@@nb6175 tbf that rock formation is quite well known, its a popular vacation spot and even without immediately knowing that specific rock its ez to find out where the guy was given the rest of the context

I think the most important takeaway here isn't that Rainbolt knows every place on earth. He had no idea where exactly the scenery outside of the place was. No, the most important thing is that a lot of people most way too much info about themselves online to make this possible. If this was the only image Rainbolt had access to and it wasn't posted on the day of the flight then I don't think he would've found it. But all the context clues about the user that posted it make it possible. If I posted a random image of a street in a town I cycled through to school every day he probably wouldn't be able to find it, but if I then also posted where I live and where I went to school then it's suddenly quite easy.
"If this was the only image Rainbolt had access to and it wasn't posted on the day of the flight then I don't think he would've found it." I think he would have found it, but it is way harder and takes longer.
It would still be extremely easy to find the exact flight with just that image (and the knowledge that it was tweeted live), it's an aerial view spanning miles with multiple defining landmarks which is arguably better info than the streetview in GeoGuessr. It would just take longer since he couldn't immediately confirm it's Mexico at that exact airport, he'd need to manually look over the map where he thinks it is to find it.
It's because the plane is angled up, not down. Which means it's climbing. That only happens if the plane is taking off, or going around after a missed landing. Considering the very clear weather, a go-around is unlikely, and taking a picture after a go-around is also unlikely. So, it's likely landing. It's also turning towards the mountains, which only makes sense if the plane is taking off. There likely aren't any runways in those mountains, so a landing isn't likely. It's more likely to be taking off, pointing towards the mountains.

I’d think that the most likely reason he’d be going somewhere else is a connecting flight. JetBlue mostly flies out of New York and Boston, but they operate quite a few flights out of LAX. So a relatively short hop to LA then a Transcon to JFK.

This is just insane how quick it was...
This is basically a PSA on posting photos when on vacation I guess
Well done
where is mh370?
Rain bolt that winglet is the A320 family sharklet. The color is used by jet blue and delta. All you know from that winglet is that it is either and a319, a320, or a321 on delta or JetBlue
This is the only man on earth who could find out if your dead relatives are in heaven or hell.
Thanks now i have the blueprint for becoming the most evil stalker ever
I feel this is a testament on how humans love to record and log every bit of tiny information, especially on the internet
The reverse for me. The Internet keeps getting stuff deleted
Here's a little flaw in the method.
You're going based off tweeted time.
They might take the picture, do something else, and then post it 10 minutes later.
Seems like that wasn't the case here but you don't know for sure the time between photo and upload.
It’s always “what the sigma” never “where the sigma”. Rainbolt, can you find where the sigma?
in your math book
Would you consider doing more detailed breakdowns of the websites and tools you use to do these sorts of things? It may seem easy to you but for the average person like me, idk how to even start! You have a lot of knowledge on these things!
I just want to see his villain arc
plot twist: his gf cheats and he's out to get the guy she's cheating with💀👌
true villain arc starts then
what tips do you have if i want to start streaming and uploading geoguessr content
"do not post live on vacation" more like do not post live or any photo with context wherever you are 👍👍
Just subbed you deserve it like 10 mins that's all it took for you to find out where he was at and made it looks Soo easy 🙏
Hey there’s a video of a car to have been stolen recently. And the person to have had this car stolen from him said the cops couldn’t do anything about it. And since there’s photos, Instantly thought about you being able to find the “general” location to where the stolen car photo was taken. Not sure if it would make a vid but some general information about its possible current location would be cool. I just feel bad because it’s an expensive car

Definitely agree not to share your flight pics while you're in the air, but so much of the surrounding info could have been obfuscated if the guy wasn't yapping about his whole life on Twitter
