Excellent tutorial, especially for people who don't have a sewing machine. I totally understand this is not your message; I just hope people don't misinterpret that if a cotton mask is all they have that they should 'not' wear a mask. Most of us don't need an N-95 mask, since we're not working in hospitals in COVID wards. Any mask is better than no mask--reducing our exposure to COVID particles by any percentage is a good thing. Obviously a good mask like yours is better, but any mask IS better than no mask. (Of course, we should be avoiding crowds, keeping a 2m distance, etc. and using masks as an add-on safety measure.) Having done minor adjustments to mask patterns I've found online, which took me a ton of time, I can't imagine the weeks of hours you must have spent on this. Thank you for your work.
Made a couple of masks using instructions from the 'other' video. Easy peasy. Had to sew mine; have sewing machine but no iron. Who irons anymore today? Hardest step was printing out the pattern. LOL.
Thank you for making this video. Watching it gave me some ideas that I might try. I'm going to try using fabric spray glue to lightly spray the pieces together (light spray should also be breathable, I hope) to hold in place instead of using hot iron I think I'll try some contrasting bias binding around seems and hot glued (or even super glued edges). Bias binding could also cover the flexible nose piece. Template looks great, so thanks for all your hard work.
To attach the elastic to the mask, use CA glue (superglue) it penetrates the fabric and the elastic. I used it to modify a shop bought mask and 12 weeks on, its still going strong.
sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Cristian Pedro thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

Heat welding with an iron looks like it tales a lot longer than sewing, but it does eliminate the holes made by the needle. I guess it's a trade-off on the side of additional safety. (To keep the Carona virus bugs out your lungs) Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I believe HEPA vacuum filters are made with the same material, polypropylene. The difference is probably in the density. There is also a confusing difference between "HEPA-type" and "true-HEPA." HEPA-type means it filters 99% of particles 2 microns or larger. True-HEPA has to meet a more rigorous standard of filtering out at least 99.97% of 0.3 micron particles. The other consideration in addition to filtration is the pressure drop (i.e. breathability). A vacuum filter might have a much larger pressure drop, making it potentially uncomfortable to breath for some people. But that is mainly a consideration for comfort, granted the person does not have a breathing medical condition. Bottom-line: it's probably safe, but considerations such as the potential filtration efficiency and breathability might want to be considered.
Do you have any ideas for masks with clear windows for teachers? I like the idea but I need a clear window so my students can see how to form letters properly. My plan is to combine your idea with the clear face mask. Thank you for any ideas.
All I have heard back is someone has fit tested it in a hospital which it passed. They had a layer of melt blown or merv16 in it too though. But I think the shape, seal, nose bridge etc are all a solid design. Materials will vary though I imagine.
I got to test this fabric and got readings around 42-56% effective at the 300nm mark with random indoor dust and a simpel blower fan. I tested Numatic Hepaflo vacuumcleaner bags with the same setup and got 90-92% at the same particle size. Tightwowen cotton bedlinen was around 30% effective and very hard to breath through. But i guess the internet now had enough testing og materials and mask shortages is not bad anymore?
Personally, I liked all those extra inclusions. All were important and I learned what not to do as well as what to look out for eg.. Fumes, extractions, hovercraft etc lol Here's the thing. If you didn't include all those, you would prob get bogged down with a lot more stupid questions like,..... Can I use this, or can I use that, or can I do this instead of xyz.... and so on. So yes, your process was interesting to include.
I was curious about superglue as well, since it can melt/bond plastic, but it has cancer-causing fumes when wet. I don't know if they're still there when it's dry but it's not worth the risk. Maybe just use hot glue & press it hard with scrap metal to seal the mask better, or roll the edge & then sew (to make a better seal).
Perhaps down the road, you'll give us a sense of how the response to your various videos has affected you. I imagine you got zapped by UA-cam's naughty algorithms too, yes?

Hey thanks heaps for the comment. All the best :-)
It also makes the pattern of a cute butterfly!
A butterfly that filters as it flys
It's the polypropylene fibers that have the slight static charge. True medical one piece N95's are pressed (compacted) non woven polypropylene fibers.

Watching this was actually relaxing. A real craft tutorial pace and very well done! Thank you! (Also noticed that you appear left-side dominant.)

There better be a pants ironing video next week!
I soooo want to hear the commentary for that.
Is it possible to use a wood burning tool instead of an iron to seal the seams? Or would it be too hot and melt the material?
I enjoyed your detailed video! I know I won't make my own tools, but it was fun to watch. Thanks.
haha thanks good to hear feedback. I guess sometimes seeing how someone does something can inspire a solution to something else completely different.
Can you use a solder iron instead of a domestic iron? The iron looks a bit dangerous to use so near to your fingers. Thank you. B uk

I guess the first complex video just put this on my to do list. I will give it a try this time. 😃
I also scaled up the pattern by one cm coz I intend to use the pattern to sew a cloth fabric face mask
Really cool stuff man
thanks mate. cheers
We better get that vid about ironing pants next week, I have always wondered how it is done. 😂
Can you show is how to get your camera to take the burst photo I have fz80 with 4k burst and I was wondering how you did it to take photos when it's detected motion
i have all these tools, let's get to crafting!
Lovely video. Can you put these in the washer, if not is there way to clean them after each use? Love your channel :)
So, does this destroy your iron for clothing purposes or does the plastic come off easily when it cools off?
If normal Teflon iron it comes of easy. Especially when reheating it from cold.
Life saver
how much frabic should you buy in terms of meters ? seams like a really good method , gonna try with a duck bill design though
Thought, does the tip of the glue gun get hot enough to use it to make the seal instead of an iron?
Nope, don't think so
What - no accidental hovercraft?! 😂
Can you use superglue?
Omg how did you not burn your fingers? Nice to see you survived the storm.
haha yeah I know right, looking back at the video it was close

from watching other videos, you have to be careful using vacuum bags; some of those contain glass fibres.
where is the pattern for the N95 mask?
Do you think these are reusable?
Yeah it's washable
Good to know. Warm water wash in a garment bag (or pillow case) with no-heat drying sounds good, maybe even line dry it.

HAS ANYONE MADE A LASER PARTICLE COUNTER TEST AT THE 300NANOMETER MARK OF THIS CONCEPT? :)

Maybe use a flat iron
Why don't you use just hot glue instead of the iron, or even better, superglue?
he uses hot glue as an option in his other video

Don't touch it!!! (slap!)
I accidently made the experience, that hot glue is melting in the waschingmachine :(
bugger I haven't had this but we only do a warm wash usually rather than hot. Hot glue is a weakness in this design but can be substituted.
I'm guessing you covered up the word Sunbeam on your iron because those corporate bar stools wouldn't sponsor this video. btw you did a horrible job covering up the word Sunbeam.
I'm not sure I'm comfortable breathing through all these materials. I'm pretty sure there's some undesirable fibres there.
Yeah that is it. There is mask specific PP available. Hot wire cutting this stuff I didn't detect any other fibre (of a higher melting point anyway)
Fibreglass would be very apparent very quickly on the hotwire
And you have a BRA!!!!
