  • Our family has a long history with food banks. We used to have a food pantry to distribute food in our community and know the huge value it offers.
In this food haul, I'll show you what you might get from the food pantry feeding a family of 7 people.
I have another video coming soon too show you get for 1 person from the food pantry.
Food pantries will give food to anyone that meets the income requirements. In our area, they do not need to see income verification documents. You have to fill out a form before receiving food but it is essentially the honor system.

We’ve been using a food pantry the last few months. My husband is full time National Guard and I’m a stay at home mom. We make too much to get food stamps apparently. But with a family of 7, I can tell you, we really don’t make enough. So the pantry has helped out a lot. The problem is though, sometimes we only get one meat. Other times I might get two. While I’m grateful for what we do get, we don’t always get enough for even two weeks. And I can only spend $100 a week for food. But sometimes I have to use some of that for gas or a small package of diapers. So I’m learning to really stretch what we have. I’m so so so happy to have you and a few others out there that can help me with ideas.

Thank you for being the wife behind a man helping to keep our country safe. You are a hero in my book. My dad is former military as well...I grew up with a frugal mom who could stretch anything farther than most.
I don't know what kind of food pantries you go to, but its worth getting to know the people that run them. They have the ability to help more sometimes. Sometimes they have a lot extra of something and they would give it to you if they knew. Have a chat with someone in charge and see if they have ideas.
$100 a week is super tight. Do you qualify for WIC? That has different income guidelines. Praying for you for more income and for that money to stretch providentially.

If you drain and dice the contents of a can of green beans and a can of carrots, you can add them to a mac 'n' cheese meal at the same time you are adding the sauce ingredients to the cooked pasta. Or you can add the veggies to a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup (you have the frozen chicken pieces and several forms of dried pasta) at the end when the soup is done.
Thaw, dice and brown some of that sausage, add some of those raw tomatoes diced and cook a bit longer. Then add to that Beef Pasta meal when you are cooking that.
I would use the dry breakfast cereal to make a version of Rice Crispy Treats dessert bars and store them in the freezer and then just use a few at a time or share the freshly made batch with the neighbors. The dry cereals could be stored in the freezer for a couple of months and then used to make a batch of Rice Crispy Treats to take to a holiday party. You never want to show up empty-handed when invited to a holiday party in someone's home.
I would toast two English muffin halves and spread them with peanut butter and drizzle with honey for a quick breakfast. Or mix canned tuna, mayo and diced celery or pickle relish for a tuna salad filling for the toasted English muffin halves. The potato chips are a good accompaniment to a modest soup and sandwich lunch, especially if you are feeding children and teens. Tuna salad muffin sandwiches plus tomato soup plus a side of potato chips would make a good lunch.

Some of our bakeries donate day old bread, etc, to our food bank.

Yes! We have that too! It's such a blessing. Years ago when our family helped run a food pantry, we would go to the foodbank and see the massive amounts of donations there....that came from everywhere including local bakeries and farmers.

We go every week, unfortunately having celiacs disease and my daughter as well makes it very difficult to fill our needs.

That sounds extremely challenging. Is your food bank able to adjust the food they give you to avoid wheat and gluten products?

Hi im new here, enjoying your channel, you can use those canned items in a stew or if you don't have fresh you can use these for a soup, God bless you and your family 😊

Yes...you can used canned vegetables and meat in soup or stew. I actually can my own for that purpose so you can definitely do that with canned foods. Keep in mind many have a lot of salt so its better to drain them before adding to any soup and then you can add more salt if needed.

Most pantries give for a single person or a "family" (with no extra for larger families). In my area if one needed there are enough food pantries that one could go to a different one each week as they have a limit of once a month.

That is interesting. I'll have to check around and see if other pantries operate differently around here. I was looking at the food pantry website where this food came from and they said they give food for 4-5 days. This was definitely not food for 4-5 days for 7 people. I have a video to post in the next day or two that is the food pantry haul for one person. And the amount they give just 1 person felt like quite a bit more. It felt like it would last 1 person 4 to 5 days.
