revisted ths video the other day . and setup my SSD again still working great .
I am trying this now but keep getting error "sm:inaccessible" when running adb command. Likely a NS setting I am missing. Any help/hints greatly appreciated.

@@wwmoggy Since all adb commands result in the error, the list-disk command at 11:38 of the vid also fails so can't gat a disk id. Thanks for trying.

Followed instructions, worked perfectly, just one question, when i look on my pc my shield pro is still only showing 5.62gb of 11.6gb on my mapped network drive? should be showing 197gb as i used 50% of my SSD drive.
Can anyone help? Followed all the steps but after the first command when we should see a drive number, mine doesn't? It shows multiple lines of data asking for a lot of true or false in brackets.
Any advice??

need to explain how you formatted ntfs. mbr? gpt? use all space for one partition? also i have es file explorer and file commander and when hook up usb drive it ask if i want to make this app default device?
when i connect through adb it shows large list of adb commands but shows no disk number . here is list
usuage: sm list disk
sm list- volumes(public/private/emulated/all)
sm has-adoptable
sm get-primary-storage-uuid
sm set-force-adoptable(on/off/default)
and so on

Hi if I have to do a full factory reset on my Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 as long as I disconnect my SSD drive from the shield I presume I won't have to re-do all of this ??.. obviously once setup I will have to re-enable "developer options" & enable false to write apps externally " apart from that it should still see that same partition as before ???..

No, when you create External and Internal partitions., the external can be used on any device. You can copy stuff to it and read it on any device you like. Its only the Internal partition that is restricted and can only be used on the original device where you did the format. Now, if you format the entire drive as internal storage, then yes - if you plug that SSD in to another Compuer/laptop, it won't be able to read it and the only option you will get is to format.

So I'm still wondering why exactly you would want to do this? I use an SSD drive that I plug into my computer and transfer movies to plug right back in my shield. The drive still has the Nvidia shield folder and other folders it adds...but I can still use it on my computer as well. So what exactly is the benefit of this? It's totally awesome don't get me wrong...and thanks for the info, but just wondering what you gain from doing it this way?
So you can install apps to it. For you to install your applications as "internal storage" on your external drive, it needs to be formatted in a particular way.

Hi I have a Samsung 860 SSD drive formated as NTFS attached to my Navida shield Pro with all my films all ready on it and use Kodi . Can I use my Laptop instead with Windows 10 Pro and use partion software divide the drive their and then re-attach the ssd back to the nivida shield will that still work??

Can I partition the external using a PC than just use nvidia shield to format one of the partition as internal storage? Also is there a limit on partitions nvidia shield pro 2017 can recognize?

This has some appeal to me. My NVidia has 16G of storage so expanding the storage will be necessary at some time. However, IF I were ever to consider something like Plex, a portion of the SSD would be ideal to have. My home network is a combination of Android and Mac. To partition the SSD to address the above, I would use Android. By doing this, does it exclude adding Mac content?

So when I go into the ABD app I won't have that same top line as you have? You're saying that I should put my I.P. address under the network debugging instead there?
you can just type in 127.0.0.1 which means connect to itself

Netflix doesn't like to be moved. When I forced it to the external drive, it complained the storage option isn't optimized. The storage is a Samsung 860 SSD in a 2.5 usb enclosure. I had to return Netflix to internal storage. So far it is the only app that doesn't like to be moved. No problems with Disney+ for me. Update: The Plex client and server loses audio when moved. But I erased the data from both apps and then I signed back into my Plex account and my audio returned. Pretty neat, I have 10 gigs free on my internal storage because I moved almost every streaming app to the external storage.

@ken steve @TechDoctorUK The FireTVCube definitely has more power than the FireTVStick4K and the 2nd gen Cube beats the 1st gen.
Owning both, I notice the Cube is not pressed for storage space, which soon fills up with the Stick. Performance is slicker with the Cube. It handles external storage using thumb drives on OTG in a more integrated way. Sideloaded apps install & run perfectly from a partitioned drive on both but the icons disappear more on the Cube; use a launcher to overcome this while organizing apps and hiding Amazon marketing. Widgets run on the Wolf launcher installed on a Cube but don’t install on the same launcher on a Stick. Debloating is a priority for the Stick to perform but not so much for the Cube. Kodi is best installed on a paritioned external drive as the skins and scrapers use up GB of storage.
If you follow this channel, while there are more enhancements for the Stick, the good doctor has a Cube. He works out wrinkles where possible (they are on different versions of the OS) to make most available for the Cube.

The sm partition disk command will format everything first so you will lose anything that was on there.
It gets partitioned removable storage is fine but device storage says USB drive is safely ejected
Followed the video and worked great, BUT when I had to reset the nvidia shield I lost the interval partition, only shows the removable partition, is this normal and correctable?
The internal partition is encrypted and can only be accessed by the device that initially did the format. As you wiped your device, the encryption keys are lost and therefore you won't be able to access that partition again.

can't you just make a partition on the pc in disk manager? and then add it to the shield

Is it possible to connect 2 separate physical SSD drives to the Shield (via a USB hub)? One for internal use and one for external. I have tried this and when I connected the 2nd one, to use as internal storage it ejected the one I was using for external storage. I don't know whether it's not possible to do it or it's because I'm using an unpowered hub (i.e it is powered from the Shield's USB port).
I use a powered USB hub. Works great. I'm running a 1tb hdd external and a 500gb ssd internal. I'm now curious if I can partition the ssd and use multiple externals....
Hi TDUK. just watched ur video. But as it was over a year ago and things have changed with shield I can't get the adb to recognise my ssd hard drive. I have already seet up networking and shield and my laptop recognised my SanDisk SSD. But when I try to partition some space on ssd for system storage ADB not seeing ssd drive. In settings on shield adb debugging in on and their is a lot of code between shield IP and 5555. Do u think I should include this code when inputting shield ip and 5555?

Thank you as always for your great videos. I had to restore the Nvidia Shield and now I lost that internal partition space that was created on the external SSD. So how can I return the SSD to it's original partition space so I can make this procedure again? Just by simple formatting?
Use a low level format tool on your PC to wipe the SSD and start the process again
Can this be done with my phone and a sd card that I have inserted in my phone?

How do I choose the amount of storage in each partition, I used a 128 gb thumb drive and it made 100 gb external storage and 24 gb internal how can I customize it or atleast make it 50 50
The command ends with
Mixed 50
That will give you 50% internal and 50% external

I'm having trouble doing this. I have 500gb sandisk extreme portable. I type sm partition disk:8,0 mixed 95....it waits then goes to the next line. The drive has been formatted but still 500gb
Mixed 95 means you would have 475GB for External storage and 25GB for internal apps. Have you actually tried moving something to the internal storage?
Yes that's what I want that size amount. I have tried it again and it shows device storage as internal shared and sandisk usb drive not connected. Then Removable storage is the 500gb sandisk usb

Yes I have moved a file to the Removable Storage usb drive but nothing has changed. It hasn't been partitioned I don't know why it won't do it
I had the same problem. The command does not work with 95 (don’t know why). I used 90 and it worked.
