I laughed every time Guga said to Sonny, “Thanks for inviting me” but they were at Guga’s house. You guys are amazing! Was a companion plane ticket for Sergeant Gilbert too pricey?
UA-cam cooking scene is so amazing and way beyond what I think most of us expected. I remember growing up on Emeril Lagasse , Bobby Flay , and Alton Brown. All modern pioneers but I think now having real home chefs and friends cook it makes all the difference and it shows. Great job guys awesome video.
You can't go wrong with either. Sonny's method is the method I choose 8 out of 10 times partly because it's quicker for me to cook indoors. But I have to say, there's nothing like a steak off the grill.
It basically comes down to what you're in the mood for. Guga's steak is a BBQ outside with the fam drinking some beers and enjoying the outdoor. Sonny's steak is when you get dressed up with the wife and go to a fancy restaurant and have a glass of wine or a cocktail. Both are amazing in there own ways.
I would somewhat disagree. Guga’s steak could could be served in a fine dining restaurant. Like you had said the only thing really matters is what is your mood? I generally cook cast iron but I would never complain about a good grilled steak.
You know you can combine the techniques and have the best of both worlds. I finally tried it and man it’s worth the effort. I reverse seared a thick ribeye on the grill. It was on the cold side for 35 minutes absorbing all the smoke. I pulled it and put my cast iron pan on the hot side and the seared it and basted with butter, garlic, thyme and shallots. It was epic.
Albert finishing the plates and doing his signature thumbs up, even in this format style of video, was the most satisfying thing Ive seen all month. God tier.
I attribute my steak game to both of you (Sonny and Guga). Kings of the trade in my opinion. As much as I love the grill, Sonny convinced me of the pan sear a year or two back and I rarely cook my steaks any other way. It's the butter basting, I can't live without it. Thank you both for your amazing content! The world needs more steak, always
So much wholesomeness and respect for two amazing chefs here. I would definitely love to reproduce the steaks you've made here. Hope to see more of these kinds of content soon!
You really can’t go wrong with either method. If you twist my arm, I’m going with the grill method simply because of the charcoal taste. However, I mostly cook inside and use the pan method with a cast iron skillet and basting. I’ve learned so much over the years with these videos! Thanks to both of you!
Fun fact: I've been watching your and both of Guga's channels for some years some years, now. I actually learned to sous vide from Guga. Trying to learn from the best, I'm following Maangchi, Seonkyoung Longest (mostly until she turned vegan), Pailin, Scott Rea from the UK, Donal Skehan from Ireland, John Quilter (long time no see), Harpal Singh Sokhi from India, Chef John and a few more. Gonna take a look at Albert's channel, right now. Greetings from the far north of Germany!
What a wholesome cook off and you guys just happen to be 2 of my 3 subscribed cooking channels, did NOT expect this. I definitely wanna make that compound butter and cure some egg yolks now tho
Honestly there's no winner! Both are incredible, and I do both ways! Summer nights over charcoal, winter weekends in my cast iron. They're both excellent! I'm loving the collab with you both as well!
This was a great episode it seems like you both genuinely learned setting from each other while also having fun. Keep em coming champ! Liked and subscribed for the sneak dent on the fridge.
I liked the crust and color on Sonny's steak. I seems like a familiar taste but cranked up even further in taste and texture. The juices coming from the steak seemed appetizing
Love what they did here, however, they should have just done salt pepper garlic for the seasoning and tested that outcome. The different flavors in the sauces are going to alter the results. I bet both steaks were the bomb though.
But that wouldn’t be right. The test was to determine which method allows for the tastiest steak, that includes different techniques for flavoring the steaks. You can’t baste a grilled steak. This allows the exploration of two steaks cooked to perfection in their own way
@@Mike-lu2yl I'd suggest that using slightly different techniques would be fine, but to keep the seasonings relatively similar(yes you can't baste on the grill, but you're winning on the charcoal flavour), and both offerings are forward on the butter component already. If they simplified the seasoning profile, this would've allowed the two to contrast where their respective merits lay. That said, Guga also used a wagyu steak vs what looked to be a prime ribeye. That part is also gonna throw off the judging side of things. Personally, I think pan steaks are better for regular prep/eating as to me, it'd be easier to control. If you had an amazing cut of beef, I'd want to go grill with minimal seasoning to really taste that meat. Both have their strengths and weaknesses in how they're profiled, and subjective preference will decide which is better for the individual. Pan does make for a more repeatable product though.
LOL. I imagined Guga pulling out a steak that has been sitting for a year in goose fat or butter or jello or some shite. I've had the most tender in fire cooking but the most flavor in pan cooking so I salute the both of you. Enjoy both your shows.
Man I already love your channel and am a year+ subber, but the algorithm gave me this, and it makes me love you and guga more. Guga does a great job of "winning UA-cam" while also doing real educational work on his alt channels. Sonny, I genuinely appreciate that you are less focused on the winning UA-cam thing. I just wish you could make as much money as he does, because you are more "pure" in your pursuit of education for its own sake.
On one hand you'd think it would be great, but most of these food tubers get connections with each other and part of what brings in the view on Masterchef and HK is the occasional drama. These people's drama would be artificial or would fuck with their potential collabs.
What an awesome collab between two of my favourite steak cookers. Looking forward to a collab on a single dish where both come together to deliver a steak, meal or whatever mixing both techniques for a unique experience. Cheers!

Sonny, thanks for coming and I got to say I will devour your steak any day! You the man!!!
Right back at you Guga!
2 of my favorites you tube channels together! Love this!
This was amazing seriously two of my go to UA-cam chefs together this was awesome I loved the fridge bit too
Pause guga
Awesome collab you guys, been subbed to both of you two. 😀
Hope you all enjoyed this collab and steak battle!! Guga is the man
You vs nick digiovanni
Joshua Weissman is also in Austin!
Need more of these same videos. Do chicken next
Your the best...
Pretty epic ngl. You and guga are literally two of the main cooking shows I watch. I hope there will be more!
Looks like I won that battle 😂

You always win, Albert
Unanimous win id say

I think it's because they're on Sonny's channel.
He had to stay home to hold down the fort. He’s a sergeant you know! 🫡
Being multi-lingual is awesome. You make everything sound more interesting
I was thinking the same thing
Love ur energy dude !!
Thank you!

why is guga not using a jappenese wagyu
Man, I can’t get enough of these three. Your personalities just compliment each other in a weirdly awesome way.
This is the crossover we didn't just want, but needed. Too much awesomeness in one video.
I never saw not awesome meat n BBQ lovers xD
It's always a joy 😄😁
seeing albert was a cherry on top

Charcoal grilling is an excuse to crack open a cold one and the wife can't say anything. That extra time is enjoyed
I always prefer pan. But yeah Glitchy is right sometimes it’s nice to just be outside
Except the burnt outside, Guga even ruined the steak with all that cancer on the outside, made me cry.
@@scottyboy6269 cancer? you mean crust? what a stupid comment lol
@@nxsgt Don't really agree with the way this is worded, but there is something magical about having grill priviliges.

2 of my favorites too! The things they say ACTUALLY work!
Guga is always so happy and wholesome. Like a hawaiian Santa Claus
😂😂😂😂😂
Brazilian Santa, not sure about the Hawaiian part.

Steakhouses use both methods, grill 1st than add butter and cook in a pan to finish
