Some of us older folks remember transparency sheets. I use them for crafts, but I believe they are still available in office supply stores. If anyone still has kids or grandchildren with the supplies for the rubber band bracelets that were so popular several years ago, they could do for the elastic band. The foam could be the hardest thing to get hold of. I will be searching through craft supplies, moving supplies (still unpacking!), and pillows. Even upholstery foam can be cut if you don’t need that cushions any more. God bless you for getting me started!

Thank you doctor for taking the time to instruct us. I feel sorry for all the people that is in the front line with no enough protection. God Bless all of you, guys. Thank you for being there in difficult times.
Thank you for posting this! Great idea! I'm not a health professional, but I have underlined health issues so I'm more at risk and the regular face masks aren't 100% for keeping the covid virus out, so this face shield provides extra protection. Thank you for your service, and thank you for taking care of sick people. Be safe!❤
You’re welcome. If you are not a health professional, there are some nice DIY Faceshields which use 2 liter bottles or sheet protectors which are less expensive. It costs about $100 in supplies to make 110 face shields, but the plan was to make them in bulk. The design of this face shield to try to match the size and features of a hospital approved face shield. instagram.com/p/B_So5tND_G-/? Hospitals have rules and regulations, so I worried if the faceshield is green or uses colorful fabric trim, that everyone would notice that they are not using a hospital approved face shield. These look the same so, if they are wearing it in the hospital, no one will notice that these aren’t the real thing. Hope that makes sense.
Very good Dr. George. Very much needed to protect the people. Very creative. God be with all who works in the medical field. Thank you so much for sharing your creations.
I reiterate: Dr. Yang - you are a very creative man. I spent years studying Architecture/Italian Design in NYC & in Italy. What you are doing is creating from your imagination. People can also get a hat display form and drape material over it to design their own shaped mask. I have experimented with all kinds of materials, designing several shapes. You can even drape fabric on your face (using yourself like a mannequin). People comment on my colorful masks. I suggest to your audience, that if one has DIY 3M goggles, they protect the eyes and hold up the mask. 🌹🤓🇺🇸🇬🇧
Thank you so much for taking the time to teach the world how they can be proactive in stopping the virus from spreading and protect themselves at the same time. You are one of the ANGELS saving lives. G-D Bless you and stay safe.
Dr. Yang “Resourceful” is what we need to be. Good job! I am a sewist and have been making cloth masks for family members. I discovered Halyard H600 it took some time to get all the items together, some were out of stock etc. Downloaded that pattern and now I am ready to make these masks. I have worked In the health care field in-hospital and out-EMS. I am older now. So I stay home. If there is anything I can do to help I would be grateful to know. As I fear a second wave may be coming of this pandemic. This is posted at the end of May. Thank you Dr. (McGyver) Yang.
thank you so much Dr. Yang. I felt your heart and compassion thru out the video. yes, your voice is calming. Im a nurse too. Will try that omega face mask. God bless. Stay safe.
It’s okay. I appreciate your comment. I think everything will be okay. Why? In New York, our curve flattened, people stayed home, 50-70% are wearing masks. Many people died, but new cases are going down less hospitalizations. Everyone who needed a ventilator got one. Many US manufacturers have stepped up to make these face shields locally. instagram.com/p/B-OW2FFjI0j/?igshid=121esnsb9zte5 MIT a famous engineering school here developed a one piece laser cut face shield which they can make and ship super quickly. instagram.com/p/B-cHEj3jqf2/?igshid=1o8hn7dkfdoeb I just wanted to show my fellow healthcare workers an easy way to make the shields, just in case like insurance. You don’t want to use the insurance but you feel safer know that you have a safety net just in case. This way they feel hopeful less worried. Now I’m working on making other DIY face mask videos to try to reach as many regular 🇺🇸 or other western countries who want to wear masks, but have not been wearing masks like in 🇰🇷 , 🇹🇼, 🇨🇳 , 🇯🇵. Most Americans are just getting used to wearing 😷 and may not have any or are reusing dirty ones or touching the outside then touching their face before washing their hands. If we can help them make masks easily, teach and educate how to use them properly or convince those people who don’t want to wear the masks, we can flatten our curve so we don’t have to run out of ventilators or beds. I’m thinking if I can save some people from getting sick by education each one saved is worth exponentially many more from getting sick which means the healthcare workers don’t have to use as much PPE and see as many sick people, in which some will die. 😔
@@GeorgeYangMDNYC , you have a heart of GOLD! I love you for your kindness and Compassion!! I can't say enough.... I am sharing your videos with everybody I know. You are the absolute best for caring and taking your TIME to make these videos.. Thank you Dr. Yang💗💗
Thank you for taking the time to instruct and inform, Dr. Yang. Thank you Dr. Yang. I think your creative innovations are something we desperately need right now. My spouse works in clinical setting for our local hospital, but could be called to in-patient at anytime. I worry there won't be enough equipment available for her protection in an emergency situation. I am doing everything I can to create the supplies that she might need in that event and you have given me great work-arounds. I am sharing your videos with everyone she works with as well. Hi Robin, Here are some photos and excerpts on my Instagram, before I posted the video. Shopping list: instagram.com/p/B-Gkmtyjj6Y/? Cutting the foam cushion using razor blade with yardstick: instagram.com/p/B-Ilrdap2EU Cutting to 11” wide for the 12”x9” pre-cut sheets is better. In the instagram I cut the foam to 12” for the 13.25” wide acetate which I hand cut. instagram.com/p/B-ItfQ8pb3J Use the 12”x9” acetate sheets to keep the project easy: instagram.com/p/B-KKkhZpEjW Cutting 3/4” elastics 13.25” to match the 12”x9” acetate: instagram.com/p/B-KJhtBDN9j Assembly method I prefer, not shown on the video which was spur of the moment: instagram.com/p/B-LTyKRDqsP. My son on the left was hot gluing the edges of the elastic on the inside of the mask. My older son was hot gluing the foam cushion in the center using about 2-3” bead. I was stapling the already glued elastic 3 times for a very secure headband. If you don’t hot glue the elastic first, you will need to do a lot of fiddling around trying to line up the stapler on the elastic band so you don’t make it crooked or miss the band completely. Hope that makes sense. Send me an email at info@nycface.com Re: Helping Robin with Faceshields, so I can make sure you are good to go. I did a Zoom tutorial with a retired podiatrist in Florida who made a bunch for her local hospital. They simply didn’t have any face shields at all. All the staff was very upset. I will take the email off this thread after I receive your email.
People be kind. A list was requested and an excellent list was created. We are all very humbled by Dr’s commitment. We all now have a clear list of all the necessary items to use our spare time up and to action his plea. Don’t judge. The guy who requested the list, may continue to commit His time and go on to make and supply many. That’s the goal ❤️

Thank you so much for this. In the absence of acetate sheets I found that if you put a laminator sheet through your laminator (with nothing inside of course) it will come out clear and you can use it to make one of these superb face shields - stay safe and thanks again

Thank you for sharing. I salute you for your thoughtfulness and compassion for all your fellow colleagues while doing all you can for your patients. Thank you for being so ingenuous. Please stay safe and take care!
Hey doc, just a tiny tip. I don't know if the foam you used is special in any way, but I have bought similar foam in my local (Belgian) DIY- shop to cover up isolation gaps. This foam has one completely sticking side. Maybe it's easier to make your face mask, I couldn't tell you the price or length it was but it looks the same thickness and was also on a roll. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Belgium.
yes! I think it may be something you could find in a hardware store here in the states, it's used for insulating windows and doors in the winter, one entire side is sticky
Dr. Yang, Thank you so much for showing tow resourceful, practical , protective and easy-to-make PPEs. An excellent solution with readily available materials. Keep up the great work.
Thank you Dr. Yang for your wonderful designs and for caring so much! I made your masks and everyone loves it. Your design is the best mask I made. It is easy to make, cover well and incorporate many scientific facts and ideas into it. I ordered the supplies to make the shields. Can't wait to make it. Please take care.
You can also use a 2 liter clear soda bottle after you drank the soda and washed it, cut the top and bottom off and round out the edged. Use double sticky tape to make it more secure. Use a blow dryer to round out the plastic on top before you tape it to the stereo form. so it wound pop out . For mine, since I couldn't find elastic, I glued the styrofoam to a headband on its side. I saw a video while on quarantine. I work in a hospital and was thinking of making these for our doctors but not sure if they met regulations. But, then again, something is better then nothing.
Dr. Yang thank for sharing your improvised protection. Stay safe. Stay healthy. We're all praying🙏 for you all frontliners. We will fight together. We're much stronger than this pandemic virus. We can beat it! We win as 1. We ❤️ you all.. From Philippines here
Very cool and very creative Dr. Yang! Especially so simple using inexpensive items around the house AND disposable. No fuss with washing and ironing like the cloth ones. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
Thank you for sharing your seemingly simple, yet valuable and very much needed information. You are a true health champion Dr. Yang. May you stay bless and safe through and through....
Thank you for this tutorial. I may not be on the front lines, but I am a dental hygienist and we produce a ton of aerosols on a daily basis with our ultrasonic scalers and handpieces. I can easily make these for staff, since our suppliers are backlogged with orders for these. I live in Texas, and we are gearing towards getting back to work in a couple of weeks.
Very good idea to make them at home so even those people like myself who the government wrote to, to stay home, can wear these to protect them selves when they are out shopping. I already have a couple of the KN95 face maskes, plenty of disposable rubber gloves, some antibacterial hand jel in my purse/handbag and a couple of the splash shields are on their way. I go out only once maybe twice a week and I am EXTREMELY catious of what my hands are doing. Thank you for sharing this informational video.
Dr Yang, thank you for sharing your shields and masks. I hope all people can make se of ths solutions, especially all thos that are on the front line healthcare people. Thank you
Great Idea I used mylar sheets made for notebook sleeves! It's Not as thick but it's better than Nothing. E6000 glue or Low Temperature Hot Glue also worked well. And if you can't find elastic you can cut a T-Shirt pull it so it folds too itself and it will stretch! Just my little in a pinch DIY solution 😊😊😊
Made mine from craft plastic masterial and insulating draft stopper from hardwear store and hat elastic. It works so well. I clean and disinfect between each patient. Thank you for the brilliant design.
I want to say thank you so much ,because some time I think the world is a bad place because nowadays the people the only thing they want is accumulate money and money and money more than they relly need to be ok and they don't care to destroy the world to have money and this is a big mistake because we need only the world in good condition for us and for the next generation, but when I see people like you trying to keep save ,alive another people I feel the world has a hope to be a better place for the human been.I'm sorry for any mistake I'm not English speaker. Thank you again for being the person you are GOD BLESS YOU.
Necessity is the mother of invention. And, sometimes we have to work with what we have; even if that’s an empty (& clean) 2 liter soda or water bottle. By the way, that’s a “ Fabulous “ concept . Thank you for the ideas. 👍👍🙏🦅🧹🧚♀️🧚♂️🌟💫
Well done doctor , simple and effective . Well done to all the do it yourself mask makers . I saw one made with a hoover bag insert . Just cut to shape and slip inside the mask . Dead easy . K
Hi Shannon, which foam did you order. Include the link in your reply. I will see if I can troubleshoot and see if we can make the foam you ordered work for you. For some DIY, they used a thinner foam and stacked 2-4 foam pieces on top of each other with some kind of adhesive or hot glue holding each layer together. I got my 1" thick foam cushion from Michaels. For a small project you can order this one: www.michaels.com/pure-foam-cushion-by-loops-and-threads/10178096.html But I noticed there is a 2" wide foam which need to cut those thinner, which is more work. I won't link that here. If you are not in a rush, you could try to cancel, change the order or return it for the 1" thickness which will be much easier. To cut the foam, you will need a yardstick or long straight edge and a a safety razor blade for the cleanest looking cut. Scissors are fine, but will leave an uneven edge.
@@GeorgeYangMDNYC You're right, I'd have to hot glue layers to get the right thickness with the ones I ordered. I just ordered the cushion from your link. Appreciate that you replied so quickly. Now I'm on the right path. Thank you again very much.
At last I bought the clear sheets the size 14x17 to make sure it will cover the sides well. I can't wait to make it. It's hard to find this sheets on the size and thickness we want. I had to search a lot online the BLICK Art something store delivered to me. And they are expensive, but worth it, 24 sheets. Thank you again.
Thank you for making this video, the hosp where I am working is running out of PPE and we were told to use 1 N95 face shield. With this video I can now make my own mask/shield.

Thank you for being a caring person. The world needs more people like you. Stay safe.
I have worked
In the health care field in-hospital and out-EMS.
God bless. Stay safe.
I can’t help but crying while watching your video. Thank you Dr Yang.
It’s okay. I appreciate your comment. I think everything will be okay. Why? In New York, our curve flattened, people stayed home, 50-70% are wearing masks. Many people died, but new cases are going down less hospitalizations. Everyone who needed a ventilator got one.
Many US manufacturers have stepped up to make these face shields locally. instagram.com/p/B-OW2FFjI0j/?igshid=121esnsb9zte5
MIT a famous engineering school here developed a one piece laser cut face shield which they can make and ship super quickly. instagram.com/p/B-cHEj3jqf2/?igshid=1o8hn7dkfdoeb
I just wanted to show my fellow healthcare workers an easy way to make the shields, just in case like insurance.
Yang. Your caring for your fellow medical professionals is palpable and as someone who is knows people at both coasts battling this virus, I truly appreciate your heart and efforts to help. Hope to use your innovations to send what I make to those folks who need them. Thank you again, and God bless and protect you and yours.
Your so humble snd sweet, God bless you
Thank you for all you do. We apreciate all the doctors nurses and front line workers. We know you also are in great risk and putting the extra time to come up with something for extra protection. May the Lord protect all of you.
I am based in Africa for now in lock-down. Your compassion is lovely to behold. God bless!
Dr Yang, thank very much for your concern and efforts. Please take care and be safe. God Bless.
Not just an angel doctor but one who helps us help others. You are a hero!
Thank you so much Dr. Yang for sharing! You’re so kind and warm-hearted! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you so much for sharing this! May God bless you and keep you safe! You and all the frontlines workers are in our prayers!
Thank you again.
Hi Robin, Here are some photos and excerpts on my Instagram, before I posted the video.
Shopping list: instagram.com/p/B-Gkmtyjj6Y/?
Cutting the foam cushion using razor blade with yardstick: instagram.com/p/B-Ilrdap2EU
Cutting to 11” wide for the 12”x9” pre-cut sheets is better. In the instagram I cut the foam to 12” for the 13.25” wide acetate which I hand cut.
instagram.com/p/B-ItfQ8pb3J
Use the 12”x9” acetate sheets to keep the project easy: instagram.com/p/B-KKkhZpEjW
Cutting 3/4” elastics 13.25” to match the 12”x9” acetate: instagram.com/p/B-KJhtBDN9j
Assembly method I prefer, not shown on the video which was spur of the moment: instagram.com/p/B-LTyKRDqsP.
This is amazing Dr. Yang. Thank you so much for your services and for these wonderful ideas. God bless you
People be kind.
Clever. Difficulties make resourceful skill sets! You have a beautiful, tender heart.
I wanted to thank you for caring and putting this you tube together. It was clear and concise and I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated it. Thank you
You are a blessing to the community. Grateful for you! Thank you for sharing these simple tips and making use of inexpensive materials.
Wonderful ideas! THANK YOU for your service to the medical community we appreciate you!
This video is excellent! Thank you for sharing and caring for other front line hero's and for all that you do for patients. God bless you and keep you well.
Thank you so much my older son works in a grocery store and he has cardiomyopathy and this is something he could wear for extra protection. Thank you so much Dr Yang oh and by the way you touched your face when you scratched your nose lol lol lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you Dr Yang for all you do please stay safe and well god bless you and your family ☺💖
sherry evans @sherry Evans - I think we all have a tendency to scratch something or touch our face when we’re a bit nervous. I know I do!😂😍
Thank you so much for this. In the absence of acetate sheets I found that if you put a laminator sheet through your laminator (with nothing inside of course) it will come out clear and you can use it to make one of these superb face shields - stay safe and thanks again
Great "MacGyvering"! Use what you have. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Dr. Yang for going above and beyond to help protect others as well. God Bless you and your efforts!
Thank you DR.George May God bless you for what you are doing ,you are truly a healer in many ways.please stay safe and healthy the world needs you and many more people like you.sincerely Connie
Amazing genuine loving doctor. What you showed and how well you explained the whole thing is great. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to make this for the world♥️
Thank you. Appreciate your time in showing us how to make shields and masks ourselves..
My pleasure!
Thank you so much Dr. Yang! We highly appreciate you taking the time to make this video and sharing it with all of us. It's so informative and very helpful. It's very comforting to know that people like you still exist in this world who does everything they can to help. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you! My family and I will definitely be making this for ourselves, our extended families and friends too. Thank you again. Stay safe and God bless your kind heart.
Thank you very much Dr Yang for the wonderful ideas to make masks and acetate shields from simple materials. Thanks for sharing them and for taking the time to make these videos. This shows your humanity and that you go the extra mile in caring for others. You are fantastic, it is so nice to see that there are people like you around the world.
Good and caring person!
You are an amazing, thoughtful human being and a considerate doctor. So nice to know you.
A young native Tibetan produced thousands of this face shields and offered to surrounding hospitals in North India. 👏💅🙏
It's very comforting to watch your video because we don't know if the masks we order are fake or real. Thank you Doctor.
On another DIY shield vid, large rubber bands were used for elastic.
Thank you for helping all who are risking their lives to help others - may God protect you.
you made thoese with your hands, some material AND with your heart. Thank you ❤️
Who would not like this video? He is helping us all be safe during this pandemic.
what a crying shame that we have to consider making our own equipment
for nurses, etc. you are way too kind to do this for us all. thanks so much.
God Bless you Dr. George Yang. Thank you for helping us Frontliners. Stay safe🙏🙏🙏
WOW A Doctor who is thinking out of the box and creating immediate solutions!
Thank you so much doctor Yang for doing this tutorial. You certainly are an inspiration to the healthcare field.
Thank you
I want to make these face shields with my sons! Thank you Dr Yang for this tutorial!
Great job, your love for your fellow workers comes across as well
Great Idea
I used mylar sheets made for notebook sleeves!
Thank you Dr Yang from Hong Kong. God bless you and all medical staffs in your country. 🙏
Thank you for this!
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU AND YOUR STAFF ARE DOING!!!
So simple which is what people need right now. Thank you for your time and ingenuity
The crafty doc! Wonderful, thank you for help. I’m not in the medical field but I thank you all for your work. ❤️
Made mine from craft plastic masterial and insulating draft stopper from hardwear store and hat elastic. It works so well. I clean and disinfect between each patient. Thank you for the brilliant design.
"ghetto version". oh my gahd, Doctor! you made me ROTFL! thank you, Doctor, for sharing your precious time with your tutorials.
Dead easy . K
Thank you for your generosity in sharing that options. Great tutorial!
Blessings in Light and Love for you and all watching this video.
I ordered some acetate but I ordered the wrong foam thickness yesterday. Shared on FB & Twitter✅ 😍Thank you! Be safe and Thank you for your service!
For a small project you can order this one: www.michaels.com/pure-foam-cushion-by-loops-and-threads/10178096.html
But I noticed there is a 2" wide foam which need to cut those thinner, which is more work.
😎
At last I bought the clear sheets the size 14x17 to make sure it will cover the sides well. I can't wait to make it. It's hard to find this sheets on the size and thickness we want. I had to search a lot online the BLICK Art something store delivered to me. And they are expensive, but worth it, 24 sheets. Thank you again.
Thank you for making this video, the hosp where I am working is running out of PPE and we were told to use 1 N95 face shield. With this video I can now make my own mask/shield.
Thank you, Dr. Yang! I'll be getting to work today for myself and the other nurses in my department.
Thank you for taking the time to give us something that will make us more safe.
Dr. Yang, You’re absolutely awesome for providing this information for your Co Workers & fellow colleagues. THANK YOU 🙏🏼 STAY SAFE.
You got a good ❤️
Everything you did is soft , smooth & helpful thank you for everything Doc 👍
It's really helpful, Dr. Thanks a lot for the post and bless all healthcare workers!
Thankyou dr George
So kind and thoughtful of you , by this you helped us keeping us safe

You're terrific! Thanks for caring enough to help us out there. I like the MacGyver approach.
