History about Surabaya Kota Tua: A lot of it burned down during the war and the owner rebuilt it in newer style of the 40’s and 60’s, since this area is still very active business area unlike Kota Tua Jakarta, so you wouldn’t find Museums or Cafes but Shops and Warehouses. Only during certain days of festival you can enjoy the touristic atmosphere of the area, but otherwise there is nothing. 14:07 this is actually really interesting for me as Indonesian,.the name Kembang Jepun, could be translated as "Flower of Japan". The flower here could also euphism for women, so this place in past actually a red district with a lot of Geisha,.which is interesting because they are located in area where Chinese actually quite dominant,.🤔
@@PekebunMager that's why i found this interesting,.if we look back at our history books, there are several Indonesian historian that found that there are a lot of Geisha in this area back in the day because this place used to be huge economic hub. The reason why there are no more geisha is because Japanese government start found this phenomenon as degrading..
@@ArunaInsight okay just adding the extra point for confusion, so the japanese government pulled all of their geisha since they dont wanted to compete with the chinese ones...?? It is fascinating actually

Surabaya in the past was the only one that was dubbed the city of heroes in Indonesia, because all of its people took the initiative to openly declare war on the colonialists, namely the Netherlands and England. And because of the strategic location of Surabaya with the port, it is the entry point for trade in eastern Indonesia. Modern-day Surabaya was led by Tri Risma Harini, who was once the best mayor in the world because she was able to maintain a traditional village in an urban environment, and made innovations in bureaucracy and administration, as well as in the environment, so that Surabaya became increasingly popular. many international awards won one of them being the most popular city in the world. Hi please visit Malang to Bromo mountain. don't go Tumpak Sewuand the beachs in South of Malang, you can't go there for a couple days now. high flood just hit this area towards tumpak sewu. cant'access. Happy travelling dude
Hi Natalie Charles. Every city in Indonesia has an "OLD KOTA" which is a designation for areas that still have ancient buildings. Colonial heritage buildings that are still being cared for by the community Around. For example Semarang, Jakarta, Jogja, Surabaya, etc. they still have classic colonial buildings. Which in the past was used as a trading center, office of officials, etc
Try Rawon in Surabaya. It is their signature dish. Find Rawon setan there. You can also find sate klopo. Be careful, their nasi campur is spicy, unlike jakarta's. Damn.. I am looking for lontong balap in Jakarta desperately, FOR AGES, couldn't find a good one. You guys made me want to come home. Miss those food.
Yours eyes so beautiful like barbie and so Blue Finally Carles is back . Enjoy to surabaya . Don't forget visit Madura from suramadu bridge and try food bebek sinjak Fakta sesungguhnya Dulu Surabaya itu Panas dan kotor tapi semenjak dipimpin ibu Risman , surabaya menjadi bersih dan tidak terlalu panas karena banyak Taman dimana2 dan beberapa kali mendapat penghargaan local maunpun internasional
My friend if you wanna enjoy many beautiful places in lndonesia, you should travel around lndonesia from sabang to merauke because land is a huge and large country ,,, lndonesia has many many beautiful places ,,,, have a nice trip
What I like about your channel is that you always show positivity spirit and getting it easy vibes while exploring Indonesia. I know that sometimes it’s infuriating or stressful especially when you traveling around with public transport as you were. I knew it because, even as a local, I also get stressful too when I did that! 😅 non-fixed schedule, non-fixed price, subpar facility, etc, etc. , but somehow, you just get managed to get along well with it. I see that we’re trying to be better on these regards. Maybe it’s not that fast, but I knew that we will reached a better public transport development somehow in the future. Buying a thousand bus/train is easy, but to develop a system and people who understand that it needs to be maintained, fixed, and managed, is hard. Doing it too fast, and there is a group of people that could protesting with whatever reason it is (Praise to God that we are living in democratic country anyway, it’s also their right to voice their concern). Well, enjoy our country and stay safe 😊
Aww thank you ❤️ it’s true Indonesia doesn’t have the best public transportation in some places.. BUT we absolutely LOVE angkots!!! They’re so convenient 😍
Surabaya is known as the city of 'Heroes'. Because here there was a great battle between Indonesian fighters and allied troops (Dutch and British) who wanted to re-colonize Indonesia after our independence from Japan. At the beginning of independence, Russia really helped Indonesia's war equipment (ships, submarines and fighter planes) to defend our independence.
Welcome to surabaya! Fun fact, in the national monument park, the place is also a mass grave for Surabaya residents who died in the war, we remember it as Heroes' Day which falls on November 10, that's why Surabaya is also known as the city of heroes. And at the bottom there are also museums. And yes, we have a lot park/garden here ❤
Thank you for visiting the "City of Heroes" - Surabaya, hope to find many hidden gems there ... happy exploring the journey in Surabaya, Nat & Charles !
The most important thing that is often put forward to Indonesia that you may often see is diversity, ethnicity, language, culture and religion where you usually coexist and respect each other, hopefully it can be a separate experience for you while in the country with the largest Muslim population in this world.
You should visit Surabaya in October n Novembre, the time that Tabebuya flowers will bloom all over the city of Surabaya, yes tabebuya trees planted in all area in surabaya, it's like Sakura flowers from japan but it's more colourful like white, red, blue, orange, purple, yellow,,, surabaya more colourful when tabebuya bloomed, but in novembre surabaya also very hot like hell, you can cook eggs in wok directly from the sunrays without fire
13:26 Well, the Old City of Surabaya is actually bigger than that of Chinatown. There are the Arab Quarter (Ampel area), the Chinese Quarter (the one that you were walking on, and the Dutch Quarter that is spanning from Tunjungan Street to Gemblongan and Bubutan. Most part of the Old City has been occupied by Chinese businesses and now becoming stores, warehouses and factories.
6:08 And those bars are to prevent motorcyclists using the pedestrian paveway. It is also designed to allow people with wheelchairs to pass by. That small space is wide enough for the HEAD of the person in a wheelchair to go through. However, for pedestrians somehow these bars are not wide enough especially those with big body.
That’s so cool they designed them to be wheelchair friendly! Although yes, it is quite inconvenient when you’re walking 😅 although I guess it’s good you won’t get run over by a motorcycle!
14:39 Lontong balap. One of the ingredients is the trassie, or fermented shrimp paste, and petis, the fermented fish sauce. Somehow those ingredients may incite an allergic reaction, or in some cases: diarrhoea.
Amazing video.. Please try spicy little first..you pur chilly little in corner already good step..As Indonesian..i feel surabaya is spicier food.. Enjoy your adventure.. Mantap/very good

That’s so cool all the cities have that ❤️
❤ watching both of u back together, I enjoyed great views Carles took with the drone.
Thank you ❤️ we’ll have some drone shots in the next video!

Try Rawon in Surabaya. It is their signature dish. Find Rawon setan there. You can also find sate klopo. Be careful, their nasi campur is spicy, unlike jakarta's.

My friend if you wanna enjoy many beautiful places in lndonesia, you should travel around lndonesia from sabang to merauke because land is a huge and large country ,,, lndonesia has many many beautiful places ,,,, have a nice trip
There are so many places to visit in Indonesia! 😍
Hai Charles, welcome back content with you... 😊

There’s so much food to try in Indonesia! 😍
Kembali lagi ke indonesia.hppy enjoi bro di indonesia.

Oh wow we didn’t know Russia helped Indonesia a lot 😱❤️
Welcome to surabaya!
Fun fact, in the national monument park, the place is also a mass grave for Surabaya residents who died in the war, we remember it as Heroes' Day which falls on November 10, that's why Surabaya is also known as the city of heroes. And at the bottom there are also museums.
And yes, we have a lot park/garden here ❤
😱 we didn’t know about the mass grave. But yes, we loved all the parks in Surabaya! 😍
Welcome to my city Surabaya, you must try to eat semanggi Surabaya ITS delicious

@@NataliesPassport yup the taste is amazing
Thank you for visiting the "City of Heroes" - Surabaya, hope to find many hidden gems there ... happy exploring the journey in Surabaya, Nat & Charles !
Thank you ❤️
The most important thing that is often put forward to Indonesia that you may often see is diversity, ethnicity, language, culture and religion where you usually coexist and respect each other, hopefully it can be a separate experience for you while in the country with the largest Muslim population in this world.
It’s so cool how diverse yet unified Indonesia is! 😍
"Kota Tua" literally means "Old Town". So its different in Jakarta(Dutch), Surabaya(China), Semarang(Dutch) and other city in Indonesia.
Ahh thanks for the explanation! ❤️
Don't forget visit submarine museum,
We only saw inside the submarine ❤️
Surabaya city Hero war duck and Britania Raya 😊memories death jendral malaby in surabaya jadi kota sejarah singkat in surabaya 😊city
finally carles is back again, surabaya is very good, next try to go to Labuan Bajo or Komodo Island, I hope you are always healthy ❤
Yesss - he’s better now 🥰 we’d love to go to both of those one day! 😍
That sounds amazing! 😍
We didn’t have very long in Surabaya - there’s still so much to see! Hopefully one day we can go back 🥰
Selamat datang di kota kelahiranku Natalie dan carles
Tetep jaga kesehatan ya 👍💪
Thank you ❤️
6:08 And those bars are to prevent motorcyclists using the pedestrian paveway.
IN WEST SURABAYA SAME IN THERE SINGAPURA ICON N SO MANY BIG HOUSE
14:39 Lontong balap. One of the ingredients is the trassie, or fermented shrimp paste, and petis, the fermented fish sauce. Somehow those ingredients may incite an allergic reaction, or in some cases: diarrhoea.
😱 we didn’t know there was anything fermented in it! We both actually really liked it! 😍
Go to Batu and visit *"Museum Angkut"* ..
It sounds really nice! 😍
Amazing video.. Please try spicy little first..you pur chilly little in corner already good step..As Indonesian..i feel surabaya is spicier food.. Enjoy your adventure.. Mantap/very good
Thank you 🥰 it was spicy, but so good! 😍

The meaning of "Kota Tua" is old town. It could be Dutch Town or China Town in Indonesia
Thank you ❤️
