the foundation on which the true narrative of the series (the corruption of the Magical Kingdom & those that exploit it) is built in the books. Even people who create their own Western-style "dark magical girl" works that have covered MGRP in venues such as podcasts stick solely to the anime & blow it off wholesale as a "copy", while they rip off Madoka VERY obviously and do so with weaker character work and/or unfortunate undertones. (Yes, this is something specific; no, I'm not giving specifics.)
High Spoilers I would compare MahoIku with the Gundam series FAR MORE than Madoka Magica, especially when I compare Zeta's Titans or ZZ's Neo Zeon to the Magical Kingdom, when the higher factions of the groups mentioned are trying to eliminate each other as much as possible to the point that they would artificially make creatures and alter creatures to make an army, it surprises me how the Puru clones and the Shufflin IIs are similar in many ways, also with how Titans created Four and Rosamine then there's Armor Arlie and Drill Dory. And that's just scratching the surface, the Magical Kingdom would even go so far as to nuke an entire occupied city just because their precious Magical Girl died, who was being monitored and been attached with a sensor whether she's still alive or not, which reminded me of how the Federation put Amuro on house arrest after his heroic deeds in the One Year War because they were afraid of new types. I could even make a comparison of Rau le Cruset fromd Gundam SEED and Pythie Frederica in how they see everything as corrupt that they made themselves the villains to destroy everything, with the exception of Pythie actually wanting the protagonist to live as opposed to Rau would deny the existence of the protagonist. There's way more that I could compare ESPECIALLY with Pfle and her 8d chess brain making the Magical Kingdom fear her to the point that they put her under house arrest, but I haven't really delved it that much...
thank you. you are braver than any cop for this 🫡 i feel like this, for lack of a better word, stigma MGRP carries along with the ‘ugly’ art style ( it almost kept me from watching tbh ) is keeping us from getting more seasons which is super sad. i loved the first season and im very interested in seeing the rest adapted i would love to see more MGRP content from you in the future, especially individual character analysis. you seem to have a passionate understanding of the world and its characters and your insight would be great and apparently the algorithm is appreciating it. i hope you get more eyes on the series!
I'm genuinely glad the original media of MGRP is much better than what the anime presented. Great video btw! Really made a whole new prespective for me.
I feel like everyone should watch yuki yuna, it’s a very good magical girl show with a lot of sacfrices but I think it very good too. As well as the visual novels.
I have nothing to point out except I'm so glad there's other MGRP fans, the anime could've done much better imo, but the light novels/manga are worth the read.
THANK YOU I keep seeing people trashing on MGRP and comparing it to Madoka and it was really disheartening to see, as I actually really liked the anime and even bought the manga because of it. It definitely has flaws, and I'm not saying that people cant critique media for not being the best it could be, but they only trash on the surface level things and just pass it off as a Madoka clone without even giving it a chance
I LOVE UR OC AND THIS VIDEO IS TRUE I SEE PEOLE CONPARE THE TWO TO OFTEN THEY R BOTH ON OF MY FAVES BUT I HAVE TO HAND IT TO MAGICAL GIRL RAISING PROJECT BUT THEY R VERY CLOSE
I'd never watched magical girl raising project before or even really heard much about it, thanks for giving me a new mature magical girl show to check out :)
It’s perfectly understandable to say that Madoka is better than the MGRP anime. But to call it a ripoff because “mascot bad and protag doesn’t do anything” is just low IQ. Madoka fans must be the Evangelion fans (derogatory) of magical girl series.
I really like this video. It gives a great nuance into both MGRP and Madoka, even though imo I didn’t like the MGRP anime and I like Madoka. It’s a shame that the animation studio chose not to adapt the rest of the MGRP novels cuz it would stand above its reputation as a Madoka clone and carve its own reputation as its own thing. Thank You for the video and I’ll be subscribing to you for later content as nuanced as this
Waiting for the day that people stop comparing EVERY dark magical girl show to Madoka Magica. I’m a fan of both shows but it’s just kinda ridiculous imo. It’s like when people call Pretty Cure a rip-off of Sailor Moon
Snow White is precious and people gotta start putting respect on her name. I love this and Madoka Magica. In all honesty, Snow White and Madoka would probably get along well.
Kyube imo doesn't see what he does as bad. It is literally incapable of understanding human emotion just like the girls are incapable of fully understanding his ultimate goal. I agree I don't think he was malicious or ever really LIED to the girls except for maybe that time he told the one that it MAY be possible to bring blue hairs soul back but he even says it has never ever happened before. He can't understand human concepts such as love and friendship this he acts according to what he does understand. At least that's partially my take. A decade later and we're still discussing this anime. It's great when an anime can do that. Most get quickly forgotten after their seasonal debut with a small core group of fans holding the torch for that show.
hey, i was mentioned! god, that video is almost 5 years old now... as much as i criticized the anime for lacking depth that the light novels had with it's characters and plot (my comments section really showed me that, especially with snow white), i had mentioned (albeit at the very end and very lightly) that i don't really agree with mgrp being a clone of madoka, but more so they have darker themes more present in its writing. mgrp has an interesting concept that i wished was developed more possibly in a season 2, because there was so much more with snow white and ripple's development that was not touched on. same with cranberry! god, especially cranberry. overall, thank you for the analysis! it was very well done, i look forward to whatever you make next c:
MGRP is a wonderfully unique and beautiful take on magical girls, particularly in the novels. They occasionally do things I'm not fond of (morally, like the sadly genre typical sexualisation of minors) but otherwise it's truly wonderful and the powers are so cool! It's sad a lot of anime fans literally only know Sailor Moon and Madoka, so every magical girl show ends up getting compared to them endlessly. Pretty tiring! Thank you for this awesome, refreshing video
I honestly feel like a speedrun of how to fix Madoka Magica in a direct way is just "I wish for Magical Girls,Incubators,And Witches To Never Have Existed." And boom the universe just erases most of history. Sure you sacrifice a shit load of girls whilst breaking the entire system but hey atleast no more bad witches and Kyubeys floating around the universe.
The problem with that wish is, there are in fact limits to a person's wish. A wish cannot exceed your karmic potential, or basically how powerful you can effect the universe. Which is why Kyuubey was so insistent on making Madoka a magical girl, and part of why Homura's time loops stacked onto Madoka's karmic potential. So I don't think such a powerful wish like erasing all of those things out of existence would be possible for anyone off the bat like that unless their karmic potential was stacked up enough like how Madoka got her karmic potential.
I'm reviewing MGRP now. In general, I like both Madoka and Mahoiku. By the way, I met the second one a little earlier. P. S. Sorry, my english is bad =/
Finally someone says it y-y, madoka is a deconstruction on the genre, ikusei keikaku is essentially just a political drama where we mostly see the consequences of the behind the scene manipulation that ends up in massacre(or in queens case outright war). God what i'd give for restart to have been animated instead, the first arc is nice but i feel restart giving more importance to cranberry would have hyped the series better as this mysterious figure who orchestrated death games, and snow white the girl who survived the final game and vowed to never let it happen again + the restart cast has pfle whose easily one of the best character in the series. Plus sets the tone for the series better since arc 1 has little to no mention from the magical kingdom other then that one scene from cranberry and the flashback that never explained much(least for anime only) while arc 2 and foward it's essentially always there.
people call everything a "madoka rip off" if its a dark magical girl anime, but don't even realize that you could argue that madoka is a "rip off" of Uta Kata and Alien Nine. The reality is it's just an author taking a similar concept and putting their own twist on it. Which I don't mind if its done well. Hell you could argue all these are just NGE "rip offs" so big lmao. People need to look at a show for its quality, not for its "originality" because the truth is half of what they watch isn't as original as they think. Many shows take several "liberties" or "homage" to what they like. It reminds me when people used to call everything a Gurren Lagann rip off when Gurren Lagann itself is a collage of references to other classic shows (like getter robo or captain harlock).
There's nothing wrong with taking inspiration from existing stories for your own stories. Two of my stories take inspiration from the Lyrical Nanoha series, but I make sure to add unique elements to them
Most of the powers are not very useful: - Sister Nana can make her ally stronger but not herself. If anyone who can control elements or has super speed fight her, she will loose! - La pucelle has ONLY one sword. If it broke, what can she do except running away or trying to punch her enemy? - Nemurin can visit people's dreams. She can't kill them in their dreams like Freddy kruger. If she was in a real fight, she will loose for sure! - Ruler can control ONE person with her staff plus she has to point her target and stand still while she gives orders. Sounds more complicated and annoying than helpful. - Snow white can heard people's thoughts ONLY if they are in danger. She can create shields or use something to protect herself. - Winterprison can create walls... not very effective if everyone else has super strenght or if another magical girl can control earth. - Hardgore alice can regenerate but it takes a long time to fully restore her entire body, she doesn't seams to have super strenght. Being a magical girl doesn't look fun in this universe ☹
This just in: Magical Girl Raising Project - restart is getting an animated project! I’m thinking this is gonna be an anime, so look forward to it!!!
BEST GIRL PFLE FINALLY GETTING HER ANIMATED DEBUT LETS GOOO
YOUR VIDEO WAS SO WELL TIMED THO XD lets hope more people see it with the announcement and realize the good parts of the series
Finally I’ll get to see how Ninomiya-kun and Akane's family looked like.
This is true????? When did you see it?
@@Dani_2002 It hasn't come out yet but it was just announced over the weekend! It was revealed at the end of a play they did about Cranberry's backstory! Check anime news network or other anime news sites for details ^u^
man, when i found out, my heart raced
@@StarryMirai exactly! because it is only necessary to take the point of the person's nature that it will transform. taking the example of Weddin and Grimheart;
Weddin: a totally inexperienced beginner, but who had love, had love in what she thought and defended about the magical girls, even in the end breaking her face, she still sacrificed herself without even thinking twice
Grimheart: What did she do besides being a slut? she didn't care what it was someone asking for pity, she wouldn't think twice to throw a shufflin in a fire
this is totally interesting to think how a sovereign watching an entire empire grow would not help even a child who lost her mother
Ok but like why the light novel covers are SO PRETTY, THE ARTSTYLE OML ITS STUNNING
Uluru is my favorite personally
yes ikr it’s so much more !! I honestly love it sm
@@otakutoongamer5616 of you watch soushin shoujo matoi before
Saying that hadgore/houmra and Snow White/ modoka “obviously” look like each other is the biggest overstatement of the century their designs are so different it’s not even funny .
The biggest example of this is probably Snow White.
14 years old
:|
People are mad.
@@bweepy it was literally in the anime page ;;;;_;;;;;
people are so disconnected
and yes, she is great for staying true to herself
😮 Fal is the cruelest fiction being EVER developed
@@UmiChan358 I think you're talking about Fav, who is extremely cruel, Fal is a different character.
thank you so much for this video!! i personally really loved magical girl raising project when i first watched it, but have always been hesitant to recommend it to people, or when i did i felt i had to say "i know it's no madoka, but..." it makes me so happy to see someone give it the love and attention it deserves ^o^
i vaguely knew there were light novels, but i didn't realize how much more content there was!! now i really want to read them :O
I'M SO GLAD THIS CAME INTO MY RECOMMENDED i've been craving more mgrp analysis videos and i'm so glad you made this, because seeing people try to make 1:1 comparisons on madoka and mgrp honestly Hurts. Cuz its like. While there r similarities, there's a Much larger cast in mgrp and each character has their own motives and reasons as to why they are the way that they are if that makes sense (+ Literally everything u said but that'd just be me repeating you LOL)
something else i see madoka get compared to a lot is magical girl site, which i honestly think i could probably write a whole rant essay on (Especially after i read the magical girl site manga and the apparent prologue to magical girl site from the same author) and they are literally not comparable at all besides some shared personality traits between characters and them being "Dark magical girl animes" 💀
part of me doesnt mind character comparisons and series comparisons in general, but the other part of me is like .
Knowing that Uluru is your favorite. The dynamic between Uluru and Mana in Queens is just so cute.

Okay thank you
Thank you for this video, as someone who loves both madoka magica and mgrp, I was always annoyed by those types of videos and comments and even wanted to make my own point on it, overall, your video is incredible and made me sub, so good job
For your first video, this was a wonderful analysis. I never knew how far the light novels went and you really convinced me to try to read the light novels again. I didn't quite vibe with the writing, but you've given me the motivation to try again. I'm glad you came out with this video to defend MGRP's honor!
I find both neat! And your little mascot-type character is ADORABLE!
GAH I am so happy to see this video. I’m someone who is a fan of both (like most of the comments I have seen.) Both of the anime are DARK magical girl anime, but stories are very different. I hope more people give MGRP a try! Same for those who haven’t seen MM.
Ahh yes a fellow Nagisa fan!! I've loved Nagisa from the second her design graced my screen ;o; for lack of a better word, she's so sweet :' )
Ik it's kinda besides the point but (I believe) snow white is said to have platinum blonde hair in the LNs so the comparison between the protag's hair is quite surface level, I don't really know much abt MM but MGRP is amazing, i love it so much 😁😁
I really enjoyed the video :)
WOW I didn’t expect someone talking about Magical Girl Raising Project in 2023!
Glad to see im not the only one absolutely in love with Magical Girl Raising Project
To put it simply Madoka Magica deconstructs the genre with cosmic horror tropes. MGRP is to magical girls what The Boys is to superheroes.
Can't argue with you on that one. MGRP does feel like the Magical Girl equivalent of The Boys.
@@charlotteshenkenberger345 Eh, it’s more like 90’s DC/Marvel Anti Heroes are to Heroes and Anti Heroes than the boys in general.
Everything you said basically literally just described and summarized Madoka Magica literally word for word.
i freaking love mgrp. Shout out for anime's opening and ending songs i still listen to them all the time theyre so good 💐
I hadn’t heard anything of MGRP other than negativity, so I wasn’t interested before, but this piqued my interest and I like the designs! I’ll be checking it out. Thank you!

Magical Girl Magical Destroyers is an Spring 2023 anime season that Inspires to Magical Girl Raising Project.
That's how I see it, anyways.
out of context, I LOVE UR ARTSTYLE!! AND PALLETE!!
Also hard agree on your magia record take lmao, the anime was like just okay 😅
I haven’t read again past Queen arc., but the LN that i’ve read so far is indeed amazing. though i still mad about Queen arc ending lol

I'll be surprised is the producers say Yuki Yuna wasn't heavily influenced by Madoka. Or Evangelion. They did make sure it has it's own identity, thought.
THANK YOU BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN WATCHING IT AND I AGREE THAT MAGICAL GIRL RAISING PROJECT IS NOT THE SAME!!!
High Spoilers
I would compare MahoIku with the Gundam series FAR MORE than Madoka Magica, especially when I compare Zeta's Titans or ZZ's Neo Zeon to the Magical Kingdom, when the higher factions of the groups mentioned are trying to eliminate each other as much as possible to the point that they would artificially make creatures and alter creatures to make an army, it surprises me how the Puru clones and the Shufflin IIs are similar in many ways, also with how Titans created Four and Rosamine then there's Armor Arlie and Drill Dory.
There's way more that I could compare ESPECIALLY with Pfle and her 8d chess brain making the Magical Kingdom fear her to the point that they put her under house arrest, but I haven't really delved it that much...
thank you. you are braver than any cop for this 🫡
i feel like this, for lack of a better word, stigma MGRP carries along with the ‘ugly’ art style ( it almost kept me from watching tbh ) is keeping us from getting more seasons which is super sad. i loved the first season and im very interested in seeing the rest adapted
i would love to see more MGRP content from you in the future, especially individual character analysis. you seem to have a passionate understanding of the world and its characters and your insight would be great and apparently the algorithm is appreciating it. i hope you get more eyes on the series!
Rlly good vid btw!! And pls post your Kyubey theory I’m rlly curious now 👀
I have nothing to point out except I'm so glad there's other MGRP fans, the anime could've done much better imo, but the light novels/manga are worth the read.
I want to read the novels, but they are very hard to get in Poland and super expensive (╥_╥)
It’s perfectly understandable to say that Madoka is better than the MGRP anime. But to call it a ripoff because “mascot bad and protag doesn’t do anything” is just low IQ. Madoka fans must be the Evangelion fans (derogatory) of magical girl series.
Your video is amazing I just found it on recommended tab!
Thank You for the video and I’ll be subscribing to you for later content as nuanced as this
Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha de Aru was the first maho shojo anime type i watched!
Waiting for the day that people stop comparing EVERY dark magical girl show to Madoka Magica. I’m a fan of both shows but it’s just kinda ridiculous imo. It’s like when people call Pretty Cure a rip-off of Sailor Moon
I definitely used to compare these shows bc of surface level similarities but Im definitely motivated to watch MGRP with a new perspective
Madoka magica has always been one of my favorite animes ever
I'm so happy that mgrp is finally on my fyp
OKAY FURTHER IN THE VID NOW AND OMG I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOURE SAYING 😭
I recently binged all of Madoka Magica and watched the Rebellion movie. It was a fun time
I love magical girl raising project
Cool video!! MGRP and Madoka Magica are very epic shows!
Mgrp was fire
hey, i was mentioned! god, that video is almost 5 years old now...
as much as i criticized the anime for lacking depth that the light novels had with it's characters and plot (my comments section really showed me that, especially with snow white), i had mentioned (albeit at the very end and very lightly) that i don't really agree with mgrp being a clone of madoka, but more so they have darker themes more present in its writing.
mgrp has an interesting concept that i wished was developed more possibly in a season 2, because there was so much more with snow white and ripple's development that was not touched on. same with cranberry! god, especially cranberry.
overall, thank you for the analysis! it was very well done, i look forward to whatever you make next c:
YEAHHHHH GO OFF QUEEN TALK YO SHIT
MGRP is a wonderfully unique and beautiful take on magical girls, particularly in the novels. They occasionally do things I'm not fond of (morally, like the sadly genre typical sexualisation of minors) but otherwise it's truly wonderful and the powers are so cool! It's sad a lot of anime fans literally only know Sailor Moon and Madoka, so every magical girl show ends up getting compared to them endlessly. Pretty tiring!
Thank you for this awesome, refreshing video
this video is a w for real madoka and mgrp fans
I was hesitant about watching mgrp because it seemed like a madoka clone but its nice to know that its not, i might consider it
PERIOD SAY IT LOUDER
Please watch Yuki Yuna is a Hero and read Magical Girl Apocalypse and then it's sequel, Magical Girl Sire
I'll have to definitely check it out sometime, I've heard good things about Yuki Yuna!
One has fanservice and one has even more fanservice
Read the full manga of magical girl raising project but I'm mad cuz I can't find the rest of the series.
I recommend reading the novels, they are very good and waaaaay ahead of the anime/manga
Why no season 2 of raising project tho
Thank you for the MGRP content
I loved the video-
I honestly feel like a speedrun of how to fix Madoka Magica in a direct way is just "I wish for Magical Girls,Incubators,And Witches To Never Have Existed." And boom the universe just erases most of history.
Sure you sacrifice a shit load of girls whilst breaking the entire system but hey atleast no more bad witches and Kyubeys floating around the universe.
A speedrun 😭
The problem with that wish is, there are in fact limits to a person's wish. A wish cannot exceed your karmic potential, or basically how powerful you can effect the universe. Which is why Kyuubey was so insistent on making Madoka a magical girl, and part of why Homura's time loops stacked onto Madoka's karmic potential. So I don't think such a powerful wish like erasing all of those things out of existence would be possible for anyone off the bat like that unless their karmic potential was stacked up enough like how Madoka got her karmic potential.
Good analysis. I always treated it like all the other superficial comparisons, just a lot of hot air.
i watches it years ago.. where do you think i should continue in the LN ?
If you want a short refresher, you can start with the first book, or if you want fresh stuff book 10 (peaceful days)!
@@bweepy terimakasih~
Two of my stories take inspiration from the Lyrical Nanoha series, but I make sure to add unique elements to them
@@Kyouma. Exactly
Where can I watch Magical Girl raising project?
I think they added it to crunchyroll
I love magical girl raising project because it’s original and a very interesting anime
Love this acount!
I am ur 800 follower
Remember me when your famous :D
I just realized magical girl raising project is hilariously similar to game of thrones
Pretty much, especially in later volumes of the novel
Most of the powers are not very useful:
- Sister Nana can make her ally stronger but not herself.
