  • Carlos was born in Cuba and his family emigrated to Canada when he was only one year old. He took up the harmonica as a teenager, but to say that Carlos del Junco just plays harmonica is a bit like saying Jimi Hendrix just played guitar. Though he began with the blues, his fascination with other musical forms such as jazz, Latin and reggae soon led him to explore these fields as well. Inspired by the pioneering work of Howard Levy, Carlos learned to overblow on the diatonic Golden Melody harmonica and won first prize at the 1993 World Harmonica Championships in both diatonic blues and jazz categories. He was later awarded a Canadian government grant to study with Howard for 6 months in Chicago. For many years now he has seamlessly integrated all these elements into his own unmistakeable fusion which can be heard to great advantage on his 2011 release "Mongrel Mash", his 8th CD and essential listening for lovers of high-end contemporary harmonica playing.

I just discovered you and am blown away. Unbelievable. Bought the album Just Your Fool and am currently obsessed with figuring out 44. (Thank you Pandora for the introduction. I was looking for a live performance for Forty Four but couldn't find one. Grrrr. Had to see how your are getting those sounds. Will be keeping my head to the speakers, but sure wish I could see it played. Love It!

Is that an ElectroVoice microphone of some sort? Looks like either a 635A or an RE-10.

Hey Goldbugg I shot a really nice video of this guy and he bitch slapped me about artistic creativity and then proceeded to tell me to stop ripping him off and on and on. I have a couple of his CD's and have seen him several times, but for some reason he decided he didn't like it, so I pulled the video and then asked him to remove all the others homemade video from fans, of Carlos. Secondly I have only posted one negative thing about it and then left it alone The End!

I don't really get these comments. You try to play what he's doing. G'head on, fool.

Well how is this... This guy just does not appreciate his fans! And personly - l have seen Carlos and although he's been playing all his life, a good portion was obviously wasted time!
