Disabled vet with two small dogs, been hiding for five years in rural California. I don’t do well around strangers anymore. I’m jealous I need to get out and about in the backwoods. Waiting for spring. Thinking about Montana. Happy trails, travel safe.
I just would like to thank you for all your great adventures being accessible to us. Wish I was younger(I’m 63) to go to more of these places. I now stick to easier trails. Again thanks for all you do. Thanks for always making me smile.❤
@@rafeller9057 your advice gives a meaningful wisdom to me who is now 55 and wondered what I can do for myself at this age... I hope you enjoy your life and happiness. I lived in Colorado to attend a university but now am back in my home country Korea. Thank you sir...
Wow, I can't believe what that canyon and trail is like now. It's good to see the old smoke stack is still standing. In 1970, my then-new wife and I hiked up there for a look-see. Sometime later they rebuilt the road. Then in 1973 we drove up there and camped for a couple of days. At that time there was nothing there but stone cabin frames. The only vehicle we found was an old wrecked jeep off to the side of the road. I would love to visit up there again. But I'm now 78 years old. The mind is willing, but the body isn't!
Now that's a cabin! The tub is a little tricky. You have to get the tank about half full get it boiling then turn the water back on and slowly fill the tub as the cold water mixes with hot water. It takes a little practice, but once you get just right, the water comes out nice and hot. I've heard about that cabin and can't wait to hike up there. There's so many places in that area that are worth hiking in to see. But the cabin sure makes a great base camp for spending several days there. Thanks for the video review Sarah, and I'd even put in a few hours doing some repairs on the place. It's not often that we can hike into a place that nice. Guess it's too much of a hike for the yahoo's to make. You didn't say anything about the sky? Was it too cloudy? Great video anyhow. And some interesting stories are waiting to read!
That was really a tough hike but when you reach your destination you are rewarded with a great place to stay, you could n ask for a better cabin and you have seen many thanks for taking us along
The number 666 has nothing to do with the devil. It’s the number of man. Read your Bible. I don’t mean to put this on your comment I just want people to understand real truth.
This place looks awesome. I would love to hike up with a group, help fix it up, and enjoy that hot bath. I'm not sure beer would stay cold on the way up, but I could pack a bottle of brandy for our sipping pleasure!
@@treskarina There is the mountain spring to chill them down a little. But Brandy is dandy. That porch just needs a little help and would be an amazing place to relax and enjoy a sunset with the fire going.
It just proves that they were very literate people, and much more sophisticated than we are to suppose. Also, the notebooks give me "hope" that some of us are still literate. And not just succumbing to moving images.
Friend took me to her remote cabin. She had an old clawfoot tub she used as a bath tub. She used a propane tank to heat it. She had these tubes running the length and one on each end with holes drilld in them. The water pump was right there too. She fired that puppy off. She had a plank to sit on inside so you didn't fry your cheeks. In the middle of a cedar Grove . I was waiting for her to start cutting veggies and put in with me. It started to snow after a bit. Absolutely wonderful
# 3 mountain life, my folks bought a lot on Lake Cavanaugh in 1949, dad started us off in an Army tent, about 15' square. There was an old oil drum ? square, that became our stove. Four car batteries supplied power for a couple lights, after all we were only one of a dozen or so lots sold at that time. I was age six. Out house on the hill,, water from a well dug near the lake down about 8 or 10 feet. I was too young to know or care. Galvanized garbage can on a platform and a hose to the house supplied water for the sink and kitchen. A great vacation spot for many years.
I love the spending time at the Castle. You started reading my log entry. I can’t believe you could read my writing. I saw my jacket that I left is still in the cabin. I am so glad that the Castle survived the tropical storm. I will be up there in the spring.
Ha, ha, ha😂😅 Way to funny 🤣 !!!!!!!! I live in Az n never heard of it... But that is not unusual outHere !!! Great video miss. Nut'n mo chillaxin than a hot tub, candle lite, Choco milk, n " good company " 🎉
I will always admire those who schlep materials up the side of a Mountain, in order to build a dream. That cast iron tub requires 4 strong men to get it off a truck, up some stairs, and into a master bath.Another thing I admire is your pace. At 6,500 ft. you are 1,200 feet higher than a mile up, where the air is thin. You, Sara, are a Badass!! Continue your journys, and I will be right here, rooting you on! Lots of Love and Peace, Kiddo xoxoxxx Jim in Oregon
WH, Sad about that young man's short life, but at least he's remembered. What an awesome cabin. The trail could be fixed without restoring the road, that would be a great Boy Scout project. Cheers, Rik Spector
I remember sometime around 1985 there was a washout in Beveridge canyon as well. I wasn't there when it happened but it came close to washing the cabin away - the outside wall had about five feet high of rock & mud piled onto it. Some of the boulders were about four feet in diameter, The switchback at the cabin was totally gone, the road leading to the cabin was washed out at the mouth of the canyon.
Hiked up there in the late 80s hired a guy who lived at the bottom named rock to carry my five-year-old son up. Stayed for two weeks. You brought back wonderful memories I took a bath also back then you just lit a fire under the actual tub beautiful
6:44 That looks like a Dodge pick-up from the early 1960's. Most of the others look like Chevys. 6:58 Powermatic was the name given to the automatic transmissions in the larger Chevy trucks in the mid-1950's. Looks like that truck was a Tri-5 model, though I don't know exactly what year.
Back in the 70 our group of friends and neighbors used to camp in Ballarat we qe able to take 4x4s up canyon and dirt bike we met the resident real old guy on porch of cabin with double barrel shotgun he welcomed us told stories good memories good times i remember the wind chimes and metal tools on porch

Sarah, thank you so much for taking us to the Castle. I've got to get myself up there to experience the place. Unfortunately I have not been to Panamint City yet. It's about the only place in Death Valley that I haven't been so it's time.
With your Blazer and your pup , it would be a very tough trip. The bush-whacking is the only thing keeping me away . (I KNOW the Blazer is out of the question, for those who were gonna call foul) !
Trick is getting the water to fill down the line and let in fill back into your boiler. Once all lines are filled, basically equalling presures at the systerine. Then, you'll also have cabin water plus continuously allowing water to flow into the tank, which can be regulated by turning the valve.
What a great volunteer cabin! Love the hobo bath. What a great place. That's the kinda place that would be nice to camp for a few days. Keep wandering pixie sara. Another good hump day vlog as always. Peace

reminds me of my grandparents bath house; they had bathtub made out redwood with a steel plate on the bottom and a wooden grate on top of steel plate so that you can sit in the tub. My grandfather would fill the tub with water; then he would start fire under the tub to heat the water. once the water is heated he would place a wooden cover over the tub to keep the water hot. you would wash yourself outside of the tub before entering the tub. Just wondering , but what happened to the 5 feet of rock and mud ? It's not there now...
@@rickobrien4025 That year, work was done to divert future slides away from the cabin and other areas were dug out, things were moved around.
Was it being cared for by the Boy Scout troop then? Did they do all that work?
