As much as I love the Taurus and as heartbroken as I am for its discontinuation, I was even more heartbroken at the discontinuation of the Crown Vic. I think if they replaced the 4.6L 2V modular in the Crown Vic with the 3.7L V-6 and 6-speed auto, and gave the option for the 5.0L V-8, it would still be a solid car. Throw in AWD if the Panther platform could take it and you're golden. But it's too late for that now though. And I also agree about the Aussie Ford Falcon. We can't have nice things...

tell people about the Waterpump issues with the 3.5 AND the 3.7....its a 2500+++ job at the dealer, and that's only if you didn't blow the engine when the INTERNAL Waterpump lets go and dumps anti-freeze into the oil,in mass...that's why you can get a Taurus, and Exploder,I mean Explorer cheap, that's why most departments don't run them 60- 90k or so.I was at a Auction,in Maine, and found a repair receipt from Quirk Ford of Maine for 5170.00,for heads, and waterpump, timing chain !! they sent it through the auction 2k miles later! and I like Fords,I'm not hating, just spreading the word...so IF you buy one of these poorly designed loads, get ready for the Waterpump, timing chain,etc...I'm sticking with a rust free Crown Vic,or better yet,a well maintained Hemi Charger, even.Good luck, guys
When I bought my last car, I wanted to get an ex police vehicle due to many reasons, just a couple being the maintenance always done on them, the heavy duty parts, and I love the way they look. I had to make a decision between a charger, impala, taurus, or crown vic. I ended up going with the crown vic because I love the way they look, I am 6'5 so I wanted something roomy, they are super comfortable, and I wanted a v8 as well. It is a 2008, I have put over 35k miles on it, have not had one issue with it. Gas mileage isn't amazing I mean its a v8 & the car weighs over 4000 pounds but its not horrible either. I drive pretty heavy footed most of the time and a decent bit of city driving - I normally average around 18-19 mpg. I love the fact that on the highway I can haul ass in the left lane, every single car gets over once I get behind them LOL (I still have the pushbar / spotlight on my car.) The AC in this thing will freeze me out even though where I live it frequently hits over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. It is not the fastest car for sure, but I love the way the v8 sounds & it has enough power for me. I had a luxury vehicle before the vic (leather heated/cooled seats, sunroof, GPS navigation, push button start, etc) but honestly I just love the simplicity of my vic & the fact that it is so easy to work on. I plan on keeping this car for years to come and have never once regretted buying it!
You didn't substantiate any of your claims. The Ecoboost has so many mods and tunes to get to 400+ HP cheaply. The 3.7 has more chance of the water pump failing, which you don't mention. Seems more like you are suffering from Turbo envy.
@@geraldscott9446 Well that is just not true. Some turbo engines in the past have been unreliable. But the 3.5 EcoBoost is very reliable. Have seen plenty with over 300k miles. Plus they respond to mods very well I'm at 450hp at the crank with mine for very little money under $1000 in mods.
80,000 miles is nothing. I have 80,000+ miles on a Chevy Sonic 1.4 turbo. I have had nothing but trouble with it and don't expect it to last very long. I have seen Crown Vics with 400,000 miles on the original engine.
I would not normally buy a Chevy, other than vintage. Meaning back when they had carburetors. But this was an unusual situation. It was my sisters car. She was in a really bad accident as a passenger in another car, and can no longer drive. I got her a van she can get her wheelchair in, and traded it to her for the Sonic, which she had no use for anymore. I got it with 51,000 miles. Admittedly it had been abused and neglected. The oil looked like thick black paint. It still had the original DEXKILL coolant in it. I changed the oil 10 times in 5,000 miles to clean out the engine, flushed out the DEXKILL and put regular coolant in it. I've had to replace almost $1200 worth of engine parts on it since I got it. I had to replace both the intake manifold (both made out of plastic) because the PCV valve failed, and the parts are built into the cam cover and manifold. Almost $400 for a PCV valve. I do buy Fords. I have an '06 Mercury Grand Marquis, a 1972 Pinto woodgrain wagon, and a 1964 Fairlane. But turbo cars in general tend to have problems. A turbo makes no sense unless it is for performance. The turbo Ecoboost engine is designed for MPG not power. The right way to get normal power out of an engine is to use more displacement. A lot more reliable.
Known issues is for the 3.5 non eco boost, 3.7 and 3.5 eco boost they tend to have failing water pumps, transfer case and for the turboed one they can get bad also time and chains need to be replaced
WHo knows, the guys a 'tard. Buying any ex-cop car of ANY model is a bad idea, unless you get it dirt cheap and plan to have expect to pay for repairs done in the near future (ie, not something to buy as a daily driver). Those cars have had the shit beat out of them. Have you seen how cops drive those cars? They're not cars they own themselves, they just beat the piss out of them.
Any idea how these hold up over time? I am looking at a 2013 with 145K miles on it and wondering if it will hold up like the crown vic when it reaches 200k+.
3.7 and 3.5 Ecoboost have same transmission, 6F50s. The AWD cars get the the 6F55. I'll give you the Ecoboost maybe more expensive to repair when turbos are involved but it is a better engine than the 3.7 N/A.
The Taurus gets the 6f55 not a 6f50. It’s the gm/ford Co developed transmission. Also the awd ptu is junk. Lifetime fluid my ass. The water pumps in the cyclone 3.5/3.7 and ecoboost 3.5 are the same as the NA engine was the footprint for the 3.5 ecoboost.
What you’re saying doesn’t make sense. The 3.5L EcoBoost is still available, including on the Utility (Explorer). It also remains available on the civilian Explorer. The 3.7L has always been the standard engine. The 3.5L and 2.0L are more recently available engines. Of course the EcoBoost costs more to produce but it certainly isn’t “expensive “ for Ford to make given the hundreds of thousands of them produced for the civilian Explorer, Expedition, F-150, Flex, Taurus SHO, Lincoln MKS, MKT, etc. And the EcoBoost engines have been generally reliable. The 3.7L engines were the ones with CO leaks out the cracked manifolds, not the 3.5L EcoBoost engine. Realistically, this review should have been about the probable demise of the Interceptor Sedan and not about the EcoBoost engine.
Everything he said about the 3.5 being a bad engine was complete nonsense. Ford went with a 3.7L because of maintenance cost. The 3.5 is a far superior engine, creating much more horsepower and torque.
Tyler MacConnell he also said that they started using the 3.7 V6 in 2018 which is false the Taurus have been made with that engine since 2014 to present
Yes, get the 2.0 liter, work on these cars yourself; now with the 2.0 liter you may come across turbo issues and fuel delivery issues. The cars are built for getting you into another car on the dealer lot. Also, since most of the parts are Motorcraft that are breaking on it within a short time...when replacing parts get something else besides MotorCraft, I mean these are OEM parts that fail so why Would I buy that which failed before 50K miles. They say, "Oh, this cars having problems, why not buy a new one". That is the dealer you may have been taking it too and every time they fix it they break something to get you to sale it, trade it in, or buy another car from them on their lot where your car did not have problems before bringing it to them for a inspection check to stay compliant with the warranty BS...that is what happen to me at Opelika Ford in Alabama...Oil change and trying to find a noise....got the car back then the brakes went out driving from paying a bill at AT&T...they almost cause me to die... After that I never go to dealerships that will not allow me to see what they doing to my car. I'm paying them so I should be allowed to see WTF they doing. I stood at the door the entire time becasue it was clear and watched them doing extra stuff to my car I did not even ask for...later I needed something else, this is before stop going to them, the door was filmed covered to keep me from looking at them "work" on my car. They really hate when you wait on your car also.
If or should I say when the 3.5 or 3.7 water pump fails, all coolant will be immediately dumped into the crankcase thus destroying the engine. This is a no warning failure.
@@FloridaCoastalGuy RWD versions of that engine are easy repairs on the pump since it's external, but on the Terrace Explorer Edge Lincoln or anything else using the front wheel drive version of the 3.5 it is a 13 hour job if they have to drop the engine and take it apart

I've got news for ya champ, they all are AWD, at least from 2013 anyway. There really are no transmission problems as long as the fluid is changed and not letting it turn to sludge. However the PTU will go out on some of them even explode if you don't change the grease in them regularly .The 2013 3.5 naturally aspirated, MY 2014 3.7 is also AWD so you don't have to have a 2018 or newer for AWD.
Idk gotta call U out Have U driven any variations of of the 6th generation Taurus ? There's absolutely NO turbo lag on ecoboost Police, law enforcement vehicles are generally castrated by ecm detuning aka less output to add longevity & reliability. Law enforcement receive transmission ecm calibration & shift kits for later & harder shifts. Received heavy duty cooling for engines, transmissions, differentials, charging circuit, dual batteries, alternator, brake boosters, disc brake rotors, high temperature pads. Greatest part of Ford ownership is large dealership, auto parts store & aftermarket support world wide inexpensively & ease of repair & maintenance.
Uh wut?? The 6F55 / 6T70 transmission on the ecoboost is the same on the 3.7... and the same on a ton of Ford and GM cars.. Perfect? no.. but made of glass? come on man....

LOL 3 years ago I commented that I'd get one. Now I have a 2014 3.7L AWD that I am currently putting back together. It came black and white with lots of holes in it, a few rusty spots, no dome light, and so dirty that I swear the inside was never once cleaned. But it should soon be daily driver worth
The 3.7 is the same engine as the 3.5 ! A minor bore increase . BTW Ford stopped using the 3.7 in the Mustang you cannot get it currently. It’s 4 cyl ecoboost or 5.0. The problem with the 3.7 is the water pumps , they often take the engine out with them when they fail and even if they don’t it’s a 2000 dollar repair job easily ... they are anything but easy to work on ... maybe compared to the ecoboost version . As for the ecoboost police package it never should have been offered. Police service is too severe for a turbo gas application especially given many departments lack of proper maintenance the turbo version needs maintenance to be on time every time if it’s going to last long term. Finally the turbo lag is from heat soaking , cars sitting running for hours not moving and all the heat under the hood the turbo version has more piping and heat and the entire intake tract is heat soaked from the air filter to Intercooler it’s all going to lag until the car gets moving and moves that airflow and heat out the back, and cools the Intercooler off .
@@fasdfaerystdfg apparently yes: for the 3 of this family generation: 3.5 na, 3.7 and 3.5 eb But from what I understand: if you change the water pump BEFORE the suggest time (yeah the labor is quite expensive since it's like doing a timing chain job,1500-2000 total) there's no problem!
The 3.5L base I would not as it has a different transmission. The 3.5L TT and 3.7L share the same better transmission. The turbo variant is expensive to repair and like any turbo will have more issues. The 3.7L is pretty strong and fast for a V6.
Just purchased a 2016 Ford Taurus interceptor. Drives great till I got it home. Now I can’t get it out of park. Working on it but would like to enjoy my car.
As soon as you said “optional 3.7L”... you pretty much lost all credibility. The 3.7 is standard, and 3.5L EcoBoost is the option engine here. I’m no expert on these cars, but that much I know. You should probably edit or remove this video until you get your facts straight.. so people trying to do research on these vehicles before they make a purchase are actually getting correct information.
Mine I use for work is the 3.5 non turbo AWD and a few days ago it just up and developed a 8 inch crack in the transfer case. Costs about$1,000 to $1,500 to fix.
If you don't have the right credentials you can't buy a police unit from Ford. You'll have to buy a used unit and you want one that was delegated to administrative use. Even though most municipalities have good service programs, the cars that are patrol units get run really hard they have loads of hours of run-time, particularly at idle which obviously doesn't show up as mileage.
How do you tell the difference between the 3.5 L Ecoboost and the 3.7 L V6 (non-Ecoboost) when you raise the hood, look at the VIN, or look at the emission stickers on the cars? To this day it is very confusing to me!
the 3.7 is just a bores out 3.5 so they are very easy to confuse...best way is like you said...check the emissions sticker under the hood near the radiator and take the 8th digit of the vin go to autozone and they can tell you which one
The 3.5 non turbo, and 3.7 look pretty much identical, the ecoboost 3.5 has the associated piping run to the passenger side throttlebody for the twinturbos. The N/A cars go straight from the airbox on the driver side to the throttlebody.
Im looking at getting one of the non turbo 3.5 AWD's, maybe i should get a fwd to avoid a likely busted up transfer case and all that mess? i live in georgia i dont really need it
Do yourselves a favor and get an AWD version. Very stable in the rain, not as spacious and not as much window visibility. Not as much cargo space but its a fun car. I got mine from MACC autos from NC or SC, I forgot which one.Very happy.
I have a ford taurus police interceptor fwd 3.7 And the transmission broke down at 70 thousand miles. Ilove this car but it has given me a lot of problems like the gas pump
I am looking at buying a 3.5 ecoboost taurus (TT) from an auction. It’s a 2013 with 130k on it. I am not sure how many idle hours yet (the plan is to look at it on Monday). What are common issues, what should I look for, and what are they worth?
The Police Interceptor 3.7 suffers from the same killer issue as other front wheel drive 3.5, 3.7 models. The timing chain driven water pump's shaft seals fail and allow coolant to enter the water pump shaft bearings, which quickly destroys them. Once the bearings start getting chewed up, the coolant can then bypass them into the timing chain splash area and down directly into the oil pan, Short time later, engine is destroyed because of lack of lubrication. Water pump replacement runs about $1500-2000 at a dealer. If you buy a used high mile or hour Ford 3.5, 3.7 front wheel drive vehicle, allow extra $ for this required repair.

@@c59997 Ex cop cars are known to have there issues. Depends if it’s a patrol car or detective car. The 3.7 is a great engine, but the water pumps can go bad. Sorry to disappoint you, but the Aussie Falcon was removed from production in October 2016 at the same time as the Aussie Ford factories were shut down. It sucks!
I like to have room to work under the hood. I will never buy another front wheel drive smallish car like the taurus again. Do you still have to jack the engine up off of the motor mounts to change the alternator? When you change the spark plugs, or even just pull one to check it, do you have to remove the wheel well? I am looking for another Vic to put in my shop, just to store it for the future. I will keep my current Vic running well and looking good for as long as I can.
Even I think those Ford Taurus Police Interceptors are great for Forza Motorsport 8 and Forza Horizon 5 coming soon to Xbox One. Even if I work for Ford fixing Crown Victoria's and Ford Taurus Police interceptors as that kind of possibility, I can settle for that all the time saving myself money on repairs and maintenance.

I laugh every single time I hear about the Taurus being a full size car. The late 60s and early 70s Dodge Dart was considered a small car. Not a compact but a small car in most people's vernacular. It has considerably more room in it than any Taurus they've ever built.

tell people about the Waterpump issues with the 3.5 AND the 3.7....its a 2500+++ job at the dealer, and that's only if you didn't blow the engine when the INTERNAL Waterpump lets go and dumps anti-freeze into the oil,in mass...that's why you can get a Taurus, and Exploder,I mean Explorer cheap, that's why most departments don't run them 60- 90k or so.I was at a Auction,in Maine, and found a repair receipt from Quirk Ford of Maine for 5170.00,for heads, and waterpump, timing chain !! they sent it through the auction 2k miles later! and I like Fords,I'm not hating, just spreading the word...so IF you buy one of these poorly designed loads, get ready for the Waterpump, timing chain,etc...I'm sticking with a rust free Crown Vic,or better yet,a well maintained Hemi Charger, even.Good luck, guys
Nice info on the Taurus. I'm anxious to start seeing these at surplus auctions so I can get me one! -Chris
My cousin brought one today at surplus auction for $2900 a 2013 ford Taurus
I bought mine back in 2020 2014 Ford Taures only had 80,000 kms on it at the time. Only paid $6500. Hard to know if I'll ever sell her. 😂
I own the exact car in the video.. My 2013 AWD 3.7 taurus is bullet proof, literally the doors are actually bullet proof and ive never had any issues.
The Ecoboost engine is junk, and always has been. Pretty much all turbo engines are.
I own a 2013 Sho and it's got 80k miles it's all tuned and modded I don't have any issues with it. Its super fast too
@@geraldscott9446 Well that is just not true.
2016 is the last year for the Ford Falcon, btw. They no longer make them.
My 2015 SHO has no turbo lag. Not sure what he is talking about.
Any updates?
@@Kenmarshallintereststx it made it to 202k when I got rid of it and needed a new water pump which costs an arm and a leg.

I still prefer the Crown Victoria. A proven platform. Tough, reliable, easy to repair, parts plentiful. Lots of room, too.
Ecoboost is only awd.
Leland Holton both of you are incorrect
Water pumps in both the 3.5 and 3.7 are about a 9 to 10 hour labor job, just an fyi.
Really damn
Haha just commented on that!
30 min in a vic to change, while the 3.5/3.7 are run by the timing chain
Tyler MacConnell they dropped the 2.0l last year.
Everything he said about the 3.5 being a bad engine was complete nonsense. Ford went with a 3.7L because of maintenance cost. The 3.5 is a far superior engine, creating much more horsepower and torque.
Ford never even consider the 3.5 being the main engine for police interceptors it has always been the 3.7 so again your information is very wrong.
Tyler MacConnell he also said that they started using the 3.7 V6 in 2018 which is false the Taurus have been made with that engine since 2014 to present
I'm buying one to scare the poopoo outta people. 🚓
Does this engine have the water pump located in the engine?
I'm Australian and I'm honestly so jealous of American cars. The police cars especially
If or should I say when the 3.5 or 3.7 water pump fails, all coolant will be immediately dumped into the crankcase thus destroying the engine. This is a no warning failure.
If you are lucky, it comes out the weep hole and onto the ground, but is still $2000 to repair
2012 F-150 3.7L V-6 water pump started leaking at 160K, replaced only water pump it took 2.5 hours to replace, engine is a 195K now and no problems.
@@FloridaCoastalGuy RWD versions of that engine are easy repairs on the pump since it's external, but on the Terrace Explorer Edge Lincoln or anything else using the front wheel drive version of the 3.5 it is a 13 hour job if they have to drop the engine and take it apart

Well one of the 3 videos about that conversion 😆. Watched them all.
So if your looking for one of these. Only buy the 3.7L
Idk gotta call U out
Have U driven any variations of of the 6th generation Taurus ?
There's absolutely NO turbo lag on ecoboost
Police, law enforcement vehicles are generally castrated by ecm detuning aka less output to add longevity & reliability.
Law enforcement receive transmission ecm calibration & shift kits for later & harder shifts.
Received heavy duty cooling for
engines, transmissions, differentials, charging circuit,
dual batteries, alternator, brake
boosters, disc brake rotors, high temperature pads.
Greatest part of Ford ownership is large dealership, auto parts store & aftermarket support world wide inexpensively & ease of repair & maintenance.

It came black and white with lots of holes in it, a few rusty spots, no dome light, and so dirty that I swear the inside was never once cleaned. But it should soon be daily driver worth
If getting keep an eye on the PTU. They tend to crap out because of the claimed lifetime fluid which is not.
Hmmm…but if people are dumping the 3.5l turbo, might be able to pick those up cheap and be a great fun only car!?
I'm buying one tomorrow. A 2013 for 4k no problems with it.
So the regular Taurus is crap but this one with the 3.7 L is good?
Is there not a water pump issue with the 3.5?
@@fasdfaerystdfg apparently yes: for the 3 of this family generation: 3.5 na, 3.7 and 3.5 eb

@@Interceptorconcepts thank you! And what he was talking about the thing with the eco boost that it is bad or something like this?
The 3.5L base I would not as it has a different transmission. The 3.5L TT and 3.7L share the same better transmission. The turbo variant is expensive to repair and like any turbo will have more issues.
The 3.7L is pretty strong and fast for a V6.
@@Interceptorconcepts ohh thank you so much!!,so the 3.7L without a Turbo Variant and without Eco Boost is the best?

As soon as you said “optional 3.7L”... you pretty much lost all credibility. The 3.7 is standard, and 3.5L EcoBoost is the option engine here. I’m no expert on these cars, but that much I know. You should probably edit or remove this video until you get your facts straight.. so people trying to do research on these vehicles before they make a purchase are actually getting correct information.

How do you know if you have the twin turbo engine?? They hv 2 types of 3.5 liter V6's
3.7l flex fuel?
How do you tell the difference between the 3.5 L Ecoboost and the 3.7 L V6 (non-Ecoboost) when you raise the hood, look at the VIN, or look at the emission stickers on the cars? To this day it is very confusing to me!
the 3.7 is just a bores out 3.5 so they are very easy to confuse...best way is like you said...check the emissions sticker under the hood near the radiator and take the 8th digit of the vin go to autozone and they can tell you which one
So, if my emission sticker says 3.5 L, but I know it is not an Ecoboost, what is it? How much horsepower?
Look for the turbos
The 3.5 non turbo, and 3.7 look pretty much identical, the ecoboost 3.5 has the associated piping run to the passenger side throttlebody for the twinturbos. The N/A cars go straight from the airbox on the driver side to the throttlebody.

I like to have room to work under the hood. I will never buy another front wheel drive smallish car like the taurus again. Do you still have to jack the engine up off of the motor mounts to change the alternator? When you change the spark plugs, or even just pull one to check it, do you have to remove the wheel well? The FPIS is discontinued as well as the civilian Taurus. The FPIS is replaced with the short lived Fusion Police Responder Hybrid Sedan. The FPRHS will be the last sedan Ford sells to law enforcement and the first hybrid to be built for law enforcement.
I laugh every single time I hear about the Taurus being a full size car. The late 60s and early 70s Dodge Dart was considered a small car. Not a compact but a small car in most people's vernacular. It has considerably more room in it than any Taurus they've ever built.
