After years of using things, as you do, you come to realize that most things are designed by people who don't actually use the product. Excellent review! o7
As an owner of this bar, I 100% agree with the handle removal system. They should make a knob that can be torqued tight and removed by hand. The current requires the tool, and that means I simply don’t use it nearly as much as I would otherwise. Please REP, release something like this for current open trap bar owners, not simply a 2.0 version. 🙏🙏🙏
For your next Kettlebell video, consider the Apex Adjustable Cast Iron KettleBell, currently sold by Walmart for $55 shipped. It uses 1 inch "standard" plates. It has a 5 pound bottom plate, a male-threaded vertical axle to put plates on, and a 15 pound female-threaded top section. I've used my first one for about 10 years and it's still great. The handle and window are well proportioned, similar to my Vulcan competition Kettlebell. It racks a clean really well and handles bottoms up goblet squats just fine. Load range is listed at 20 to 50 pounds, but I've loaded it up to 53 to ape that 24 kg/52.8 pound bell. It's painted in gray Hammerite. Finish has held up well over 10 years. I've got stuff at all levels of the iceberg, and this bell has gotten more use for less money than almost anything else except for Versa Grips. I now have two, since the first has been so good for so long. Thanks for your suggestions over the years.
The sleeves are are removable... How have they not given the option to have a smaller one already lol. It'd be so easy in their position to create one.
I have the regular handles on mine and I am able to squat with the handles on the bar without removing them. So for me it’s not very annoying. Everyone is shaped differently tho
For a home gym, I don't want a giant rackable trap bar that I can't turn around without hitting everything. I want CAP trap barbell size with REP fitness quality and features. Is it too much to ask for?
yeah, I don't really see that much use for a rackable trap bar. Using a camber bar is relatively niche and if you really want that you could probably get a separate camber bar and a cheaper, non-rackable trap bar for not much more. I do like open bars for loaded carries and stuff like lunges though
Great review, Coop! Fair & balanced. Love the versatility of this bar! I've not felt the bar flex using comp plates at 600+ lbs. I second the motion for a short sleeve option. Hopefully, Rep will offer it as an upgrade, as they've done with the handles, allowing me to use the bar for Farmer Carries in here. I added to my "equipment tool bag" a 10mm Hex Bit for my socket driver, which makes swapping out the handles a little bit easier. This works great for all but the Wide handles which don't provide much clearance to get any tool in there to put on / take off.
I only use it for deadlifts, so the issues with removing the handles don’t matter to me. I agree shorter sleeves would be nice for those of use who will never be deadlifting 600 lbs and it would also make it lighter, which would be nice. Overall, I think it’s a great trap bar for the money and well-built. I do wish it was made in the US.
I agree with pretty much everything you said. I love mine. I bought it as an open trap bar that can be used as a camber squat bar. in reality, I use it as a camber squat bar that can be an open trap bar.
I have been using this bar for a year now and I absolutely love it. You are not going to find a better bar for the money. REP has done this right. The Allen key to change the handles doesn’t bother me one bit. I can make the change in 60 seconds. My Allen key sits right on my window sill for easy access. Thanks so much for the great review Coop.
I love mine. I don’t often switch handles or remove them, but I do have a wrench handy on a shelf with some other tools needed for my equipment. Takes about a minute or two total to swap, which isn’t so bad if I switch mid-workout.
I really want this. But as Coop mentioned I do not have the space for it. I was actually measuring my garage yesterday to see if I can order this bar...before this video even came out. I have the bells of steel trapbar that I tolerate, only because of the size.
😮😮Love this bar. I bought it for all rack work and for headless log press work. I own this and the new kabuki power trap bar hd. If i could only own one for versatility it would be the rep open trap bar. But for only deadlifts then kabuki with balancing kit.
+1 for shorter sleeve length option, for my single car garage. Same for the Camber Swiss bar please. Really liking the reviews of the Rep speciality bars and plan on buying a few. UK based viewer. Another great review from GGR, but would liked to have seen what the balance was like on this bar.
Nice, in-depth review - much appreciated! I agree that they should make the knob on the handles easier to tighten and remove by hand, by they also need to make it so you're not catching your knuckles on it, either. Not sure what could offer enough torque and still be compact enough, but then I'm not a design engineer either. As for the allen key - I'd probably just stick it to my rack with a magnet so it's always in the same place (or hang it from a pegboard). I think that's actually easier than trying to store it in and retrieve it from somewhere inside the bar. And I will probably hold out until they offer the shorter sleeves. A lighter shorter bar makes it more versatile, and, like most people, I'm just never going to need to put that many plates on each side anyway.
I've had mine for 3 months and I use it for everything. Recently I started benching with it and because of the open design I can really focus on a deeper stretch at the bottom. I also purchased the rotating handles so using the thicker handles for farmer walks is great as well. This single bar gave me a lot more training options for my garage gym.
Nice review. I just ordered one ealier today and I'm really looking forward to using it. I've been using an old genuine Gerard Trap Bar that I've had for at least 26 years,
Love this bar. Agree with Coop that the camber function feels great. Like pressing with it, rdls, shrugs, etc. I use it for something almost every workout.
Having different ways to do deadlifts and shrugs is the best way to break through muscular endurance, size, and strength plateaus. Thus, using different trap bars is a good thing. So is doing the same exercises with kettlebells, which is a form of unbalanced weight training, and using regular or other speciality barbells. The biggest mistake you can make if you reach a muscular endurance, size, or strength plateau, which is when you stop progressing or even have performance decreases, is not to change the exercise equipment you use, intensity, strength training method, or even the distance of your hand placement when you grip the exercise equipment.
I am going to order this bar, as Coop mentioned I am thinking of tearing it down and remachining the end shorter, I dont need nor want all that length. But also will re-engineer the screw detach, at least modify it to a single pin radial spanner, or 4 tooth fork spanner.
I don't have experience with other open trap bars. For me, REP's bar being multipurpose is what stands out most. I do like the ability to do certain cambered bar movements. I have wider shoulders. Doing a cambered bar squat is kind of difficult. I have a rackable cambered squat bar for cambered bar squats. I added the rotating handles. Which, I'm glad I did. I love those handles. I definitely like the price. For all it's capabilities that bar is a great value.
Good review. Been thinking about one of those. It really needs a hex head bolt to retain the handles, not a silly knurled screw with an Allen key assist. Everybody should have wrenches to keep their rack bolts snug which could also snug a handle bolt.
I love my rep open trap bar. I never wear gloves and I can say it eats up my hands more than any other bar I have, though... Much more than a Texas deadlift bar. Could be it pivoting in my hands to balance out.
The reason i have NOT ordered the REP Trap bar is because of the sleeves. That thing is enormous. And i likely will only ever use a trap bar for deadlifts. And i dont lift crazy heavy with them. Mostly for endurance and jumps. I have the CAP version i got for $80 and it works great and can store easily in a vertical tree. Unless you really love Trap Bar deadlifts and would like to do camber squats I am not sure if these extra benefits would be used that much. Curious how many people that have it use them for all exercises they say
Shorter sleeves would be nice to make it more compact. If they offered them I’d buy them for sure. I don’t ever remove the handles because it’s a pain, you have to tighten them good or else they move around. So I don’t end up using it except as a trap bar. Otherwise it’s great and I love it.
I wish you could interchange the handles from the rotating handles onto the narrow handles. I love the medium width handles on the rotating but you can’t put them on the narrow ones 😢
It’s definitely a solid option. I was pretty impressed with it when I got to try it at Home Gym Con 2024. It was better than I thought even with the tri handles.
I have this bar. It’s one of those things that’s just a good bar without any problems. I have no complaints, but I have wondered if it would be better if the sleeves rotated. Sometimes I think the handles are narrow, but Rep offers the wide handles, so I can totally go wide if I want.
I hated the Giant. I love my Texas Deadlift bar, but something about the knurl on the Giant was uncomfortably painful. I plan to get a Narrow version of this REP eventually.
Shorter sleeves! I have 2 bars with shorter sleeves and they're my favorites. Easier to maneuver without destroying walls and shattering windows. I can load up to 500 lbs on them with bumpers or even more load with steel plates or calibrated plates. Nobody needs these ridiculously long sleeves that are a pain for moving and storage.
In the pursuit of strength and fitness, the trap bar stands as a symbol of fitness and and strength empowering individuals to lift beyond their limits and reach new heights In the pursuit of strength and fitness because time is significant in its significance.
I have some very aggressive bars and I'm fine with them but I find the trap bar handles pretty painful but specifically because of the centered knurl line. It's too frigging narrow and just makes a channel that my middle finger digs into and just slices my callouses up when I go medium-heavy for reps. Until rewatching this I kinda forgot that the handles were stainless and not coated so maybe I'll try filing down the edges a tiny bit.
I really dislike the placement of those industrial lights. I know someone really had to have them, and they look cool. But having them that close to the wall because they hang too low to put them anywhere else is making my eye twitch every time I see a shot where they're in the background. Let's see if GG Reviews listens to my advice and makes some good changes on version 2.0
For a man that loves magnets I’m surprised he hasn’t put an Allen key and a magnet with the bar, that’s what we do in wood shops so you don’t have to be looking for the right key
High quality COMPACT and OPEN trap bars from the big companies would be awesome, I don’t care for it to be rackable. I think a lot of people don’t realize how ridiculously big these rackable trap bars are. Freaking huge and bout takes up an entire garage wall lol.
hey Coop, just a heads up, your Best Squat Racks link in the description goes to 404: Page Not Found. You can delete this message after reading... or it will self desrtuct in 3...2....1...✌
If removing these handles is an issue to you the hard work of serious lifting will surely be too much for you. So easy to mess with. Such a silly complaint. Nut up.
Rep open trap bar, It works really well for rack pulls with Rep racks with their pin pipe safeties otherwise it does not rack well where the sleeves meet the brackets. Kabuki bar wont rack even with their bs workaround. They need to redesign the bar to be balanced from the get go, rackable and go back to zinc because their black ice is trash my sleeves are rusted up after 2 months. Coop you need to do a new video on their new black ice bars calling them out. Kabuki is making a huge mistake with black ice and not making those changes to the trap bar. I would of went eleiko if they offered other handles
I really enjoy this channel, but I have to say: if there's one video we didn't need it was another REP trap bar video. So much else to review out there, and these points have been featured multiple times now in other videos. Appreciate the work and quality, but give some shelf space to other items!
After years of using things, as you do, you come to realize that most things are designed by people who don't actually use the product. Excellent review! o7
"Dogfooding" is a term sometimes used to describe that - employees using their own products
Yes! SHORTER SLEEVES, Rep! It's a one car garage gym! Make it compact - I will buy one. Been waiting years now...
A metal grinder might be able to help you with that.
As an owner of this bar, I 100% agree with the handle removal system. They should make a knob that can be torqued tight and removed by hand. The current requires the tool, and that means I simply don’t use it nearly as much as I would otherwise.

Same for their Swiss Bar.
@@gregj66 must be trying to get rid of stock before they do anything new ha.
I love how this bar fits perfectly inside my rack. Makes storage easy. The built in "jack" is a game changer for loading and unloading
I have the regular handles on mine and I am able to squat with the handles on the bar without removing them. So for me it’s not very annoying. Everyone is shaped differently tho

I specifically chose the Kabuki trap bar bc it was the smallest open trap bar on the market when I purchased it.
You say when you purchased it, is there another shorter option?
I am going to order this bar, as Coop mentioned I am thinking of tearing it down and remachining the end shorter, I dont need nor want all that length. But also will re-engineer the screw detach, at least modify it to a single pin radial spanner, or 4 tooth fork spanner.

DeWalt is king!! JK lol. Festool is top-shelf.

I love my rep open trap bar. I never wear gloves and I can say it eats up my hands more than any other bar I have, though... Much more than a Texas deadlift bar. Could be it pivoting in my hands to balance out.
I wonder if there's a good option for some kind of aftermarket screw in knob that would fit the current hex key bolt for the handies.

Looking forward to your take on Griffen lever arms. Waiting to jump on theirs or the Halo arms.
Review the Verse Agile Rack!
You should do a review of the Rogue HQ.
It’s my favorite bar for good mornings
REP could always use a screw with a D ring to make the handles truly quick change and tool less. Super easy fix.
I’d gladly give up the rackable feature on mine for either more loadable sleeve length, or shorter overall width (without losing loadable area)
I like my rep open trap bar. it's not the highest quality but it's amazing value and good enough for me.
I have this bar. It’s one of those things that’s just a good bar without any problems. I have no complaints, but I have wondered if it would be better if the sleeves rotated. Sometimes I think the handles are narrow, but Rep offers the wide handles, so I can totally go wide if I want.
Which size handles did you get and how tall are you?
I have the standard/medium handles. I am 6’2”, but I am wide. I am thickly built and the standard handles are a bit narrow for me.
what size is the bolt that holds the handles on? I bet you can find a bolt somewhere with a larger grooved head to make it easier to turn by hand
Nice Trap bar but too large for my small home gym Space 😞
Would love to hear your thoughts on Griffin lever arms. Any plans to review them?
I hated the Giant. I love my Texas Deadlift bar, but something about the knurl on the Giant was uncomfortably painful. I plan to get a Narrow version of this REP eventually.
Coop! We need a mustache maintence routine video.

Should use a short T handle hex key
i love that coop has the most normal body of all time but has the most sophisticated gym.
Coop, you mentioned the flex of the bar. Did this bar flex as much as you flexed when to said that you lift 500lbs?
Also it's a great bar still and I hope they make those improvements.
In the pursuit of strength and fitness, the trap bar stands as a symbol of fitness and and strength empowering individuals to lift beyond their limits and reach new heights In the pursuit of strength and fitness because time is significant in its significance.
Any discount codes for Rep Fitness for the Coop Army?
I’m really interested in the Griffin lever arms you posted a few weeks ago. Do you have a review planned?
Kleva built trap bar in the works. But likely not free shipping even after the likely high price
What's your take on Rogue making stuff for smaller brands?
The knurling on the multi grip I found very aggressive, almost painful.
Don't use a rogue deadlift bar then. It will tear your shins and palms. Feels great!
100% agree. The knurling is way too aggressive for me. Especially when you are lifting heavy.
I have some very aggressive bars and I'm fine with them but I find the trap bar handles pretty painful but specifically because of the centered knurl line. It's too frigging narrow and just makes a channel that my middle finger digs into and just slices my callouses up when I go medium-heavy for reps. Coop - Will we ever see adjustable width handles on a trap bar?
Do you have a review of the Griffin lever arms coming up?
The cheapo Walmart open trapbar is all I need.
Coop the folks at Griffin told me you’re about to do a review on their new jammer arms. Do you know when that’s coming out?
Wish they had more interchangeable handles.

Does this bar work for neutral grip overhead press?
Can you use it for seal rows?
Is the sledtred review coming soon?
When are you going to do a update video on your home gym?
A festool track saw was fast fix,it’s not called fix fast coop
Отлично!
Great video, Coop. I am still hoping and praying each day that I will see my product on your show...
Coop uses Festool?! Let’s see some of your handy work.
Coop review the Axiom Series Leg Curl / Extension from life fitness!
You also have a trap phone?
I still think we need the ultimate trap bar you dreamed up.
If removing these handles is an issue to you the hard work of serious lifting will surely be too much for you. So easy to mess with. Such a silly complaint. Nut up.
Why am I not surprised that a fit-and-finish nerd owns Festool?!?? Lol
Been loooking for this in europe, but its expensive.
Rep open trap bar, It works really well for rack pulls with Rep racks with their pin pipe safeties otherwise it does not rack well where the sleeves meet the brackets. Kabuki bar wont rack even with their bs workaround. My brother in Christ it's pronounced kam·br
Why are you benching, squatting, ohp, squatting with it lol. Rack pull, shrugs.

The truth is, Open Trap Bars are overpriced. Walmart $49 bar does everything needed.
Most this new stuff is overpriced i mean this is a pipe with sleeves and handles on it
That Walmart trap bar is pretty clutch. I use it all the time and I see no reason to ever upgrade it.
Camber is pronounced like camm-ber, not "came-ber".
How do you spell it?
I would like one but no chance in the EU... .@GarageGymReviews can you help?
