San Diego local here. Annual passholder The zoo is where I like to go to clear my head. 3-5 hours at a time and frequent visits are one needs to practice to get a chance of seeing the animals really active.
Best zoo tour I've seen on UA-cam, no attention seeking, only great footage and views, thank you.

QUICK TIP FOR ANYONE HOPING TO SEE PANDAS AT THE SAN DIEGO ZOO!
The San Diego Zoo no longer has pandas due to the fact that the ones they had were rented to them by China for the purpose of breeding/conservation. Since the Zoo’s lease with China expired a year or two ago, all the pandas at the Zoo have been moved either to other Zoos or transported back to China.
I wish I’d had the chance to go while they were still there

Great zoo great tour
Not to be a stickler, but the snake you said was a Green Mamba was in fact a Gaboon Viper. It has the largest fangs of all venomous snakes. Cheers!

I’d love to see a big endangered species carousel placed inside the San Diego Zoo just like the wildlife carousel that was featured at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and the big and newish endangered species carousel that was recently added at the San Antonio Zoo! The animals featured on the new endangered species carousel include gorillas, lions, tigers, pandas, elephants, and other animals!

There’s no charge. It is included for free.
There are also polar bear, birds of prey, and an insect exhibit which wasn't shown in this video, but great video nonetheless!
Thanks Jason you’re correct! I’m working on a new video about the zoo with video of the animals up close . I finally saw the polar bears and they are much larger than I expected. The insect exhibit at the Wildlife Explorers Basecamp is also very informative.

the diamond back and timber rattlers can be found in my yard sometimes here in corpus christi texas. . neighbor killed a 6 footer near their porch not to long ago.
Do you recommend any of the additional tours / animal experiences you can pay extra for? We are coming from New Zealand this December and I would love to add something special for my two teen sons to do as an added fun experience .

There are a number of behind the scenes tours to choose from ranging from a short personally guided tour to a full day. Each experience focuses on specific animals from ,cats to bears, giraffes, apes. The cart tours cover a wider view of the park but with less animal interaction. All tours are listed in the San Diego Zoo site 🙂
The weather here in San Diego in December is usually sunny with temperatures between 50-60 Fahrenheit. I hope that helps!

How much time should one expect spending to see the whole San Diego zoo?
These are just estimates. If you take the buses around the park you can see most of the park in a 2-3 hours. If you’d like to take time and walk around as I did it is about 6 or 7 hours.

That great your zoo is free! San Diego Zoo can be pricey for individual tickets but the yearly membership is a decent value if you visit a few times.

Yes I believe I’ve seen them close to the Polar Bear exhibits.
They have capybaras. They're in the Elephant Odyssey exhibit.

Yes I recommend visiting the polar bear exhibit during the trainer talks. They feed the bears and they come right up to the glass/viewing area.
Can you just see cats without doing the special tour?
Yes you can see all the cats away from the tours. I believe the tours offer up close interaction with some cats.
