      a little bit of slow,
      a little bit of stop,
      a little bit of go"
      (A. Fishman, sometime in the last 30 years... 😅)
      As you can see from my little ditty above, mixing up the retrieve is the best thing to try. Throw in lots of little pauses. The easiest way to do this is with small rod tip movements back and forth. As you pull the line the lure speeds up, when you drop back towards the lure it slows/ pauses depending on the wind rate. You often find the fish hit just as the lure kicks back into motion. There are other little tricks but you don't say what lure you are using, so the easiest advice is to mix up the retrieves. Slow, faster, fastest.

    Great vid shroom, 8 days ago I hooked a decent flathead between 60cm-70cm. I had gotten it out of the structure and up onto the waters surface. I had no net and my 10lb fluro snapped. How can I land larger fish without a net, just trying to lift/drag them out seems to be failing me, do I need to tighten/loosen drag?? Thanks for your help Shroom, looking forward to next weeks vid.

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  7 місяців тому +2

      Spewing Peter, try to just beach it or at least keep it's head under the water. I try to lift it from the stomach rather than rely on the leader for flathead especially

    • @AndrewFishman
      @AndrewFishman 7 місяців тому

      Don't try to lift a fish slowly. If bank flipping, wind into about half a rod length to the fishes head, hold the rod about the first eye and at the butt end and then in one SMOOTH motion lift from the eye using the butt to guide and add downward pressure. Load the rod and allow it to lift the fish out of the water and swing the fish to the bank IN ONE SMOOTH MOTION!. DO NOT try this if you have overstrung your rod (used 10 kg line on a 4-6 kg rod for example) You will break the rod. Do not try this if you are using a wind on double of similar rating to the rod (4 kilo double on 4 - 6 rod even is bad) again, broken rod is risked. Do not play with the drag, too loose and you will just pull line from the reel, give slack and lose the fish. Too tight, bust off or broken rod.
      In short, lip grips or net are easy, belly lift is next preference, bank flipping if too high to belly lift as Shroom recommends.

    Hey bro I don’t know how heavy your gear is but maybe go a bit heavier so you can really wreath the fish up and focus on those bigger ones if that’s what might bring you more excitement, maybe have one bait rod to go for bream/flatties/maybe a lucky jew as a by-catch - middle harbour/port Jackson can yield some big sharks and rays too for a challenging and exciting fight in between too. I caught a ray that was as heavy as me I reckon bro! About 1.5m in diameter and probably 40cm+ in thickness bro hahaha. Snapped a 4-8kg snapper rod on it while I was capturing video of it a couple years ago 😂😂 will never forget it. Massive runs in that system too bro, either sharks or huge Jews. Can’t wait til the day I land one. I always find I’m too light with my setup, need to get a stronger rod and use 30lb plus braid mainline + 50lb leader to make sure I don’t get smoked on those giants LOL - sometimes I have the big rod out with a big bait and catch a giant on the slice of pilly I got out for bream too though so… 😂😂😂 🎶”isn’t it ironic”🎵😂
    But yeah bro! Would love to see you land some monsters, I know how frustrating it can be pulling up pinky after pinky sometimes bro - don’t get me wrong I know you catch some big boys, but yeah, just my thoughts particularly on the northern Sydney waterways as they’re where I’ve spent the most time to fish myself and I have the most fun doing so.
    Port hacking is awesome too, but don’t know it well enough myself!
    Parra river is a here and there thing for me lol. 🤢 😂
    North Syd is awesome for the monsters which lie under the surface in my experience, always that element of wonder as to what giant creature might be lurking out for the night to rival me in… MORTAL KOMBAT - hahaha nah 😂 but yeah! So much fun!
    Happy fishing shroom my brotha!!!

    • @GulpAction
      @GulpAction 7 місяців тому +1

      Are you using lure or bait? If it's bait, just out your finger on the line, there will be vibration when it bites.
      For lure, I didn't really put my finger on the line, I never really caught anything on lure.

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  7 місяців тому +2

      You can feel it or you can see the line give a light sudden twitch. Just imagine a fly hitting your line that sort of small flicker on the line

    • @AndrewFishman
      @AndrewFishman 7 місяців тому +1

      @@GulpActionWhen you get something on lure, you really don't need much of an indicator unless you are slow fishing a soft plastic, but that is or a bit later on in your progress. For now, watch for tics or feel for them on the drop (when the lure is sinking to depth after a cast) if using soft plastics, vibes, spinners or spinner baits. Good fish often pick these up on the drop and you have to be ready to hit them when they do. Cranks you generally know when a fish hits when they try to take your rod home with you.
      It pays to count down the drop on a sinking lure and, if you get a hit, you know what depth the fish may be feeding or sitting and count down to that depth again for a couple of retrieves.
      Hope these hints help you get some fish on lures. It is great fun and very exciting.

    cool vid shroom ! Man you gotta get a yak ! it will open up so much territory for you and all you need is some roof racks to get it there . one thing i never got around to up in north harbour was fishing surface lures at night at high tide right up over the shallow reefs . a lot of the places you fished there are under water at high tide and the bream come right in there at night to feed on either the oysters or green nippers ( clickers ) that live under the smaller rocks . we used to fish unweighted clickers or pink nippers off folly point at night , we caught some real horsed sized bream back then and i bet they are still there ! They would swim up over the reef with their backs out of the water to dig around under the rocks - we knew what they were after - clickers and used to go all the way to brisbane waters to get them as sydney harbour is a sanctuary zone so no bait gathering like that allowed. i reckon a small unweighted Zman grub in motor oil rigged weedless would clean up - flick it out over the reef and hop it back slowly . You could also add a rattle to it ( z mann rattlesnaker ) which would make it sound like a clicker .

    • @AndrewFishman
      @AndrewFishman 7 місяців тому +1

      I love rattles. I was asking about them a couple of weeks ago at a local tackle shop, they had none. Went back i last week and they had them in stock just for me :D Good service that is! I id not even order them, just enquired.
      CI love unweighted, or you could couple them with a Jigspin and a light jig head and you are onto a winner for sure.

      @@mombus5938 Try small paddle tails fished erratically and creature baits, fished very slowly and in fits and darts, like prawns move. Bream are fairly easy. The way I usually find out if there are any on the take is to bait a circle hook with bread, throw that out, and slowly wind back, When I get hit, I know there are fish, so put a plastic on the circle hook, either unweighted or with a small running sinker if using creature, wriggle tails, or on a jig head for curl or paddle types. you can get them concentrated and feeding by regularly putting handfulls of bread out and fishing through the clouds of pickers that ensue.
      The burley is not about attracting big fish so much as attracting things the big fish might eat that might also look like your lure. :)
      If none of this works, switch to vibes and blades for a throw and see if they get some interest.
