  • Welcome!
    We are a homesteading, homeschooling family of 7. Due to recent events (job loss/career change, health issues, rising food costs, etc.) we are having a hard time making ends meet despite our best efforts at frugality. So we are tapping into our local food banks to help us feed our family. Come along as I show you what we are blessed with, what we add to it via grocery store and garden, and how I use it all to nourish our bodies.
    Thanks for watching and God bless!

    I'm a truck driver and haul lots of food if a customer refuses an item like if a box is damaged or the wrong product is shipped a lot of times we'll take it to a food pantry.

      Many years ago my husband worked on the dock for a company. Several times there were damaged canned goods. They often gave them to my husband. Our girls were so excited when Daddy brought home a case of Spaghettio’s . One can was dented.

    I helped at my local church food pantry this morning been doing this for 10 years most of the helpers are seniors we have been averaging around 45 to 50 families today we had 90 this is the most we've seen since covid first started back in 2020.
    Thank you for always suggesting that people go to a food pantry that's what they are there for

    Don't be too concerned about that marinara sauce in the bags, it looks like big packages that restaurants would get. I wouldn't can them because they have already been processed, but freeze it into the portions you will use for various meals. Such a blessing in your hauls.

    Thanks for sharing. It's always so interesting to see what you get. You have a wonderful food pantry there and that was some lovely items you received! Those asparagus pouches do look good and would be so handy. Macadamia nuts too - yum!

    Our produce we get for our monthly produce distribution is what grocery stores refuse for some reason: examples are Kroger wants potatoes kept at 40 degrees on the truck and the temperature was 42 they will refuse the load. So we get them donated to our organization and we take them to our different markets(we are up to 9 a month now). It is just crazy to me!!
    Great haul!! My family loves the Screaming Sicilian pizzas, I only buy them though when there is a great rebate through ibotta.

    You could cook the turkey for Easter and enjoy with veggies. The Lindt chocolates are really expensive. Enjoy with the kids and have a great Easter.

    The working poor, that’s the truth right there. I realized living paycheck to paycheck is a luxury. I remember living paycheck to 2 days before payday and OH the struggle. I thank you for posting these videos and sharing your message, because your right, not everyone has the ability/ luxury of having a “Nest Egg” life happens, but no one nor no family should have to go hungry when their are resources to help. Please don’t be ashamed to utilize them. 💜

    Why not roast a turkey for Easter. I put a stick of butter in the cavity, season with salt and pepper and roast upside down and the breast is incredibly moist. Can your leftovers.

    Another great haul. They cut the food stamps very low. Their alternative they say is to use the food bank. However the food pantries around here don't have hardy anything at all. I stared going lately. I am very grateful for all the blessings. They only have shelf stable and hardly anything fresh at all. God bless you and your family. I pray every day for our country. ♥️🙏

    Glad you ended up grabbing the marinara. I would’ve been all over that!😂. Along with pints, I’d probably use some half pints too. Do you have the nutrition label info for it? I also follow keto and read a lot of labels and watch the hidden sugars and fillers.

    • @weepingwillowhomestead
      @weepingwillowhomestead  Рік тому +1

      It did not have the label unfortunately. But I usually don't eat much pasta sauce anyway so should be OK. ❤️

    • @weepingwillowhomestead
      @weepingwillowhomestead  Рік тому +1

      Unfortunately due to our "sue happy" society, many companies and governments choose to "cover their legal butts" rather than risk people suing them for getting sick or just not liking their not perfect donations. 😕

      If there are no takers, they are trashed. Stores, vending machine operators distributors have to keep products moving there is no profit in storing foods, etc. They have to sell things to make money. The food banks are always receiving donations, too. They have to constantly keep items moving before they expire or are too long after Best used date. Many places get tax credit for donating. Just like when you do your taxes. So do not judge other people.

    • @marionolson770

      Quit jumping to conclusions. I volunteer at a food bank, but have friend who wants to so youtube to make some money. Don't assume.
