    I loved this video and will definitely make one on this topic at some point. Your video is super informative and great for newer players! One extra thing that I find is many stores hate keeping super expensive old cards because like you guys mentioned it takes them forever to sell them and they just want to turn over profits as fast as possible. I have found that if I make offers on a bunch of high end cards they are usually very happy to give sizable discounts just to get rid of cards that they have been holding for 5+ years.

    With the shape of the economy and wanting to diversify outside of the stock market, sealed boxes of sets with cards I love in them at a reasonable price seem almost like a no brainer. I just wish I had discovered this sooner.

    I used to do make-readys for a property management firm and I cleaned out an apartment that had boxes of cards the tenet had left. It's been sitting in my storage for about 4 yrs now and I got no clue about magic, Warhammer 40,000, Yu-Gi-Oh, world of world craft, yu-yu- Hakusho, Star wars, g.i joe, jyhad. I will be going through them count and see how many foils and others I got I lot of research

      Enjoy it! You may find some treasures, and those $1-$5 cards can add up.

    Thanks a lot, for the video! Do you have any thoughts on cards which have very limited print run, but are more of a collectible item rather than a game piece? I was told that old foils in Portuguese are some of the rarest cards in the game, with a very limited print run. Do you have any thoughts on these cards?

    • @MTGNorth
      @MTGNorth  2 роки тому +1

      The only thing that concerns me about those is the language - do a bit of research first for the part of the world you live in. I know if I was trying to sell Portuguese cards up here in Canada, it would take me longer to find a buyer compared to the English versions. There are versions of cards (some Japanese, some Russian) that are worth more than English due to rarity. However, as with almost all non-English cards, it will just take you longer to find a buyer. If you have patience, it's likely worth it!

    Just discovered your channel, really enjoying the content - thank you for it! I've been playing since 1998 or so, had some time out of the game, but have got back into it recently, both playing and thinking of investing. For me, I really want to get into old-bordered foils - its exactly the time around when I started to play so it has a lot of meaning to me. In particular, I like the 'penny-stock' approach of buying a diverse set of old bordered foils at all rareties. My question for a video would be if you could actually show how you store a large number of (currently) low value cards, such as old bordered foil commons - obviously it doesn't make financial sense to grade or slab them?

    • @MTGNorth
      @MTGNorth  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Matthew, thanks for checking out the channel and the great comment!
      We actually spent 9 hours on Saturday sorting cards. We've got just a tad behind on filing our bulk stuff hah. Likely another two Saturdays still to go! Anyways, no slabbing doesn't make sense on the cheaper stuff, anything under $300 really. That line can blur depending on the individual collector. The safest way to store hundreds of foils outside of a binder, and how we do it, is 2 foils per penny sleeve. Make sure they are back to back so the foil faces are not touching. Foils will cloud over time even when the foil face is touching another MTG back. We try and then keep the rows of sleeved foils fairly tight, in a box, inside of a sealed tote. You can put in some dehumidifier packs in the tote to keep moisture content down. Too much moisture causes curling.
      We will be making a video showing how we store our bulk, long term investments, and the higher end stuff also. Stay tuned!

    Whats your thoughts on the cardsphere website for selling and also buying/trading, seen it promoted on another commander youtube channel. Thanks for the content.

    • @MTGNorth
      @MTGNorth  2 роки тому

      Cardsphere is great if you're a player, especially in a rotating format like Standard. EDH players who are constantly making new decks would love the service as well. However, just be aware of the 10% 'cash out' fee, which charges you when you want to take your credit out instead of using it for trade. Because of this, we stick to ebay - the fees end up being very close to the same, but ebay has a much wider user base.
      It is a cool platform, and if you prefer trading over selling, I'd use it!

    nice video guys thanks. I just opened my old collection and I think I need to take better care of the rarer ones. I have a foil Tarmogyf and it's in one of those old Ultra Pro card albums. Condition is mint/ near mint so far. What do you mean when u say double sleeve them?

    • @MTGNorth
      @MTGNorth  Рік тому

      Heya! Double sleeving is using a perfect fit sleeve, upside down on the card, then put the card with the perfect fit into a second standard sleeve. Kinda hard to explain, but search it on UA-cam and you'll get some quality videos!

    Hi guys, very informative video; Liked & Subscribed
    I have a question about the super high-end cards (Ancestral Recall, Timetwister etc..) The Power 9.
    Regardless of condition, is it in your best interest to have them graded & slabbed... not so much for protection reasons, but to increase their value? Or do you think the Power 9 cards visibly retain their value regardless of grade? Or is it a general consensus that only mint/near mint cards of these type should be graded & slabbed?

    • @MTGNorth
      @MTGNorth  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the sub and great question! We will have an upcoming video about grading soon, it’s something we have been doing on and off for many years - the short answer is no matter what the condition, you’re paying to have the card authenticated as well. That alone is worth it for the cost of grading high end. As for the monetary attachment, we will discuss it on channel soon!

    What is the best platform for selling individual cards? And at what point should I have my card graded? I have an old collection I’m going through so any tips would be appreciated 😬

    • @MTGNorth
      @MTGNorth  Рік тому +1

      Hi there! We have used eBay for years and years. It's fairly safe, as safe as anywhere else, and the fees are roughly the same as alternatives like TCGPlayer.
      Grading should really only be done if you're quite certain the card will grade a 9 or higher. Otherwise, you're just paying to have it verified, which eBay does anyways on $250+ sales. Assuming you're USA based.

    how do you feel about sealed at this time? i didnt see this coming. sub'd

    • @MTGNorth
      @MTGNorth  Рік тому

      Thanks for the sub Shane! With us being in a recession, prices have dropped a little, as expected. Our only major concerns have been whether any of the collector boxes were severely overprinted. Some sure were, but were received as bad sets also (Vow, Hunt) so you'll be able to find these sets cheap for sure. Likely a really slow investment. I'd stick to affordable things like War of the Spark and Dominaria for now, but if you see any Zendikar Rising or Ikoria collectors, I feel those 2 will be solid investments. Really depends how long this recession lasts, and if it gets worse.... and as long as there isn't a huge MTG dump on Amazon on cyber Monday!
