Niolox Steel is a stainless steel with almost tool steel toughness. It is a modified version of D2 Steel. Sleipner Steel is also a modified version of D2 as well. Sleipner is a tool steel resistant to chipping and improved toughness from what D2 had. Niolox is more corrosion resistant and takes an edge easier and less prone to chipping as well. You can think of Niolox and Sleipner as brothers, one being stainless and the other tougher but both sharing each other's traits a little bit. Lionsteel uses both of these Steels so I felt it was relevant to mention Slepner which is also in the D2 family.
It’s funny I got a Lion Steel T5 for Christmas from my friend and I wanted to send it in to 5min knives for review but I figured with so much good content it probably wouldn’t make the cut lol! And now here it is just a different color.
greetings from one of your Australian Viewers. i got one of these T5's last year as well, much like Caleb i found i need Stainless here In the land downunder. most of the places i would be adventuring are either constantly wet , salty or both. While i like the quality of the leather sheath, I have been thinking about getting Kydex for mine too... now even more so. regarding the Niolox Steel - it's similar to sleipnir and D2. only with better edge retention, corrosion resistance and toughness. mine came crazy sharp out of the box too.
Just email me whenever you're ready. This is a fun one to build a shetah for and I can just mold it to my copy and save yout he shipping. (Thanks to Caleb) 👍
Hey bro! Don’t know much about niolox myself but it’s stainless which is almost needed in NZ as it does rain a lot here and I can put a great edge on it using my worksharp field sharpener. Loving my kydex sheath, If you’ve got this knife definitely email this man about a kydex sheath, you won’t be disappointed.
I have a Fox Ryu in Nylox and it is by far my favorite .I would have no issues dispatching a Uruk Hai with it ! I will be reaching out to you for my sheaths for my early Cold Steel TaiPan and Magnum Tanto IX. Keep up the great work !
I have the LionSteel T6 with the black blade. Love it! Going to buy a T5 soon. The T6 came with a kydex sheath and I’ve heard that the T5s are now shipping with them also, which is great news.
@@williamtetrault1300 that’s a smart move on Lionsteel’s part. Although the leather sheath was well made too though. Lionsteel makes some good looking blades for sure.
Im from NZ brutha but live in Hawaii. I bought my Lionsteel t5 and took it back to Nz and left it there in storage in its leather sheath might need to buy a kydex one to take back when I go back next cheers mate.
From Google - Niolox is a tool steel, similar to D2 or Sleipner steel, but with finer grains and rust resistance. It is produced by Lohmann. It is a great steel if you need a good balance of edge retention, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and toughness. It is unique from other steels because it uses Niobium. Niobium acts similarly to Vanadium, forming fine, hard carbides that improve wear resistance. The formation is slightly different from Vanadium, so it makes sense to combine the two.
Hey. My name is George. I just found you and subscribed..... I found you by searching kydex for my silent hero. How much would it cost me for you to make my sheath ?

Thanks Caleb! Really cool knife. Love that it’s an Italian company 🇮🇹
This one has a very special feel to it. Italians make some pretty snazzy knives. . .
Lionsteel makes some beautiful knives. Way cool of Caleb to send you one.
Right? Stand up guy. . .

Never doubt my love of knives I didn't have to buy for reviews. 🤣

This comment is most appreciated, and thanks for joining the discussion!🍻
Niolox is a tool steel similar to d2 or sliepner, with a finer grain and rust resistance ( I got that from A.G.Russell). Nice knife!
Appreciate ya!

Looking forward to it! My press currently only can accommodate blades up to 10"... Just a heads up depending on which Magnum tanto you have...
I'm pretty sure it's the Magnum IX but I'll have to double check.@@5MinuteKnives
Just ordered one. The black as they advertise must actually be stonewash/black.. I have a Bastinelli SAFE made by LionSteel. It's a work of art.

@@happykt thanks for the info! It sharpens well
If you like the Lionsteel T5, You should look at the Lionsteel H1 and H2 for EDC. I love all my Lionsteel knives.
I'll check it out. Thanks!

Cool. Shoot me an email at dragonscalejoe@gmail.com for a quote. 👍
The recessed area on the top of the blade where you put your thumb is to provide an area to strike a fire steel
It's coated and not really sharp though, so I'm not sure how well that'd even work. I'll give it a shot and letcha know. 👍
Thanks for the review, love the close up on a beautiful knife. Have you sharpened it yet? I was wondering if it was difficult. Great channel btw.
Thanks bud and yes! It really liked ceramic honing rods. Interesting steel!
Concerning sheaths...I put a 'D' in the belt loop and make a dangler for it. I also have their Kydex sheath which they sell separately.
Good to know! Lately, I have been getting a lot of orders for sheaths for this knife. Must be selling well?
@@5MinuteKnives Yes...I've had mine since they first came out. I have loved it ever since.
