At this point I think Katara was thinking about how she was about tousethe spirit water to heal his scar. The same water that she needed to save Aang when Azula attempted to kill him. If she had believed him then and been able to heal him, when he betrayed Aang she might not have been able to save him. He said he was changed before.
I paused it on 17:28 and just looked at Zuko smiling for a long time. It's a rare sight.
Appa doesn't "feel" Zuko's change, he likes him because he remembers Zuko freed him from the Dai-Lee back in Season 2 ^^

I may be alone with this opinion, but I don't mind having Chris or Na'vi and others in the background/off-screen as long as they don't talk too much during the reaction. Their opinions about the reaction is just as valid as the Cozy Four.

I felt sad for Zuko but Katara had every right to be angry and suspicious. She trusted him first, when noone else did, and he betrayed her before.

Such a twisted character. I mean, he always wanted to be good, but he didn't realize that he was bad. He didn't know how to work with other group (which hates him BTW), but as soon as they accepted him, he became good at being good.
I love how Toph supported Zuko. As crazy it seems, Toph nvr witnessed Zuko doing anything bad to them, only good things from Iroh. He even helped them fight azula. Most of Zuko’s shenanigans against the Team Avatar was in season 1, when Toph wasn’t there. I love the continuity of this show
Meanwhile, Zuko probably doesn't remember Toph's name for the longest time.
I mean, given she's blind I wouldn't have expected her to witness Zuko doing anything bad.
They literally say that in the show. They tell Toph they weren’t there for Zuko’s villainy. Also Toph can detect lies.

Guys keep in mind that the last time katara and zuko talked, zuko convinced her that he changed and she aas going to heal his scar with the sacred water from the north. Then he ends up betraying them both and almost killing Aang

COMPLETLEY justified in my opinion too. Without that moment from Katara, I think they still would have forgiven Zuko too easily. I mean they found out he sent an *assassin* after them to kill Aang. He screwed up and has to face it.
Doesn't mean she isn't being a fick about it. It's funny how it's easier to accept a bad character becoming good then a good character becoming more sinister.

+Bryan Again though, he literally sent an assassin to kill them. I think they could have used another episode to develop this specific situation cuz Zuko deserved it and more. Yes there are other episodes where Zuko redeems himself with Aang, Katara and Sokka, but I dont think one episode was enough where they actually let them join him. I get it, I feel bad for Zuko too cuz we know his intentions, but he's facing realistic consequences after everything he's done to them.
You guys should focus should be on what Toph said about being Aang's teacher, not about Katara being mean and hurting his feelings.

I like the moment when Zuko says he can teach how to control firebending is the moment that Aang realises it's a good idea, cuz not controlling it and hurting people (like Katara) is his fear with firebending.
That's part kinda forced. Zuko never had trouble controlling his fire before. The plot just makes him burn Toph so Aang will make the comparison. It was one the weakest parts of this episode

Every time he firebended In book 1 & 2 he always either destroyed something or burned something down.

katara's reaction is only consistent with her character -- she is motivated emotionally and while that means she is kind and trusting most of the time, she tends to be very hurt and angry when betrayed. Remember how mad she got at Jet when he showed up, how mad she got At Her Own Father even though she KNEW WHY her father had to go. It's just in her nature to feel a lot for people and therefore easily hurt. It was a bit over the top yes but we all know that her anger has more reasons than ba sing se but i won't spoil it
Jae Key What do you mean more reasons than ba sing se? I don't recall her interactions with zuko going beyond what was mentioned in this episode. What are you referring to specifically?
It's not over the top at all in this case. If anything it's an under reaction. Sokka too. I think we have more reasons to sympathize with Zuko at this point than the gaang does, so it's easy to see it as a mistake to be so suspicious of him.
Zuko was instrumental in probably the scariest moment for the group. Aang was basically killed. And right after turning a new leaf like he's trying to do here.

I remember the first time I watched this show I thought Katara was being too much and I found myself disliking her, but then I thought of the last time she trusted Zuko easily and it resulted on Aang's life almost coming to end. I love the real take this show goes for. Same thing they did with Toph's arrival. It was pretty rough start. Can't wait for the following episodes. ❤️
It's easy for us as the audience to sympathize with Zuko and want them to accept him because we've seen his whole side of the story. But for the gaang to not trust him and to be so quick to make the decision not to trust him is completely justified from their personal experiences. Aang and Katara both had a moment with Zuko where they saw his humanity and that he was capable of good, and he made the choice to turn on them both times. The second time, Aang literally died. So I wouldn't say they're being harsh or unreasonable at all.

Katara is VERY protective of the people she loves, and reluctant to forgive the people who hurt them. We see it a little bit with Jet when she finds out he captured Sokka, and of course, we see her in full revenge mode in the Southern Raiders.
Exactly it doesn't mean that Katara is kind and loveable for everyone if someone hurts her or someone she loves she will be mad at them more than everyone else

I've seen the comics tho, its say a lot why Katara can't forgive Zuko that fast. Well, when Katara is healing Aang after Azula struck her with lightning, she's having doubts to herself and her healing abilities because it's been weeks and Aang is not waking up. From the Gaang's perspective, Zuko joining the group was an extremely hard sell. Their asses are still sore from getting whooped in the invasion, they know their parents are likely dead, and now the Avatar equivalent of Hermann Goring has just sauntered up to them saying "hey I'm good now can I join you?" I don't know many people who wouldn't have thrown him off the cliff before he could even get his greeting out.
I'm sorry, but Chris ruined a future joke! I guess it's just grains amongst sand, but this is why I vote cozy 4 to close out Avatar.

If you think about it, the order of the "Zuko field trips" is also the order of difficulty in gaining trust from each character:
Field trip 1) Aang (easy) feels unsure about Zuko
Field trip 2) Sokka (medium) does not trust Zuko, but holds no personal grudge
Field trip 3) Katara (hard) hates Zuko for betraying her trust and wants nothing to do with him

I don't know why, but I found myself crying really hard after Zuko finally got accepted into the group and fully realized his true-self. I especially got emotional when Zuko looked at the picture of Iroh and had a flashback. I guess it's because of everything he's been through and the struggles he had to face in order to finally call back his old self. His good self. I think it's the most human part of the show, and one of the reasons why I love and still enjoy Avatar The Last Airbender to this day.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this..Loving your reactions Normies. It's gonna suck when I reach the last ATLA reaction video of yours. :)

Zuko didn't really "attack" the village. No one got hurt. Aang just got captured. He also didn't steal Katara's necklace, he found it.
Well, he would’ve if aang didn’t show up to the village, and the importance of the Necklace is the fact he used it as leverage to get aang
He knew it was Katara’s necklace and kept it for his own benefit instead of giving it back to her. He 100% stole it.

I love how he comes in, and just lays it all out there. Just "i was bad. Ive changed, but i realized i was awful." And even bringing up appa isnt to mitigate or justify the bad, its to try and show his change. And then even after they reject him, hes angry at himself, not them. Because its 100% their right to be not okay and to not forgive.

Who would’ve guessed in Episode 1, when Zuko tries to capture Aang, that Zuko would not only stop trying to catch the Avatar, but become his firebending TEACHER? The character development is flawless in ATLA.

I don’t blame Katara for being strict on Zuko because he did try to kill her and Aang before. Soon they will be able to easily trust each other now that he is sincerely humble. I do appreciate the motherly role Katara plays to Aang, Toph, Sokka and her loved ones as she does not want to see anyone get hurt.
I feel so bad for Chris :( I prefer the cozy 4 and Navi, but I do genuinely feel bad for Chris!
Katara may come across as harsh here but remember, the last time she trusted Zuko he stabbed her in the back, Aang was killed by Azula (the fact that he was revived doesn't change what happened) and the Earth kingdom fell.

they all should have also considered more the fact that he wasn't lying. it always annoys me so much that Toph could sense that everything he said was true but only talked about the fact that he was telling the truth when he said he had freed Appa, so they just ignored the fact that everything he told them was true.
Also exactly it was a reflex, it was Toph's fault for sneaking up to him like that while he was sleeping, she should have clarified that point.
Always notice the female fans are so quick to defend Zuko, funny that.
