Rare that a band can swap lead singers and still maintain. AC/DC and Black Sabbath come to mind. Nation is still one of my favorite albums ever.
If you see the comments throughout the years actually there was lots of negativity towards the changes. The support drops soon as you make changes and the majority of the community shifts too.
For me personally and some others who listen to various music instead of being stuckup, we couldn't care less for opinions, we listen to music if it's good, don't care who makes it ...
As for live shows and making money they were covered, mostly they went to live festivals where multiple bands perform and on those places many people don't even know wtf they come for they listen to whatever or listen to things because they are forced to stay waiting for the next band etc.
The problem arise when you have a band but fail to make a singular live show with enough people to cover costs etc. That is why most jump the festival shows with mixed performers.
One example out of many, Skrillex was hated worldwide but he always performed inbetween major acts and hence how he made money and managed to stay afloat for years. I remember going to see The Prodigy and right before them they pushed in Skrillex for 30 minutes, he wasn't even mentioned on the phamlet. People including myself stayed around doing circles getting drinks etc but we were not pleased listening to his garbage. Later in the montage he released they cut in the audience being all hyped etc, I can assure you that was the audience from a different act XD

I made the same mistake... until quadra hit me. Awesome album. I started going backwards through their catalogue and man... machine Messiah is killer too. Andreas is a Monster. Mediator... such a brutal album. I highly recomend to check them out. Btw... Kairos? Very solid as well
