April 7, 2020- Dr. Erickson said homemade masks are better than no mask at all. Watch Dr. Erickson’s news interview in the link below. bakersfieldnow.com/newsletter-daily/doctor-explains-the-importance-and-effectiveness-of-wearing-a-mask BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - April 7, 2020 The Center for Disease Control is recommending people wear a mask when out in public during the pandemic. Dr. Dan Erickson, an emergency room physician and co-owner of Accelerated Urgent Care explains why wearing mask matters and how to know which one to get. He said N-95 masks earned their name because they help filter out about 95 percent of the airborne particles. “It helps decrease the spread of disease,” he said. Dr. Erickson said surgical masks act as a barrier, but they do not filter out the small airborne particles. “It’s the main purpose it’s just a barrier to decrease the spread of respiratory droplets, so you’re wearing it for yourself, but you’re also wearing it for other people in your proximity. Who would be showered by respiratory droplets,” he said. Dr. Erickson said homemade masks are better than no mask at all. “But also you don’t want to get a false sense of protection from it, meaning you still want to keep your six feet from people because it does not filter out the small viruses and bacteria.” He also encourages people to wear it out when they are out in the public, including when grocery shopping or at the gas station. The CDC and Dr. Erickson went in the news to tell us that they recommend wearing masks in public. I was pretty sure people are having a hard time getting decent cheap face masks without getting gouged or ripped off online (you order a bunch of “amazingly protective mask” and they charge your card, but the shipment keeps getting delayed or never comes.). So what do you do when you are waiting for the “best masks”? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Sara Shepard Hello Sara; I really appreciate your input; however Dr Yang is not discussing the benefits or detriments of the mask, he is just explaining how to make a cheap mask. In some parts of the world is mandatory to wear them or a fine will be issue.
Dr, Yang Justification for your work(!) I watch a daily vlog by a fellow Englishman, Dr John Campbell. He provides excellent statistical analysis of the global situation (he was predicting the current situation in early January) and has been a vocal advocate of "face coverings" to prevent viral shedding. In today's vlog, he referenced a report by Nature Science, which detailed their comparison of aerosol shedding from individuals infected by among other things, Coronavirus (common cold) You may find his review of the (much longer) report interesting. Commencing 21:34 ua-cam.com/video/DJX6o6cVO30/v-deo.html Conclusion, any mask is of great benefit, reducing viral shedding to effectively zero. ....... Here's a link to the source article www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0843-2 Keep up the good work! (I'm now experimenting furiously with materials at my disposal!)
@Sara Shepard Following your logic, even *walking* "causes stress on the lungs" I would suggest that anyone with that degree of restriction will not be either walking, or wearing a mask in public areas? Furthermore, moving while applying a stress, AKA "Exercise".... is, by all accounts good for you! The amount of CO2 retained in the confines of a mask? Negligible compared to lung capacity. Bacteria? Let's confirm this..... From the wearer? Who already had the bacteria present...... Hmmmm. Seems that bacteria would be restricted from infecting others! Excellent!
Dr Yang, thank you for this. Please don't worry about those who constantly argue against wearing masks. No matter how hard you try they will not listen to you and refuse to help others by wearing the masks. There are some who have medical problems and are concerned but on the whole I think most people will wear a mask.
Thank you for this simple but well made pattern. At 78 yrs. old, I don't go out but to grocery shop, but I made myself a number of these for the upcoming summer when it will be too hot to wear anything heavy. However, I adapted it to cloth fabric, too, and found they are just as easy to make! Thank you for being such a caring person. We need more doctors like you in this world who really care about people!
I showed this video with my pharmacy. They serve an elderly and/or isolated individuals AND they deliver to their homes. They are going to get together as a team and make these masks. With each delivery, they will include masks for the number of people in that home. Thank you for making this video!
Thank you for sharing this information Dr Yang. 👍 Excellent face covering for a quick trip to the shop for groceries. Cheap and effective. Regards from Australia 🇦🇺
This is the best mask design ever. I've sewn 38 masks so far for family and friends, and it was a herculean effort. From sourcing the materials to all the steps from cutting the pattern, then marking the fabric then cutting the fabric pieces then sewing the pieces (inside out mind you, cause that's how you sew) . I was able to cut down my time from 45 mins to 25 mins per mask but still... what an effort. Then came along this video. Dr.Yang wasn't kidding about 2 minutes. And I think this mask is very effective after testing it out too. Thank you for sharing. I hope this isn't a first and last time I'll be thanking a Yang in the near future! ;)
In case anyone is interested, to make one of these masks with fabric I just cut a pc. of cloth to the same size as the paper towel. Then I did everything else the same, adding the paper strip, paper towels and tissue to the cloth, & folding it all the same. That gives me an extra layer, but it is still light & easy to breathe thru'. Also, I fold my ends to the inside for a little neater apprearance, and nothing scratches my face. Love this pattern! I can whip one up in 5 minutes or less! Thanks again! Oh, another thing is.... with the tissue next to the face like this, it can be changed out easily. That's a plus for me (or anyone with allergies) who has a tendency to drip in their old age! LOL
@@Truth1561 yes, it's all about balance and surprisingly, paper towel is actually a decent material for balancing breathability and protection. Cloth is iffy and depends greatly on the type and quality used
I just made 2 masks following your instructions. One paper towel with a shop cloth inside instead of tissue and the other shop cloth with tissue inside. Both work and fit well. I prefer the chain elastic method, my ears are small and too weak to hold the elastics. These masks will do in a pinch. I'm going to write in small lettering, "If you can read this, you are standing too close". Thank you so much for this vid, Dr. Yang. Sandy (Canada)
Hi Sandy, I love it! “If you can read this, you are standing too close”. Priceless. LOL Maybe we should add that as a gag feature on the next mask. I’ll give you credit. I will need to do it “dead pan” to see if anyone catches it. Thanks for the feedback, Don’t forget to share the with people who may not have access to masks or are on the fence whether or not to comply. I suspect some people want to do it, but their masks from Amazon are taking weeks, and they tried the handkerchief no-sew and find it too bulky and suffocating.
@@GeorgeYangMDNYC I shared your vid on my FB page before I tried to make these. Your vid is travelling around the interweb. I suffer from claustrophobia and other masks are suffocating, your mask is more comfortable and so easy and much cheaper to make. ha It would be very cool to see that on your masks. Thanks again.
Thank you, Dr. Yang! I've been home for weeks and have made the construction of various face masks using household items sort of a hobby - and a means to amuse and reassure my grandchildren - over Facetime. While your design didn't get as many laughs as the boxer briefs/coffee filter mask it certainly is the most practical and the one I'll actually use with confidence when venturing out. Was able to turn out dozens of them for my husband and I and we appreciate your taking the time to share!
LOL I watched a bunch of underwear face masks videos and even a thong worn by a British grandmother. So funny. This diaper facemask is pretty funny. Show it to your grandkids for a laugh. ua-cam.com/video/FLYE1_4Ata0/v-deo.html Glad you can go shopping without feeling ridiculous. I think it looks pretty stylish compared to other paper towel masks. I hope it feels comfortable to wear and to breathe. If it is hard to breath, you can thin it out with a single layer of Kleenex, or even remove it completely if it is really too hard to breathe.
Dr. Yang you’re the best! I followed your simple easy to follow demonstrations showing each step and I made 4 masks in only a few minutes. I like that I don’t feel like my breathing is hindered using these masks and they aren’t flimsy, they are extremely well designed by you! Thank you for your wonderful mask idea!!! 👍🏻
Thank you for approving surgical mask making and thereby approving EVERYONE as certified surgeons! I am now a surgeon and so is my neighbor! No training needed! Just need to put on the mask! It's magic! Protects from invisible and unproven viruses and gives us surgical powers! My governor even approved, saying we should all mask up to save lives and by saving lives I assume that we should go and do surgery!! LOL
Good temporary solution for those who can't sew or those who don't have other materials to make cloth masks. I like that design. I think I might apply that design to my cloth masks. Thanks doctor👍🏼
Thank you so much for this very interesting and yet inexpensive helpful of making a DIY mask Dr. Yang. May I download this video and share this to my friends? (to avoid copyright violations but of course I will indicate all credits to you) Thank you so much. God bless.
I bought some fabric masks recently, was not impressed, fog in my glasses, all wet after 30 minutes. I did a paper mask today with this video and was very happy. Wore it for an hour, no fog, easy to adjust, very breathable. Thanks so much. I feel much safer! I recommend if you can't buy any online. Very easy to do Much cheaper! And my old rubbers bands have a second life!
After I made this, I tried it using cloth and it's so comfortable. I replaced the 2 paper towels and Kleenex with a square bandana folded into thirds, then followed the video folding instructions. (Hot iron helps with the folds and general smoothness.) Instead of rubber bands you can use hair ties, but I cut two sections/loops of pantyhose legs. (If they are big enough they can each loop around a ponytail, leaving the ears free.) I replaced the staples with a couple thread stitches by hand, but small binder clips work too. I then chose to trim the excess bandana because it is longer than paper towels. Held in place extra with my glasses, which it did not fog up.
I like the pantyhose idea. I have a large collection of hair ties and various sizes of elastic but I will give pantyhose strips a try too. I use cotton yarn left over from making dishcloths to create mask extenders with crochet buttons.
This is the best mask tutorial! All others seem impossible and we're anxiety provoking for me. I am so happy about this. You are a genius AND a great teacher. Thank you thank you thank you.
I have ordered 4 packs of muslin cotton cloths on the DEFONO store on Amazon and homemade 16 masks for my daughter as protection. If go out in the public, it will reduce your chance of getting infected. I recommend it to you, hope it helps you.
The BEST and MOST PRACTICAL Home-Made Face Mask ever......Easy to make.....and a DO IT YOURSELF face mask.....Even the kids can make it with adult supervision.....( Scissors /Staple) on their Crafts Time at home
Dr I have to say, these masks are cheap but they really work great. I work for a pharmaceutical company have to wear a mask all-day, I made a couple of these and wore them to work. Everyone was like where did you get that lol gave them the UA-cam channel. These are better than those blue masks the company gives us, these fit your face really nice. Thank you Best mask yet 👍
Hi James, You’re welcome. So happy to hear that you like it. You’re feedback means a lot since you also know what it is like to wear a mask for many hours. Most people are still getting used to it. People who wear masks as part of their jobs, realize comfort is very important. The more comfortable it is, the less you touch it. Imagine me in a 5 hour surgery wearing an uncomfortable mask or poorly fitting one that keeps slipping or gets sucked into my lips like a one way valve. This version is very wide, and a commenter from France said he was laughed at. I think the original version ua-cam.com/video/NCF7lCHMnII/v-deo.html with a tissue paper insert (Kleenex antiviral if anyone can really get those) and the Blue shop towels on a roll, can actually pass as a procedure mask without people noticing it is a DIY.
Thank you so much, Dr Yang. I recently read where paper towel masks provide the most protection against micro-organisms. But I didn't know how to fold one properly. Feeling so much safer now! God bless you and keep you safe! And thanks once again for taking time out from saving lives to put this video up........🙏
I'm glad someone has shown how to make a good mask with things that are on hand. Good job Dr Yang! Everybody has twist ties somewhere, these can be used for the nose bridge form.
I'm a facial plastic surgeon based in New York City. My office has been closed since March 16. The hospital did not need me on the frontline, but requested all of the voluntary faculty to shutdown their practices and not see any patients. The doctors who are paid by the hospital still went to work, but our private practices were deemed not essential. Initial projects before the DIY disposable face masks was making Face shields for the frontline doctors and nurses who I know. They work at the hospitals and when paid by the hospital, even if you are not normally a COVID-19 doctor, they are paying your salary and will ask you to help where appropriate. For private practice doctors, we are in the same situation as the small businesses. We have no income and can only wait to restart. In the meantime, try to help in anyway I can. You can see the face shield work on my Instagram: instagram.com/georgeyangmd/ I had a funny thought about my DIY face shield project. The shield is made of "plastic" and it covers the "face." So, I'm a "Facial" "Plastic" Surgeon. Go figure. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Since 2013, I've wanted to make educational UA-cam videos and videos about my practice, but never had the time to actually make the videos, because the practice was busy enough, and the 3 kids took up the rest of the time. With this forced break, I finally had time to work on these projects, while the rest of the time helping them with school, and rekindling my cooking skills which I hadn't been doing much since medical school. The UA-cam channel and comments section is like my online clinic. I get to answer questions and if people are having trouble making their masks, I can try to help them troubleshoot.
Of all the no-sew masks I've made and worn these last two months, this pattern is my hands-down favorite. Heartfelt thanks to you, Dr. Yang! Below, minor tweaks based on materials I had on hand... Am using blue Shop Towels for the body of the mask, which I'd bought for another mask tutorial. In place of the printer-paper strip, am inserting an additional strip of Shop Towel, cut to size. After creasing and unfolding the towel, I tape a "nose-grip" no more than a quarter of an inch below the center crease. For the grip, I use an 8-inch length of pipe cleaner folded in half to make a 4-inch double wire. Then, before taping the wire onto the towel, I use needle-nose pliers to bend the two exposed, pointy tips backwards into a tiny flat loop, thereby avoiding an unsightly, mask-induced cheek wound. : ) I complete the mask as per your tutorial. Having mostly stayed inside these last few months, I haven't had to wear a mask for longer than an hour. (And I don't wear any mask more than once.) But the day may come when I have to be out all day. You recommend putting on a *new* mask after 3-4 hours. What happens to a mask after 3-4 hours to render it kaput? All the best to you, Dr. Yang, and again, thanks!
Nice job with your mask build. I think that depending on exposure to people, there may be a possible accumulation of potential virus on the outside of the mask. In a school setting without social distancing, I can imagine this happening. The 3-4 hour idea came from a news piece about how the Taiwan school children are still going to school and what measures they are taking. It includes how they eat lunch in a crowded classroom. ua-cam.com/users/postUgypWivl4DizEgpPxOl4AaABCQ?app=desktop The morning mask is tossed out and hands are washed prior to eating. After lunch, they don’t want the children handling the used mask (where do they store them?) and putting it back on, so they wear a fresh mask. A proper surgical mask should only cost 20-40 cents. It should be like kleenex tissues. As a surgeon, we have worn the same mask for 12+ hour long surgeries during my residency So it should be fine from a usability standpoint.
@@GeorgeYangMDNYC *_"...possible accumulation of potential virus on the outside of the mask."_* That makes sense, and I'll be sure pack extra masks if I need to be out all day. Thanks for the video link. Am awestruck by Taiwan's organized, thorough handling of this crisis. Really inspiring. Wishing you the best, good sir!
Perfect!! Neither my wife or I sew. We can use simple, readily available supplies around the home. This video is clear, concise & easy to follow. This is fantastic Thank you so much.
It’s not just wear a mask, it is that everyone should wear a CLEAN mask :) so this mask is definitely perfect for people who don’t have time or can’t wash their masks for different reasons. .
This is the BEST! I've made a couple from other videos, they turned out to be a failure. This has a heavier structure to it, gives more between the mask and your face but still fits snugly around the edges which is the key to a good fit. THANK YOU for doing this video and I found it to be the best demo on UA-cam.
Love these!! It uses things most people already have plus it’s cheap and easy enough to just toss and make new each time I need one. Thank you so much Dr. Yang!
Thankyou so much Dr Yang for this useful technique....I just made my husband and myself one...I used a coffee filter because we only had lotion infused tissues....the mask fits so snug and our glasses sit comfortably on top of it and no fogging up of our lenses. Keep us posted on any helpful tips to withstand this horrific event in history.
THANK YOU for making this clear, concise AND easy to understand!!! All your videos so far are informative and to the point but NOT boring or condensending. Much appreciate your wisdom and care!! Thank you Sir!!
Thank you Dr. Yang. This is the best mask tutorial so far. I will make several of these and place them by the door so my family can grab and go, then dispose appropriately.
I was skeptical that I could do this, but I made this and it fit perfectly. The instructions were so clear and concise. Thank you so much! You are talented.
This is an amazing easy and effective mask. I replaced the rubber bands with simple fabric ties because that’s what I had. This fits small and large faces too. Thank you!
Genius! Thank you - this will help tremendously for businesses like offices, restaurants, etc. so the cloth & medical grade masks can be saved for you guys.
Yes indeed. If you wear glasses it is a safety issue. Fogging of the lenses is annoying and very dangerous if you are walking, jogging or cycling with a mask, as you cannot see where you are going. Also, if it us just you driving your own car, you don't need to have a mask on unless you go in and out of the vehicle a lot (i.e. delivery driver). You need to be able to see. If you find it too hard to breathe, try leaving it a bit looser at the back of the mask where anything that goes out will move toward you or in your hood rather directly away from you.
I used the doctor's pattern to make a mask so I could get a haircut. Instead of using rubber bands, I shortened the sides a bit and used medical tape to attach it to the sides of my face so my stylist could easily wash, cut and style my short hair. Thanks!
You do know that, certainly at such close quarters, being carried in tiny water droplets on your breath when you exhale, the virus is more likely to enter your body through the membranes in your eyes rather than breathing it in? That’s why medical staff are wearing the full face visors as well! I don’t think a haircut is worth catching this nasty virus for.
Dr Yang. Thank you very much for teaching us that tutorial of the mask with paper, it was fantastic. I work in a Korean medicine company and they give us a mask similar to the one you made. I like it a lot because it covers the face very well, and it breathes very well. Thank you for your generosity to always share something new for everyone, to protect us from this Covid.😊🤗Many Blessings to You.🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Dr. Yang. I have tried several no-sew fabric masks and this paper mask is far superior. I like that it is disposable. I'll recycle the rubber bands. It fits great, is not hot and my glasses do not fog up.
excellent sir , thanks for sharing this fast and easy mask....the best thing is most all of us have these items readily available in the home....made this mask in 2 minutes with everything I already had laying around....thanks again
Your explanation about big juicy droplets shrinking without hitting a mask helps people understand why mask mainly protects others more than the wearer. So it would be helpful to include this explanation in your comments beneath future videos.
This is OUSTANDING and Very Convenient and Affordable and Cost Effective.... Thank you SOOO Very MIUCH .... I work in a Lab my coworkers and I were the last to get masks - IF ANY , We were reusing the thin paper blue ones-THANK YOU
I needed to respond since you said you were reusing the disposable masks. Ideally those are one time use. The cloth ones can at least be washed and a new paper towel insert can be used. This kind of mask is the best fit for my face! Thank you! Now im just choosing which kind of cloth to use. Btw, can you please make a video/review on copper masks? One brand design has a hole on the chin area of the mask claiming for the user to breathe easily. And the copper material would kill 99% of germs.
Brilliant!!! Thank you Dr. Yang for providing a fantastic explanation for why we need to wear masks and for your excellent instructions how to make a disposable mask during the world-wide shortage of them. Previously I was making the accordion masks but switched to yours today. Made 2 of each. Also a big thank you for the elastics options as I have various sizes and did not know how to best utilize the odd sized ones. Testing will begin tomorrow. I will keep you posted. 🙏
@@GeorgeYangMDNYC You must be an engineer at heart. I can see you developing new and valuable life saving medical devices sometime in the future. Thank you so much for these updates!! Elaine
I tried to improve the design 2 ways: 1) using coffee filter instead of tissue paper (I'm not sure if it filters better; see link in my previous reaction) and 2) adding a piece of copper wire or unfolded paper clip to make the mask fit better around my nose. 2) is a huge improvement, because air leakage at the nose is the weakest point of Yang's still excellent design. I mean: really excellent design. I'm very impressed how well the mask is and how easy it is to make with very limited resources. Well done Mr Yang!
I further improved the concept: I removed the sheet of printer paper and added a second layer of coffee filter and kept the paper tissue layer (so: 6 layers). The coffee filter adds enough stiffness to the mask and filters very well, while the printer paper only blocks the air, causing half of the masks filtering surface to be unused. I guess stiffness is the reason why the printer paper layer is added, or are there other reasons? I tested it: you can't breath through a layer of printer paper. Also: without coffee filter, there is no good why to stick the paper clip on the mask with tape. I cut the coffee filters to half the size of the unfolded paper towel, so it covers the whole surface when the paper towel is folded half.
Bas Koop I folded rectangles of aluminum foil for nose bend. I ran out of paper, but cut up envelopes (that bills come in) into 2 inch strips. Since I’ll be throwing these away, the danger of an used envelope is probably the same as a used mask. I had c-fold towels and I tried a coffee filter when I ran low on tissues. I’ve got lots of toilet paper, but prefer baby wipes. I’m stuck in a wheelchair is why a use baby wipes. We’ll get through this into a new normal. I just wish I could get a test!
@@baskoop305 I have done the same thing, using a paper clip stick with a tape to adjust it on the nose and keep it firm. And it works great. Easy to breath too. I had bought a few ones at the pharmacy, and believe me the paper one is better and very confortable. Thanks.
Thank you for the information. I was told that if you rinse your eyeglasses with dish soap before you go out they will not steam up from your mask breath for two or three hours.
When I first saw this I thought, "this is stupid". Then I made one, and now I think this is awesome! I had all of the supplies and it turned out perfect. The only changes I made was I folded about 10 of them and then ran them up on my sewing machine. I'll reuse the rubber bands. Thanks!
@@makeupallies You are welcome! I made about 20 of these today and it only took me about an hour. I would have made more but I ran out of rubber bands! Stay safe. Love from the Midwest of USA.

Congrats, Dr. Yang. I've also been surprised by other articles showing a very close performance of surgical and n95 masks, both better than cloth ones. The issue of properly handling it and being a one use only piece is great too. Indeed the aerosol risk is comparatively minor. Respect, from a colleague.
Your mask design is awesome! Thank you for sharing Dr. Yang. I made a few today out of the regular paper towel and the blue shop towels that I have on hand to clean and season my cast iron pans. It’s simpler to make and fits better than the previous design that I tried last week.
OMG. This is the first presentation I've seen (and I've watched a few) that helped me to truly understand mask construction with its folds and pleats. This will also be useful to me as I begin to hand stitch my first cloth masks bcz many of the free ones being distributed are just a piece of rectangular cloth (with an elastic loop on each end) that is either too big or not face-conforming. You rock, Doc! Thank you!🙏💓
Thank you, Dr Yang! I can make and share these with anyone who comes to our pediatric urgent care. So kind of you to share your wisdom and talent! God bless you and keep you safe!
Now I don't have to worry about throwing my mask away and not think about how much I spent. Surgical masks are going for $0.70 each now in the big stores.
I love that it's so simple and inexpensive it's easy to keep a stash to replace frequently out and about. Perfect also for communities in less well-off countries. Will share widely. Thanks Dr Yang. Subscribed!
Genius! I purchased the paper shop towels from my local automotive supply store and made the mask with a shop towel. The piece of copy paper gives the mask more structure than the multi-fold mask that I'd been wearing with the metal nose piece. Plus, I can make this mask with fewer steps. I'll share you video with my Facebook friends and family.
Ariel TaylorMO Thanks Ariel! I just responded to Kira and Helen who also made their masks using shop towels. Im glad you noticed the fit along the nose was pretty good even without the metal nose piece. 😎
Ariel TaylorMO Thanks for the feedback. If the paper towel give you a tighter fit because the shop towel is softer and more fabric-like which is prone to collapsing. I was hoping the printer paper stiffener would give some structure. Based on what your feedback, maybe the best combo, is using the shop towel as the filtration insert in place of the tissue paper and the stiffer towel to structure the mask for a better fit. 👍🏼
@@GeorgeYangMDNYC You can straighten out a LARGE paper clip and secure that with staples the rolled inside top edge. It gives you a good, adjustable nose hugging feature.
Leutchik Pipe cleaner or a piece of folded aluminum fold is softer metal and easier to bend. instagram.com/p/B-piJ2XjaR3/? The reason I left it out of this video, is that the paper has more stiffness than cloth. If you bend a strip of the printer paper, you will get an arch. Try that with a strip of cloth, it doesn't work. To keep the build more simple and straightforward, it isn't necessary, but if I were to make the same mask out of cloth I would definitely include some kind of metal nose insert. Feel free to try it both ways with and without the paperclip. You can also use a different filter insert if you have better materials at home.

“But also you don’t want to get a false sense of protection from it, meaning you still want to keep your six feet from people because it does not filter out the small viruses and bacteria.”
He also encourages people to wear it out when they are out in the public, including when grocery shopping or at the gas station.

In today's vlog, he referenced a report by Nature Science, which detailed their comparison of aerosol shedding from individuals infected by among other things, Coronavirus (common cold)
You may find his review of the (much longer) report interesting.
Commencing 21:34
ua-cam.com/video/DJX6o6cVO30/v-deo.html
Conclusion, any mask is of great benefit, reducing viral shedding to effectively zero.

@Sara Shepard
Following your logic, even *walking* "causes stress on the lungs"
I would suggest that anyone with that degree of restriction will not be either walking, or wearing a mask in public areas?
Furthermore, moving while applying a stress, AKA "Exercise".... is, by all accounts good for you!
The amount of CO2 retained in the confines of a mask? Negligible compared to lung capacity.
Bacteria? Let's confirm this..... From the wearer? Who already had the bacteria present...... Hmmmm.
Seems that bacteria would be restricted from infecting others! Excellent!
Thank you 🙏 this was a really good video..
I am, glad that you've demonstrated how to make this no sew mask. I'm definitely going to make some of these. Thank you Dr. Yang!
One of the best masks so far. It's comfortable, easy to make, hygienic and the fit is great. Thankyou George. Big thumbs up.
I showed this video with my pharmacy. They serve an elderly and/or isolated individuals AND they deliver to their homes. They are going to get together as a team and make these masks. With each delivery, they will include masks for the number of people in that home. Thank you for making this video!
Such a lovely idea - thank you!
Thank you for sharing this information Dr Yang. 👍 Excellent face covering for a quick trip to the shop for groceries. Cheap and effective.
Regards from Australia 🇦🇺
Your disposable, easy to make mask is the best that I've found on UA-cam. Thank you for sharing how to make them.
LOL
how do you sanitize your fabric mask with all the paper in it? or do you discard it after each use?
Pat A easier to breathe through means less protection.
@@Truth1561 yes, it's all about balance and surprisingly, paper towel is actually a decent material for balancing breathability and protection. Cloth is iffy and depends greatly on the type and quality used
@@tango780 You would replace the paper and wash the cloth mask before each use
I was thinking about doing that with cotton and silk, using buttons instead of staples so I can take it apart to clean the silk and cotton separately.
Brilliant idea with easy to follow presentation.
Priceless. LOL
Maybe we should add that as a gag feature on the next mask.
Thanks again.
or BACK OFF or KINDLY GTF AWAY FROM ME or ...
@Acinore Samoh thanks for this, but probably paper towels do the same. I'm wondering though about the chemicals that shop towels might contain.
Thanks for sharing...I love this very simple method
Show it to your grandkids for a laugh. ua-cam.com/video/FLYE1_4Ata0/v-deo.html
Glad you can go shopping without feeling ridiculous. I think it looks pretty stylish compared to other paper towel masks.
I hope it feels comfortable to wear and to breathe. If it is hard to breath, you can thin it out with a single layer of Kleenex, or even remove it completely if it is really too hard to breathe.
Haha - love this! I'm sooooo going to stick a fake moustache on one the first one for my son. :D
Brilliant! If there was a prize for the best (easiest to make and most effective), THIS is the winner! THANK YOU!
Amazing video Dr. Yang. Thank you for sharing how to make these no-sew masks. You are saving lives even on youtube.
LOL
Wow, the most ignorant, sarcastic comment ever. Shoo, troll, shoo!
So eine einfache Lösung mit Materialien, die jeder zu Hause hat. Vielen Dank dafür, Sie helfen damit vielen Menschen, die einfach keine Masken haben.
I love this pattern! Very easy to do!,
Good temporary solution for those who can't sew or those who don't have other materials to make cloth masks.
God bless.
Yes you can!
Thanks for a very informative and easy to understand set of instructions. It was especially welcome to hear the use of civilised measurements!
Watching rubber bands being looped. So soothing. Cool video.
I am just saying only a surgeon could cut a rubber band that small. Thank you for being that good. ❤️
Make a cut, then do just ONE layer, It helps to not have to keep both lined up at the same time while cutting.
I thought the same thing :)

I made some of these masks and I'm amazed how well they fit and how comfortable they are.
I’m amazed you have time to do this. Thank you and I pray you stay healthy.
You can see the face shield work on my Instagram: instagram.com/georgeyangmd/
I had a funny thought about my DIY face shield project. The shield is made of "plastic" and it covers the "face." So, I'm a "Facial" "Plastic" Surgeon. Go figure. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Since 2013, I've wanted to make educational UA-cam videos and videos about my practice, but never had the time to actually make the videos, because the practice was busy enough, and the 3 kids took up the rest of the time.
Only a surgeon would be this precise. Awesome idea, Doctor!
: )
I complete the mask as per your tutorial.
It includes how they eat lunch in a crowded classroom. ua-cam.com/users/postUgypWivl4DizEgpPxOl4AaABCQ?app=desktop
The morning mask is tossed out and hands are washed prior to eating.
@@GeorgeYangMDNYC *_"...possible accumulation of potential virus on the outside of the mask."_*
That makes sense, and I'll be sure pack extra masks if I need to be out all day.
Thanks for the video link. Am awestruck by Taiwan's organized, thorough handling of this crisis. Really inspiring.

Yang!

Absolutely genius! I had to remind myself how to do the simple mask, using this method. I wear my self-made fabric masks.
Thank you so much for the good, simple way of making masks from paper towels & tissue paper. Thank you.
wirklich! was für eine schicke Maske!

Pro tip: put a twist tie (or pipe cleaner) inside the part that goes over the bridge of your nose so you can shape it to the contour of your face.
Utterly BRILLIANT! Really good for kids because you can so easily fit the correct size.
I don’t think a haircut is worth catching this nasty virus for.
wear are the hair salons open?????
Dr Yang. Thank you very much for teaching us that tutorial of the mask with paper, it was fantastic. I work in a Korean medicine company and they give us a mask similar to the one you made.
Where is the link? I cant find it. Thanks.
@@jobellecollie7139 I was going to say that. Aluminum foil is great for this.

@@GeorgeYangMDNYC I just tried both shop towel and paper towel masks. For me, the stiffness in the paper towel gives me a tighter fit.
