How many are watching in December 2024? You guys nailed it big up
Up, 21dec2024 'cause of Sofronio Vasquez singing the US national anthem at Utica Hockey team.
December 24, 2024. Merry Christmas!
Portugal - December 25, 2024. Merry Christmas!
I'd love to have a go at singing this with them or learn it with the Rock Choir.. Fabulous arrangement xx❤
2nd January 2025 😊
If you are one of the singers featured in this video, we thank you. Idk man, this just hits a vibe I cant explain. And brag about it bc yall killed it. Every one of you.
Absolutely stunning ❤
One of the characteristics that makes humans a most successful and remarkable species is our capacity for teamwork. There is perhaps no more sublime expression of this than a choir or orchestra.
Have you ever watched a colony of ants or a hive of bees?
wow that sounds so profound but is utter bollocks
@@jarodmorris4408 cute but they don't come close
@@SamuelJoseph962 I'm not sure that science backs up what you're saying. There are plenty of great videos on youtube that show how ants and bees work way better together than humans do.
@@ganndeber1621 Disgusting from you in South Africa we tolerate Jews and Moslems but this guy is a total prick. (Doos) as in Afrikaaans
Very well done and one of the best acapella versions on youtube.
One of the things I love about watching a choir is how they always look happy to be singing and performing with their friends. It’s infectious and a bit of envy-inducing too.
Me too
You nailed it! "They join because they like to sing - they stay because they make a friend." - Francisco Nunez.
Thanks for watching!
Singing in a choir is a very special bonding experience!
I would do almost anything for the chance to sing in a chorus or choir again. They don’t really do that in rural Colorado
You have no idea unless you've experienced the joy of singing in a choir.
It is said that this is taken from an African cattleman song. I was once sitting in a pickup waiting for my dad to get off work and drive him home. It was taking a lot longer than expected. I started singing for my own amusement with no one around. When I got to this song and started singing, all of the cattle that were in the field came to the fence and were staring at me. I guess someone found out a long time ago that cows have a musical preference as well.
I feel there is magic wasted with no herd to hear.
Well, You are not far from truth, the original song is called Mbumbe (1939) By Solomon Linda, who is a South African Male born in 1909. I know the Solomon Linda Family Personally.
in fact, this year, his statue will be unveiled in Zola Soweto.
COMPOSER IS A GENIUS
This lot isn't
Being a member of the Choir was one the most epic experiences in my life
gotta admit it should be a moment to be proud of...it great performance
Such a good version of an old song. Great to see young performers carry it off. Well done you. Be proud.
You were very lucky to be there :)
ya,ll rocked
tell us more, we want to hear what it was like, serious. It looked like it was so much fun.
I don't know about everyone else, but I love the guy grooving in the back with the violin... he epitomizes the way music brings people together in that one does not have to be "the star" but rather taking pleasure in enjoying and celebrating the performance of others
Ralf J. Bater, also others that read this comment, this is a true definition of all people working together. Would be nice to see more of this in the World today!
John, Australia.
I loved watching the conductor ❤
truth
That guy is having THE best time huh? 😁
100%
This is what REAL diversity looks like. Young people brought together who share a common interest whose voices combined are so much more powerful than any one of them alone. We need leaders, like this choral director, who can bring people together, not divide them.
Yes,yes,yes ❤❤❤
A great channeling of positive community energy.
Diversity on the same page, that is.
With a director and notes to sing in sync.
We need lead singers.
Diversity of everything, except thought
Sometimes, the urge to sing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is just a whim away...a whim away...a whim away...a whim away...
You... I see what you did and I love it!
I'm going to say that's incredibly funny,but it's just a Token gesture.
Especially in a concrete stairwell or parking garage!
@@BobCrabtree-ev4rzwell played!🤣
I see what you did there😊
In a very dark time, this gives me hope for the future.
This is the sight and the sound of the future. We’re gonna be okay. ☺️☺️☺️
The lion doesn't sleep forever. He eventually wakes up.
God help us
Everyone struggling with depression and sadness in general should join a choir.
Alas, you haven’t heard me try to sing. I can sing this because I can switch to falsetto, and not sing the notes that I can’t sing.
Cant beat music, to lift your soul. Xx
Wow what a lovely thing to say ❤❤
@@Elvis386 thank you, I love music. 🥰🥰
I loved the violinist enjoying himself
Yes! Easy to see that he "got lost" in the performance.
Lo más hermoso del mundo!! Desde Mexico
They looked like they were having so much fun sing that. I love it.
❤😊❤
pretty song - i've always liked it - well done Young People's Chorus - BRAVO!!
My eyes full of tears... beautiful young people! Thank you.
Your guy that knows music 🎵🎵🎶🎶. ?:. I told you not to make me sing.mm. ok.. They are a joy to me...❤❤❤
Most or all of these young ladies and men dont understand what this song means to us 'older' folks. I want to thank each and every one of them for this admirable remake, 'especially' the enthusiastic violinist(?) that may or may not have partaken in the making of this video, directly or indirectly. Cheers!
I graduated from U.S. high school in 1989. I was in the marching band (yes band members can sing.) We traveled by charter bus from Boise, Idaho to Reno, Nevada once a year. We were the Borah Lions. We sang this song as soon as we got out of the city and onto the highway.
So BEAUTIFUL, all these Wonderful People here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahhahhaa .. er.. how old are you?
63
I never understood this song but i always liked it.
The urge to sing this song has always just been a whim away!
Listen to the conductor 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤. 😮🎉🎉🎉🎉
THERE IS NO SOUND MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN A GROUP SINGING TOGETHER
An absolutely killer kitten..... She is adorable... Little black and white kitten that someone hurt... She has a coat and a hat..... So cute 😮😮😮😮. . On my lap.....❤❤❤❤❤

It's new year. BB My rescue kitten.. thanks you ❤️❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️🙏
I don't know why I got so emotional when they sang together... It's so beautiful...
My uncle was in the medical corps. He told me that when they arrived, they couldn’t go ashore as men who were injured were being brought faster than they could care for them.
❤ NYC. Haven't been there, but, you guys have voice 😮🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤✔️🎶🎤🎵
My rescue kitten is sleeping.. At last 😮❤❤❤❤. BB ❤❤
I love the video. Listened to it over and over. It is infectious. But as said before the guy is the happiest person there. I love his joy and happiness he shows. That is what this song, video, the conductor and the singers are great
If this doesn't make you smile? Pure Joy. Thank you!
Found you through HONY. Forever grateful for that. This is incredible. ❤️
Me too! :)

Same - and here come the tears! It's just beautiful.
SAME HERE :)
I grew up on this. Loving the togetherness! Thank you x
This song and particularly this version, it never fails to make me happy
This song was beautifully sung as a solo in season one, episode of Cranford (starring Dame Judy Dench among others). It’s on Amazon Prime now.
HONY brought me here. Beautiful unique power indeed. And how he invited the crowd to sing along. Inclusivity and encouragement all the way! Love from Indonesia 🧡

Same! What an amazing story behind this lovely choir!
Simply beautiful! Great job!
Barry’s song Weekend in New England makes me Remember a very special person that meant so much . WJS praying you are well, healthy, safe and in peace .
Love this to bits 🎉🎉🎉
I had to play this twice - the first time, I only listened, and only the second time, I was also able to watch them, to focus on the video, to see how their own tunes move them. If my comment reaches anybody, that will most likely be *after* you've already played the video, but if by any chance not - consider closing your eyes and *just listening* first. This music speaks directly to the heart.
What beautiful words, thank you so much!!
briliant
No matter what these kids accomplish in life as a fifty four year old man I can attest you will look back on this as one of your happiest moments.
Love this because when I was younger I did Summer Theater and my voice was so bad that they made me a Dancer. Something I never told anyone when I was in the Marine Corps! lol 😆
whos watching 2025?
Over the decades never tire of this.
Just realized my profile pic is a stately male lion in a lion park 2007, an hour north of Jo'burg, SA. :)
Me & you 😘
I am. 😃

Any time I need a song... XX ❤❤❤. Thank you. Amazing. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Wow first 20 seconds of this song i had a massive smile on my face then they started singing half way through my smile was unreal thank you

Awesome. This is what real music sounds like. More schools should challenge other schools...
My favorite version of this song. So beautiful.
What an awesome Conductor/Leader/Teacher !! Job well done !!!
Ich Thomas ,ich sollte versuchen mich jetzt nicht mehr einzumüschen ,ihr Menschen sollte wissen, das ich Thomas nur so stark bin wie ihr mich macht 😮, Freiheit für die Weibchen
Such a beautiful song
This is very cool 😎 I have it on my play list.
My voice was so bad in Summer Theater they made me a dancer!
Something i never told anyone when I was in the Marine Corps! lol 😆

Just crying with the pure joy of the song, music, singers... 💞💞💞💞
So proud of .. Make . me. Sing ❤
And here we are 😮. Amazing. ❤❤😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉
Such a rare talent
I'm old enough to remember this song in the early 60's on th Ed Sulivan Show and I sang along it is infectious!!!
Damn ! This is soooo incredible, even the violin thief forgot what he was doing and got swept up in the moment.
This is a conductor and choir at the top of their game.
It's simply poetry in motion. They make something that's got to be seriously hard to do look so effortless and amazing..
I totally love it...
It’s not hard if you have a talent for music , I don’t read notes , so I sing and play the piano by ear
Lemme tell you guys , I don't know if it's a coincidence but this is the best choir I've heard❤❤❤❤❤❤ . Love from Nairobi Kenya
Love from belfast
Choreography that timed with that number of live dancers is Hollywood grade!
MAGNIFIQUE
I love watching younger people having so much fun at a song probably older than them, especially how diverse it is.
Opino que es la versión más auténtica y bella cantada por no africanos.. sin la intervención de la persona que hace de animador, sería sencillamente perfecta e insuperable... Saludos desde Mendoza Argentina
That song just never seems to get old. Great performance!
Right???!!!!!
Ive known this song for 40 (?) years. Its only now i find out its not "wimbaway" but wimoway. Lol. i still cant unhear the "b" though. Apparently my ears are to old now to be corrected.
Love Listen to the voice...
I would love to have that man direct my choir. Nice job kids.
This is awesome.
This song got me thru a very difficult time. And I see that it helped others, too. Thank you, Wilson-Phillips!!
Fantastic!
These boys and girls seem to be having a lot of fun while singing this melodious song , your hardwork really pays off ! You all have lots of potential and you have a very unique power in your singing."
Keep up the good work everyone 👏
Glorious. 👍👍👍👍
Awesome !
Love the guy with the violin having a great time grooving to the music. The conductor is outstanding and full of energy. His leadership brings all the elements together and the musicians are having a fun performing. Hope to see more from the Young People's Chorus of NYC.
Listen.. The Voices have a perfect Amazing Voices ❣️
What a fantastic, talented group of young people! Such a joy to see & listen to. You can tell how much their teacher/conductor loves what he does
Thank you!!
This is so beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amazing 😮❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love your version ❤❤❤
These people are amazing. In some ways I like this better than the original.
A group singing a song a group of people, no matter age, physical or mentally disabilities, race religion, or any views..... For that moment in this dance we call life we are one. In a rather dark world one voice one together shines brighter then any star in the sky.
i couldnt help it,... i was smiling the whole time this was playing! 😁😁🤗🤗💖💖💖💖😁😁😊😊👍👍
I love this song it’s my favorite song ever
Fabulous! It made my spirit soar.
Fantastic performance! When I was in college, 40+ years ago, a professor offered extra credit on the final for anybody who could name the band who sang "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." (FYI, it was The Tokens.). Since this was an economics course, the first clue was that the band name was a "substitute for money." He kept offering additional clues, but eventually I was the only person to answer correctly. Fast forward a few decades, and my daughter had a high school teacher who liked to quiz the kids on "old" music. He was consistently amazed that, in 2018, my 16-year old daughter was familiar with Jim Croce, Johnny Cash, The Who, etc. Just yesterday, my (now adult) daughter was visiting, and her car was blocking me in, so I borrowed her car to run to the grocery store. As soon as I started her car, The Talking Heads were blasting And She Was from her stereo; I was listening to that music when I was her age...40+ years ago! I try to keep up with current music, but I still prefer my Dad's music from the 40s and 50s, while my daughter prefers my music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Music is truly timeless!
HONY brought me here. You’re all fantastic and keep making magic and fun!
I was fortunate to experience Glenn Close at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles mid-1990s as Norma Desmond, I was blown away by her performance.
I envy everyone, at every performance, at every theatre they go too! A big fan of Glenn Close. Didn't see her live performance; but saw the broadcast. And, of course, she was magnificent.🤩
The best version of the lion sleep tonight i' ve ever hear thank you and congratulations to you all ur are amazing ❤❤❤
