I know this is a old video but very helpful. I had no idea about this. I thought since I set up a SSD as device storage this was already done. Thanks for making the video. 2017 I switched from the FireTV to the Shield because it just a pain in the ass to hack for storage. Shield makes it easy to add but doesn't put it all on so this is a big help.

Can you plz do a video on how to enable adoptable and portable storage on with external USB device attached to firestick or mi box. I can do it on mobile. But not able to the same on mi box for instance because as soon as I enable adb USB stops to work

Great video. Glad you found these. But I did find that TiViMate will not run from the USB Drive. Moved it and refused to run, just like on the FS. Moved it back and works great.

I noticed when apps are moved to sd card on Android phones and tablets whenever there is an update from an official Google play store app that app would seem to be moved back by default to system storage. Hi, I bought a SanDisk extreme USB drive. I have an Android TV. I formated the drive on the TV, and enabled "Force allow apps" on external but it doesn't recognise the drive in the app option "storage used" or download any new apps to it. I noticed no files where moved to the drive when I formatted it unlike in the video. Could this be the reason? Any help would be appreciated
It's a relief that the portable SSD can work on Android TV Box, since I am planning to buy a SSD of 4TB.

great tutorial my friend but i have a question only just stumbled on this video and not tryed yet but does this or should it work on my car android head unit i assume they all work the same was just going to plug in an external storage on usb but like the idea of increasing storage and making acess faster as want to add lots of music and videos for a project im working on any help would be great going to check out some of your other videos now to see if can discover any other help thanks great channel
Thank`s It looked like you solved my problem as i have never seen this information yet! But it did not work still! I bought 256 gb`s SSD and added it as internal storage but, did everything you said to move the apps over to SSD but when i attempt to do it it says Not enough storage space, even though its a brand new SSD drive...lol..
Hi, when you choose the developer setting to be able to move apps from internal to external, When you download apps after this, does this effect where they are stored ? or will that part still be hit and miss ?
So did you side load the tivo stream 4k app on to your nvidia shield?

It was that fucking easy... 6-8 hours of my life consisting of research and other UA-cam tutorials, an OTG cable and ADB shell commands that crashed my system and needed factory resetting and it was simply a matter of a dev options setting to force adoptable storage. I have 2 Nvidia Shield TV & 1 Nvidia Shield Pro units. On the Pro all apps can be moved to USB attached storage, though on my other two Nvidia Shield TV (2017) models I can't move all apps only certain ones.

I take the ssd is still defined with root access and therefore this isn’t the first steps in getting apps moved that require super user access to the root directory. Can you do 50% nvidia for instance and the 50% firestick, or would both devices at creation time request the whole disk to be formatted

So I loaded a bunch of games on a flashdrive for retroarch if I format it it will erase the games if you use adb commands to format storage can you keep the games and still use the same flashdrive for app storage
