@@KingofNerds Well, the print turned out well...aside from the supports sticking way to well and taking a LONG time to mostly remove before I became tired and frustrated and tried to get it installed. My issue is that both of the Q2 headset straps I own have a little hook to guide it onto the arm. That hook gets in the way of the adapter so it won't go on. I guess I'll be looking for a different adapter or a headset strap specifically for the Q3.
My son just uses the battery from the quest 2 strap and plugs the cord from the battery charging port directly into the quest 3 headset and puts the battery in his pocket.
Attempted this and didn't have any luck sadly, the adapter fit on the strap fine, but when attempting to put it on the Q3, it simply split along the layer lines between the adapter halves from the twisting of the mount (Q3 doesn't have flat mounting tabs). This was with standard PLA
I hear you. I haven’t had any issues, but that doesn’t mean you did anything wrong. Brand new PLA out of a vacuumed sealed bag? Dried? I’m not a 3D printing expert so forgive me if you’ve done this already.
@@KingofNerds Yeah new filament and everything, just seems it's too brittle and stiff to be used for this. I'd suggest to anyone making these to make em out of ABS or at least PLA+ to make their lives easier and have a shot of them not breaking. Sadly, a roll of filament will cost me 2/3rds of what it costs to buy a Q3 strap from amazon, so is hard to justify just for this 1 item.
Understood. I can attest I’ve not had the PLA prints break on me, and as far as I know, those for whom I made the brackets haven’t had any issues, but their lack of reporting back to me isn’t proof they didn’t break. Regardless, good advice and I appreciate the input! Contact me via my email address on the contact tabs of my UA-cam channel page. I’ll print a couple out and send them your way. I’d love for you to benefit from them, and I’ll send you a couple pair from different PLA in case one pair breaks.
Hey, thank you for the only video in the internet about the topic. I have one question, does the Q3 still use and take power from the OG Q2 elite strap battery? Is it possible to be charged? I'm really disappointed by Meta accessories. Quite overpriced Q2 strap, incompatible even on firmware level with other headsets. Mine broke on both sides after few gentle uses and had to "repair" it with 3M skotch tape. I'm never buying Meta accessories again.
Thanks so much for your comment! The Quest 3 accepts power from the Quest 2 battery strap, buy it treats it like any old battery you connect from a third-party. So, you'll see the charging lighting bolt on the battery in the interface, but you won't see the indicator that the Quest 3 recognizes the Quest 2 battery. I've noticed the Quest 2 Elite battery drains rather quickly, which may just be its age, but I suspect it's due to the Quest 3 not using the Quest 2 Elite battery intelligently, like it should with the native Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery. I agree that the Meta accessories have been pricey, and the Elite 2 strap breaking seemed like something they would have seen in testing. In fact, I ended up buying the Quest 3 strap AND IT DOESN'T WORK. The Quest 3 sees the Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery for about 2 seconds, then disconnects. A lot of people are haven't this issue and are getting them replaced. I can confirm that a friends Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery worked without issue with my Quest 3, proving it's the strap and not the Quest 3 or firmware. And really, the only reason I continue to purchase the Elite Strap is because it's so much nicer looking than something like the BOBO. Let me know how it goes for you!
@@KingofNerdsThank you very much for this reply. At this point I don't own Q3. I'll be looking to buy one after I sell my current Q2, eventually. Unfortunately my old strap don't have much value in the aftermarket been "broken", so will probably keep it. In the reviews online it looks like Q3 drains almost double the current than Q2 and that's the reason Q2 batteries drains faster or non-efficiently.
I can guarantee the Quest 3 drains batteries quickly. With the Quest 2 battery connected it drains much quicker than when connected to the Quest 2, although I suspected this was due to the Quest 3 not recognizing the battery as a native Quest strap battery. It looks like a new firmware is out as of yesterday that is supposed to help with this.
@@KingofNerds just installed the 3d printed parts onto my quest 3, was quite hard to put them on but they eventually clicked into place, it’s been working really well with the quest 3, even more comfortable than the 2!
Was wondering if this would work with the kiwi elite headset with headphones for quest 2? Sorry I don’t even own a quest two just have been wanting to find one with over ear headphones for when my quest 3 comes so I don’t really know how the mounts look or work
The provided in the video may work, but this model found on Thingiverse seems to address the Kiwi Elite specifically. I’d love to hear if this worked for you! www.thingiverse.com/thing:6274190
Yeah - there is a slight curve to it, so press it into the curve of the strap and just hold it there. I know, it sounds ridiculous, but it will form to it after a moment. I ran into the same and it manages to stay connected. If that doesn’t work, you could change the material and print another pair. So instead of PLA use PETG, or vice versa.
I'm hoping someone could answer this. I accidentally got a headstrap for quest 3 thinking it was for the quest 2 and I'm trying to see if a quest 3 headstrap is capable of working for a quest 2. I haven't found anything online about a quest 3 headstrap going with a quest 2 but I'd greatly appreciate an answer from you. Thank you.
This would require an adapter to convert the Quest 3 to the Quest 2, which is hard to find since everyone wants to convert the other way. An adapter would have to be designed. I didn’t create the one featured in the video, but you could consider contacting its creator, Haydn Bao. His contact info is on his Printables page here: www.printables.com/@haydnbao_164396 Good luck!
i rebuilt it. Unfortunately, the strap on the side becomes so thick that the USB charging plug no longer fits completely into the socket. It then no longer charges reliably for me. Now i know why you didn't take a picture of it ;-)
@@motionbasti I did, and I had success connecting the cable, as well as turning it around. The issue is likely a difference in head size, where a smaller head brings the cable closer to the USB-C port on the Quest 3. Try putting it on without the cable connected, tighten the strap as usual, then feel the cable end by hand and plug it in backwards. I know that’s not much of a solution as it’s not very practical, but it may circumvent the problem.
It will, but the Quest 3 won’t recognize it as a Quest and not use it efficiently, meaning it will drain faster than if you had the Elite Strap for Quest 3. Do you think you’ll print the adapters?
I’m afraid not, as the part that connects the Elite Strap for Quest 2 to the Quest 2 is too small for the Quest 3, which is why the adapters are required.

I really do not want to buy another headstrap...the Bobo 3 looked promising, yet it did not receive the same praise as the 2nd version; its rated at 3.5-4/5
I think 50% or more is accurate. It really just trays the Quest 2 strap like any other battery. And the BOBO is really nice if you get an opportunity to try it out!
