These are the moments in the later seasons that I just value so much. Vala brings a part of Daniel out that we rarely got to see in the earlier seasons.
That, and she was so incredibly immature. But the last two years with the SGC and dealing with the Ori she did a lot of growing up, which has helped him feel more comfortable with her. The fact that Adria was a hell-bent zealot who wanted to enslave or murder everyone in the galaxy and yet Vala still felt maternal devotion to her. Vala would give her life if it brought Adria out of the darkness. That is such a strong statement to Vala's personality. There are too many who would give up and disown a child for trivial reasons. But Vala sticks to the good fight. Made me love her all the more.

Vala has a type: gentle men, with a cause, and some tragic in their lives. Tomin and Daniel aren't that different from each other. But Daniel managed to dodge the fanatism, even though one can see glimpses of it.
Jack's son killed himself, one of his best friends died in the third episode, Scara was taken as a host for three years; on a more personal note he got tortured to death by Ba'al a couple dozen times. Teal'c's father was brutally murdered by Cronus, his mother killed by an assassin at night, his wife died while he was on earth, Shaun'auc died an agonizing death from Tanith, and he's bearing the guilt from his actions as first prime to this day. Sam's boyfriends tend to die: Martouf died, lantash was saved but then died a year later, Narim died when Tollana was destroyed, Orlin died/ascended then came back only to become mentally disabled... Pete lived though, all he did was get shot and dumped a year later. Daniel has had his wife and ex-girlfriend taken as hosts and was only able to save one of them, the abydonians were all killed by Anubis (Oma helped them ascend but he still never got to see them again). They've all seen Janet and other SGC members die. Vala was a goa'uld host for a while and had to fend for herself after getting her body back, then was used by the Ori to sneak their superpowered henchman over to this plane of existence. Mitchell and Landry haven't had things too rough though.
@@Turk3YbAstEr I am sure both Mitchell and Landry have a lot of ghosts in the dark corners of their minds. Those two have served too long and been too dedicated not to experience some horrific events. If we got one more season as we should have, maybe one or two would have been revealed.
It's almost like there's very little emotional depth in this series as a whole, but when there is those episodes are the best and were what I used to watch it for. It got much worse in the series leading up to Daniel's death by radiation poisoning, but Daniel was the link to the source material and often the point of view character, so not only were the episodes terrible after that on an objectively bad level, but what the point in watching the protagonist is gone?
In some ways that makes a bit of sense, because a lot of Forever in a Day is about him working through it and coming to terms with it. So although it's only one episode, it does take place over a long time (or at least seems to). Not to mention that, as he says to someone 'actually I lost her a long time ago.' But I did feel that the first episodes of the series almost ignored the fact that this guy's wife has been abducted. He wasn't acting like it.
yeah, she ended up a loose end. they finally remembered about her, realized they had to do something with her, but wanted Daniel to continue as he had been so, kill her off. And structured in such a way that he could mostly get over it in a single episode.

She was trapped, she was wanted by the other Goa'uld for having the Harsesis, so it might have just been best to die then. But on her own terms, silently in line with Sha're's. Give her host one last moment to have with her beloved. Put him in a position so they could connect mentally, but also place him in danger so he would have to be defended. This feeling isn't just from that episode alone. When the Harsesis was born, Amaunet had every opportunity to betray Daniel to Apophis. But she didn't. Her and Sha're had been sharing thoughts and Sha're had begged to let Daniel go free. Maybe with more time, and less time in a sarcophagus, Amaunet would have discovered that friendship could have been had, and not having to dominate Sha're, or even relent to letting the Tokra remove her from Sha're. But time is never always in abundance. And consequences are very swift and on your heels.
I would put forth the theory that this is when Vala falls in love with Daniel. She was always attracted to him, but when she sees how much they have in common, how much his suffering as made him kind. She can’t help but fall for him.
Let's not forget how they first met when she walked up to him and was getting ready to straddle him and then I said wait wait and then she took off her own she took off her helmet and he saw the most beautiful woman ever created
this makes me so sad everytime. spend so much time looking for your wife. trying to find a way to save up, just to lose her. and then seeing someone else, in someways suffering like that aswell:-( and also so glad, because ive been looking youtube up and down to find this clip
Michael Søndergaard life is unfair most of the times thats why society is for, to level up the unbalanced aspects within and outside each person but when it fails,, like corruption or double standars, antisocials rise
Unspoken he has the exact same kind of relief the whole show they made a big point that the host see's all that happens and can't do anything. Apophis's host lived for thousands of years watching untold millions die by his hand (even if indirectly) Daniel probably takes some comfort in the fact sha're only suffered that for 2 years its still horrible but mentally a lot less painful to think about.
God, I know exactly how Daniel feels. I lost my wife after just over a year of marriage as well. We got married on the 24th of March 2018, & she passed away on the 6th of June 2019. That was 9 months ago now & there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about it.

This gets me thinking... how funny would it be if the host ascends while the goa'uld dies? Poetic justice. (Also, the host would have access to the collective goa'uld knowledge and therefore able to act on that level on the mortal plane)

God this made me remember just how dark Stargate SG1 is.

For once early in season 10 it was nice to see Daniel sympathize with Vala instead of shaming her.
