No Filming Allowed! Micanopy, FL Antique Shopping

- I visited a small town in central Florida that I've heard great things about, unfortunately many of the small stores where closed the evening I went and two of the places did not allow video recording! I still found a few interesting things and had a great time shopping in historic Micanopy Florida!

When Places don’t want you to film It makes me think they’re shady like they’re trying to hide something..
Exactly, it’s free marketing and who wouldn’t want that!
Yes ! Thats exactly what i was thinking
Yep, especially when there's fake pieces 😮
It makes me think that they respect the idea that other customers might not want to be bothered by someone recording and narrating when they are trying to relax and shop…thrilled they don’t allow filming. By the way many Goodwills don’t either THANK GOODNESS!!
@@marydumois4242 they aren’t doing that for a long time. They’re probably only in that store for an hour. Maybe two.
I love how you are doing the little towns. Thank you.
The amber candle "cover" is not a cover (as you see it was hard to pick up), it is actually a votive holder meant to be on a tripod or hanging. :)
Jeffrey, I just want to tell you how much I appreciate you teaching us things as you shop. Now I know how to look for real Roseville pottery.
You did a great job making the best of a tough situation .
Even though you didn’t video you did well with still pictures and commentary. Great job!
Thank you Jeffery for taking us along on another.of your shopping trips. I'm coming up on two years of following you on UA-cam. You were the 1st reseller that I bought things from. In these 2 years I have learned so much from you. Everyone of your shopping trips have not only fun to watch but so informative. Thank you Jeffery!!
If you ever want to take a road trip go to Arcadia. Their man street is full of antique malls. Fun place.
Wow, those knock offs were sad. That collector either got taken for or knew and was hoping their buyers would be as versed as you. Great video
I appreciate all the work that goes into your videos, always so well done, great editing.
Jeffrey I think that the candle cover is actually a candle holder. its meant to sit inside an iron ring and you can put a small pillar or a taper and there can be many attached together making like a chandalier....nice for the garden...
I have visited Micanopy also and it really caters to tourists, hence the high prices-still, like you said, it is a cute little town and fun to walk around in. I think you did a great job with the photos at the last mall-it flowed very nicely.
Even though you couldn't record your photo's were fantastic.
Delectable collectables is Monica's shop. She is well known for cameos. If you need to know anything, buy or sell, she's your go to person. Also american art pottery! Fabulous!
Not always the quantity but the quality is what counts - also a beautiful day in a new place that actually looked👀 super cute👍👏😊
I am definitely an art snob....I went to so many museums and art galleries with my grandmother when I was young, she taught me to recognize good art from bad art, paintings, prints, sculptures, you really do have a good eye,the art that you buy are quality pieces(I would buy them myself)😅
I like Jeffery because he gives you the information about the stores. People may want to shop for themselves. I like amethyst glass and most people don't buy it I noticed ....I would think filming would be free advertising...
Hi Jeffery, the biscuit jar at 3.9 minutes is actually a cookie jar, the princess pattern by Hocking glass company. Made 1931 to 1935. I collect that pattern.
Pretty little town! Thanks for taking pics for us.
Hi Jeffrey I've been following your channel for a while you seem so much happier now that you're back in Florida. What a sweet little town! Thank you for the terrific video and for sharing your knowledge. Did the fake pieces of Roseville have price tags at authentic Roseville?
Seems like you are truly enjoying your new life. I'm happy for you!
Florida is a tourist state so prices are typically higher overall. There are many quaint places in that area. One of my favorite was Cross Creek where Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings lived and wrote “The Yearling.” There was a restaurant at her place years ago but think it is now a museum. Cute little haul.
I like this format (with the photos) as something different.
I love the candle cover. Makes a great paperweight!!!
Great video. I just purchased the book that you pictured- Alfred Hair "Heart of the highway men." I am looking forward to reading it. Thanks for telling us what you learned about the highwaymen!
Jeffrey I am obsessed with the antique milk glass. I loved that you showed the “Barber bottle” I would’ve paid the $30 for it! So pretty! You are the one who got me started on the love of antique milk glass(mold markings and all, the more the merrier).
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. So smart!!
What an adorable little town. A shame that the pickens were slim but that milk glass piece is stunning.
I live in GA. Near Atlanta so our weather is similar to yours. It was freezing the other day and warm yesterday. I went into work with a coat on and came out so warm. Love it warm .
So do I 😊 I didn't enjoy that late frost, I lost a lot of my peaches despite covering them, but that's how it goes. Hope the orchards fared better.
Another great video! Thank you, Jeffrey.
In my experience, as a 30 year resident of Florida, antique and vintage shops are aimed for the tourist trade and prices are on the top end side. I found that the estate sales and auctions are the best sources. Enjoy seeing Fla homes, and scenery. Just so glad I don't live there anymore. Enjoy Fla and carry on.
The pics with a voice over was a great idea!
Such fun shopping in this quaint little town. So sad that people are selling “Roseville” that is so obviously not. The clay color alone should be a red flag. Glad that you are educating people about it. As that can be a costly mistake.
Yes, I like these little towns too. And glad he tells us about the fake Roseville 😊
What a wonderfully creative work around to not being able to film! I’m guessing it was a bit more work for you, but be assured it wasn’t painful at all to view. Thanks!
MICANOPY is my old stomping grounds. I have several friends who own shops there. Great resource for stuff I don't know, even though been in business for 45 years!
Micanopy is where Back to the Future was filmed. Haven't been there in many years. Thank you for sharing this beautiful little town with us. Don't understand why they don't allow filming in the shops, very dumb on their part!
Hollywood Doc.
Not Back to the Future it was Doc Hollywood
oh that would have been neat if back to the Future was filmed there because I love that series.
Sorry guys, was misinformed. All these years I thought it was back to the future. Store of my life! Still a beautiful location.
@@WildCardTraders I believe you are correct.
I loved the green glass elephant…..beautiful shape. And I also appreciate you pointing out the fake Roseville pottery mark….the decoration is so obviously amateurish.
Thanks for taking us! 😀
Great video. Nice that you are showing the town. Did not know about the highwayman art. I like it.❣️
Micanopy is so pretty...shame they wouldn't let you film.
Hi! This is my first time watching you. Great antique shopping trip. Thanks for the lesson on the glass pieces. Really enjoyed your video.
That also worked very well, the pictures and the voiceover. 👍🏻😃
Thanks for interesting shop along. I like learning from you. ❤
Love the amethyst! Happens to be my birthstone (February) had a bunch of jewelry until got robbed (thank God I wasn't home, although they beat up my very friendly cat, if I had seen that they would be lucky to be alive!!!) I do hope you have an alarm system at your home. If not get one😁
I’d use the candle cover as a candle holder on a paperweight holder. One the point can go in on. Love the color.
Ohh you should have bought the pink and grey tea cup and saucer for yourself, it was neat and matching your sitting room walls😊☺💖🖤
Roseville should also have "USA" stamped on it.
Murano Glass is a consortium of approved artist. Not all glass made on the island is Murano Glass.
That's an interesting thought. Not sure I've ever heard that considering if it's marked "made in Murano Italy", it would be factually correct. maybe there is a separate label or sticker approved by this group you're mentioning that offers an authenticating process. stickers are so often faked unfortunately, so you have to go by quality at the end of the day. I really believe artists should individually etch their names in the bottoms and sign them to give more provenance anyway and that's not something I've seen a ton on Murano glass pieces.
@@RealNiftyVintage It wouldn't be correct. Many glass makers/ shops on the island counterfeited items and mislead tourists there. Agree artists should sign. They used stickers. An article said some of the approved artist of the consortium could not afford them, so those pieces never marked.
Then there's the issue of dozens of "fake tags".
All info available online.
Love Micanopy, I lived in Reddick which is the next town over. Very pricey but beautiful place!
I love all the information you provide
Cute little town. Nice items 😊
Lovely town 🎉
I spent much of the winter in northern Florida and if I had to live there, it definitely would be Micanopy although I would have to shop else due to the prices. I found a piece of Roseville in a thrift shop at home marked $5. It was real and I pointed the low price to the manager saying I wish I could afford it. I assumed she would raise the price to a realistic level for this Zephyr Lily vase, and she sold it to me for $5! I shop there a lot…..Enjoyed your tour of Micanopy, a lovely little town.
As always I appreciate your effort and finds. Thanks Jeffery. 🫶
Fun,love the purple bowl 🎉
I wish you had bought yourself the “Grand-Daddy of all flamingos” what a beautiful little town Jeffrey ❤️🐩
The town is adorable. Next time I’m in the Central Florida area, I will visit it.
So strange that they didn't allow filming but photos were ok...? Makes no sense, to me. Thank you for always teaching me things. Great prices on those 4 items you picked up.
Winter park looks like that town also ❤ 🌴 your central FL viewer 🌴 🖐 😊
Adkins antique mall has auctions also!
This was great. Smart thinking …worked well
Fun area! I just want to be Warm! Oregon still cold
I used to live in Gainesville FL for a brief time. I did not know how to pronounce most of the Indian names. I kept saying I was going to "My Canopy". I was quickly informed how wrong I was.
The fairy lamp is from the mid 60's. I had one bought new but have since given it to my daughter
Love the milkglass.😀
I do not get why some places do not want you to film. Don't they realize it's basically free advertising for their store? Its 2023, get with the program shops!
EXACTLY! Connecting to thousands of Jeffrey's followers for free! ... dum-dums
I agree, what are they hiding? That's OK, Jeffrey invites us into his home and that's a good place to be!
Crime is off the charts.
I understand why. They don't know who you are with the camera. Could be someone filming the store to perhaps come back later and rob them. My opinion.
@@bethb7965 I could see that for a shop full of diamond jewelry, but all they have to do is pull up his YT channels... Jeffrey doesn't exactly look like a thief .. plus the shops aren't crowded .. they could ask for ID & make a copy .. but in the end... it's THEIR shop!! Their rules!! 😁
I really enjoy walking around with you in the shops but not being able to film didn't turn out to bad because you explained a lot of what you saw and what the items were in the photo's. Those were some really interesting streets I especially liked that tree that had the long hanging branches. It looked like a great tree for Halloween. Hahaha
I wonder if the brown pyramid could have an LED little votive light inside it. I was shocked you said Micanopy correct. I believe River Phoenix was born around there. I think it's sad you couldn't film. It's a cute little town.
Love the green elephant!
Jeffrey I love your shirt!
That flamingo would look great on your lanai and the flamingo painting would look nice on the green wall in your bedroom, maybe in a different frame though 🦩🐕 kisses to Stella
Im sorry u went threw that no filming crazy!! One time some some stole my antiques n i found them in a antique shop.🤨 it upset me very much terrible.
Sounds like my ex boyfriend. ug
I love Micanopy!
Jeffrey thank you
Hi Jeffery! Is there a difference in a biscuit jar and a cookie jar? For a novice like myself they look the same to me. Have a nice weekend, enjoyed your kayak trip the other day, absolutely beautiful!💜
Usually biscuit jars are slightly smaller, though not always, and refers to English biscuits, which are our cookies. The size is one thing but also the style and if it is a piece from England or styled after something coming out of England, would be appropriate. cookie jars made in America would most always fit the term, but even made in China from the past few decades, usually also cookie jar. biscuit jars are usually cylindrical and under 10 in tall, though not always.
@@RealNiftyVintage thank you so much for clearing that up for me. I was aware of the English biscuits being our cookies but had no clue there is a difference in the size , shape and manufacturing location.
The talking over the photos worked
Your videos are always great. Since you have blue eyes, you must wear sun glasses. Please research it and use them. Thank you my friend.
Doc Hollywood (not Back to the Future) was filmed here. A small town that had to reinvent itself by becoming an antique and collectible destination. Their annual Festival in the fall is a great place to spend a day and your money.
The convenience store/gas station out on the highway named Pearl's is by far the best BBQ place in north Florida. If you're still in the area, you must try it.
Pearl’s is wonderful! Great breakfast sandwiches too! Blue Highway Pizza on the other corner is awesome as well!
Yes for sure! Their BBQ is outstanding! Baked beans, Mac and cheese, all sides. Go hungry!
Loves fairy lamps
Really pretty town but high prices. Still a fun video!
Good idea about pics instead. I liked the mix.
Love your shirt!
I love Micanopy, been there many times.i don’t remember back. To the future being filmed there but Doc Hollywood definitely was filmed there with Michael j fox . Love that move. Anything with micharl j fox in it was good. I looked it up and back to the future was filmed entirely in California so the person who said it was , was thinking of Doc Hollywood with fox. Honest mistake.I grew up in Gainesville Florida. Gosh I miss Florida.
Love your shirt you're wearing here 😀
Love your shirt ❤
Micanopy is one of those towns it's fun to hear tourists mispronounce, lol. Also Matlacha.
Looks like your shirt is a winner!
Doc Hollywood was filmed there, always wanted to drive up and look around.

Friendly chat, if you haven't been. You can lurk too 😂
Have you been to the mosaic house in Dunedin yet? Check it out sometime...cute town.
Great finds! Sorry you couldn't record.
My daughter and I have been there! Hope you tried the ice cream shop!
I live in Ohio and always wondered how you were allowed to film in stores . For years I have been told no pictures or filming allowed .
Haven't been to the smaller shops, just the Antique City Mall. Sometimes the people there are friendly, but one lady in particular watches me and hubby like a hawk. We bring all our finds up as we find them so we don't drop them, I am not a fan of shopping carts in antique malls.
It always amazes me when proprietors do not want you to record. It's FREE advertising for them. I have only had that problem a few times. But there is an Estate Sale Company in my town that will not let me film. That particular Estate Sale Company is so overpriced that I just don't even go until the last day at 50% off. Even then, the prices can be way out of the realm to resell the items.
I didn’t realize you moved to Ocala!!! I moved to Tavares last summer. I can’t wait to go to some of these places.
Curious if you're liking Tavares? It's on my short list of places to maybe retire.
@@flaval24 Although we live on Lake Harris, I would actually prefer Mount Dora for the downtown area. It depends if you like the charm of a cute bustling downtown (like Mt Dora) or the fishing and boating the lakes provide.
@@rachelhollis25 thank you so much, that is a big help. I'd also rather have an actual downtown nearby; so far Mount Dora & DeLand are at the top of the list.
Your a great teacher
We are lucky he has a lot of knowledge 🎉
Love the shirt!❤
👍❤️🙏🇨🇦. LOVE THE FAIRY LAMP👍
Really pretty
crazy don’t they know that’s free advertisement! i don’t get it . by the way thanks for the heads up on ur personal blog i just sub i had no idea u had another one other than ur vintage live sal channel .
Cute shirt!
