Keep in mind Gary Payton only played with Bird the last two years of Larry's career. After his body was broken down with the double Achilles surgery, his spine being unstable, and all the accumulated injuries over his career. Payton never faced Prime Bird and still has that level of respect for the man.
6:38~ the BEHIND the glass, over the top, and swoosh into the basket kills me every time, and it happens so fast that most people miss it!! He was phenomenal~ like a magician on that court. He is absolutely my favorite player to watch!!! Larry Legend 🍀🍀🍀Thank you!!!
Yeah, people don't realize it didn't count though. It's against the rules to do that. It's actually a turnover. Falling out of bounds anyway, may as well look good doing it. That's Legend....lol
Enjoyed your reaction 😊 For me Larry Bird's trash talking, either broke a player down, or forced an opponent to be a better player, & it was the strength of the player, which way they were affected.......that was just a part of who Bird was 😊
Magic and bird revived the NBA and loved each other. respected life long friends. There is very few sports stories than these the relathionship between these two competitors.
yeah, but it was all Larry. He took a 29 win, last place team in 78 without him, and turned it to a 61 win, ECFs (lost in game 7) while wining Rookie of the Year and coming in 4th in MVP voting! That's a 32 game difference! And McHale came off the bench until 85 or 86.
I agree, he elevated that whole team~ but you only have to watch the "Best passer" highlights, or watch him in person (which I have, coming from outside Boston) to appreciate how on their toes his teammates had to be 100% of the time, or he'd make you look stupid. They ALL got better and ended with Championship seasons. @@mattlefebvre123
@@mattlefebvre123 when you call Kevin McHale a "bench player" remember you mean "best bench player in the NBA" -- he won back to back Sixth Man of the Year awards before moving up to starter. He led the league in FG% twice. Did playing with Bird make him better? Hell yeah, and he'd be the first to say so. But it's not like there wasn't a lot of talent there already for Bird to work with. Parrish hadn't been great with the Warriors, but the Warriors sucked during that era. He was highly regarded enough that at the end of his career the Jordan-era Bulls signed him as a backup player, and he earned a fourth ring with them. Dennis Johnson was a four-time all-star BEFORE he joined the Celtics. They were signing up a star, not a schlub. Bird was the key, no doubt about it, but he had talent around him and one of the reasons he was so great is that he knew how to make that talent blossom around him. That's also why he transitioned so well to coaching and executive roles.
You're way off on Larry playing by himself. On the 1986 Celtics team he played with 4 other Hall of Famers: Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, Dennis Johnson, and Bill Walton. You need to do the 'Making the Case: The 1986 Boston Celtics". The greatest team of all time.
I wish you could have gotten to see him play. Those of us who were fortunate enough to get to see him play got a show put on for us nearly every time he laced up those Converse. His court awareness was unparalleled. Look up some of his passing videos if you want to be astounded even more. Larry Bird was an assassin who had no concept of the word "quit". He was all attack all the time.

React to a ( A COURTSHIP OF RIVALS LARRY BIRD AND MAJIC JOHNSON STORY) it is about 1 1/2 hours long so it is best to do in three segments. It is a story of both of them from growing up to high school ,college, pros and retirement and of course the rivalry between them. Great video and story of the ups and downs
Please pause for your comments so that you don't miss what they're saying during the interviews and we don't miss it either. Hard to listen to both at the same time. Other than that love the react man!
McHale,Parrish and Dennis Johnson and Walton are all 4 in HoF and most deservedly so...McHale was at least as good as Hakeem with his back to the basket and Parrish ran the floor as well as any Center except perhaps the young Wilt. Walton's body was shot by this time, but still a key player and 6th Man of Year and was a great, great all around Center and perhaps the best passing Center ever.DJ was a rock and had a basketball IQ on par with Bird.
Yeah mchale is probably one of the best post player ever. He also got hurt in 86-87 was never the same after that. Its why they lost in 87 to the Lakers. I think the celtics were better if they were all healthy.
Great reaction. You should check out his passing video. In another video it highlights one game where was just one steal away from a quadruple double, and that was just in the third quarter.
Kevin mchale is a legend, you should check out his highlights... I know he looks goofy, but he had crazy footwork with a 6'10" frame and 7+ foot arms Larry is awesome, great reaction, love to see the old school players getting love
McHale has an 8’ wingspan - not only are his arms very long, but his wide, square-set shoulders added to that wingspan total. He only *looked* awkward and gangly - his post moves were poetry in motion. McHale was known as “The Man of 1000 Moves”, confounding his opponents. In his era, he is mentioned in the same breath as Olajuwon and his “Dream Shake”
If you want to know about the other players Bird played with, react to "Making the Case for The 1985-86 Boston Celtics," as the greatest team of all time. It's a great video!!
Michael Jordan said bird taught him how to trash talk lol. You have to watch the video on the 1986 Celtics team. Larry is the leader and they all rose to the occasion because he played at 1110 percent every game he played. Larry bird was amazing to watch! Mj may be the goat lebron may beat him in stats but Larry bird remains my most favorite player ever.
MacDonald's did like 5 commercials with him in them . One or two other players would be in it too and the basically played horse with him calling shots
The best thing about his trash talk is his appearance. Nobody would ever believe he talked like that by looking at him. He looks the exact difference of trash talk.

Actually Larry did not stay for 2 years after Magic retired. he finished out the rest of the season and he retired I think in 92 but his retirement ceremony was in 93
Magic had the gift of gab. Didn't they call McHale the worm because of the way he could move under the basket? He was a HOFer. Trash talking can be a very strong weapon to use against an opponent. There is a story about when Larry was about to shot a free throw, a young player started trying to chat him out. Larry turned to him and said something like "Are you kidding me?" And he proceeded to hit both shots.
Kevin McHale (hall of famer) is arguably the 2nd best post player behind Hakeem Olajuwon.. Parrish (Hallof famer), just a solid prototype center that did pretty much everything well, played good defense, rebounded, ran the floor, good post player, solid jumper, shot free throws at an 80%+ clip.. Dennis Johnson (hall of famer) the premier defensive guard if his era. Steady mid range jumper, ran the offense as a PG (Bird calls him the best teammate he ever had).. Danny Ainge was great outside shooting 2 guard.. there is some videos on Kevin McHale. You should watch a Mchale vid. He was a premier post player

Mchale was a legit HOF player. His nickname was ‘the man of 1000 moves’ for his footwork. LB said DJ was the best player he played with and both were good in the clutch. Ainge was a pest of defender who was lethal from 3 pt land. Personally I think Perish only made HOF due to Larry. That said he could run all game, was good free throw shooter and had decent middie. As a Laker fan I saw too much of Celtics.
Bird trash talked MJ. Bird backed up his trash talk. I watched his entire career I only remember 1 last second shot he ever missed and it was a fading 3 that rimmed out in the finals
I grew up with Magic being my favorite player. Well all those Lakers, Byron Scott, Michael Cooper, Orlando Woolridge, Kurt Rambis, Kareem. Saw them play live i hated the Celtics and Bird with a passion. But he has low key become my favorite player. Magic and Larry, 1A and 1B. Kobe 1C. Not saying that Jordan or Lebron or whoever isn’t better but heart, basketball IQ, work ethic, those three are my GOATs.
Jordan vs. Bird: 0-6 in the playoffs; 11-17 overall. It wasn’t just 6’9” Bird, though, on that Celtics team. Bird was the greatest, but McHale & Parrish were also awesome. Those 3 were maybe the best frontline ever. So were Dennis Johnson and Danny Ainge, the guards. In 1986, the Celtics went 40-1 at home; 50-1 including the Playoffs. No other team has EVER done that to this day. Not the Lakers. Not the Bulls. Not the Warriors. I’d put the ‘86 Celtics up against ANYONE.
