@Sincere Stanley I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I absolutely love that you don’t clutter so much! All the other tanks I’ve seen is just clutter around everywhere. Now I understand they feel more safe but they are mostly all juveniles and I wonder if it’s hard for them to find their way to, food, water and what not. My first leopard gecko I had completely cluttered it everywhere and I started to notice his lack in eating and rarely saw him drink any water. I then quickly re-organized his tank and I started to see him drinking and finding his food more easily. I now have a vivarium for him and he’s loving it! I also think tiles are a great choice so they can’t get stuck under anything as they tend to dig borrows.
I made it! I did have to make it bigger for a 40 gallon terrarium, but it's amazing. Thank you for the inspiration. I did add another hide for a total of 4. I'm still in the process of grouting and sealing but again, thank you!
Having them stacked is why toothpicks and two builds. One for testing and one for using. Sounds like unnesecary work tho whenever two builds are used the final build almost always comes out with extreme precision.
@@ellesreptiles I have a leopard gecko in a 20gallon tank, I have an idea for a custom hide if you every think about selling any custom orders(: I would rather support a small buiness/lepoard gecko lover rather than a chain like Petsmart/Petco.
I was actually wondering the same thing!! Especially since I'm doing the same thing for my 4 bearded dragons. But its awesome to have something that's unlike anyone else's in the world! N a great feeling knowing u did it on ur own!!
This is very useful and very creative! I’m about to get a leopard gecko in 3 months so I’m going to subscribe and learn more from your channel! Great work!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who started to grout then switched to my hands…. My reason was because the stuff wouldn’t stick to the corners…. Then I painted…. Didn’t like it and repainted multiple times in certain places. Also I bought one sealer and THEN bought shellac hahaha this is NOT cheaper then just buying a custom one on Etsy however….. my son needed his perfect hide so I had no choice.
I’m following this tutorial and I don’t have a heated metal thing so I made a huge mess. If you break your vacuum cleaning it up like I did, a lint roller works wonders!
I watched this because I wanted to make something like this for my Leopard gecko, the only thing I can’t do is make any sort of high overhang, because my gecko sometimes will jump off of things that are too high up. But this is cool and I want to give it a try!
Could you tint and use Dry Lock instead of grout? I use it for some of my backgrounds and really like using it. I love the look of your layers. I will definitely try that!
Love ur videos but really loving this 1!! I have 4 beardies n I've decided to make my own waterfall n hides with Styrofoam n came across this vid. I'm thankful u put this up coz we were having a hard time figuring out what was the safest material to use. U guys are lifesavers n my babies will thank u for it as well! Great work n look forward to seeing more videos like this one n all ur others!!!!
Absolutely Amazing! Thanks for the DIY help, I just might do something similar one day, when we get a pet. I really love your videos/content & even enjoy your husbands participation, he seems pretty awesome!!! Keep up the fantastic work! See you next week. ❤😎👍
THANK YOU! Y'all's tips saved me! Having a styrofoam cutter is so much better than trying to use a knife. Why don't more tutorials say that?? Also, your suggestion on the background was perfect. Just ordered a poster from Walmart for my Lizzie! 💖💖💖
It came out so nice! I wish I had the patience and creativity to do something like that. Have you ever thought about making some to sell like on etsy? Because I would buy one just saying 😊
I'm building a waterfall with a low basking spot using the same type of technique u guys used. I have it fully grouted and painted now I just have to seal it. I was wondering if the shellac is ok to use on waterfalls and still be safe for my beardies?? I want to get this project finished so my baby has it in her tank n I can then move on to finishing the huts and waterfalls for my other 3 beardies. Thanx for all ur help & advice!!!!
We do not have the same brands here in sweden as you do in US. What should i look for to know if a finish on spray is animal safe? If it's safe for aquariums with fish it's also good enough for my reptiles.
Very nice job. Going to give this a shot for my Daughter's new (and first) leopard gecko. One question I have, and my apology if you mentioned this, but how did you attach the structure itself to the tank? I would assume/think something like hot glue, but wanted to ask/confirm.
Awesome! Good luck! It's not attached, as it's pretty heavy - don't have to worry about it falling over. But you could use hot glue or aquarium safe silicone! 😊
How would you clean the hide since its foam? I have the ones you buy from the store and I usually soak them in warm water with a little amount of bleach and thoroughly rinse it.
We built a total of 5 over the last year and they are all holding up like new. It was a lot of fun to build but it took days because of all the drying in between steps. ~Elle's Husband

I see its been a year since this video was posted so is there a update with making these? I can pay for it and fly out there to get it my dragon would love this!
No, but you can put a very small wattage uvb if you'd like. Like a 2.5 or 5 watt uvb. Leopard geckos don't need them but depending on the leopard gecko you have it could benefit them, some leopard geckos don't like them. Don't put lights if you have a leopard gecko with red eyes because they have VERY sensitive eyes and it could potentially hurt them as i heard.
She actually made a hide for her Blue Tongue Skink out of expanding foam. Its holding up real well and with standing the humanity. Link below ua-cam.com/video/H04wkhnNcVU/v-deo.html ~ Elle's Husband

Yea, I use just plain, chemical free, manure free topsoil for my other leopard gecko (I've also used lugarti's in the past as well) and I've been thinking about adding a dig spot to Winter's tank too, after she's done with her semi brumation that's currently happening. She just doesn't show the same interest in digging like Percy (my other leopard gecko) did before I added her dig spot.
P.S. you could call it a "Tank-over" lol

One question with the Heating pad and the Tile does it affect the adhesive on the tile or it’s not hot enough to do much to the adhesive

Is the shellac also heat-proof? I would hate for it to melt
Is there specific lighting that leopard geckos need for their tanks?
No, but you can put a very small wattage uvb if you'd like. Like a 2.5 or 5 watt uvb. The safest is a heating pad & a normal LED light near the tank to see it (not directly)
For the horde!
Would these same materials be safe for DIY water bowls?
What size are those styrofoam sheets?
Maybe I'll use a brush 😆
Did your grout crack? Im having cracking issue
Do you have to grout? Could you leave just styrofoam?
Where do you get your foam from????? What is the best foam to use????
Does the heat pad affect the styrofoam?
I like ur accent “ Elle “! :3
How long do you wait between grout coats? Thanks.
Just until the grout is completely dry. I think we waited a day or two 😊
do you think that expanding foam would work instead of polystyrene

Because of the risk of impaction. In the wild, they're not exposed to sand in the way that many people think
