It's hilarious to me that the psychotic murderer later turned into a cute(ish) heartwarming(also ish) character meanwhile everyone else who was pretty harmless at the beginning turned into absolute maniacs, like his parents
Stewie stopping being evil, and just being a normal baby with a huge intellect was the best thing the show ever did. Him, and Brian, should always be what they are now, a baby and a dog, that are smarter than the rest of the family, but still a baby and a dog
@@Camcavs that is not a bad thing. The idea of Stewie being evil was getting stale and boring, and honestly it doesn't fit the show itself. There is a reason for Rick, Cartman and Roger to be more chaotic and dangerous than stewie, because it fits the story and the characters. Having a evil baby in a cartoon, that embraced the idea they are a TV show, doesn't fit as well
I didn't watch Family Guy before because of Stewie's character. The show was funny itself but a baby being that evil and sadistic the entire series with the plot written for other characters just seems kinda off. As if they didn't blend well, at least for me. But since Stewie just being, well Stewie, I couldn't stop watching Family Guy
not really its actually the opposite, he had intelligent dialog and his plots were pretty funny. current stewie just says the gayest stuff that makes me want to bloop him me and my mother cant stand modern stewie we always complain when he opens his mouth.
Stewie and Brian have to be one of my favourite cartoon duos, considering the show has been on the air for over 20 years, their friendship never seems to go stale 🙏🏼☺️
@@FroztYcle4737 I assume the writers have kept him the same age cause babys grow quite quick within their first year of development so they probably didnt want to change his character too much in terms of growth. Stewie's grown a lot since his early conception, but still keeps his killer edge! While he keeps killing Louis on the back burner, he still deals with her with some contempt! Great video Lydia! This was well worth the wait and always a joy to watch! Thank you! 😂
Stewie definitely has grown so much (well in 1 year of 21 parts) the recent episodes trying him with other characters like Quagmire was great too. I think stewie goes with everyone.. be it Chris, Brian, Peter, Lois, Quagmire.. but never seen him much with Meg (although the joke about Meg being his real mother is fun to think about). This one character has immense potential and I hope Family guy captures it well
@@mythicbadger9855 not the same kind of connect though. She got kidnapped, Stewie was with brian. she saved him, brian n Stewie got her a date with Kevin. The Santa one had Stewie as a prop for Meg 😂
Stewie Griffin went from Evil Baby Genius with a one-track mind for world domination, to a chaotic neutral toddler with SERIOUS violent tendencies & a comedic personality.
one thing that was not talked about is his friend for an episode Stewie was a normal baby (who did not want to kill his mom) because of Hudson Hudson brought out a bright side of Stewie that we never see again even after that episode, the lesson he learned stayed with him in the rest of the series
What's funny is even since some older episodes Stewie had been displaying some of his modern personality. Really all that changed is he's more family-oriented but he just isn't evil anymore.
Here's an idea for an Family Guy video. The Devolution of Peter Griffin. How he when from a not so good and incompetence but still lovely and caring father and husband to a massive idiot who's extremely selfish, mean-spirited, lazy and non-caring person who give or care little for his family and have openly admitted to not even liking his own kids.
To be fair, that particular shift wasn't a massive leap from Peter's original characterization nor did it take long for that shift to happen. Stewie's changes were pretty much completely destroying Stewie's original characterization but Peter's changes weren't all that drastic from how he originally was.
I agree with you about Peter man, they have run the Meg-bashing into the ground in particular, although she’s gotten some pretty cool moments in recent seasons. Lois has become almost as much of a piece of shit as Peter. It’s good satire on how social media can ruin people. Sometimes I wish they hadn’t brought Family Guy back in 05, or just did the movie and left it at that. The new seasons have had some hilarious moments don’t get me wrong, but 99-02 family guy was comedy gold.
@@jamesbowers7343 99 to O2 was great, but I feel like it still had a few more great seasons after that also. I feel like it’s starting to really go downhill around 2009-2010. That’s just my opinion though,
Love the interactions between Stevie and Brian. It was interesting in a recent episode, I think the Halloween one where Quagmire and Stevie actually bonded a little bit. Lydia loves timelines and I love Lydia’s timelines 💕💐
Stewie's character development was honestly amazing over these 23 years, its heartwarming how he has grown to hate Lois less. Sure he may insult her once in a while but in season 19 episode 1 it shows he loves Lois as his mother but doesn't show it
Stewie has always been my favourite character…even when he was evil, there would still be those moments where his baby side kicks in, like asking for uranium for Christmas, probably for some evil plan, and then ask for chutes and ladders as well as a ball in the same list
No offense but I knew this from the start so this video didn't really need to come but you know this is the best change in family guy stewie has more character development than being a generic comedic villain
I actually love the new stewie , hes genuinely the best character in the entire show wnd whenever i know its gonna be a stewie centered episode, its gonna be a treat !!
I remember as a kid watching family Guy and I can totally remember seeing Stewie doing all these evil plotting things and it didn't settle well with me. I love this character, but the evil stick was not something I liked later down the road when they changed his character. I love Stewie more and more and I love his character more today. And I think it was true that Seth MacFarland decided to make Stewie gay because the reason why Stewie was evil in the first place cuz he wanted to come out as gay. Also Brian is also the reason why Stewie became a very kind person later down the road because they had the row two episodes in Stewie and Brian is a very good duo.
Evil Stewie Griffin is what makes the first few seasons of Family Guy so great. His desire for world domination and drive to kill Lois (who wasn't one of the worst characters back then) was always entertaining and just the right kind of dark humor. I'm glad he hasn't completely given up on his evil ways because my favorite part of And Then There Were Fewer is Stewie saving Lois life only because he wants to kill her himself, adding a bit of nostalgia. While I do like the fact he has more personality now, I think who Stewie currently is and who he was should be able to coexist.
My own working theory on this shift comes down to POV. The more cartoony fun-spirited sitcom parody years early on are from Peter's perspective, and the period around 5-7 where it's a little more grounded is TBD (maybe Lois?). S8 on, however, leans into pretty much everyone else being a jerk and Stewie being "less evil," which is why I think the series from that point is from Stewie's POV.
I like to look at it this way. Stewie is a baby. So maybe he is just maturing and growing a heart as most do when they grow up. I think it was a good move to have him start evil and became good later.
I love old family guy episode’s. The newer episodes aren’t usually that good. Stewies always been my favorite character and still keeps the show going.

Also surprise surprise the question in the title wasn’t answered, so here, I’ll answer it. The reason for stewie griffins change was because Seth MacFarlene stated that he felt the whole evil genius thing was a little outdated and a bit too 1990s, and that the show would’ve been on “it’s last legs” if they had kept going with it.
While the simulation is a semi cop-out, I consider it canon (as much as can be canon in a show like this) that Stewie both got out his murderous rage and saw how fruitless it was, leading to him forgoing that life goal and letting him see Lois as a mother in his life. It’s also quite possible that as a baby he doesn’t even fully remember *why* he wanted her dead in the first place.
