Actually, the "keto flu" is 100% preventable if you supplement electrolytes. And it is not optional to take them. Definitely supplement sodium, magnesium, and potassium.

I accidentally thought a soda was sugar free and it wasn't , I messed up it was an accident.

-moderate protein
-intermittent fasting
-exercise
-drink a lot of water
-you may need to consume more salt
no dairy- no milk etc
less sweeteners- NO SUGAR.
But isint dairy good for keto?

Basically every thing but plain milk, cream cheese, Greek yogurt, shredded cheese no starch if possible, almond milk jnstead
Less protein and no dairy? Okay, I guess it's just coconut oil with a straw then.
I've lost 57 pounds so far with keto and resolved a lot of my PCOS symptoms. I've never felt better. :)

@Sabrina Pendergrass I haven't had a problem with cystic acne fortunately. I used to be on Metformin for my insulin resistance but I stopped taking that long before I started keto.
I always said "Never Keto". Well....I hope my words are made of fat cause I'm eating them now.

@Maria Cruz I was worried about sustainability because I LOVE sweets, and I also have an autoimmune thyroid condition in which some people respond poorly to too low of carbs. So we are giving it a go with lots of meal prepping. So far I LOVE it and haven't had any side effects with my thyroid.

For me the "keto flu" was not about headaches or tiredness, I actually felt very energetic, it was about STRONG carb cravings, which I partially expected but not to that extent. Honestly it took a lot of willpower to get through that first week but they subsided. It takes me about one day to get into ketosis.

Just my opinion but I’ve quit smoking and detoxed from opioids after surgery and neither of those compare to carb addiction.
yep, the keto flu is merely withdrawal. you've hit on one of the most dangerous elements of it, which are the cravings. thanks for sticking to it and sharing
@@johnconnor3849 I'd say carb addiction is like quitting cigs & amphetamines at the same time. you have no energy you are irritable, have crazy cravings and you genuinely feel depressed one minute & enraged the next. keep up the good fight!
If you watch your electrolytes you won't get the keto flu at all. Keep potassium, magnesium and sodium up with good food choices, If you need a quick fix, skip the Aleve and eat two pickles.

I spend a day just drinking cream and butter in a king coffee and eat spoonfuls of olive oil to get into ketosis fast. Eat only in a 6 hour window and fast the rest of the day. Harsh but brilliant.
2 day water fast.
3rd day enter ketosis.
No keto flu side effects like those who still eat solids for the dreadful week ahead.
No food for 2 days is rough but easiest transition into keto I've tried.
It takes 1 DAY!
If I want to get to get into Ketosis (don't do Keto all the time) I water FAST for 24 hours and do some HIIT during 20 min and every time this kicks me back into Ketosis.

How long were you on keto?
To see if you’re really in ketosis you need to check your GKI (glucose ketone index). To do this take your blood sugar divided by 18, then divide that answer by your ketone level that will give you your GKI. A GKI less than 1 is highest level of ketosis, 1-3 high ketosis, 3-6 moderate ketosis, 6-9 low ketosis, over 9 not in ketosis.

I went thru keto flu but it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be and it happened 2-3 weeks into keto. I noticed I had a headache that wouldn't go away & one day I literally could not see well enough to drive my car. I ended up drinking powerade zero, adding a multivitamin with selenium and magnesium and just powering through it.
Excellent overview! Definitely on point with paying attention to the water/ electrolyte balance situation! It’s worth the $ to invest in a high quality carb-free electrolyte mix! In 2018, I lost 80 lbs following a Ketogenic Lifestyle and walking 5 days a week. I also turned 50yo and I don’t ever plan to go back to the SAD (Standard American Diet)! Dr. Westman at Duke University is seeing his patients reverse Type 2 diabetes in as little as 12 weeks! Dr. Berg has tons of informative videos as well. SUGAR is the enemy, not fat.

I’m not losing nearly as much weight as I should. My strips keep reading that I’m in and out of ketosis. It’s very discouraging. I’m not cheating and I’m having such a hard time losing weight. I must be doing something wrong. I don’t want to quit but I’ve definitely thought about it!

OMG, nailed everything! Honestly, electrolytes are everything for me in this keto flu period. I'd only add the use of probiotics (like capsules or also eating sauerkraut or kimchi) and also any kind of liver support supplements...helpful for keto in general not just to avoid keto flu. YES YES YES!

Thought I did enough research but didn’t even know about the Keto flu, explains why I’ve been so fatigued. Hope it lights up, been effecting me quit a bit at work
Because of wheat had severe stomach issues. A doctor suggested it could be wheat. I stopped all wheat products and the problem went away. But then I decided to try Keto but my blood pressure is too high because of using salt. Trying to reach Kenosis with intermittent fasting, but so far unsuccessful. Writing this to share my experience and need to lay off the salt. Currently head aches, ringing of ear plus shoulder joint pain. Changing from a vegan diet to a fat diet is quite a challenge for a 75 year old man. Thinking of investigating a keto diet if possible as a vegan?

Dude, this is the first time I watched her. Everything she said happened to me while I was adapting to keto and intermittent fasting! Every single detail. I guess the only thing that truly bothers me is the dehydration part. My nose and mouth are extremely dry after a month doing that, I even thought I was having some type of allergy. I increased the amount of water I’m drinking but still dry… hopefully this goes away asap
i tried keto diet because i want to lose weight, i just want to share my experience with it, its really actually hard to sustain plus i do experience very excruciating headache thats why i stopped it and started agoge diet. i did lose weight without all those bad things and i have never been happier

I’m on keto with a bullet proof coffee and two boiled eggs in breakfast.
No snacking cos I don’t feel hungry.
Lunch and dinner is a three spoons of mutton/ beef mince or chicken with two tb/sp coconut oil and organic butter/ghee. Coffee with 2 tb sp of coconut oil in the evening. I’ve lost 2 and half kgs weight within 7 days with same routine.
I need to fast my ketosis. Any suggestions?
I heard mct oil has a lot of benefit much more than a regular coconut oil? So, is consuming more coconut oil enough to be just as good as mct oil?
One thing that I would be really interested in knowing is, can someone with fatty liver benefit from ketosis? Because I have been told to avoid all animal fats and to limit my plant fats. My thoughts are keto diet would be detremental for fatty liver but I'd be interested to know the effect on the liver.
I have also found out, just through looking through information on different diets, that people with type one diabetes should not go into ketosis. There is a Sawbones podcast, the episode on ketosis, that talks about that.
I used to have a fatty liver. My liver enzymes are completely normal now. It is not fats that causes a fatty liver, but high carb intake. I read the book fatty liver- how to reverse it by sandra Cabot. The dietary changes are what I learned from the book. I follow a higher fat, lower carb, whole foods diet. I don't do extreme like keto. Hope this helps!

So what is left to eat, just a few spoons of coconut oil?
I had it for the first few weeks, it was insane. From feeling tired all the time to having a foggy mind. I even had itchy skin all over. Once I got it under control it went away and since then I have made sure not to challenge this dreadful monster. I keep my diet as consistent as possible so I don"t have to experience it again.
So why do some people say that you can switch to fat burning after about 12 hours of fasting? I know when I have switched because the hunger / cravings go away completely, and it's more like 2-3 days.
The good thing is that: If you get the flu you know you are in Ketosis and the old "bod" is burning the unsightly fat on your belly and thighs. That's how I looked at it. besides, it doesn't last long. Magnesium (not a lot) did the trick for me. Good luck all

From a regular diet, I did the sardine fast and was in ketosis in 24 hours.
How do we determine how much potassium, magnesium, calcium & salt we should be taking in during our keto diet? I've watched Dr Berg & talked to friends, but not getting a same answers. I also take a blood pressure med (Losartan) & a diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide).

I didn’t have the keto flu when I started. I took dr Berg’s electrolytes when I started the Keto diet, I have lost 23lbs. I don”t eat diary as I am lactose intolerant
I would suggest starting with a 2 week SUGAR detox. Once you get over your sugar addiction everything else becomes easier.

Yeah, me too! My withdrawal from sugar was so intense, I pigged out on chocolate chips, now have to start over!

I think the keto flu is actually carb withdrawal. Reducing carbs prevents keto flu for me. As a completely diet controlled diagnosed type two I have had to really reduce carbs anyway.

Here's my trick. I periodically do keto and I can get into ketosis in 2 days easy. Day one eat breakfast as normal and fast the rest of the day. Next morning eat blueberries or strawberries, a green vegetable like broccoli or spinach, and a huge protein serving like a chicken breast or a large can of tuna for breakfast. Have a low carb protein shake for lunch, and by dinner you will be peeing pink on the strips.
I'm down 10lbs in 3 days with keto! keto is the way!!

It's a difficult diet to start but it is so worth it once your body acclimates to the change. I lost 35 pounds since I started and the meals are delicious!

So one of my big issues right now with getting back on keto is meal prepping for my family. My hubby will eat keto, and if he wants more carbs or protein packs it for his lunch. We have an 11 month old who I want to make sure that he is getting a variety of vegetables while also helping me stick to keto. I've done sheet pan meals, I roast veggies for the week for easy meals for him, and also make egg cups ( some with no added salt for him, some for me), but this doesn't feel like enough food or variety. Would you please do a meal prep for a family where parents are doing keto, but kids arent?

Magnesium helps a lot. Drinking Gaterade zero or Hydrate+ helps replace electrolytes.

almond milk is not dairy. heavy cream is. I suggest learning some of these basics before trying a keto diet.

How long should you do the keto diet? I was told not to be in KetoDiet long term or else you’ll get fatty liver and your organs won’t work properly.
We don't actually have any evidence that states that, as no long term studies have been done. That being said, we don't really know long term effects, period. All I can say right now is that personally, I don't think keto is a sustainable diet long term, and if I don't know the long term effects, I wouldn't stick with it for longer than my body "tells" me. Listening is so important. It will depend on you, how much weight you have to lose, what your carb tolerance is, etc. If you feel good on keto and continue to experience the benefits, I'd say you're good to continue. When you start to feel as if you are plateauing, bored, or struggling to maintain the lifestyle, it may be time for a switch.

Sooooo what does one eat when one is starting keto?
I was doing keto for over a year and loved it... unfortunately I developed gallstones so I have to stop. Any advice on gallstones? Would paleo be an option on getting the “benefits” of keto but keeping fat lower? Thanks in advance
Oh man! Well, I definitely suggest talking to your health professional for your specific situation. Paleo can be a very healthy diet that is lower in carbohydrates, but you likely won't have carbs low enough to be in "ketosis" which is really the main benefit of "keto." Still, you'd get other benefits from the whole foods diet, and be loaded up on nutrients :) I typically eat paleo, not keto. It's much more sustainable long term.

Today's 5 th day to start keto diet I am not able to eat anything , just only water ... I list 5.5kg . I wanna continue this diet but not able to eat anything due to high fat food and it's smell do help me ,
