As an ex, advertising / fashion photographer in the ‘70 s and 80 s, using a Hasselblad 500c then m, thanks for the magic memories of the sound of that sheath being pulled out of the magazine and then that beautiful clunk of the shutter, pure bliss. Thanks Paul.
Awesome video as usual Paul, for me the clear winner is at 5:38 with the 50mm, the separation between the tree and Islands on the horizon and use of negative space make's this a wee masterpiece Imho. Top job mate.
Absolutely love these photographs! They're all beautiful; I especially love the ones with the 50mm that still manage to feel simple/minimalist. And the one with the dead tree trunk is beautifully seen. Thank you for sharing!
Personally I like to pull this film one stop. I find that to suit my style of shooting. Your channel is absolutely amazing. Thank you for making this content.
Watching your videos is a very therapeutic thing to do in the morning while sipping on some tea. Those photos you made here are phenomenal! Great work and thanks for sharing it.
hello Paul, yes beautifully, my sincere compliments. Thank you for inspiring us with your wonderful Hasselblad 500C / M series. From one photographer to another photographer congratulations and hug. elton rock
You all probably dont give a shit but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
@Otto Tobias I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
The Taupo Tree! it you get there early enough the Wanaka, it much better including without it's lower right (my right branch gone) the Wanaka tree was the first! remember that Paul! the mountains and the light! amazing! Thanks for sharing!
I love the 120 Pan F film. Man, if you scan that 6x6 negative with a high res scanner, the resolution will be insane. The IQ knocks the socks off the vast majority of modern digital cameras.
The photo with the remains of the tree in the foreground, and the tree out in the lake plus the swan is stunning. I've got some of this film in my fridge. I've been waiting for the right time to use it . You've inspired me :-) 👍
Super nice photos, magic place indeed! That tree is just amazing looking. Perfect fit for that film and camera combination. You'll love the 50mm, it's one of my all time favourite lenses. I've had one for a couple of years, and I'm definitely never selling that one!
i use the same black 50mm T* lens and it is the only lens i have and need on my hasselblad love it so much. Enjoying your videos and loving the photography, they are making me want to leave the city behind.
Beautiful images, Paul. Pan F is one of my favourite films, though I have only used it as 35mm on my M6 for portraits. Beautiful grain. I have a 120 roll waiting for me in the fridge and this episode has inspired me to shoot some landscapes with it.
Some of your best work I reckon. Drum scanned and gallery sized would make for a great exhibition and fine art sales. A lovely counterpoint to the social documentary stuff you've done.
You may have found a sweet spot. Location, vision, camera, film, all combining to make some of your very best images. Thank you for sharing these beautiful photographs. I agree with David Cordner; there is a tip of the hat to Michael Kenna in there.
Very very great place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Only one apreciation:Inst posible to put the the camera more to the left and take a foreground of the three washer, leaving the three between the island and the cape?, Other theme.Ive two rolls of the Ilford 50 in the fridge ,waiting better ligths, how many up and down exposition support the fillm?,or you might to do a perfect shot?,and the reciprocity?
Yet another interesting, informative and relaxing video to watch Paul. I love the photos. I sometimes shoot Pan F in 35mm and love the absence of visible grain in smaller prints. I guess the sharpness in medium format must be amazing! Kind regards.
Hey Paul. Lovely video mate, and love the simplicity of these frames. Awesome work and nice to see you out and about enjoying Taupo. I returned from the south Island tonight and will give myself a few days off but we will try and catch up soon! PS, this is a really cool tree... and te fact that you have it to yourself! = ) Regards Ewan
Terrific photos Paul, love the long exposures with the 50mm and I especially like the ones with the150mm, I must save up for one with my Hasselblad, though increasingly hard to come by, especially one of the earlier Silver 150 mm Sonnar C’s in good condition, like you have
Yet another great great video, and it's great to see that you're enjoying the Taupo area and the Blad. I miss using the 500 cm and those wonderful Carl Zeiss lenses. What's next ... 4×5 ?
I had a feeling the 150 would find a wider friend sooner or later! As always very nicely done, love the aesthetic of the Ilford films/long exposures of the tree in the lake, especially the rippled reflections. Sorry to hear about the lens not surviving it’s first swimming lesson, but the camera did📸. Hope the socks were waterproof, I probably would have taken them off (barefoot probably works better if it’s warm, said the Florida man), nice little vacation spot you’ve found there!
Really nice Paul.. Would love to explore out there with me 5x4" or even my 12x20. I'm a sucker for film, yes. Always a joy to see others talking about and using it. I don't care much for roll film since I have a time processing it as apposed to sheet. Tempting though since i'd more then likely opped for the Hassy beauty. Cheers
Lovely tree and location with good results. I'm 2 years late but I find the tree position against the dark island in the background a bit strange it's to one side. My immediate thought was you'd centre it a bit more or have the darker isle left of the tree and the darker hill on the right but what would I know 🙂 Also love the shot with the tree stump and swan!
Beautiful outstanding Compositions Paul, with calm lovely results, for all images you shot that day. Also glad you got a hold of the Distagon 50 :) A suggestion if I may Paul? Use the pre-release button (to get the mirror up) before taking your shot some sec after, when using long exposure :)
Could you please advise your dev process details with Pan F 50 + Rodinal as it would help me to take my next step on a kind of rabbit-hole mission in testing a series of films to find a way to get nice and fine grain with my 6x6 folding cameras. I would like to switch to Rodinal due to shelf life amd economical reasons since Ilfosol deteriorates too quickly and I waste too much. Thank you.
Do you shoot pan F at box speed of 50asa? Sometimes I've had thin results and always go back to fp4. I do however use many cameras so perhaps shutters are not that accurate. I shot a roll of fomapan with a camera I had not used before. Took a big chance but I was blown away with the results. Every exposure bang on. I don't shoot fomapan 100 at box speed but at around 50asa and I'm using a tripod and very long exposures so speed does not matter for me.
Really beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing them. Your long shots seem to be really long exposures. Are you using a neutral density filter and if so which one?
Pan F is a contrasty emulsion with a short straight section and abrupt toe and shoulder in its spectral response curve. The best way to deal with it is to rate it @ 25 or 32 and use a compensating developer to retain as much information on the negs as possible. The contrast can then be adjusted during the printing or scanning stage. Great photography BTW.
Watching all of your videos yet again ... I love them everytime.

Great Photography! very nice video! Thanks!
Stunning shots m8! This IS how black and white works!! Love em!
Hi Paul, the biggest compliment I can pay to these images is that more than one has a very Michael Kenna look to them.
Thanks David
Absolutely love these photographs! They're all beautiful; I especially love the ones with the 50mm that still manage to feel simple/minimalist. And the one with the dead tree trunk is beautifully seen. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Sean, really appreciate that
I keep coming back to this video, Paul. Absolutely wonderful.
Thank you
You have shown just how Beautiful your part of the world is. You'll be in photography textbooks in the future. You're that good.
Thanks for that Anthony
I did enjoy that immensely, as I have all your hard work, and it's paired so perfectly with the music. Thank you Paul, very much.
Thanks Wade
Wonderful compositions! I like pan f!
Personally I like to pull this film one stop. I find that to suit my style of shooting. Your channel is absolutely amazing. Thank you for making this content.
Absolutely stunning photographs 😮
Wow what stunning photos Paul. I think you're gonna cause a line up in front of this tree now! haha. Can't wait for prints to be available.
What a beautiful and peaceful place. I hope to visit New Zeland some day. Nice job, man. Keep on, keep safe

Paul , Great work. I really enjoyed the video
I just absolutely love the centered tree which mimics a digital binary reflection. Fantastic. What a great juxtaposition.

The simplicity of the second photo and the lovely details of the grasses on the tree in the fifth photo are very nice.

GREAT! I enjoy the 50mm Distagon on the 500 C/M as well as the 150mm Sonar. Keep up the good work!
I really like the photo at 5:25, I like the shape of the tree's reflection in the water and its tones.
Magical pictures!!!
Art at it's finest, stunning images you have produced my friend!

What a beautiful setting, indeed! Glorious!
Enjoying your new series with the Hasselblad. Keep it up.

Another fine set of images. You genuinely are enjoying medium format.
Also good to see you have GAS just like every other photographer I know.
Yep more GAS than most unfortunately
@@PaulCSmithPhotographer Lol. At least you are putting it to good use. So pretty sure your accountant won't be giving you earache.

Beautiful photos and a great new lens for your Hasselblad! I love that wide angle for landscape on medium format. And great compositions, too!
Awesome Paul

Thanks Ewan, really looking forward to catching up, talk soon!
Great photos! Particularly that last one with the dark tree on the left and the light grey mountains in the back.
Really enjoyed those images, those ducks 🦆 added that extra element. What a serene scene

That 150 is great, shot film yesterday and left it at home and kicked myself.
Let me be the first to congratulate you on 10k subscribers! It’s coming.
Yea thanks mate
I just love a Hasselblad 500 I regret I sold mine. But will soon buy one again.
Possibly for me your nicest flight of pics. The big Hasselblad is a thing of great desire
Cheers Stephen
Wonderful work again. There are a couple of these I'd buy prints of if they were put up for sale.
Yet another great great video, and it's great to see that you're enjoying the Taupo area and the Blad. I miss using the 500 cm and those wonderful Carl Zeiss lenses.
What's next ... 4×5 ?
Maybe a darkroom lol
Those little canons are great. I still use my 100d and it takes great photos and videos especially in daylight.
Did you use an ND Filter and how did you meter the scenes. I didn't see that.
Lovely graphical images Paul. Good to see you have a second lens.
Nice video. You should show how you meter the light.
Good film😀

amazing pictures! but definitely recommend using the mirror lock up button for those long exposures so you do not get any camera shake!
Yep will be on to that next time
suggest you try the swc😊
Dont tempt me haha
Do you shoot pan F at box speed of 50asa? Sometimes I've had thin results and always go back to fp4. I do however use many cameras so perhaps shutters are not that accurate. Been a while since I shot Pan f but usually at 100
I have the 500cm with the 80mm f2.8. At those longer distances, are you just setting it to infinite focus?
Hi Lance yea pretty much
Really beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing them. Your long shots seem to be really long exposures. Are you using a neutral density filter and if so which one?
Yep, ND I used an old Hoya 9 stop on this stuff

Hi Seth, this will be my first summer in the Taupo region, but it's generally quite hot here I believe and busy with tourists.
Love pan 50 .
