The tin cup for your shooting trash is genius! I’m going to add one and a bayonet to use as a rod holder to my musket range kit.

"A pulse" is a classic line...I just stumbled upon your channel - nice. Unfortunately, since the Chinese Flu prices are outrageous and dues are going up again.

I'm not a member of the N-SSA however I have an orginal and repro M1861 I enjoy shooting. However i shoot at a range and they wouldn't appreciate me throwing paper on the ground. Lol I just ordered a bag of 100 of those .58 cal ammo tubes. That should save me alot of time on the range thanks for your video

Comments from a Skirmisher with 39 years of experience...
    1. Two-band rifles are preferred by most Skirmishers. They load faster and are better balanced. The P1858 Enfield is a good example.
    2. Shop the reenactment group boards and Facebook groups for leather goods, you can often pick up quality goods at a discount price.
    3. The letter of the Skirmish Rules is that the outermost upper garment must be authentic...meaning you can get away with a period shirt with thermal underwear beneath.
    4. You'll also need a bullet mould and a powder measure. Minie balls CAN be bought, but it's far cheaper to buy your own. You may need a sizer...N-SSA experience has been to use a Minie .001 inches below bore diameter. If the mould casts to that with pure lead, you're in luck. Otherwise, get a sizer. Normal loads are around 45 grains of 3F. Black powder only.

Thanks, Hammerli280! One of my next videos is going to be on how to make up your ammunition for a skirmish.

Good info. Been with the 7th Michigan Infantry for over 40 years. Here in the NWT area we will help new skirmishers with the region having equipment to loan them for their first year.

Do they still have The Miller Award for most authentic uniform? My dad, Paul Ruehs won said award in 1978. We began in Battery B First New Jersey. Then went to another regiment after somebody from that outfit stole a pair of my dad's original Union Civil War trousers

Looking at getting into this. DO they have a forum where non members can ask questions and learn some things? I want o make sure its something I can actually do and commit to before joining. Also as for a musket, are originals ok to shoot or do they push repros like reenactors do

Hi, yes, look at www.n-ssa.net for the forums. Many people do shoot originals. Sometimes they will have the barrels relined or replaced, if needed. Also people shoot reproductions. There is a list of approved reproduction arms under "Rules" at www.n-ssa.org.

@@musketmatters2004 Thanks. Sadly after observing for a bit it looks very insular and adverse to growth. It looked fun though.

What are the #1 and #2 target sizes?

At 50 yards a bullseye is usually 4" in diameter. Depends on the gun being shot.
