Some of these are them using non-default skins so I think it'd be better next time to use a compilation with their default skins cuz it really changes the context a lot
Unfortunately, he did say these were files sent directly from Bluepoch, so I assume they probably just kept the skins on to do some deliberate skin marketing but hey, it is what it is

While Druvis's Garment is stunning, it changes her character a lot, from a Celtic Druid to a Chinese Dancer. Wish there were a comparison between character default skin and garments
I've played a lot of gacha games and by far the one with the most creative designs is R1999, and the EN dubbing is the best there is, and in terms of the setting (atmosphere and ambiance) ingame it's spectacular (easily one of the best in the gacha games)
it's so sad that R1999 is not very well-known :( at least, not in my country, Vietnam, bc people tend to give up on it easily bc the game doesn't have Vietnamese
@Henryfs. If you want to convince people then do with arguments, not hate. Comparing 2d with 3d designs is extremely unproductive, 2d gives you way more creative liberty because you dont have to make it work in a 3d environment

Yeah, I gotta agree with how using the non-default skins really changes a lot of context for some of these characters, which diminishes the impact. Most of them are kind of silly and it removes some of the cultural connotations of the characters and removes a lot of context for their ultimates.
I'm so happy to have an animator who wants to show the beauty of animation that people work on. Thank you for pointing out all the kinks, that I might never have noticed. This was so fun to watch, that I didn't even know it was 35min and that you have already gone through all the characters listed.
Just my opinion but I'll admit that Reverse 1999 doesn't have alot of impressive character animation but they really come up with creative stuff to make up for it with special effects and concepts
Yeah I feel like the effects work is doing a lot of the heavy lifting in these ults. Nothing against the animators, the effects work is beautiful on most of these, but I think the puppet animation holds them back a little.
I love this, Reverse 1999 is my favorite Gacha game. and i love how you reacted to all the animations epically when your jaw dropped. Also this really helps me understand animation better so thank you for making this video
As a Druvis main, I feel her normal ultimate without the garment shown in the video isn't that good. But with garment equipped, it looks prettier than the normal ultimate. A lot of the characters shown are wearing garments instead of their normal design or the insight garment
I lost my 50/50 to Druvis early and when we fought her in the story, her base ULT made me appreciate her. But her Lunar New Year skin was just an upgrade to her already pretty ult
27:11 Random animator here, Marcus's book is actually not 3D, but achievable stuffs on Live2D/Spine, along with the papers. Notable youtube video about it you can find is Book flipping by Armanimation for Spine, In Live2D you can also does it if you know what you're doing. Quite a few 3D stuffs at a glance in this video is also can be made in Live2D/Spine. Many 3D stuffs you see can actually be just a png that smartly composite.
What im learning here is that the effect and lighting artist carry these ultimates (not that the animation is bad but the effects take center stage majority of the time. Pretty smart idea since its 2d
Fantastic analysis! You've pointed out things that I can never ever unsee now every time I play, thanks a lot 🤣 Personally, I'd say my favorite animation-wise is Spathodea. It's so fiery (no pun intended), energetic, and that impact frame at the end really sells it so much for me. In general, my all-time favorite is Isolde's. That *"TI SOFFOCA IL SANGUE?!?!"* hits just right 👌 A shame they didn't show you some animations in their original outfits - the costumes did kinda change some aspect of their character-defining traits and animations. Case in point, Druvis III and Kaalaa Baunaa. Druvis is a druid, so in her original animation she shoots out thick vines rather than fabric, and Kaalaa is an astronomer with a close connection to a particular celestial body, which she brings down on her enemies in her Ult. The costume Kaalaa was released during the Paris Olympics, I believe, and that's why she looks like a gymnast. Originally she wears a traditional Indian Sari. Glad you enjoyed the animations! There's a lot more interesting animations the game has to offer, particularly the enemies and bosses with their sick as f designs, and I do hope you get to check them out in some way or form! And thanks for giving R1999 a look, it's severely underrated! Also, unrelated but your shock expressions are absolutely hilarious lmao
Really glad you got to this one. R1999 really needs to get more attention. It's just a really rock solid game in the gacha genre. Animations aside, there really isn't anything out there with this level of creativity when it comes to character design. The story is great. The music is something else.
I honestly really enjoyed this analysis a lot, it goes a ton into details and how animations could’ve been better which just,,,, is soooo interesting to me for some reason though I really wish the animations shown were all with the default skins… with some skins the original purpose is lost 😔 still a really fun video regardless! hope you create more r1999 videos like this
Only issue I have with this is saying that ults that give buffs like Ulu's and 37's don't give enough impact, which I feel is intentional for them to be like that. People have already mentioned how some skins change the ults, and that default skins would be better to review. Regardless of that, I thought this video was great, and I'm glad Reverse 1999 is getting more recognition.
As someone who played the game and hasnt touched it in a WHILE, im honestly amazed at how far they've come animation wise, honestly you can really tell the OG base game characters from the newer ones

"Um...... Is Homegirl still Coughing Up Balloons?" Definitely worth the watch because of her Shenanigans or rather the things she says half of the Time and let her know that I sent you! A few things: John Titor (Tit-oar) uses one of the old computers from the 1970s from the war. She speaks in Hexadecimal code, a code used during 1954 in programming APPLe is a literal apple, not a floating head. Bunny Bunny has super strength (it’s in her stories.) That’s why she used her leg to hold the food and drinks. Cristallo is sitting on a chemotherapy device as she has cancer. Mesmer Jr. is in a costume, she doesn’t use a pencil sharpener usually Mondlicht is pronounced Mond-Lich-t (the end part is like t-sh) Ms. Moissan is a potter and a teacher to several characters like Sotheby, etc. Nick Bottom is based off the character of the same name from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Poltergeist is a girl who drowned, that’s why the cloth sticks to her. Rabies was a human doctor who wanted to find a cure to rabies. Click was a young photographer during WW2 who was caught in the crossfire. Lorelei is a siren/mermaid Druvis III costume greatly altered your ranking Ezra is a boy. New characters that have been added or you missed: Pioneer, a 3 star Spirit Arcanist Sweetheart, a 5 star Beast Arcanist (you labeled her as a 6 star) Barbara, a 5 star Spirit Arcanist Schneider, a 5 star Beast “Arcanist” who was playable during the first story Argus, a 6 star Plant Arcanist J, a 6 star Beast Arcanist Mercuria, a 6 star Spirit Arcanist Tuesday, a 6 star Spirit Arcanist (you should check her ultimate out you would like it)
I’ve been a day one player, so fun to see your reactions to all pf the different characters. One part that drove me in was that other games typically only had human characters as playable despite showing a variety of races and lifeforms. The closest Honkai Star Rail gets in this aspect is foxian lifeforms and more importantly puppet herta. Thank you for reviewing this game. Also, Nick Bottom comes from the Shakespeare comedy Midsummer’s Night Dream. The character Charlie aloes draws inspiration from Shakespeare, (she has lots of dialogue pertaining to King Lear, a play and reference to the ruler of her time) Other edit: some characters have different ult effects depending on the skin (e.g. Regulus has two different ones, the second was made a year after the first and sold as a skin). Sometimes it is a coloration change, but thatis the reason for the golden ratio in Sweetheart. It came out during the first Apeiron arc with characters 37 & 6. The garment is titled “The Preaching of Venus” and the fibbonachi spiral can be seen throughout the art. Anyways, Unique Regulus is the best currently. No doubt.
The ranking and analysing are amazing! I love the fact that you’re not ranking based on how complicated the ultimates are but on their accuracy. I wonder if you will do more re1999 content in the future- if so, I recommend watching the version and character trailers. Most of the content are in 2D, but there are some interesting 3D combinations (almost the entire 1.9 version trailer is in 3D though).
Now that you have ranked Reverse:1999, you should definitely try Limbus Company. It uses a similar 2D animation in 3D space method and has some jaw dropping animations (especially the more recent ones). You should look into E.G.O. Skills first, which are kinda like ultimates.
The animator (Dilongo) gets mad inconsistent when he reachs the 6 stars. Seems like he changed his criterias very harshly when he got to them, since most 6 stars far surpass the lowest stars in most things he pointed out before. It's very weird.
I really wish someone else mentioned this. Almost all of his rankings after the 4 stars are kind of strange. You can definitely pass it off as him going into the game mostly blind and not being sure how the actual ultimates of higher rarities would look, but seeing characters like NICK BOTTOM in the same tier as Lucy and Isolde is so jarring. Vila in D tier with all the terrible 2 and 3 stars? I wish he had of at least re arranged his rankings in the end. A personal nitpick was the fact he ranks higher based on the movement of the character model itself rather than the affect and impact, which I don't think was the correct criteria to be ranking for this particular game. Because of its chibi art style in terms of gameplay, it's a lot harder to have these thematic and fluid character animations compared to 3D games he normally reviews. Having characters like Rabies in S tier because they move cool is a bit jarring ngl 😭 I don't think by any means it's a bad video, I just kinda wish the criteria was made more clear for the rankings
@@dysanics The main issue is that he's an animator ranking a game that's known for vfx, not the model. But it's bluepoch's choice to sponsor an animation ranking video, prolly just bc dillon's popular in the chinese gaming space.

another cool detail about Marcus' Ult is the book flips to the diorama of the battle in progress with the enemy party on the left side, the party you have selected on the right side (like classic TB-JRPG used to do) divided along the spin of the book and it then "closes on the story" by snapping the book shut... colliding the left side with the right side. It's what I REALLY like in R1999; the ultimates basically tell ministories that fit with the character's lore and background. Like Semmelweiss seizing the night, Sotheby really just being a crazy girl alchemist who Fudges up way too much but hardly ever in a detrimental way (failing upwards) and Tuesday stomping her feet to summon the array of the haunted hotel to eat the enemy (she's literally putting her foot down to make her child obey)
I love r1999 bc of the rep, the amazing designs, and the amount of details they have using other languages. I find r1999 unique than any other gacha games.
Reverse 1999 has some of the best voice acting and a super good story!! Coming from mhy, I was really impressed with the game and highly recommend it :))
Honestly interested to see your take on the future characters though because those actually got better (at least imo) You ranked 37 quite low here, but I think you'll absolutely love her unique garment. Same goes with upcoming characters such as Mercuria, Joe, Anjo Nala, Argus, Tuesday and so on.
I'd love to see you react to some Limbus Company, namely the E.G.Os (which are kind of like ults). Despite it being a 2D game, it has some gorgeous animations (especially with the newer content) and I'm curious what you'd think of the corrosions as well! Edit: Ara's channel shows the effect differences for heads/tails, Bek's channel shows the obtainment and clash animations
If i could recommend to react to Limbus Company EGO animations it's kind of similar to this where its kind of like there ult but they give two seperate versions one where they have control the other is when they loose it and indiscriminately attack there own ally.

I’ve been a day one player, so fun to see your reactions to all pf the different characters. One part that drove me in was that other games typically only had human characters as playable despite showing a variety of races and lifeforms. The closest Honkai Star Rail gets in this aspect is foxian lifeforms and more importantly puppet herta. Thank you for reviewing this game.
Also, Nick Bottom comes from the Shakespeare comedy Midsummer’s Night Dream. The character Charlie aloes draws inspiration from Shakespeare, (she has lots of dialogue pertaining to King Lear, a play and reference to the ruler of her time)
Other edit: some characters have different ult effects depending on the skin (e.g. Regulus has two different ones, the second was made a year after the first and sold as a skin). Sometimes it is a coloration change, but thatis the reason for the golden ratio in Sweetheart. It came out during the first Apeiron arc with characters 37 & 6. The garment is titled “The Preaching of Venus” and the fibbonachi spiral can be seen throughout the art.
Anyways, Unique Regulus is the best currently. No doubt.

The ranking and analysing are amazing! I love the fact that you’re not ranking based on how complicated the ultimates are but on their accuracy. I wonder if you will do more re1999 content in the future- if so, I recommend watching the version and character trailers. Most of the content are in 2D, but there are some interesting 3D combinations (almost the entire 1.9 version trailer is in 3D though).

Now that you have ranked Reverse:1999, you should definitely try Limbus Company. It uses a similar 2D animation in 3D space method and has some jaw dropping animations (especially the more recent ones). You should look into E.G.O. Skills first, which are kinda like ultimates.

The animator (Dilongo) gets mad inconsistent when he reachs the 6 stars.
Seems like he changed his criterias very harshly when he got to them, since most 6 stars far surpass the lowest stars in most things he pointed out before. It's very weird.
I really wish someone else mentioned this. Almost all of his rankings after the 4 stars are kind of strange. You can definitely pass it off as him going into the game mostly blind and not being sure how the actual ultimates of higher rarities would look, but seeing characters like NICK BOTTOM in the same tier as Lucy and Isolde is so jarring. Vila in D tier with all the terrible 2 and 3 stars? I wish he had of at least re arranged his rankings in the end.
A personal nitpick was the fact he ranks higher based on the movement of the character model itself rather than the affect and impact, which I don't think was the correct criteria to be ranking for this particular game. Because of its chibi art style in terms of gameplay, it's a lot harder to have these thematic and fluid character animations compared to 3D games he normally reviews. Having characters like Rabies in S tier because they move cool is a bit jarring ngl 😭

@@ciello1195 Yeah, I understand what you're saying, I'm just a bit disappointed with the results. Reverse1999 doesn't get a lot of coverage, only via sponsoring which is a shame since the channels being sponsored know nothing about the game.

another cool detail about Marcus' Ult is the book flips to the diorama of the battle in progress with the enemy party on the left side, the party you have selected on the right side (like classic TB-JRPG used to do) divided along the spin of the book and it then "closes on the story" by snapping the book shut... colliding the left side with the right side.
It's what I REALLY like in R1999; the ultimates basically tell ministories that fit with the character's lore and background. Like Semmelweiss seizing the night, Sotheby really just being a crazy girl alchemist who Fudges up way too much but hardly ever in a detrimental way (failing upwards) and Tuesday stomping her feet to summon the array of the haunted hotel to eat the enemy (she's literally putting her foot down to make her child obey)
R99, their strong point is definitely their use of lighting and effects. Bravo!

If i could recommend to react to Limbus Company EGO animations it's kind of similar to this where its kind of like there ult but they give two seperate versions one where they have control the other is when they loose it and indiscriminately attack there own ally.
