@@Vibez-o5kfasting is NOT unhealthy. Water with some salt is necessary for electrolytes. Black coffee and tea is fine while fasting. It just has to be done corrrectly and is totally beneficial especially when my doctor said to do it.
I do not want ketosis based on consumption of exogenous ketones. I want fat stored in liver to break down into ketones. The only way to do this is to adhere to a ketogenic diet, follow intermittent fasting and practice aerobic exercises that burn glucose for at least 30 min per day or 150 min per week. This is what I aspire to achieve.
We enter ketosis when the liver runs out of its stored glycogen. That's when the liver goes from one fat burning pathway acetyl-CoA to two fat burning pathways acetyl-CoA plus ketones. From a start of neither fasting nor low carbing it takes 1-4 days to enter ketosis. Most commonly 2 days. This is commonly done by eating extremely low carb. Fasting doesn't even change the time needed by an hour. Because the time scale to be in ketosis is day to day, hours have no meaning for this purpose. Resistance exercise is much better at burning off glycogen than aerobics. So pump that iron. But the glycogen that's burned is in the muscles not the liver. So rest an hour between sets. So do a set, wait an hour then do the next set. Repeat until in ketosis. It's still only going to push the timing so you're in ketosis the next morning. All that for one more day in ketosis? Sure. Pumping iron is super good for triggering new lean growth!
Understandable…but there people who are insulin resistant but they cannot make ketones fast enough and they get dizzy and sick beyond what can be endured leading to failure in dieting. Exogenous fat consumption will gently retrain your body and stimulate the fat burning pathways quicker and will help the person feel better during the transition from glycogen burn to fat burn. Also, it will get the person to consume more fats generally speaking and hopefully less carb loaded foods.
Me personally, I started losing the most weight after reading the book Woman’s weight loss secrets: the unspoken truth, a few things you are mentioning in this video are also in the book
Just wanted to thank you for all the information you provide. I was in ketosis for about 35 days and planned a 'cheat day'. BTW: cheat days are not as fun as you might think. After eating 10 chocolate chip cookies and popcorn, I felt horrible! I went to bed without dinner and slept 10 hours, but icky feeling lingered into the next day. Day 2, the day after cheat day; I took 3 MCT oil 8:10 gel pills 3x a day, and ate nothing but sardines. 3 cans total. And did a vigorous hike. Day 3: morning ketones at .6 Not great, but in ketosis. I'm going to stick to 3mct 3x today and see what tomorrow brings! Oh yes, and I fasted. 16:8 for 2 days. Soooo, doing the better and best from this video helped me get back into ketosis pretty fast.
😂sure confused me. I don't pay attention well. 2 months on the carnivore diet with cheating. Went from 237 to 196. Thought I was doing great. Then I hear the word ketosis. Now I have to learn that part. Always leaves me 🤔
I’m on my fourth day of water fasting and I started my period on the third day. I was so confused because I had no cramps at all. I also have not had an appetite this whole time on fasting but since I started my period that explains why I don’t have an appetite during typically. The absence of pain is crazy. I get the worst cramps ever.
Man I wish I could go back 30 years and know all that I do now. And sadly, my boss' wife and my older cousins told me about Atkins Diet book and South Beach, both of which would have been a great lead into keto! I was like you, so badly that I had an ablation done to prevent such terrible pain. You've learned the HEALTHY way. As I'm sure you know by now, a healthy, keto lifestyle improves inflammation in your body. This has been proven in you via absence of period pain! Have you had any more menstrual pain since beginning keto, or do you find it gone? Another thing: fasting before your cycle means not filling up on sugar, which is typical for people. Yes, if you fast you don't have any cycle pain. The best parts of the months for a cycle-woman to do her prolonged fast are from day n.1 (when blood starts) up to day n. 10-12. Then no fasting during ovulation week. Then there is another 4-5 days during which you can fast. Then no fasting the week before your periods. (Dr Mindy Pelz explains fasting for women very well). 🤗
@@jayfink2199 honestly during my menstrual cycle, I’ve always lost my appetite to begin with, so maybe that has something to do with it. A lot of women get cravings I inherently just want to not eat at all. So this time I actually didn’t eat it eliminated my pain so maybe my body was trying to tell me something the whole time. But each fast is different f for me. There are some where I’m not hungry at all. There are some where I have a ton of energy and there are some where I feel like I’m dying. Each one has been different so far.

Your information helped me on my first fast last summer. I went on a 40-day water fast where I consumed 2 liters of Fiji water per day, sometimes black coffee, and zero sugar Powerade for extra electrolytes. Lost 50lbs at an average of I believe it was 1.6lbs per day with it being 2lbs per day predictably, after stabilizing my blood glucose in the first 5 days from 299 to a steady 70-80 for the rest of the fast. I think I still have a youtube short of my transformation. Lots more details that I will explain later.
@@Jennifr1966 no preparation. I woke up hungover on a Sunday morning upside down on my bed, looking outside of my windows af a beautiful morning after a week’s worth of rain. I was going to miss this beautiful day staying in bed all day. I decided right then that I wanted to do a hard reset on my life. Everyday was day one for me. I fought boredom with books and UA-cam, I gave up facebook, I drank 2-3 liters of water for 40 days with black coffee and sometimes Powerade zero.

Also, even though you lost 55 pounds in such a short time frame…I bet you had no extra skin. I’ve heard from others doing water fasts that your body goes into a stage where it eats the excess skin! This is so much better than gastric bypass which leads to lots of loose skin!

Fastest way to ketones is bike cycling 6 hour until all carbs are burnt. Per Randall Cycle your energy goes up when carbs are not blocking fat entering your cells. I’m regularly eat keto day before and no water and food on cycling day before start. So after no food and 6 hour cycling there is a full open flow of fat. And you feel very satiated. So much that it’s very easy to go on a regular fast.
Intermittent fasting would be the best way. I have overcome the craving and I can do up to 18:6 fasting (18 hours drinks water or no caffeine tea; no energy drinks during the duration even sugar free)
Same thing happens to me. Check your blood pressure it's just getting low and your body's not used to it. When you fast it drains the water from your system. Finally the pressure is released. This is the way you're supposed to feel.
I've been trying to get into Keto for the past 7 days. I went cold turkey on soda, fast food, junk food, and fruit. Im exclusively drinking water. I don't feel any different, so I decided to buy keto strips, and it turns out my body is showing Ketone. (: It was definitely a reassuring thing. I figured i was doing something wrong.

Homemade 24 hr cultured dairy has very little lactose left so it’s close to no carbs. I prefer kefir as it’s so easy to make just sitting on my counter & far more diversified critters Ofc cheese has .5g an oz, on average I can’t do nuts except Thxgvg for my holiday treat. I love nuts too much. I do lots of cheeses that day too. And eggnog lol
I started with MCT and had a tablespoon in each of my coffees - 3 coffees before I eat at 3pm and no sign of diarrhoea? I note you say don’t take MCT during fasting state. My last food is 4pm so OMAD in a one hour window 3pm to 4pm - but no diarrhoea from the MCT in fact for me it’s the first time ever - that I would say I am constipated. Before Keto regular as clockwork immediately on rising from bed. 3 weeks on keto diet and I ‘go’ 3 times a week and not much even then BUT almost 4kg lost and eating more than usual - crazy really. I have another tablespoon of MCT before I go to bed. Still no run to the loo !
20/4 5 days a wk IF , but mostly just low low carb. Try to stay under 20 but not always possible, so I don't really say I'm keto. Plus No If on weekends and while I always try and stay low carb, the weekends are going to be less strict. 😊
Always an informtive video, thank you. I do 17 hours fasting everyday, but between 17-18hr - always get light-headed and dizzy. Today I made it to 18hr 15min fast, but had a sudden strong dizzyness. Proteins and fats don't prevent the dizzyness, but carbs always prevent dizziness - or fix the issue immediately after dizzyness starts. Would low glucose cause this? I'm at a loss, and haven't found any information on this issue. Thanks in advance, for anyone's suggestions on this. 🙂
I had a Dr tell me these feelings aren't necessarily low glucose, but the fact it is lower than your normal. You body has to adapt to the new normal. I haven't ask any other Dr about this, but the one who told me was one of the few I trust. You might ck it out.
I’ve seen plenty of info on this, but I’ve been focusing on intermittent fasting rather than the keto community. You need a little salt in your water or electrolytes.
This happens to me also check your blood pressure it's just low. And your body is not used to it. For every ounce of carb U-Store 2 oz of water when you fast you're getting rid of all that water and all that pressure. As long as it's not too low you'll get used to it.

Yes, you can eat all of those! And preferably lots of leafy greens, and cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli and cauliflower) as well. But don't eat legumes too often, because they contain starch. Fresh garlic, onions, turmeric, and ginger are also healthy additions to a keto diet. 🙂

So I wanted to check with the community about blood sugar. I have been keeping my carbs low for close to a month. Never experienced keto flu or anything. I checked my blood sugar 2 days ago and got 54 on the meter and the next day I got 43. I am not having any hypoglycemic symptoms. I feel good but people are concerned that this is too low.

I'm 59 and been into fitness for almost 40 years. Was never interested until Covid when they closed the gyms. I gained over 20 lbs and never had a belly before so after doing my research, I decided to start buying the leanest meats and the good oils with less than 50 grams of carbs a day. Split my workouts to full body 3 days and a 24hr intermittent fasting every 4 days. Not only did I lost the belly, I gained lean muscle mass! Now I'm studying the importance of gut health when it comes to absorption and not all the bad info out their about vitamin replacements a roller coaster diets. Listen to your body and be consistent. If it's not working, try something else but be realistic. These bodies were not built to last so stay active, stay hydrated, and work with what you have.

I started the 3-day sardine FAST but since I was feeling so good, I decided to continue the FAST. Tomorrow will be my 6th day on a sardine FAST and I plan to continue until day 9. My question is this; will this FAST harm my metabolism? or is there any reason why I should stop the FAST? I'm about 40lbs overweight and would like to lose as much as I can (currently only down about 10 lbs.) I know I can't stay FASTing until all 40lbs are gone but was hoping for at least half. There was a guy that fasted for somewhere around 365 days, he was severely overweight...but he did it AND his skin shrunk with him. Fasting is amazing!
Currently insulin resistant 314 pounds Type 2 diabetes.. I do not wanna die from chronic disease etc…. What do you recommend that I eat in my first 7 days of my health journey? currently doing intermittent fasting and keto diet. I think I messed up yesterday by consuming 1 oz too many cashews... they are pretty high in carbohydrate. turns out what I ate was 30g worth of net carbs. today, the ketone test strip shows i'm only carrying trace amounts of ketones. it damn near blew me out all-together. I have tested this multiple times, 20 to 25g is all I can tolerate in a day before the ketones will disappear in my system if I eat anything more than that in a day. Makes it really hard to stay in ketosis while getting some vegetables in the diet.
@@minakxi I was doing very low carbs like meat and fish and eggs and veggies ..I think cheese pulls me out of keytosis..I'm still experimenting..when I did a 45 hour fast with no supplements my keytones went up to 2.0..when I did a sardine fast my keytones went up to 2.7..im finding supplements also kick me out of keytosis..I started taking the bhb supplements from Dr Boz but too short of a time to see if they r working..

can diabetics who take insulin fast and do keto? I tried to lose weight with keto 1.5 yrs and then carnivore 6 months and did not lose any weight other then the initial 20 lbs water weight. Beenezting mostly low carb for several years and still not losing weight. Just started on insulin tritrating up at 16 units now. Blood sugar stillnot going down. But want to try losing with keto after i get bld sugar to 140. Soooo wondering if can do the fasting and keto once bld sugar is stable

Well Dr. got out of the hospital last month and I had ketones of 4 and Glucose level of 408 . My blood was acidic and I was dying. So now they put me back on Insulin again and it is working poorly . Got a clue what I should do ??

I really need to know how to take the BHB so it doesn't cause diarrhea. Im using Ketologic BHB no caffeine, tried 1 serving, 6 grams, and it was immediate runs. Waited a couple days, tried half that, and STILL had unhappy gut. 🥺😔 Anybody??? I just paid a chunk of money for ketone esters and they don't cause the diarrhea, but id also like to use the expensive BHB power. Can someone give me some good assistance??
the hardest part about fasting, is the emotional side of eating. no one eat for eating..we all eat for the taste. The taste is emotional. and this is why it's hard to not eating. You can chew gums tho, to have some flavor and generate some emotions.
Very true! I find myself eating just to have the sensation and the taste. I'm not even hungry. That is going to be the hardest thing to get past. But it is worth it! Best of luck to you❤
Eating emotions is a dopamine hit to the brain. It’s just as much dopamine, the other cravings are from your microbiome. So once you hack your dopamine levels , and change your microbiome, it all gets much easier.
Speak for yourself. I think eating is a waste of time and a pain in the butt. If I could teleport the food into my stomach, I would. Just to get it over with.
Hi Dr. Boz. I love your videos! I have lost over 60 pounds following the keto diet. I am wondering, will birth control affect anything being in ketosis? I have PCOS and take birth control everyday. I would have guessed that "fat fasting" (eating high fat with very little protein or carbs) would be the best way to get into ketosis. By severely restricting carbs and protein for 48 hours you would basically give your body no choice but to metabolize fat.
That isn’t far fasting, it is essentially doing zero carb keto. You can’t eat fat and call it a fast at all. When I don’t eat for 2 days I am in high ketosis. Just fast a weekend Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, no big deal. I fasted this way for a year then went to 7, 9, 32 and 40 day water only fasts.
I hope the Doctor will answer this because I can’t get an answer from a UA-cam doctor but if anyone else knows please answer. I’m a 48 year old type 1 diabetic. Not type 2. Can a type 1 like me go into ketosis? Nobody can or will answer me lol.

I have been multi-day water fasting and intermittent fasting for over 40 years. My motto backpacking is "a pound of food and a pound of my own fat, per day. I was usually fat adapted. For over a year now, it has taken me two days of fasting to get my glucose below 90 and then my meter just says that my ketones are "over 8". AND my heart goes crazy Afib. I am afraid to not then go back to food and out of ketosis. My conditioning has suffered and my pre-d has not improved. SOMEBODY HELP ME, PLEASE
So did I understand Dr.Boz that when fasting DO NOT TAKE MCT OIL? I’ve been doing IF, OMAD and fasting 24, 48, 36, 72 hrs and up to 5 days the longest I’ve done. When I fast I do MCT oil (1-2 tbsp)in morning coffee then switch to olive oil and MCT during the day with either coffee or green tea. So my question is am I not supposed to add these oils to my liquids?
@@mariejones7136 thank you, I may have more if I feel the need I don't have a ketone monitor but I can usually tell when I'm producing ketones through the taste in my mouth or slightly raised and red patches on my cheek bones I had 3 yesterday and wasn't particularly hungry, will do the same today
When are you testing? If you do it while drinking a lot of water it will cause a lower reading. Are you eating high fat? The more fat I eat the higher my ketones are. Are you using urine or blood for testing?
I have done a diet with a lot of meat and added MCT Oil and shakes and I did lose weight and had good ketone levels. The problem with too much meat is that your body will eventually convert your excess protein into gloucose and you will gain weight and clog up your liver with fat.
I've been carnivore for 12 months and strict lion diet for almost 3 months. In spite of this my body finds it very difficult to stay in ketosis. I don't know how you can get more ketogenic than beef, lamb, salt and water. How is my diet not ketogenic? It's my body that has the problem not the diet. Sometimes I will drink a ketone supplement, and it will put me in ketosis. Other times I have that same supplement, and it doesn't put me in ketosis. It is very frustrating as I'm trying to do everything I can and my body is letting me down.
I’ve been doing keto for about a month and in this last week carnivore. This afternoon I woke up from a nap and checked my numbers. My blood glucose was 54, ketones 3.6 and GKI 0.8, Dr. Boz ratio 15. Is this okay? I felt fine and just made sure I ate. Can the Boz ratio or GKI go too low? Especially since I’m so early in this transition.

If MCT oil is the BETTER between good and best, then how can you not recommend it? When I wake at 3am and haven't eaten for 11 hours, but cannot go back to sleep, can I have coconut oil or MCT oil without breaking my fast? While I'm sleeping, my sugar is still climbing, so that before I get up in the morning, I'm kicked out of ketosis. WAKING EVERY DAY WITH KETO FLU after 7 days of 20g carbs and 14-19hrs fasting is just no fun. Should I drink the ketones every 2 hours instead of sleeping? Gloria I'm guessing in 3 months you are past this now, but the "keto flu" symptoms you are experiencing may be lack of electrolytes. Many people on keto need to supplement with electrolytes (Redmond Relyte, LMNT, Salt-T, etc...)
Hi, Dr. Boz. I recently found your channel. I have been doing intermittent fasting for a couple of years and just moved to OMAD about a month ago. However, I have not been doing a low-carb or keto diet, and my success rate has not been great. My question is this: I'm used to IF, but everything I see about starting on keto says to add IF or extended fasts later. Should I just keep going with OMAD and add keto? Or should I go backward in my fasting while my body gets into ketosis? I really don't want to lose ground here. I'm perimenopausal and have been losing and regaining about the same 15-20 pounds over and over again.

When I try to fast I get jittery like a low blood sugar episode. And I'm struggling getting off the sodas completely although I have reduced them to sometimes one a day, sometimes none and replace it with small amounts of Gatorade which isn't much better. Uggggg

@@Vibez-o5kfasting is NOT unhealthy. Water with some salt is necessary for electrolytes. Black coffee and tea is fine while fasting. It just has to be done corrrectly and is totally beneficial especially when my doctor said to do it.
I do not want ketosis based on consumption of exogenous ketones. I want fat stored in liver to break down into ketones. The only way to do this is to adhere to a ketogenic diet, follow intermittent fasting and practice aerobic exercises that burn glucose for at least 30 min per day or 150 min per week. This is what I aspire to achieve.

We enter ketosis when the liver runs out of its stored glycogen. That's when the liver goes from one fat burning pathway acetyl-CoA to two fat burning pathways acetyl-CoA plus ketones.
From a start of neither fasting nor low carbing it takes 1-4 days to enter ketosis. Most commonly 2 days. This is commonly done by eating extremely low carb. Fasting doesn't even change the time needed by an hour. Because the time scale to be in ketosis is day to day, hours have no meaning for this purpose.
Resistance exercise is much better at burning off glycogen than aerobics. So pump that iron. But the glycogen that's burned is in the muscles not the liver. So rest an hour between sets. So do a set, wait an hour then do the next set. Repeat until in ketosis. It's still only going to push the timing so you're in ketosis the next morning. All that for one more day in ketosis? Sure. Pumping iron is super good for triggering new lean growth!

Understandable…but there people who are insulin resistant but they cannot make ketones fast enough and they get dizzy and sick beyond what can be endured leading to failure in dieting. Exogenous fat consumption will gently retrain your body and stimulate the fat burning pathways quicker and will help the person feel better during the transition from glycogen burn to fat burn. Also, it will get the person to consume more fats generally speaking and hopefully less carb loaded foods.
Me personally, I started losing the most weight after reading the book Woman’s weight loss secrets: the unspoken truth, a few things you are mentioning in this video are also in the book
Just wanted to thank you for all the information you provide. I was in ketosis for about 35 days and planned a 'cheat day'. BTW: cheat days are not as fun as you might think. After eating 10 chocolate chip cookies and popcorn, I felt horrible! I went to bed without dinner and slept 10 hours, but icky feeling lingered into the next day. Day 2, the day after cheat day; I took 3 MCT oil 8:10 gel pills 3x a day, and ate nothing but sardines. 3 cans total. And did a vigorous hike. Day 3: morning ketones at .6 Not great, but in ketosis. I'm going to stick to 3mct 3x today and see what tomorrow brings! Oh yes, and I fasted. 16:8 for 2 days. Soooo, doing the better and best from this video helped me get back into ketosis pretty fast.

I’m on my fourth day of water fasting and I started my period on the third day. I was so confused because I had no cramps at all. I also have not had an appetite this whole time on fasting but since I started my period that explains why I don’t have an appetite during typically. The absence of pain is crazy. I get the worst cramps ever.
Man I wish I could go back 30 years and know all that I do now. And sadly, my boss' wife and my older cousins told me about Atkins Diet book and South Beach, both of which would have been a great lead into keto!
I was like you, so badly that I had an ablation done to prevent such terrible pain. You've learned the HEALTHY way. As I'm sure you know by now, a healthy, keto lifestyle improves inflammation in your body. This has been proven in you via absence of period pain! Have you had any more menstrual pain since beginning keto, or do you find it gone?
Another thing: fasting before your cycle means not filling up on sugar, which is typical for people.

Yes, if you fast you don't have any cycle pain. The best parts of the months for a cycle-woman to do her prolonged fast are from day n.1 (when blood starts) up to day n. 10-12. Then no fasting during ovulation week. Then there is another 4-5 days during which you can fast. Then no fasting the week before your periods. (Dr Mindy Pelz explains fasting for women very well). 🤗

@@jayfink2199 honestly during my menstrual cycle, I’ve always lost my appetite to begin with, so maybe that has something to do with it. A lot of women get cravings I inherently just want to not eat at all. So this time I actually didn’t eat it eliminated my pain so maybe my body was trying to tell me something the whole time.
But each fast is different f for me. There are some where I’m not hungry at all. There are some where I have a ton of energy and there are some where I feel like I’m dying. Each one has been different so far.
Chills and so hard to believe. I completely believe. Doctors have hurt me much than ever helped me. I am 68. I bought your book about your your story trying to heal your mother and your father.
That was the beginning of working on me. The new information I have found on UA-cam is amazing. Love your hard work.
Your information helped me on my first fast last summer. I went on a 40-day water fast where I consumed 2 liters of Fiji water per day, sometimes black coffee, and zero sugar Powerade for extra electrolytes. Lost 50lbs at an average of I believe it was 1.6lbs per day with it being 2lbs per day predictably, after stabilizing my blood glucose in the first 5 days from 299 to a steady 70-80 for the rest of the fast. I think I still have a youtube short of my transformation.

I was going to miss this beautiful day staying in bed all day.
I decided right then that I wanted to do a hard reset on my life.
Everyday was day one for me.
I fought boredom with books and UA-cam, I gave up facebook, I drank 2-3 liters of water for 40 days with black coffee and sometimes Powerade zero.

I’m 4 MONTHS into water fasting and feel better than I have in my whole life.
Fastest way to ketones is bike cycling 6 hour until all carbs are burnt. Per Randall Cycle your energy goes up when carbs are not blocking fat entering your cells. I’m regularly eat keto day before and no water and food on cycling day before start. So after no food and 6 hour cycling there is a full open flow of fat. And you feel very satiated. So much that it’s very easy to go on a regular fast.
Intermittent fasting would be the best way.
I have overcome the craving and I can do up to 18:6 fasting (18 hours drinks water or no caffeine tea; no energy drinks during the duration even sugar free)
Same thing happens to me. Check your blood pressure it's just getting low and your body's not used to it. When you fast it drains the water from your system. Finally the pressure is released. This is the way you're supposed to feel.

I've been trying to get into Keto for the past 7 days.
I went cold turkey on soda, fast food, junk food, and fruit. Im exclusively drinking water.
I don't feel any different, so I decided to buy keto strips, and it turns out my body is showing Ketone. (:
It was definitely a reassuring thing. I figured i was doing something wrong.

Homemade 24 hr cultured dairy has very little lactose left so it’s close to no carbs. I prefer kefir as it’s so easy to make just sitting on my counter & far more diversified critters

I started with MCT and had a tablespoon in each of my coffees - 3 coffees before I eat at 3pm and no sign of diarrhoea?
I note you say don’t take MCT during fasting state. My last food is 4pm so OMAD in a one hour window 3pm to 4pm - but no diarrhoea from the MCT in fact for me it’s the first time ever - that I would say I am constipated. Before Keto regular as clockwork immediately on rising from bed. 3 weeks on keto diet and I ‘go’ 3 times a week and not much even then BUT almost 4kg lost and eating more than usual - crazy really. I have another tablespoon of MCT before I go to bed. Still no run to the loo !
20/4 5 days a wk IF , but mostly just low low carb. Try to stay under 20 but not always possible, so I don't really say I'm keto. Plus No If on weekends and while I always try and stay low carb, the weekends are going to be less strict. 😊

I do 17 hours fasting everyday, but between 17-18hr - always get light-headed and dizzy.
Today I made it to 18hr 15min fast, but had a sudden strong dizzyness.
Proteins and fats don't prevent the dizzyness, but carbs always prevent dizziness - or fix the issue immediately after dizzyness starts.
Would low glucose cause this? I'm at a loss, and haven't found any information on this issue.

I had a Dr tell me these feelings aren't necessarily low glucose, but the fact it is lower than your normal. You body has to adapt to the new normal. I haven't ask any other Dr about this, but the one who told me was one of the few I trust. You might ck it out.

I’ve seen plenty of info on this, but I’ve been focusing on intermittent fasting rather than the keto community. You need a little salt in your water or electrolytes.
This happens to me also check your blood pressure it's just low. And your body is not used to it. For every ounce of carb U-Store 2 oz of water when you fast you're getting rid of all that water and all that pressure. As long as it's not too low you'll get used to it.

Yes, you can eat all of those! And preferably lots of leafy greens, and cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli and cauliflower) as well. But don't eat legumes too often, because they contain starch. Fresh garlic, onions, turmeric, and ginger are also healthy additions to a keto diet. 🙂

Eat veg grow above ground so basically not root veg but lefty ones. You can also check what type of veg contains more starch and avoid it. 😃

So I wanted to check with the community about blood sugar. I have been keeping my carbs low for close to a month. Never experienced keto flu or anything. I checked my blood sugar 2 days ago and got 54 on the meter and the next day I got 43. I am not having any hypoglycemic symptoms. I feel good but people are concerned that this is too low.

I'm 59 and been into fitness for almost 40 years. Was never interested until Covid when they closed the gyms. I gained over 20 lbs and never had a belly before so after doing my research, I decided to start buying the leanest meats and the good oils with less than 50 grams of carbs a day. Split my workouts to full body 3 days and a 24hr intermittent fasting every 4 days. Not only did I lost the belly, I gained lean muscle mass! Now I'm studying the importance of gut health when it comes to absorption and not all the bad info out their about vitamin replacements a roller coaster diets. Listen to your body and be consistent. If it's not working, try something else but be realistic. These bodies were not built to last so stay active, stay hydrated, and work with what you have.

No. MCT oil is better.
What do you do when you have a medication that works best with protein. I will never be on a extended fast for this reason.

I started the 3-day sardine FAST but since I was feeling so good, I decided to continue the FAST. Tomorrow will be my 6th day on a sardine FAST and I plan to continue until day 9. My question is this; will this FAST harm my metabolism? or is there any reason why I should stop the FAST? I'm about 40lbs overweight and would like to lose as much as I can (currently only down about 10 lbs.) I know I can't stay FASTing until all 40lbs are gone but was hoping for at least half. You need to eat vegetables, protein, carbs, fiber, etc. and at least 1200 calories a day.
There was a guy that fasted for somewhere around 365 days, he was severely overweight...but he did it AND his skin shrunk with him. Fasting is amazing!

Both is good. I use Kerrygold butter. From grass fed cows. That’s what you want. Butter from happy cows that are fed what they are meant to eat.
currently doing intermittent fasting and keto diet. I think I messed up yesterday by consuming 1 oz too many cashews... they are pretty high in carbohydrate. turns out what I ate was 30g worth of net carbs. today, the ketone test strip shows i'm only carrying trace amounts of ketones. it damn near blew me out all-together. I have tested this multiple times, 20 to 25g is all I can tolerate in a day before the ketones will disappear in my system if I eat anything more than that in a day. Makes it really hard to stay in ketosis while getting some vegetables in the diet.

I said the same thing to myself as well. Lol however I believe if you take her journey into account and the reasons why she did it I understand. She's years into this her body has adapted to her weekly fasts. Most of her patients are no where near the level that she is on Just my take on it 🤷🏽♀️

can diabetics who take insulin fast and do keto? I tried to lose weight with keto 1.5 yrs and then carnivore 6 months and did not lose any weight other then the initial 20 lbs water weight. Beenezting mostly low carb for several years and still not losing weight. Just started on insulin tritrating up at 16 units now. Blood sugar stillnot going down. But want to try losing with keto after i get bld sugar to 140. Soooo wondering if can do the fasting and keto once bld sugar is stable

Well Dr. got out of the hospital last month and I had ketones of 4 and Glucose level of 408 . My blood was acidic and I was dying. So now they put me back on Insulin again and it is working poorly . Got a clue what I should do ??

I really need to know how to take the BHB so it doesn't cause diarrhea. Im using Ketologic BHB no caffeine, tried 1 serving, 6 grams, and it was immediate runs. Waited a couple days, tried half that, and STILL had unhappy gut. 🥺😔 Anybody??? the hardest part about fasting, is the emotional side of eating. no one eat for eating..we all eat for the taste. The taste is emotional. and this is why it's hard to not eating. You can chew gums tho, to have some flavor and generate some emotions.
Very true! I find myself eating just to have the sensation and the taste. I'm not even hungry. That is going to be the hardest thing to get past. But it is worth it! Best of luck to you❤

Eating emotions is a dopamine hit to the brain. It’s just as much dopamine, the other cravings are from your microbiome. So once you hack your dopamine levels , and change your microbiome, it all gets much easier.

I would have guessed that "fat fasting" (eating high fat with very little protein or carbs) would be the best way to get into ketosis. By severely restricting carbs and protein for 48 hours you would basically give your body no choice but to metabolize fat.
That isn’t far fasting, it is essentially doing zero carb keto. You can’t eat fat and call it a fast at all. When I don’t eat for 2 days I am in high ketosis. Just fast a weekend Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, no big deal. I fasted this way for a year then went to 7, 9, 32 and 40 day water only fasts.

I have been multi-day water fasting and intermittent fasting for over 40 years. My motto backpacking is "a pound of food and a pound of my own fat, per day. I was usually fat adapted.
For over a year now, it has taken me two days of fasting to get my glucose below 90 and then my meter just says that my ketones are "over 8". AND my heart goes crazy Afib. I am afraid to not then go back to food and out of ketosis. My conditioning has suffered and my pre-d has not improved.

I’ve been doing IF, OMAD and fasting 24, 48, 36, 72 hrs and up to 5 days the longest I’ve done.
When I fast I do MCT oil (1-2 tbsp)in morning coffee then switch to olive oil and MCT during the day with either coffee or green tea.
So my question is am I not supposed to add these oils to my liquids?

I think having too high of protein can affect your levels
When are you testing? If you do it while drinking a lot of water it will cause a lower reading. Are you eating high fat? The more fat I eat the higher my ketones are. Are you using urine or blood for testing?
I have done a diet with a lot of meat and added MCT Oil and shakes and I did lose weight and had good ketone levels. The problem with too much meat is that your body will eventually convert your excess protein into gloucose and you will gain weight and clog up your liver with fat.
Make sure the meat is fatty. Without enough fat, cortisol spikes, which causes insulin resistance.
Try Dr Boz sardine fast. Her videos seem to show everyone goes into ketosis then.
I've been carnivore for 12 months and strict lion diet for almost 3 months. In spite of this my body finds it very difficult to stay in ketosis. I don't know how you can get more ketogenic than beef, lamb, salt and water. How is my diet not ketogenic? It's my body that has the problem not the diet. Sometimes I will drink a ketone supplement, and it will put me in ketosis. Other times I have that same supplement, and it doesn't put me in ketosis. It is very frustrating as I'm trying to do everything I can and my body is letting me down.
I’ve been doing keto for about a month and in this last week carnivore. This afternoon I woke up from a nap and checked my numbers. My blood glucose was 54, ketones 3.6 and GKI 0.8, Dr. Boz ratio 15. Is this okay? I felt fine and just made sure I ate. Can the Boz ratio or GKI go too low? Especially since I’m so early in this transition.

If MCT oil is the BETTER between good and best, then how can you not recommend it? When I wake at 3am and haven't eaten for 11 hours, but cannot go back to sleep, can I have coconut oil or MCT oil without breaking my fast? While I'm sleeping, my sugar is still climbing, so that before I get up in the morning, I'm kicked out of ketosis. WAKING EVERY DAY WITH KETO FLU after 7 days of 20g carbs and 14-19hrs fasting is just no fun. Should I drink the ketones every 2 hours instead of sleeping? Fitbit is measuring my sleep as "poor" now since I began keto. 😞 (to be accurate, it was no better than "fair" before)
Gloria I'm guessing in 3 months you are past this now, but the "keto flu" symptoms you are experiencing may be lack of electrolytes. Many people on keto need to supplement with electrolytes (Redmond Relyte, LMNT, Salt-T, etc...)
Hi, Dr. Boz. I recently found your channel. I have been doing intermittent fasting for a couple of years and just moved to OMAD about a month ago. However, I have not been doing a low-carb or keto diet, and my success rate has not been great. My question is this: I'm used to IF, but everything I see about starting on keto says to add IF or extended fasts later. Should I just keep going with OMAD and add keto? When I try to fast I get jittery like a low blood sugar episode. And I'm struggling getting off the sodas completely although I have reduced them to sometimes one a day, sometimes none and replace it with small amounts of Gatorade which isn't much better. Uggggg
